Name:
formal: Pearl
informal: Penelope or Penny
Appeared Gender:
female
Appeared Age:
19 or 20
Gemstone:
An average sized, round Pearl gemstone.
Gemstone Location: Between her shoulder blades
Corrupted: no
(If Corrupted)Monster Form: n/a
Appearance: Light blue skin, dark blue hair in a pixie cut, grey eyes, average Pearl height (1 inch taller than Sodalite for reference) (may create a reference image later on)
Personality: On homeworld, Penny (then Pearl) didn't have that much freedom to be unique. She knew she liked painting and the quiet nights in which she could look out a window and attempt to stargaze through the polluted Homeworld air, but other than that she was expected to be no more than a quiet servant and trinket.
Now, with the Crystal Gems, Penny has flourished. She is loud, boisterous, and when she is not telling a bad joke, she is telling everyone of the human TV shows or movies she has watched. She is fond of Earth creatures, and has wondered on numerous occasions weather it would be acceptable to keep a human as a pet. She dislikes violence, but will do anything to keep herself, her friends, and the Earth safe from harm. She has a particular fondness for doughnuts, fruit, and Earth drinks, though she avoids eating too much because of the unpleasant process of throwing it back up (she hasn't formed a complete digestive tract)
Likes: human entertainment/media, painting, architecture, Crystal Sodalite, jokes (even the bad ones), Earth creatures, strawberries, doughnuts, smoothies, any type of music, speaking her mind, civil gems that don't try attacking you the second you set foot in a RP
Dislikes: Homeworld's views on practically everything, sleeping (so much to be done!), stone or gem jewelry/furniture/devices (it's just wrong!), flying (she already crashed once and doesn't want to do it again), eating
Fears:
being forced back into servitude, being unable to protect something/someone, running out of smoothies, tall places, corrupted or Homeworld gems
Weapon: A teardrop-shaped shield made of light. It is not as strong as a Rose Quartz shield and cannot get as large (only 1.5x her height), but it can block just about any melee attack (aside from those of gem destabilizes). Large laser blasts like those of a gem ship would rip the shield to shreds. Since it is made of light, Penny can make it brighter or dimmer, although if it gets too bright or dim, it takes more energy to maintain, usually meaning that the shield isn't as strong when blocking things.
Ability 1 (Hologram Projection):
Like most Pearls, Penny can project holograms of either normal light or hardened-light. This is useful for illustrating points or, when in combat, having Holo-Pearls to fight by her side. If she projects one Pearl it is roughly the same strength as her minus a strategic or creative processing, but if she projects her maximum amount (6), they are very weak and can be dissipated by simply punching one hard enough (gem strength punch, not human strength).
Ability 2 (Protective Bubble):
Penny can form a transparent bubble around herself or others to protect from incoming attacks. Of course, she cannot attack while in the bubble, and although sharp objects cannot reach her, she is likely to be thrown around if someone hits the bubble hard enough. While it is not the same strength as her shield, it can take quite a few hard-hitting melee attacks before popping.
Fusions: None yet, though the plan is for Penny to fuse with Crystal Sodalite at some point.
History:Penny, then known as Crystal Sodalite's Pearl or Crystal Pearl, was a servant on Homeworld for a little under 1,000 years. She was created for the sole purpose of serving Crystal Sodalite. Luckily, Sodalite wasn't cruel like many gems are when it comes to Pearls, so she was able to survive, while not happy, free of the terror most Pearls confront on a daily basis. She kept herself busy serving, and when she couldn't do that, painting or stargazing.
While on the way back from one of Crystal Sodalite's many architectural projects, their small ship picked up a gem-like signal from Earth. Curious (and also needing repairs on the ship), the crew headed over. Once in the atmosphere, one of the Rubies on board spazzed out and sent the entire ship crashing. Penny and Sodalite escaped mostly unharmed, but the rest of the small crew was shattered, aside from the corrupted Ruby, who limped off with a spluttering form.
On Earth, the first group Penny and Sodalite encountered was the Homeworld gems. They were, at first, relieved to have found them and not the rebels they warned them about, but after the Homeworld gems displayed alarming amounts of hostility to Penny (due to her Pearl status) and Sodalite (due to her defects), the two struck it out on their own, intent on finding and joining the Earth rebels without being shattered in the process. While on their journey, Penny learned to summon her shield and bubble, due to the worrying amount of corrupted gems trying to attack them.
Character Arcs:
-Finding the Crystal Gems: Meeting the rebels and managing to not die in the process of joining their side
-Nerd Friends: Penny manages to find and convince at least one gem to watch her favorite human TV shows with her
-Love like You: Penny confronts Sodalite about their life on Homeworld and how their relationship has changed due to a shift in power dynamics. Penny wants to try to experience fusion with her
-Not just a Pearl: Penny, in some shape or form, tries to prove to some skeptical gem(s) that she is more than what she was created for. Ends up with her making stupid decisions and realizing she only needs to prove to herself that she can be strong, not to other gems.
