Variscite nodded as moved among the trees. She desided to do something stupid that she knew would work as she zipped through the trees. Variscite suddenly turned around desperately and made herself visible to the two pirates.
"Would you look at that! It's the ringleader of the opposing pirates!" Variscite earnestly spoke as she pointed to a derping squirrel with a bandana tied to its head.
She had found the squirrel in the trees and used the pirate bandana she stored in her gem before departure, thinking she may need it for the adventure, and tied it to the animal.
"After it!" Variscite screamed.
"Aye Aye, matey Varis!" replied Hooky.
"I'll wrestle him down and kick him twenty eight times!" the bodiless pirate yelled.
As the two sprinted off after the frantic squirrel, Variscite grappled into the trees and rapidly dashed through them, catching up to Sulfur without fear of slower people being left behind. As she ran she occasionally just ran lightly from one tree to another, using the tree branches as bridges.
As Sulfur walked he felt a disturbance on his shoulders. It was a feeling that he was all too acquainted with. He groaned and turned slightly to look behind him.
"Amethyst, I do not want a massage. If I did I would have asked for one." Amethyst giggled at his angry reaction and lifted his hands. Amethyst placed his hands behind his body as he walked. Chalcedony growled and Amethyst and rolled his eyes. Sulfur turned to notice two of his comrades chasing after a squirrel. He slumped in his posture, disappointed by their lack of intelligence, yet grateful at the same time. He then felt the familiar annoying feeling. He grumbled.
"Amethyst! Stop-" He gasped as he turned, noticing that it wasn't amethyst massaging him, but an octopus. He yelped and sliced the creature in half. "Oh goodness... why..."
Variscite continued from above watching the scene below. When octopus guts flew into the air, she evaded them and considered what to do next. It was likely that the pirate would lead them to a real-... another pirate ship, and they would be greeted by thirty to forty other men. Now was a chance for Variscite and Sulfur to prepare and think through their options.
It would be difficult to use combat like Brazilian jiu-jitsu on several weak opponents. Maybe taekwondo or karate would work well. But Krav Maga was likely the best for the time being.
Krave Maga was an Israeli-style martial arts with the objective of attacking while defending. It was basically the idea of 'striking' when an opponent attacks and leaves himself or herself open. The combat ready gem would simply let the attacks of several adversaries be their own demise.
They soon reached an enormous skull-shaped rock. Sulfur turned toward what was left of his crew to explain the plan.
"It seems we have found the hostile pirate's hideout. Now their base of operations is most likely protected, so we cannot simply barge into it recklessly. Here is the plan. The majority of you, all of you except for Variscite and I, will head toward the structure. You will pretend to attack it, yet this is a distraction, to make sure that Variscite and I can enter undetected. We will enter through the eyeholes of the rock. They would probably get us close to the leader. Any questions?"
Amethyst raised his hand. Sulfur glared at him and after a short while Amethyst lowered his hand, getting the message.
Variscite played with a pebble while sitting deep in the socket of the scull shaped rock's eye, still hidden from view. Despite her laid back gesture she seemed not only prepared and alert, but restless and hungry to begin.
This gem had no need to ask any questions to her master, Sulfur. She only longed to begin, and, in doing so, show off her stealth capabilities. While contemplating this matter, she held her hand, wondering if she was ready for what she was about to do.
The clever grappler had successfully lost all of Sulfur's false pirate lackeys. None of them would be needed. Sulfur's minions would be enough of a distraction.
As The female gem held up her hand to shield herself from the light, she noticed a hooded character on board the ship. The strange character was staring at her, unresponsive to any sound or action around him.
Sulfur gave the signal and the decoy crew advanced. Sure enough several pirates emerged from the skull rock. Amethyst and Chalcedony were clearly the best fighters, their skills allowed the Broken gems' crew to fight without any casualties. However, their attack wasn't the aim. Sulfur and Variscite slipped through the eyes of the skull rock.
Inside there was darkness, except for one beam of light that shone in through a hole in the rock. The beam illuminated the Silhouette of a figure. The figure chuckled a bit under her breath.
"I am Captain Peridot, leader of the black mast." The figure cackled. "It only makes sense that gems would be leading this random assault. It also only makes sense that I would be the one to fight them."
Sulfur ignored her dramatic speech and turned toward the entrance of the fortress.
"I`ll go and aid our humans, you can deal with this gem." Sulfur mumbled, leaping into the darkness. Captain Peridot grumbled and summoned an axe from her gem. Her gaze locked on Variscite.
Variscite greeted the peridot with a disturbing grin.
"You... remind me of someone I used to share close acquaintance with. She's dead now. But I can assure you, I will not hesitate to harm you because you remind me of her. Come at me."
"Variscite's lips pealed back as she smirked and sprinted up a rock wall. Soon, the warrior's momentum carried her to the top of the skull. The combat ready fighter calmly launched both of her grapples at Peridot.
In the likely event that the gem captain avoided the attack, Variscite would jump off of the celling and drop her opponent, delivering a kick combined with gravitational momentum that would surely take off the head of any ordinary gem in an instant.
If she dodged that, well, several slashes with Variscite's gem weapon would likely do the job.
The Peridot captain sneered. Several bits of metal floated into the air around her.
"Hmph! Trying to act tough huh? I can see right through you! It's all talk, that's how it is with dongs like you!" The Peridot said. She leapt backward as Variscite's attacks came. The pieces of metal however blocked most of the hits. One hit sent the Peridot sprawling backward, but she leapt to her feet quickly. "Taste my power ya clod!"
With a dramatic wave of her arms the Peridot sent the pieces of metal flying toward Variscite. They surrounded her as they flew, limiting her possibilities for dodging. The Peridot seemed to think that this attack would be sure to poof her enemy, as a smirk crossed her face.
Variscite's grin turned to a frown as the seemingly weak gem managed to evade all three of her attacks at once and returned another immediately after recovering. Even so, the flexible gem broke into a sharp sprint from the left. She ran so low to the ground that her stomach almost touched the floor. It almost appeared as if she were laying on the floor and running in an upright position at the same time. By running low, Variscite dodged nearby metal pieces and moved at an unnaturally fast speed to completely dodge the attack.
After doing so, she rotated on her ankle and changed course for the Capitan.
If successful, the green gem brought her trailing foot up and kneed her opponent in the jaw hard and fast. The blow was also pressurized. Once it struck, the Broken Gem would use her grapples to place eleven meters of distance between herself and the peridot.
If the fighter failed, she would through a false kick and then bring her legs up and over her head preforming four successive, 'half backflips' until she was the same distance away.
"Oh, so even a gem like you is shockingly strong in this region of the world. No matter. I am stronger."
Variscite charged at the peridot again, gaining distance quickly with the intent of dicing the gem with her hooks.
Variscite's first attack turned out to be successful. The peridot captain grunted in pain and stumbled backward as she was nailed straight in the jaw. She grumbled in anger at having been attacked by the gem. However, she was quick to recover. Two large pieces of metal moved in and blocked Variscite's grappling hooks. This would not allow her to gain distance from the Peridot by normal means, and if she weren't able to stop herself quickly she would ram herself right into the metal.
"You should expect more from a Peridot! Metal is my power, and I've got a ton of metal all around me!" The Pirate said, charging with her axe. She started to swing the axe wildly at her opponent. "Hyah! Hyah! Hyah! Take some of this! Hyah! And some of theeeeese!"
Variscite, unable to move her grapples out from under the metal blockades resided to pull herself in closer to her enemy rather than further away.
Upon retracting her grapples, the gem pulled out her short swords, but, unable to use them with chains in her way, only blocked with them and dodged the axe swings until she came to her senses, feeling stupid. She desummoned her gem weapons and tried to gain distance once more.
If successful, the gem resummoned her weapons and advanced, slashing across with her grapples at a rapid speed while she circled the opposing gem and ran, hoping to find a way past the paridot's defensive barriers.
The inquiring figure had heard that peridot's had a high resistance to pressurized poofing so they could avoid being crushed by heavy objects, and thus unable to carry out their technician duties to the Diamonds. Fortunately my grappling hooks are better for piercing and penetrating than crushing.
The Peridot's eyes grew to the size of sausages as Variscite charged. She blocked as many attacks as she could with her axe but it was swiftly plucked from her arms. She let out an awkward scream and bolted from Variscite's attacks. The metal blocks then dropped between them. The Peridot cackled and leapt on top of her metal weapons.
"Well well well! It seems my metal powers have proooved too much for you! Ya little pebble! Nyeh heh heh!" The Peridot cackled. She stood in a gaudy pose with her hands on her hips. A goofy smirk was on her face, which was intended to be menacing. "Some sort of dirtwad like you would never succeed in defeating the captain of... the black facet!"
Variscite grinned, although it seemed to be out of frustration and anger rather than joy.
In less than a second, Variscite sprinted up the metal structure to where the peridot captain stood and slashed across.
If successful, she would knock the captain off of her pedestal and send her back to the center of her metallic structures.
If unsuccessful, the warrior would leap into the air and kick so strong that she would knock over the metal under the peridot's feet and send her tumbling to the bottom.
Assuming that she evaded this... Variscite would charge again, swinging more kicks and punches, both accelerated with the help of her grappling hooks.
Yet it was still most likely that the captain would end up in the middle of her barriers, which now would be a prison and not a strategic position any longer.
If this was the case, Variscite would grapple down with one hook and hit the peridot full force with the other grappling hook. The blow would aimed directly for the gem. If it struck, the peridot would no doubt be shattered.
The Peridot immediately started an evil laugh. However she closed her eyes while she did and did not notice as the gem gained distance. The slash wasn't enough to poof her, but it did definitely knock her down. As the Peridot fell she went in between her metal weapons as planned. As Variscite game down the Peridot flailed her arms in attempt to grab the grappling hook. However, the Peridot succeeded in grabbing the grappling hook, it did pierce her gem. The Peridot would if successful, throw Variscite into the ground.
The peridot hit the ground hard and struggled to stand, her physical form flickering.
"I...am the captain of the black facet... You... cannot... defeat... me..." The Peridot choked, collapsing. As she did the gem poofed. All that was left of her gem was shards. Sulfur walked into the room and noticed the shards. This brought a small grin to his face.
"I Suppose I should tell you the true nature of this test." Sulfur said. "I lied when I said that there was no warp here, because there is, but it is in the basement of this rock. This place is crawling with armed humans, and so warping in would have gotten us both shattered. I didn't give this information away to prevent all of you asking questions. Are you ready to head for our true goal? Are you ready to find the treasure? "
Variscite was still shocked by the peridot's capability, but glad as this was one off her first victories against an actual gem in a long time.
That peridot... she was probably about the strength of a White Diamond elite; one of the fighters that would come when we, a Yellow Diamond squad, failed to defeat a powerful corruption. When a mission was too difficult for us to handle, they always would show up.
Variscite then realized that she had not even paid attention to the Diamond emblem on the gem Capitan. Had there even been one? This gem had to have either belonged to White Diamond originally or held a position of honor as one of Yellow Diamonds special commanders...
Variscite listened carefully when Sulfur spoke, already shocked with his reasoning and intentions for the mission. This was not the true goal, then what was? Treasure?
The resolved gem figured it would be best not ask.
