Last Major Edit: 4/19/17
Name: Padparadscha (Para, pronounced pare-uh, for short.)
Appeared Gender:
Female
Appeared:
~20
Gemstone: Padparadscha -
Gemstone Location: Palm of both hands.
Corrupted: Yes, very early stages.
(If Corrupted)Monster Form: None currently (early stage corruption)
Appearance: Note - Despite technically being a type of sapphire, Para is a rare form of padparascha designed for artistic work. As such she is made to be much taller than the typical short sapphire. For reference she is just slightly taller than Pearl from the show.
Personality: Padparadscha is your stereotypical Homeworld high-class gem on the surface, very prim and proper in all situations. Because of her strict teachings Para lives her life like her work, strict and calculated with very little room for emotion. Being of a higher class of gem, Para is rather prideful of her work and takes any insult to it as a direct insult to herself. Similarly, anything she creates that fails is a failure of her own design. However, this also means any success (whether it being from another gem or influence) that involves her creations is taken as a personal victory as well. To a sometimes annoying degree.
While Para is technically a Crystal Gem, her personal beliefs often clash with their usual ideology. Her critical mind causes her to search for direct and final solutions, subtlety is often lost on her. Above all else she loves the action of creation and the simple truth of existence. As such she appreciates the Crystal Gems trying to keep Earth as is, with the diverse life forms, and their open ideas towards what could be created with her abilities.
However, because of her distant business-like nature, Para has never been close to another gem. She has never had the chance or skills to make a true friend, often inadvertently giving others the 'cold shoulder'. Para has no clue on how to work with others, or to empathize with others, so her connections to others have always been only over her work. Despite all that, Para deeply wants to make a serious connection with someone else, but few are willing or able to work past her initial cold personality. She does make an effort though, and those who do get past her initial formal attitude find she is rather kind hearted.
Likes: Creation, Existence (literally just the simple fact of unique things existing), Control (Over events and ability to create.), Companionship.
Dislikes: Poor designs and failed creations, Death of destruction of any kind (Destroying something is to destroy a unique aspect of existence.), Refusal to use her creations.
Fears: Failing/Alienating others, Becoming obsolete, Being unoriginal
Weapon: Padparadscha, by design, is unable to summon a weapon. She was never built for combat, and must instead rely on creating weapons with her abilities to fight. Alternatively she is able to use unarmed martial arts to a certain degree. Despite that, she is essentially a non-combatant and must supplement her fragility with weapons and gadgets she makes out of combat. Often she carries a small number of defensive tools, but they take time and resources to create and can only be carried in small amounts or risk being obvious.
Ability 1: Hardlight Construction: Padparadscha's main ability is what gets her by in most situations, the ability to use her gem to project more than just her form. Similar in how a gem core creates a form from hardlight, Padparadscha can turn energy into a physical form separate of her body (think similar to Symmetra from Overwatch.) This can take the form of almost anything, from spikes to swords to shields. Of course there are limitations to this ability, namely that it takes considerably time (in a fight about 1 post to create a standard weapon) to create anything. As well it does take energy, and as such she can only make so much within a certain amount of time. So the larger the item, the longer it takes and the more energy it takes from her.
Ability 2:
"Everything by Design": Padparadscha is gifted with a very analytical mind (something of a burden when it comes to social interaction) which allows her to study and memorize mechanisms and objects she sees. Given enough time Padparadscha can memorize something and then be able to create it from memory if it is within her capabilities. While this is the actual functionality of the power, it does translate to her actual personality and skills.
Fusions: N/A
History: Similar in the need for workers to create structures and weapons, there was a need (more of a want really) for the creation of items for the higher class gems of Homeworld society.
And so a certain sect of gems were made, Padparadscha being one of them. Her job was to create artful pieces and designs for others to enjoy. All ranging from engravings, tapestry, jewelry, etc. She always loved her job, as she was made to do so, and took great pride in her work.
When Pink Diamond called for a gem of her type, Para happened to be the lucky one to be picked from the relatively small number of her cut. Earth was an interesting place from what she heard, so the prospect of not only experiencing the new planet while also serving the diamonds was more than appealing. She was escorted to the Moon Base above Earth and tasked with assisting in the reconstruction efforts, serving as a source of spare parts.
Initially Padparadscha despised the rebels as she was taught, but over time she began to hear rumors about them and began piecing together some of their true nature. As well, during this time she began to grow bored of her task. Sure she was helping the war effort, and doing as her diamonds asked, but the mundane routine began to weigh on her. She began going off on her own to explore, doing as she wished when not on duty. It was during one of these jobs that she discovered an old computer in the primary Kindergarden. There she learned of an ancient structure, one that would change her life.
In the following weeks Para pieced together a transport and rode off to find the unused structure hinted at in the old documents. It took quite some time, but eventually she found the volcano that housed the fabled forge. After a short conflict with a corrupt bismuth, the forge was empty and ready for use. It was there that she made the decision to do as she wanted, to create what she wished to create. But of course the resources were limited, and she couldn't gather them all herself. So she allied herself with the Crystal Gems, something she never would have thought she would do. It became a mutual arrangement, they bring her what materials she needed (metals and what not that she couldn't form herself) and in return she made weapons, gadgets, and modifications for their forces.
Character Arcs: Initially Padparadscha will begin distant to others, but trying to make connections where she can. She'll begin to open up to other gems and hopefully find herself a companion like she never had. Afterwards Padparadscha will likely grow out of her strict mind set and accept that not everything has to has a function or a purpose, accepting thing can exist purely for enjoyment.
