Name:
(informal) Sodalite or Crystal
Appeared Gender:
Female
Appeared Age:
Late 20s
Gemstone:
White gemstone with an elongated hexagonal cut. If you look closely, it looks like there are swirls of blue and orange trapped underneath the gemstone's surface.
Crystal Sodalite's gem was formed from gem dust from the refinery; Crystal Sodalites aren't a natural gem, after all, and Homeworld creates them by using the powder from ground up Sodalites and Crystals. However, a little Creedite dust made it into the gem before being incubated in a Kindergarten, so that explains some of her defects, like her amber eyes and Dreamwalking power.

Gemstone Location: Forehead
Corrupted: no
(If Corrupted)Monster Form: n/a
Appearance: Dark, smoky blue skin that gradually gets lighter from her feet up to her head, aside from spots or slashes of slight discoloration. Long, light blue/white hair, usually tied up in a low ponytail. Amber eyes (a defect, as Crystal Sodalites were designed to have grey eyes). Fairly thin and tall, like a Lapis Lazuli. (see image above)
Personality: Sodalite is, to be put quite plainly, a Homeworld Gem. She believes in everything the Diamonds and the rest of Gem Society has taught her, including the caste system, the inferiority of non-gem species, and the mightiness of the Diamonds. She takes great pride in the fact that she is a gem of White Diamond's court, and doesn't hesitate to let everyone know that she is superior because of the fact.
When alone, Sodalite tones it down a bit. While she likes gloating about her ranking, the one thing that got her to that position in the first place was her love of Architechture. During resting periods, she spends all her time drawing out buildings that, while beautiful, will never have the chance to exist. She loves designing them regardless.
She is also quieter when it comes to her Pearl, who she obtained as a reward shortly before being promoted to White Diamond's court. She simply just doesn't see the use in yelling at her Pearl for mistakes any gem could make, although that doesn't mean she doesn't keep a sharp eye out to see what are mistakes and what are signs of budding insubordination. She is very grateful for her Pearl, and often spills her thoughts to her. She even taught her the basics of Painting, although they keep that information under tight wraps. Sodalite is expected to be the epitome of a perfect Homeworld Gem, after all.
Likes:
Architecture, White Diamond, her Pearl, Singing (listening to it, not doing it)
Dislikes: Yellow Diamond (the one Diamond Sodalite never served under, although she'd never let anyone know that she disliked one of the Diamonds), unnecessary destruction, social "disorder" (aka the rebellion's views on equality and fusion and such), music that is not soft and melodic
Fears:
Being shattered, the buds of non-Homeworld-ness within herself, rogue gems (especially Corals or Pearls), being deep underwater
Weapon: Sodalite cannot summon any weapons yet. However, when she does, it will be a pair of medium-sized gauntlets. They don't have any powers aside from being good at helping her punch people.
Ability 1 (Structure Building): Sodalite can, with a little concentration and effort, construct structures of rock, stone, or sand (whichever, if any, is in the ground around her). It's much like the construction the Desert Glass can do, although Sodalite is much more limited in this ability and can only construct one thing at a time. She can build pillars to raise her into the sky easily or walls of stone, but when it comes to more complex things or things that require structural integrity, such as houses, she can only raise so much at once.
When she stops concentrating or stops being in contact with the ground, the structures collapse if they are too big; too big, unfortunately, means anything bigger than a head, so the only thing that her power is useful for in the long term is architectural models or small stone trinkets.
Ability 2 (Dreamwalking):
Sodalite, unlike most productive gems of Homeworld, used to enjoy sleeping. This is how she discovered her second power, Dreamwalking. Similar to Steven Universe's own Dreamwalking power, Sodalite can enter the psyches of passed out or sleeping beings and see them, communicate with them, and even get trapped in their bodies like in The New Lars. (The last one will be saved for after the redemption arc and only applies to non-gem creatures)
Sodalite has never told anyone of this power and assumes it is a defect, one that might have her shattered. She didn't really like the idea of sleeping after that.
Fusions: None yet, although after her redemption arc, I'm planning for Sodalite and her Pearl to fuse at least once.
History: Sodalite was a Homeworld gem for over 2,000 years. Initially, she served under Blue Diamond as a planner and architect of gem structures. This time was a peaceful one for Sodalite; she knew she was good at her job, and while she was no Sapphire or Lapis Lazuli, she was valuable enough to her superiors to know she wouldn't be shattered anytime soon. She was so good at her job that Blue Diamond herself gave her a Pearl as a reward (and as a parting gift, as she knew Sodalite would be under White Diamond's jurisdiction soon enough).
That's where all the trouble started.
Not a few weeks after she got her Pearl did Sodalite have her first Dreamwalking experience, right into the mind of said gem. She was horrified and threatened to shatter Pearl if she ever told anyone about what had occurred. Of course, not knowing that sleeping triggered the power, Sodalite accidentally Dreamwalked again, into the exhausted mind of an overworked Citrine. The Citrine was shattered not long after for "sprouting lies" about the talented gem architect Sodalite.
Over the next few years, Sodalite stopped sleeping and gradually grew closer to her Pearl after getting over the whole 'I'll shatter you if you tell anyone I'm off' thing. She was promoted into the court of White Diamond, a high honor, although in her quiet moments Sodalite worried about the extra effort she'd have to put in to hide her imperfections from her thus far unblemished reputation. Luckily, with her new promotion, Sodalite was able to travel off-planet to see and assist in her architectural creations, meaning the only ones she had to hide things from were gems of the same or lower rank than her.
While passing the Solar System on the way back from a successful build, their small ship caught odd, gem-like signals coming from Earth. The crew made up of Sodalite, Pearl, two Rubies and a Peridot went to investigate, although in the process one of the Rubies spazzed out and the ship was sent crashing. The Peridot and non-violent Ruby were shattered upon landing, and the odd Ruby went limping off with a cracked gem, form spluttering between humanoid and something entirely else. Sodalite, luckily, only had a slightly chipped gem, and her Pearl had miraculously escaped unscathed.
Character Arcs:
-Redemption Arc (finding the homeworld gems, realizing she doesn't belong, and wandering Earth until running into the rebellion, ultimately joining it)[/span][/div]-How to be a gem (learning to summon a gem weapon for the first time, shape shifting, ect. that she doesn't know how to do)
-How to be a human (Sodalite Dreamwalks accidentally into a human's mind and gets trapped in said human's body for a day or two, learning to recognize the strength in the creatures she had once seen as inferior and dumb. Solidifies her belief that joining the Crystal Gems was right)
-Love like you (Sodalite and her Pearl discuss the strained issue of the caste system back on home world and what they are to each other anymore. Expecting Pearl to want to have nothing to do with her, Sodalite is surprised when Pearl wants to do more than stay by her side; she wants to fuse)
