Sugar took a moment to analyze the primitive instruments she had found. It appeared to be similar to their writing tools, but in a physical system instead of summonable hardlight. Peculiar, yes, but given the nature of this planet, less technologically developed means of communication were to be expected. The largest item of the set was a moderately thick stack of parchment in between surprisingly durable boards of what appeared to be cloth. Engraved on one side was human writing. J-O-U-R-N-A-L. Whatever those incomprehensible Earth symbols were supposed to say, anyway.
Nevertheless, Sugar picked up the second instrument, a black plastic tube that opened up on one side and left markings when it's tip was pressed to the parchment. Or cloth. Or anything really. After a moment of experimenting with her findings, an idea struck her as she lie on the hood of the '72 Runner. She could use this... Thing to record her time on Earth. Like a captain's log or journal. Turning over to set the now opened journal on a flat part of the car's hood, the gem eagerly began to write.

Earth is a peculiar planet. The inhabitants seem to follow no directive, rather doing things for the sake of themselves as opposed to a higher power. In all honesty, it must be liberating. Yellow Diamond sent me here about... Three earth months ago. And while I have had encounters with the insurrectionist group calling themselves the "Crystal Gems", my crew and I have made no progress in eradicating the group. It doesn't help that Emerald and Topaz are still Missing in Action... I miss them. They were companions worthy of entire fleets themselves.
In addition, I have been tasked with retrieving select gems and bringing them to the scientist Obsidan for her research. While it is disturbing, I can always use something to do to get my mind off of my repeated failures. First Centauri, then losing my squad, and more recently, allowing that snake Carbide to damage the Seismic Destabilizer before I could give it to the scientist. Yellow Diamond's unwillingness to discuss the status of my crew, let alone supplies I need in order to continue my crusade.
I'm starting to think she just wanted to get rid of me.
