Meta stiffened. She actually didn't know a lot about Homeworld's history. At least.... Not about what had come before her. She had been born into and lived in a relatively contained environment up until the time of her defection. There had been little opportunity to explore and learn beyond the bare-bones education that had been provided to her.
"I.... Cannot tell you much about our birth-world's history, Fuscite. I was not afforded an extensive education of its history. I have historical knowledge, yes, but it comes from the fact that I was present for a great deal of Homeworld's history. I have knowledge of what happened during, and to an extent, after my time."
She sighed as he asked about his Gemtype.
"You are... a Fuscite...."
Meta paused a moment, thinking. Sifting through ancient memories.
"Your kind were one among several scouting-units used during my first few millenia of existence. Production of Fuscite Gems was in full swing. I was in charge of a much smaller vessel at the time.... There was a controversy, right around the time I was transferred from an exploration craft to a moderately larger colonization-ship inbound to the world I would defect on..... I remember a couple of Rubies talking about how Fuscite production had been brought almost to a halt, and a lot of the newer batches were being re-assigned and retrofitted for new purposes, while another scouting-type was being completely repurposed...."
Meta shook her head.
"Scouting seemed like sort of a dying category. As Homeworld got its hands on more and more resources, it became possible, and even preferable, to dispatch automated drones, or entire manned vessels, instead of individual scouts. Contact was cut with a lot of the remaining Fuscites..... That's.... Why the Rubies were arguing. One of them.... Thought it was wrong to just... Let you all go like that."
