Name:
Green Calcite, Facet-11B9C Cut-86WN
Appeared Gender:
Female
Appeared Age:
Fairly young, but with a certain maturity to her features
Gemstone:
Green calcite
Gemstone Location:
The very center of her chest
Faction:
Homeworld, Military Sector
Corrupted:
No
Appearance:
Personality:
A scientist for Homeworld that prefers field work over desk work and files reports on anything and everything, claiming that it will yield valuable intel. She will talk to anyone who will listen, but she will almost always end with long-winded rants about mathematics no matter what the initial topic was. She often tries to avoid fighting if possible, claiming that it won't yield "useful" data, but the truth is simply that she doesn't want to get beat up. Still, she’s tenacious and just as focused on the application of her sciences in combat.
Green Calcite is the kind of gem who probably gets punched in the face daily. She is also the kind of gem who probably deserves to get punched in the face daily, because she's a cocky little punk. She has an ego a mile wide for a gem who only stands at 5'3". She is a total ham who thinks she is very cool, but she is absolutely not cool in any way whatsoever. She is completely devoted to the Great Diamond Authority, believing whole-heartedly in their objectives and undeniable superiority. The truth is, she does idolize and worship the four Diamonds, but she sometimes disagrees with the orders given to her, and at times, even finds herself disillusioned with the social caste set by the Great Diamond Authority.
Her own theory as to her off-and-on ability to make illogical decisions focuses on the relation between the Diamonds' superiority and the independent mind, that the connection between free thought and gem defectivity might be the cause of the behavior of traitorous gems. She often ends these bursts of philosophy with declarations about how it is speculation without evidence. In that way, she truly is still a scientist.
Likes:
Mathematics, books, exploration and discovery, the color yellow, praise.
Dislikes:
Every single kind of magnetic field, humans, small talk, working under pressure, being dismissed or ignored.
Fears:
Failure, defectivity, the possible existence of nontrivial zeroes with a real value other than 1/2 and the subsequent self-destruction of number theory, magic, the Crystal Gems, the Corruption (obviously).
Weapon:
She wields a powerful mint-colored lance with a dark green handguard and silver hilt, with her gemstone embedded at the pommel and in the center of the handguard.
Ability 1:
No supernatural abilities, but because of her hyperanalytic ability as a scientist, Calcite can very quickly capture the bigger picture or develop a course of action. This gives her no advantages in combat, as she is otherwise preoccupied on keeping herself alive. Despite this, it does lend itself to the fact that Calcite is a masterful strategist and valuable asset to any scenario.
On the other hand, the most valuable trait for a soldier is their ability to adapt to the changing battlefield, and this is Calcite's greatest weakness. If not everything is going according to plan, well. It's panic time.
Ability 2:
None/Undiscovered
Fusions:
None yet. ((One is planned later on.))
History:
Green Calcite was formed on Homeworld around 1,500 years ago. There were no discernible hiccups when she emerged, save for the excess of hot air in her skull. Her purpose was to serve in Blue Diamond's court as a researcher and scientist, and she was quickly assigned to her role. She kept catalogs of every matter both foreign and domestic, keeping detailed logs of every project she took part in, (which led to a small information storage crisis) just in case anything noteworthy were to happen so that it could be quickly reported to the higher-ups.
Nearly 700 years ago, Calcite was traded to Yellow Diamond as part of a large exchange of gems between the Yellow and Blue Diamonds. Now under Yellow Diamond's command, she acted as an intelligence officer and strategist, as well as a developer of military technology.
It was her own wide array of trades that led to her initial doubts regarding the caste system.
Serving in the Homeworld Military for as long as she did, Calcite learned the ins and outs of the battlefield operational environment, how to correctly assess and respond to hostile, friendly and neutral forces, the most efficient way to clear a civilian population from an area of combat operations, and other areas of interest.
When the Crystal Gem uprising began, Green Calcite was transferred to Pink Diamond's moon base at Yellow Diamond's command. She was to assist in the relief effort and evacuate stranded gems from the planet's surface, to assist in information collection, and, when the inevitable war breaks out, squash the rebellion in the name of Homeworld.
Character Arcs:
Not so Flawless - Calcite's faith in the Diamonds could be shaken by some event.
Made to Obey - Calcite will eventually conclude that, due to her occasional outbursts of philosophy, she herself is a defective gem. This terrifies her.
Of Diamonds and Pearls - Depending on the gems around her, Calcite might begin to adamantly disagree with the social caste system, believing that gems could be more than what they're made for.
Where Loyalty Lies - Despite potentially straying from Homeworld beliefs, it is incredibly unlikely she would ever join the Crystal Gems. However, it is possible she could see the value of life on Earth.
Sum of Her Parts - Calcite could be convinced to rebel against the established stigma surrounding fusion, and join into one herself.
AMETRINE - That fusion will become very aware of what she is. Further spoilers omitted.
