Somewhere in Greece
"Finally! Haha!"
The temple.
She had spent weeks looking for this place. Months pouring over old books and looking into human history. Finally she found it!
The Temple of Artemis.
Using intel she had gathered from both humans and gems alike she had been able to find out a gem had a artefact in her possession, however... Intel also stated that the same artefact had returned here to this place after many days of being in the gems control. Spider crumbled up the map she carried in one set of hands and almost dropped it on the forest floor but paused...
The 'Goddess' of the Hunt wouldn't appreciate it if she just dropped trash on the floor, now would she? Spider sighed and rolled the trash in between her hands some more. Making the ball nice and small before tucking it into her shirt. Spider knew she had to care about this place, but did it honestly have to be so hard?
She had no idea what... Trials were going to await her here, but she had to try. She wanted to be a Crystal gem. Crystal Gems weren't afraid of a little challenge, were they?
With her head held high, and a thick piece of string ready for the attack she entered the old gem temple.
Granted, this wasn't really a gem temple. This was a temple of human design, made in honor of a gem they believed to be a Goddess and the natural elements had done a toll here anyways. The white marble was cracked, green foliage grew whatever it could. Giant pillars lined the outside and the roof had a mild point to it.
She entered the temple slowly, it was dark at first but the white light that came from her gem made it easier to see. Spider glanced around the rather small temple and was... Unimpressed. Nothing about it even seemed gem like. She had expected something a bit more... Flashier. The decpited some of the story that she already knew about Artemis.
A hunter, could get anything, never showed any favor towards humans much but they still honored her. Believed that she would bring luck to their own hunts.
Some people even believed she ran a tribe of women hunters in the forest that were never aging and strikingly beautiful.
Of course most of this was just... Human bluster, lies, stories. Something they told eachother to make themselves feel better. Make her more... human.
Spider walked around all the corners and edges of the building. Feeling along the walls, looking for a crack... A loose piece of art, a door, anything that would give away to a smaller room that held the artefact she was looking for. Other then some rats, and a very angry looking mole like creature, there was nothing here. The small temple was empty. She huffed and paced in front of one of the walls... There was suppose to be a room of some kind! Some room that held all the gem tech or at least another clue to another temple...
"There is nothing here!" Spider shouted it up at the ceiling and brought her fists to her head. Using all four to squeeze her head softly. Pressure helped her think, whether it was real or fake didn't matter. She needed to feel something other then anger that this entire trip had been for nothing! "Nothing! Nothing Nothing! No-!"
The yelling only stopped when she stepped onto the center of the floor, which was a great craving of a forest, and her gem started glowing. Granted, it was already glowing but now the light was different. She inspected it softly looking at it flashed slow black lights at her. She looked down and saw the corner of her foot was on the carving. She took a step back and the light returned to normal. One pair of eyes narrowed in skepticism, the other in mild shock.
Was this really all she needed? She stepped back onto the carving and the light on her gem continued to flash but nothing else changed. She knelt down on the floor holding her wrist closer to the marble and the light was flashing brighter. Man, this would suck if the gem was on her foot.
Very carefully, she pressed the gem onto the marble. The sounds of stone moving on stone, and gears grinding made the entire building shake and moan. Spider grinned, not caring about her fangs this time around. She was alone after all! The glow and all the sounds shaking suddenly stopped. She could hear the sound of the wilderness outside again...
The smile vanished, "What? Come on... Stupid piece of anci-"
Faster then expected, the carving pulled away from under Spiders feet, breaking in two and revealing a dark tunnel undereath. Right under her feet.
She was falling, free falling in the wind and screaming as the flash backs of falling off a cliff took over her vision. Only this time it was nothing but a dark tunnel and not a cliff with bright foliage underneath. She had no idea what was waiting for her at the end of this tunnel...
