Name:
Ruby, Facet-1C8M Cut-6YK
Appeared Gender:
Female
Appeared Age:
Rather young, but she tries to act a lot older than she looks
Gemstone:
Standard faceted ruby
Gemstone Location:
Right squat in the middle of her big ol' forehead
Faction:
Homeworld, Military Sector
Corrupted:
No
Personality:
Ruby is pretty intense. She has flashes of really strong emotion that dominate how she acts, but these come just as quickly as they are extreme. She could be incredibly up and excited for something one moment, but one sad thought turns her into a miserable pile of ruby as though she’ll never be happy again.
She’s not one to keep things from people, particularly what she thinks of them and how she’s feeling. The catch here is that she’s not one to use words. She doesn’t really have a way to her sweeping emotions into words. Instead, she’s more likely to act on her emotions, making her rather impulsive.
She enjoys fighting, but not out of any sense of duty - she enjoys fighting for fight's sake. It's unsure whether Ruby enjoys the physical stimulation of pain or the emotional stimulation familiar to the thrill of a battle. It's not that she wants to get simply beaten up, though. If Ruby were trying to submit on purpose, that would make her fights pretty boring.
Like other rubies, Ruby is very loyal. She never forgets when people have done good by her, and she will also remember every time someone destroyed her trust in them. She’s one for the evidence. She isn't going to randomly disperse her goodwill and has to see things to believe them.
Ruby has a severe case of tunnel vision when she is given an order, and she will ignore all other things that aren't integral to the duty she's been assigned to do. If given more than one job at a time, though, she confuses her directives and is prone to mistakes. She has zero sense of self-preservation or individuality, and will very gladly die for any mission. She's just a ruby, after all. She doesn't believe anyone would miss her - another ruby will just take her place eventually.

Weapon:
Her signature weapon is a large (for a ruby, at least) ruby-themed hammer that she can swing around with the greatest of ease, which she uses to pummel everything she remotely dislikes. It may just look like a basic mallet, and it may just be a basic mallet, but it is this ruby's prized possession.
Ability 1:
Thermokinesis - Ruby's ability is to superheat her body to the point of auto-igniting the air around her, creating fire. When angered, (which is often) her internal body temperature can rise above the melting point of most metals, making her a very painful thing to touch. This ruby's pyrokinetic powers aren't very versatile and are more unpredictable than they are useful.
Ability 2:
Heat Resistance - Ruby, much like the rest of her fellow rubies, has an incredible resistance to high temperature extremes. She has very little, if any, protection from low temperature extremes, however.
Fusions:
None, but certainly has the potential to combine with other rubies.
History:
Ruby Cut-6YK. Under Homeworld's control, she knew herself only as Facet-1C8M Cut-6YK. She was one soldier out of many hundreds of thousands. That was okay. If she were to be shattered, no one would notice. That was okay. She knew her place. She was interchangeable. She was replaceable. She was expendable.
She was a ruby. And that was okay.
Her, along with four other nigh-identical gems, formed a squad. The five of them fought side-by-side through countless battles and skirmishes, and they fought hard. Her entire life has been engulfed by war and conflict, by loss and victory. But her squad made it all bearable, and they bonded like family. Of course, to the rest of Homeworld, they were just a standard ruby platoon.
As such, this standard ruby platoon was sent on a standard mission - investigate the rising suspicious activity on the planet Earth. It was a mission so simple that even rubies could do it. They were deployed by warp, as it was the most efficient form of travel four years ago. The rubies were so confident that they were already congratulating themselves for a job well done before they even deployed. What an easy mission!
They had no way to know that Rose Quartz would destroy the intergalactic warp hub that day.
They were halfway to Earth when their warp stream spluttered and died out, leaving the five of them stranded in warp space. This ruby tried to stay close to her squad, but with no means of propelling herself, Ruby drifted far away from her squad, losing them to the frigid vacuum of warp space.
Peace is more like a state of mind than a particular place; like beauty, it’s in the eye of the beholder. A ruby who is first taught about the concept of "peace" imagines some beautiful, perfect plane and gazes toward it as an ideal. But once you actually reach that supposedly "perfect" plane only to be trapped there for four years, like Ruby, you might grow jaded of it. It is for this reason that this Ruby looks at war with the same idealism others hold toward peace.
But it's been four whole years since then. It's only a matter of time before some gem's warp reaches its destination with little hitchhiker.
Character Arcs:
Letting off Steam - Ruby, after being stuck outside the warp stream for so long, will take her short-lived lunacy out on whatever she can find, starting fights and causing a general ruckus. Her #1 desire is to oust and shatter Rose Quartz for the time she spent in warp space.
A Cold Wind Blows - She will eventually calm down after meeting other gems on the planet, and offers her loyalties to them.
Roses Fall, Thorns Remain - Ruby may grow adjusted to Earth, though she will never forgive Rose Quartz for destroying the galaxy hub and dooming her squad to an eternity in warp space.
Loyalist or Renegade - Ruby must make a choice; loyalty to her duties or loyalty to her friends. Depending on her choice, Ruby will either rejoin Homeworld or become a Crystal Gem.
Just Another Machine/Protector of Earth - Ruby will participate in the Great War, for/against Homeworld.
