In one of her stays in Beach City, Chrysocolla had ended up wandering around and got at the docks. This was one of the few places she had yet to truly visit, and the sight interested her. The various boats tied up, humans going about their day, it admittedly was slightly calm to some degree. "Fascinating..I suppose it wouldn't hurt to stay here for a little bit." Melody looked around, trying to find a place where she could work with her guitar. It was hard to tell what, but something about this place just gave her a bit of a musical itch. This had a tendency to happen whenever Melody landed in some place that was just amazing to her, like how an artist with paint decided to paint their latest work. She soon sat down on an empty portion of one of the docks and pulled her guitar out, beginning to play whatever came to her head
Overhead in the bright day-lit sky was a small pale-orange being flitting about, her Thaos Swallowtail butterfly wings seeming to shimmer with radiance as they beat the air softly. She flew over and under clouds, avoiding going through them as to not get her wings wet, and occasionally did a little loop-de-loop or twirl. The small Amber hardly flew for the simple joy of it, but it seemed she had more time to do whatever she desired now that she chose to slack on her responsibility. Everyone needed a break every once in awhile.
When Amber flew below the clouds she found herself near the docs of Beach City. Of all the places on Earth, Beach City was actually a destination she had never been to before. She's been to mountains, jungles, deserts, and of course the luxuriously grand Empire City, but seeing the humble little seaside town was a first today. It seemed too quiet of a town to hold very many corrupted Gems, so if it hadn't been for the music playing, Amber wouldn't have stopped in.
But indeed there was music, a beautiful melody strummed on... what instrument was that now? Hmm.... oh, yes! It was a guitar. Amber can see it now in her head as past human memories fluttered by. The instrument had such an odd shape, but its sound range was beautiful and Amber admired the skillful hands that played them. She brought herself nearer to the dock's surface, fluttering around boats and squawky seagulls. She landed on one of the docks a ways behind the Chyrsocalla. It was a beautiful guitar piece, and Amber felt very content in just standing there and letting her ears get drunk off the sound.
Melody kept playing, but couldn't help but sense that someone else was there. As she sat there on the dock, feet leaning off of it, the options tried to go through her head. It was either a Crystal Gem, a Homeworld gem, or for some reason it would be a corrupted gem which..that option just didn't make much sense.
As she wrapped up her performance, she stood up, holding her guitar-axe in her right hand. She was still smiling but prepared to do whatever was necessary
"You know, I could do an encore performance if you wanted.. what did you think of the first one anyway?"
The Chrysocolla smiled softly as she turned around to whoever her guest was

Amber had closed her eyes before Melody at finished, letting the sound of her music fill her ears and take her away like an ocean would a small shell. It was beautiful, to say least, and filled Amber with some nostalgia for Homeworld as she remembered the rhythms that similar Chyrsocollas played there. When the Gem finished her song and turned to address Amber, the small healing Gem opened her eyes and smiled. "Wonderful! You're very skillful. I wouldn't mind an encore, if only it wouldn't trouble you. Honestly you have very wonderful musical ability. Has time here on Earth helped you expand your skill?"
That question was pure curiosity with multiple meanings. Amber was indeed curious if the planet had helped Melody at all, but she was also curious about the other Gem's stand point in this war. How did she feel about Earth? What side was she on? How did she seem not bothered to the point where she could sit there perfectly and just strum away on her guitar? Amber couldn't help but feel respect for this Gem.
Melody smiled a little as she walked up to Amber, guitar resting against her shoulder as she held it up
"I suppose it has. Although to be fair, Homeworld already programmed me like this to some degree. I can do an encore performance um..any particular preferences?'
The Chrysocolla sat down on one of the wooden posts that the dock contained. She seemed to give off an aura of calmness but at the same time she looked like one of those gems that you probably shouldn't make angry
"See the thing is, with the time I've spent on Earth, it's surprising the music styles that they have. It's allowed me to...expand my craft, I guess you could say. Adds to my abilities and all, that sort of thing"

Amber nodded, "Haha! They really can." Her thoughts drifted to how her skills expanded since being on Earth. She wasn't just a healer now, but a researcher and a hunter. Things she never thought she could ever be, due to her dysfunctional programming.
"You can play anything that comes to your mind. I like to think of music like an expressive tool, no matter your programming. We all have personalities, right? Your play style and the type of music you like can tell a lot about yourself," Amber smiled, her thoughts shifting to an analytical healthcare approach to the topic. After a moment she cleared her throat timidly, "I-I mean, if you really want to play again I would love to hear it!"
She smiled and hugged her own arm, "What genre is your favorite?"
"Well I can..never really turn down an adoring fan. I suppose I'll do one or two more songs for you"
Chrysocolla smirked and thought for a second, trying to think of the best response to Amber's question
"Erm...I guess if I had to pick...probably the various types of rock music as the humans call it. For some reason it feels the easiest to play and the energy work with my powers the most."
She looked up at Amber, getting the sense that the gem didn't mean any harm, which was always good to deal with initially.
"As for your views on music, the way I see it, it's something that can be used to prove a point. It's true that it can express things but it also has power behind it. A proper song can easily sway people to either listen to you, or..well, possibly hate and/or fear depending on the circumstance. People are finicky"

Amber chuckled, "Yeah, they are. But we can't always help what we see in things, I guess; or, more accurately, what we hear." She sat down on her legs, crossing one arm against her abdomen so that the elbow of the other arm rested in the palm. The palm belonging to the supported elbow rested on Amber's chin. She smiled at Melody, seeming comfortable for once. "What do you create music for? I mean, sure, it's what you were made to do, but you're on Earth now, away from Homeworld. What does it mean to you?"
Maybe it had been the music that made Amber in such a casual yet curious mood. A lot of Gems spend their time doing the most human of things. Going to the movies, eating, partying, drinking, trying to become the closest thing to human that their race could become. Yet she hadn't personally met a Chrysocolla before, or any other Gem on Earth who devoted their time to music. Dancing, yes, but not music. That was a separate art.
Melody thought for a second, trying to figure out how to properly answer Amber's question
"Well...it varies. Music still means the same to me as it did in my programming but..at the same time it's something I like experimenting with. My powers are based off of the different song types I play so...I guess really I play music to see how strong I can get?"
She shrugged, not sure how to say it to Amber
"I've been trying to stick to Homeworld, I'll admit. But this whole experience has been...difficult. Not many gems to be able to follow around..that's what I was built for, technically. I was a protector at the Lunar Sea Spire and just...waited there...a long time..."

Amber nodded, "Yeah, I get ya." She frowned a bit, "I was made to kinda follow others around too. Health care companions, nurses, etc., that's what ambers are for." She shrugged and looked back up at Melody, "But that's the thing about Earth: anyone who lands here seem to stray, in some way, from their purpose. What else are we supposed to do between the fighting and the waiting? Some day we'll be able to go back to Homeworld," she sounded hopeful in that last statement. "And all of this will be over. But for now we're just going what we can to survive. For me, that's trying to heal what can't be healed. For you, that's music."
She smiled again, "I'm glad I got to hear your playing though. Brings back bitter yet nostalgic memories.
"But protector of the Lunar Sea Spire, you say?" The small Gem tilted her head. "What happened?"
Melody set her guitar down for a moment and sighed, looking down at the water
"Well..to be honest, not a whole lot. It's just what it sounds like, I was one of the gems that was assigned to the Lunar Sea Spire. I was supposed to...well, protect and provide entertainment for any gems that dropped by."
She looked over at Amber with a slightly somber look on her face
"The thing is that..I was there for so long, nothing happened. Nothing...productive, nothing really exciting, I was just stuck on guard duty over and over and over. I'm still loyal to Homeworld and all but..it just gets to a gem after awhile, even the most loyal people can't handle being alone for that long, y'know?"

Amber frowned and nodded. She knew how that felt perfectly -in fact, it's what she's been feeling for quite a while at her own station. It sounded like how events had developed after a little over a human year at the Glass City; her own domain, where she held Corrupted Gems and researched them in order to heal them. No results yielded positive news, and everything was the same day after day. Failures, tests, failures, and tests. She seldom had other Gems come and go, and word from M-Tower was scarce. A sole defective amber set to work on something so much more bigger than herself.
"I'm sorry to hear," she said, her voice gone soft as she found herself relating to this musician. She then looked at her fully and tilted her head, "What are you doing here, though, if that is your duty?"
Melody sighed and looked over at Amber, smiling softly
"Taking some time off. Or...at least that's what I heard the humans say. I've been trying to renovate the Spire in all honesty. Don't know if you've seen it but it's..well, not in the best shape."
She looked a bit nervous as the Chrysocolla stared into the water, color almost matching it
"The thing is that I don't know what to do. All the other gems at the spire have just wandered off, been shattered or..well I don't know. I've been trying to keep in contact with my Diamond but I don't have someone to follow. I'm not a leader, I'm just a combat bard that gems use when they need assistance or they need some tunes when bored."
Chrysocolla clenched her fist before looking over at Amber again

Amber nodded, understanding perfectly, then offered Melody a soft smile, "Well, I wouldn't mind being that company, if you'd like. I'm sure I can brush off a day or two." A day or two? The whole reason why she was out here to begin with was to procrastinate on thinking over her failures and witnessing them again and again at her own post. She could relate to this Chrysocolla way too well. "Do you often leave the Spire for the purpose of seeking company? Or is this the first? Or among the first?" She tilted her head, though with still that soft smile. "I'm sorry if this seems personal. I've never been to the Spire, I wouldn't know how to works."
Melody leaned back on the dock, staring up at the sky before looking over at Amber
"It depends on my mood. I don't stay at the Spire as much as I'm supposed to be. I've actually been working on trying to renovate it, get it back to its proper shape. Then maybe I could get a nice spot on Homeworld if my Diamond noticed my work..."
She sighed happily, thinking about the praise she could get if she was able to repair the Spire..MOSTLY single-handedly at least. The Chrysocolla had some help off and on but she still did the majority of the work done
"Don't worry, it's not too personal. I'm alright talking about anything in all honesty. Anything else you might want to know?"

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
