Name: Cassiterite F2-8TN
Appeared Gender: Female
Appeared Age: 35
Gemstone: Trillion-cut yellow cassiterite
Gemstone Location: Chest
Faction: Homeworld (Yellow Diamond)
Corrupted: No.
Appearance: Since scale doesn’t really show in the image, she’s between Garnet and Jasper in height, and closer to the latter in physical build.
Personality: Cassiterite is brash and confident, good at convincing others to follow her lead in the defence of Homeworld’s efforts to colonise Earth. She’s not as aggressive in battle as other commanders such as most Jaspers, however, and isn’t afraid to make the tactical decision to retreat or back down from a fight. Outside of battle, she’s extremely friendly and garrulous, laughing and chatting with her soldiers as equals. This mostly just extends to quartzes, though; she’s still somewhat disdainful and dismissive of Pearls and the like.
Cassiterite is dedicated to her cause, but she doesn’t tend to shatter gems needlessly, and has been known to show mercy and honour if her opponent is truly outmatched and has no chance of winning. This doesn’t quite extend to understanding of her enemy, though; she doesn’t see humans as being on the same level as gems or worth caring about at all, and while she doesn’t outright hate the Crystal Gems, she’s totally baffled as to why they bother fighting.
Likes: Her soldiers, Yellow Diamond, well-executed plans, taking the high ground.
Dislikes: Surprises, people who are sloppy or unprepared, people with no sense of humour.
Fears: Being surrounded and/or outgunned, having her convictions challenged, finding out she was wrong about something she believed in strongly.
Weapon: A glaive/guan dao, with a dark brown haft about as long as Cassiterite is tall and a broad, single-edged slashing blade the same colour as her gem. She can slice normally with it, use the flat of the blade to knock other gems about in a less damaging way, or kneel and sight along it like a rifle to fire powerful energy blasts. The blasts are accurate and explode on impact, but there’s a lot of recoil and it takes a moment to charge, so she only uses them at long range or before charging into battle.
Ability: Tactical Projection
Ability 1: Once Cassiterite has surveyed an area, she is capable of projecting detailed holographic maps including any structures and individuals situated there, effectively having a photographic memory of terrain and positioning. She uses these maps for planning attacks and avoiding ambushes. However, they only continue to "update" for 24 hours after she's left the immediate area, so if things change after that they become effectively useless.
Fusions: None.
History: Cassiterite F2-8TN came to Earth with Yellow Diamond's forces in the most recent wave of Homeworld gems before communications were cut off. She led a battalion of quartzes, mainly amethysts and jaspers, to quell the Crystal Gem rebellion in areas with complex terrain and tactical requirements. However, due to the unexpected advantage the Crystal Gems had in the form of fusions, she was outgunned and her forces scattered. Now, Cassiterite is trying to regroup and find new soldiers to work with her, determined to impose the Diamond Authority's order on Earth. She's based in the mountains, near a kindergarten, where she's established a ramshackle base camp for her renewed war effort.
Character Arcs: I'd like Cassiterite to have her beliefs challenged, whether that's learning to work with other Homeworlders in tough situations rather than commanding them, or maybe even coming around to the views of the Crystal Gems. Like most Homeworld soldiers (think Jasper but less angry) she's extremely dedicated, so a crisis of faith would provide some interesting opportunities for development.
