The Earth had a way of changing people. That was something Sugar had come to learn through her time on the massively diverse planet. The gems here deviated from their primary directives, frequently abandoned protocol, and seemingly didn't follow the way of the diamonds... and seemed far happier for it. The rule of the Diamond Council was meant to give them all direction and meaning, to make the gems essential in a cause for a greater good... But there have been so many missteps.
The rising insurrections across multiple systems, the necessity to conserve resources and the introduction of Phase 2 gems... the Council was getting sloppy. Pink's insistence that the forces on earth focus on evacuation of Homeworld gems instead of mobilization to quash this rebellion was furthermore vexing. It had taken far too many favors for Obsidian to allow Sugar use of her Diamond Line, and she had to be transferred from her Diamond, the mighty Yellow, to Pink. Had that not caused enough frustration, her request for a Galaxy Class cruiser with an escort of Headhunter frigates had been sternly denied.
It was furthermore perplexing when Sugar began to doubt the Diamond in control of the planet. What did Pink think she was doing? The Crystal Gems were only getting stronger, and there she was, not dealing with the problem. The Diamonds, with all their infinite wisdom and unlimited power, were wrong.
The mere thought of it was treason.
But she was right.
She had changed, and more than just her form. If the Diamonds were mishandling the situation, and the Crystal Gems were still a threat, someone would have to mobilize forces to stop them. Sugar didn't care whether or not the Diamonds wanted the insurrectionists on Earth wiped out at this point in time. Their goals seemed to have shifted, where her mission had not. Of course, these rebels had made her crusade personal with the deaths of Emerald and Topaz. They were missed, greatly, in fact. Sugar D1332 was the last remaining soldier of Unit 1 Squadron 17, once a tool of annihilation in the hands of Yellow Diamond. She needed to finish her mission for the sake of her team, Diamonds be damned.
Damn, she was starting to sound like one of them.
The five foot tall gem simply shook her head as she strode down the boardwalk, having erased all signs of the Council insignia from her uniform as to avoid any confrontation. She wasn't in a position to start any fights yet, though she very much wanted to. Nevertheless, she needed a moment away from Obsidian. The scientist was likely working on one of her cosmic horrors, as evidenced by numerous pained screams and bouts of maniacal laughter.
A light sigh escaped her lips as she sat down at the edge of the walkway, idly swinging her legs over the beach. The Earth was strange, and her time there was a catalyst for what would come to be her mutiny. But how she would manage to pull it off without getting shattered by either party? She didn't know. Hopefully, there was a way.
