Em could tell this gem was trying to be friendly . She admired he was able to answer so kindly after she plainly stated she wouldn't trust him. She began to question her previous thought about him trying to intimidate her, but then reminded herself even the friendliest seeming of people could really be manipulative rebels. She made sure not to let her guard down in case he was really tricking her.
Once again she couldn't help be distracted by all his twirling about in mid air. "Are you not using up all your energy just so you can float about in the air?" She did think his actions were quite amusing, but if something like the holopearls showed up again she doubted if he would have enough energy to fight. She then remembered about a warning she had received about earth. Right before she left she was instructed corrupted gems were abundant on earth, and to watch out for them. She had seen a few before, but only one or two. She had never imagined there was a planet were they were abundant. Though it wasn't her mission she now became curious about this. "Are corrupted gems really abundant-" The orb excitedly reappeared right in front of Em. "Did you find a cave?" The orb buzzed around excitedly. "It's obviously found a cave. By it's timing the cave must be relatively close. It can show us the way whenever we're ready to leave the fountain." Once she had finished talking the orb started mimicking Sulfur as he flipped, and twisted in the air. It seemed to be having fun.
Sulfur continued to do a set of five loops in the air before noticing her question. He stopped, again, precisely six inches in front of her face. He showed no emotion on his face, except for a hint of a frown. He then landed on his feet, as tall as he was he decided to kneel down a bit. His expression became a mixture of pride and serenity. He seemed glad to talk about himself, yet there was nothing arrogant about it. It was as if he was a display at a museum and was presenting himself.
"Well, it doesn't take up much energy to do. It's like walking, I can do it easily, and the more I do it, the better I get at it. Since this is my most helpful ability in combat I use it frequently, therefore, it's actually easier to levitate than walk. I might be abusing my legs a bit..." He said. The skepticism he had seen on her face was almost gone. If this was the gem he would be socializing with for some time it was good to know that she trusted, if not liked him in the least. it was always easier that way.
"Good then! Unless you have unfinished business, we can head off-" Sulfur turned to the light buddy. He seemed immensely disturbed and irritated by it. He then decided to continue where he left off, slowly turning back to Em, keeping an eye on the light buddy, as if holding a grudge. "Yes..I am ready when you are."
Em felt the need to laugh when he stood up without floating. He seemed almost as if he was unfamiliar to walking as he legs bended a bit once he stood still. She then took into consideration she was much shorter than him, and he might be bending down to be a the same height as her. This thought did irritate her quite a bit, but she decided to push it aside. If she had to work with the gem there was no point in getting annoyed by him at right now. She noticed he seemed slightly irritated by the orb, and thought it was understandable. The thing did seem to be quiet annoying at times.
The orb stopped mimicking him once he had stood up. It seemed almost sad at the fact he had stopped twirling around. It quickly regained it's joy though as it heard him say he was ready to leave. It immediately started heading off in front of them. It started off slow, but gradually gained speed until it was racing out of sight. It didn't seem to think about how they'd have to be sprinting to catch up. "I swear the thing gets more clueless every time I summon it." She sighed looking off in the direction it had zoomed off towards puzzled. "You're going to fast. You need to come back, and this time go slower." She yelled off calmly in it's direction as if things like this happened often.
Sulfur sternly watched the light buddy zoom off. He had an oddly dutiful look about him, as if the situation was much more dark. He turned to Em, his face suddenly darkened, it was almost a scary look.
"If we are going to catch up...you must hop on my back so that we can fly there." He sighed dramatically. "It is the only way." He said, before hopping into the air and levitating, He put his arms down as if to give Em a piggyback ride. After a long pause he realized how silly he must have looked. "Oh come now, it is the only way... I know that you don't trust me, but this would be a great opportunity for me to prove myself! Just...hop on!" He said, his voice returning to it's normal cheer.
Em looked at him with wide eyes. She was completely shocked by his offer. Out of all things she really would have never guessed her would offer her a piggy back ride. She paused for a moment not at all sure what to do. ~What is happening with my life? Why does that stupid light orb hate me. I think it does these things on purpose.~ Many comments among these lines raced through her head as she stood there most likely looking like an idiot. "Uh, Okay?" She seemed surprised by her own answer, and stood there for a minute more before climbing on his back.
At this point Em was thinking about using her ability to fake poof so she could just disappear, and get out of this situation. ~This is degrading.~ She thought to herself, and questioned all her life decisions that had led up to this point. As she thought she forced her face to be expressionless. ~If you don't make this embarrassing it won't be embarrassing. So just stop, and calm down.~ She thought to herself trying to keep the moment from being to awkward.
He took of, floating gracefully over the forest. Although seven feet was the maximum height he could hover at, it felt much higher. At the speed they were going Em would be struggling to hold on, but for some reason the ride was smooth enough that she could simply sit still and not be shaken by the movement. Sulfur turned his head to look at her.
"That's a cool breeze, things like that are hard to appreciate when you aren't moving fast enough" Sulfur said as if it were some extremely interesting fact. "What do you think of the view Em, it's good right? I thought you would be worried that I would throw you off of my back, but you trusted me. That is good." A faint smile was on his lips. While he was turned toward Em a tall tree came up, it looked as if they were about to collide with it but Sulfur swerved around it without looking. His expression didn't change, but he did turn back to focus on the problem at hand.
Em looked about while they flew. It was an extremely different sight than she was used to. They weren't close to the ground, but at the same time they weren't far from it either. She wondered if this is what little buddy saw every time it was in orb form, if that was the case she almost understood why it was always so excited. After all this was a rather pretty sight. As he mention she also enjoyed the breeze which was blowing on her face gently. "Yes the sight is rather unique." She listened to his wording of his next comments, and eyed him suspiciously. "Should I be worried you're going to throw me off your back?" She covered her face in defense as the tree came up. At this point she was a tiny bit worried he was trying to be malicious. "That wasn't on purpose was it?" She as she spoke it was slightly jokingly.
While they zoomed through the air Em caught sight of something shiny right in front of them. "Hey I think that's it!" She said pointing out the obvious as it came into full view. It started slowing down. Em could only assume this must mean they were close to the cave already.
Sulfur seemed somewhat distracted by the view, sometimes gasping while noticing a feature. He occasionally muttered "no! it wasn't like that last time..." under his breath. When she spoke up he suddenly brought his attention back to her. "Yeah...I doubt you have many chances like this... savor it." He said quietly, doing so. He then looked confused at her next question. "If I wanted to throw you off my back I would have done it back there where there were more rocks...here the amount of trees and bushes would most likely allow you to survive, while cracked, it would be unlikely a fatal fall. In other words, no!" He said smiling. "What wasn't on purpose?" he looked confused. "I don't understand..." Sulfur started floating toward the shiny object. As the wind blew through his face he started to be very careful about his surroundings, as if he had been there before.
Em continued to take in the view. At this point the orb was going about the same pace as a jog. She noticed as Sulfur also slowed to match the orbs pace. The surrounding at this point weren't blurring from the speed like before. Since they had slowed she could now see the individual tree's, and bushes. When he talked about what he would've done if he wanted to be rid of Em, she felt slightly uncomfortable. ~Well it's nice to know if he's going to crack me at least he can finish the job, and not do it half way.~ She though saracastically. He began to sound confused when she talked of the tree, so Em ended that part of the conversation with "Never mind."
"Alright then Em." Sulfur said giving a confused look. "I only assumed that you thought I wanted to throw you off of my back because of the expression on your face when I suggested it. I've seen that look before...a flustered look people make when they are about to die... but as you can see, you are safe and sound!" He suddenly sped up and moved swiftly, headed to the cave. he did a little loop in the air as he approached the cave, holding on to Em tightly, to not drop her. Once he was close to the ground he slowed and stopped, levitating in the air with one foot lower than the other. Then, he ever so gracefully landed, which was beginning to very much contrast his character. He was grinning for some reason. He turned to face Em with a wide smile. "I'm sorry if that scared you! I just had to try that stunt, it's been two thousand years since I've flied with a co pilot!" he chuckled at his own joke. He let her off of his back, onto the cave floor. "I have never 'camped-out' before...I just deducted that it would be a good idea... what should we do now Emerald- excuse me... Em"
This gem was starting to creep Em out a bit with all his off handed comments. Most of the time she would've taken his comments as jokes, but he had been acting oddly to say the least the entire time. Something about him was definitely unsettling. His tone was as if he was joking, but not at the same time. At the thought he might actually be dangerous Em dismissed little light buddy as soon as the cave came into view in order to preserve power.
As they flew she didn't enjoy the part where he did a flip without warning. She felt slightly better since he did hold on to her meaning he didn't want to harm her. She started to think maybe he just was a bit awkward, and not good at making jokes. Once he landed she stumbled as she got back on the ground in a rather ungraceful display. She didn't trip, but she was just about to before regaining her balance. She then ignored it as if it never happened trying not to make a scene. Em had 'camped out' as he was calling it on many occasions. Many of her missions were over night meaning she'd have to find shelter, and set up a camp sometimes with groups sometimes by herself. "Well whenever I've made camp normally it's best to start with a fire for a source of light that doesn't wear away our power. After that we normally just sit around, and wait for dawn." While speaking Em quickly left the cave, and started finding twigs along the ground. After finding a few she started breaking thick stubby limbs off of trees. It only took a few minutes before she had enough to make a small fire.
If he noticed that she was uncomfortable, he surely didn't react to it. It was difficult to tell if his reasoning was to not make a scene or something more sinister. I could use my gem to light up the cave, but since she would probably ask more about why I wouldn't care about conserving energy, that would be annoying. It would also make her more uncomfortable, it's only natural to be afraid of things you aren't used to... Sulfur thought. I might as well make the fire...
Alright...I need flint and steel...If I want to make a fire I need those two things... Scanning the floor he picked up a rock. He grinned happily. Heh, Flint! I'd recognize you anywhere... well you always were a klutz, maybe that's why they got you first... He squeezed the rock a bit. He then continued searching. Bloody hell! I can't find any steel... Dark places are very dangerous! She's going to be too suspicious...then she won't trust me enough! Then...she won't be of full potential... Crud! I've been trying so hard! His only option was to be honest. "Em, I can't find any steel..."
Em bundled the stick with a long vine she had found winded around a tree. After having them bundled she had no difficulties in brining them back to the cave. Once she had laid them onto the ground she looked around for a minute before replying to Sulfur. "I don't see any either. This is a burden to ask, but could you light up your gem to look for some steel? I can send out Little Buddy again if it turns out there is none." She felt slightly bad for asking him to use up energy, but she only had about half her energy after using Little Buddy so much today. The real reason she wanted the fire was to regain energy faster. If she brought out Little Buddy while the fire was bright Little Buddy could use it, and transfer extra energy to her. She didn't really care for the light, though it was a bonus. She didn't think he would turn out to be aggressive at this point, but he had been acting strange the entire time. So if worst came to worse she wanted to have enough power to fight.
"Do you need light so badly?" Sulfur asked, raising an eyebrow. "I didn't want to look for anything in the first place, but after I noticed the effort you expended gathering those strips of wood I decided to keep it to myself. If you do not know, Steel is not a naturally occurring material, it is a manmade metal created by mixing alloys. This is a practice performed by humans to produce useful steel objects, such as weapons. Our odds of finding Steel would be slim at best." Sulfur tapped the gem on his shoulder a bit. "I could produce my own light, of course that would drain energy, but I don't use much anyway..." He mumbled. "If you would be okay without light then that would be fine for me aswell." Oh this isn't good... now I look suspicious again...she`ll be afraid to stay here in the dark...what to do...oh...of course! "Would you prefer I stay outside? We don't fully trust one another yet, if it would make you more comfortable then it will be done."
Em sighed. She started to feel a bit like an idiot at this point. ~I probably look like some coward who's afraid of the dark right now. I shouldn't have asked any thing from him, and just sent out little buddy to steal some from a human if they're the ones that make it.~ Listening while he mumbled she didn't understand why he didn't care about using power, did he really not intend to attack her after all? She still wasn't completely sold on the idea he had no intention to fight, but she trusted him a bit more.
Though she did like the idea of one of them sleeping outside the cave, she preferred it to be herself. That way in case something happened she couldn't be cornered. "I agree with that idea, but I would rather be outside if it doesn't bother you at all." She spoke trying to make it seem as she wanted him to have the more comfortable area. She wasn't entirely sure if it sounded that way, but she tried.
