Sulfur looked at Howlite from the corner of his eyes as he spoke, still angry. As Howlite spoke however, he would occasionally nod.
"Apology accepted Howlite. I see that you understand. A gem like you will never be trusted, no matter how much I like it." Sulfur said, looking at the floor. "Now I suppose we can make an effort to patch things up."
Sulfur was about to say something else when Howlite suddenly hugged him. His eyes went wild and he quickly started to panic. Sulfur was tempted to stab him, but decided not to, with tremendous effort. Instead he only flailed around.
"RELEASE ME YOU TWIT! STOP THIS HORRID GESTURE! RELEASE ME! " Sulfur hissed. Eventually Sulfur couldn't take it anymore. He slid down and grabbed Howlite's waist. If successful he would throw Howlite to the floor a few feet in front of him. "You know that I despise embraces of any kind!"
Howlite chuckled as Sulfur threw him. He stood up and brushed himself off. "Relax Boss. That's called a hug. It's what normal people do to express feelings. It's non threatening in any way. A hug says 'i care about you.' typically families and soldiers do that as a sign of bond. I don't see why you get so worked up over it but it's okay. If you don't want me to hug you then I simply won't hug you. Now onto the task at hand." He turned to the Quartz. "The rebellion is in bad shape. You could join them if you wish and most likely die. However there IS another option if you don't like Homeworld. You could join us."
Prasiolite was shocked at Howlite’s suggestion, and couldn't even fathom why he’d think she would want to join the broken gems. She knew nothing about them, and even though she didn't want to die with the rebels, she would never even be able to shatter a corrupted gem, let alone a fully-formed intelligent being. “I…” She begins, sounding incredibly sombre. “...I’m going to have to decline your offer. I can't shatter, I won't even destabilise a gem unless it's necessary, and you gems seem to do it almost like it's a sport. There’s more than just that, though. I've hidden myself for years hypothesising about what life is going to be like fighting against Homeworld for a cause that I care about so, so much, and I can't wait anymore. I have to see what it’s like.” She then stands up from the ground, and, brushing of the sand from her body, turns to face Howlite. “If the rebellion ends up being something completely different to what I'm expecting, then I'll come and find you. Either of you. I'm sure our paths will cross again at some point anyway, and when they do it'll be for a good reason.” She then diverts the conversation even more towards the rebellion, and awkwardly says: “I know this is a lot of me to ask, but would you mind pointing me in the direction of their base or even taking me there yourselves? Thank you for what you've done so far. You've given me the hope that there's a life for me here on earth, free from the burden of Homeworld and the Diamonds’ tyrannous reign.”
"You know that I despise hugs Howlite. It threatens me, I do not like someone's form pressed against mine. Still, I appreciate the intent." Sulfur said, crossing his arms. He gasped when Howlite asked the gem to join them. "Howlite you-"
The gem then revealed that she didn't want to be a Broken gem. Sulfur nodded at this, somewhat relieved.
"Yes, only someone with a will like iron can stomach a shattering. Don't worry, it's only natural to be uncomfortable shattering a gem." Sulfur said with a hand gesture. "Also, as far as their base, my relationship with the crystal gems isn't too positive. I don't think it would be wise for me to take you there. Howlite on the other hand is a traitor to me and is on quite good terms with one of the rebels. I will walk with you until we arrive, but then I must leave you."
There was a low, hard rumble, and a glimmer in the sky. Something extremely hot and extremely bright closed on the trio of Gems almost too rapidly to process, and a sonic boom rippled out across the desert sands as Meta Autunite dropped back below the sound-barrier and descended on the trio.
"What are three Gems doing all the way out here?"
The tall, green-and-purple Crystal Gem eyed all three with a dubious expression, eyes lingering with extra suspicion on Sulfur and Howlite.
"Combing the dunes for trinkets?"
Meta cocked an eyebrow with the question, and her tone suggested she knew very well that they were doing absolutely no such thing. It was the first part of the question that was genuine.
Howlite shook his head. "Boss I'd be cut down where I stood if I led her there. That or they'd never trust her. If a rebel dropped a gem at our doorstep and said she wants to join, would we completely trust her? No. That's redundant." He suddenly stopped when he heard a voice. He turned to face the gem. A rebel! He held up one hand in front of him in a calming motion. "We mean no harm. Don't start anything and there won't be anything. The Count and I wish only peace." He then whispered to Sulfur. "If this rebel strikes first then I have every right to torture it. So don't strike yet. Wait for her to attack first. Then once you poof her, she's mine. She'll tell you everything you want to know." He turned to face the gem and smiled. "If you must know, we are the Broken Gems. This green guy here is Count Sulfur. He's like a cute cuddly teddy bear. If cute cuddly teddy bears were incredibly violent. I myself am Sir Howlite. His Knight and protector. I dabble I combat as well as negotiations. So let's all just chill out and all get along."
"Wait, this is one of the rebels? Don't try anything. For my sake." Prasiolite asks quietly, after hearing what Howlite had said. She then turns towards Meta, and after looking her up and down so as to try and gauge her strength, said "...And I'm Prasiolite; A demolitionist gem with big ambitions." She then moves towards Meta Autunite slowly and with her hands in plain sight in order to come off as friendly. "I'm interested in joining the rebellion, and these two were going to help me. I've actually been here - on earth, I mean - for a few years now; I've just had to hide myself from any potential Homeworld based threats." Prasiolite then Summons an enlarged version of her weapon, and holds it over her shoulders in front of Meta, smiling. "I can prove my worth, If you want to see If I'd be of any use to you in the rebellion."
A gem suddenly crashed near the group. Sulfur winced, surprised by this unexpected and sudden encounter. He looked at the gem with a glazed look. They seemed to be a crystal gem. He then heard Howlite making a plan. As it seemed reasonable Sulfur nodded.
"Agreed." He whispered.
Sulfur rolled his eyes and seemed mildly irritated by Howlite's introduction, but since he didn't act much he seemed able to overlook it. He cleared his throat.
"Hm...yes this appears to be one of the rebels... quite the obnoxious sort." Sulfur said, crossing his arms. "Gem, state your purpose here. If you want to know our business it is only polite to state yours first. At any rate, I have already been introduced, so please do as etiquette suggests and introduce yourself properly."
Meta Autunite listened as the two suspect-looking Gems groused and chattered about this and that between themselves.
They were not of interest to her. She'd turn their asses into glass along with every grain of sand in a half-mile radius if they made a move in her direction, but until that moment, they were background-noise to her.
"Oh. I'm afraid you've misunderstood."
Meta grinned sharply and with absolutely no genuine mirth whatsoever at Sulfur.
"I don't care about your business in the slightest. Prasiolite is the one I'm here for. And I have heard her words, and I think she and I will get along just fine."
Dropping her eyes from the Broken Gems dismissively (but keeping her energy-sensing abilities carefully trained on them. they felt dangerous, potentially.) Meta Autunite shifted demeanor instantly: she smiled kindly at Prasiolite and offered one gloved hand.
"If you truly wish to be aqquainted with our cause, you'll need to see the Temple and meet some of the others. It will be exponentially faster to fly there. I assure your safety, though the wind-noise may be slightly jarring."
Howlite chuckled at the rebel. "You seem to have things covered. Of course, you rebels always do. Which is why you're doing such a SUPER job with the war effort. Speaking of which, do you guys even have a set plan? I mean, you're going against an infinite army. But it's none of my business. If you guys plan to go down swinging, then by all means go ahead. You'll be dealt with soon enough. Run along now." He turned to Sulfur with a grin. "Let's go Boss." He then whispered silently so only Sulfur could hear. "I can track them. If you fly and carry me, stay within a kilometer of them, and I can track them all the way to the temple. Just a thought."
Excited about what lies ahead, Prasiolite begins to smile and took Meta’s hand; grasping it tightly in preparation for flight. She then drops her weapon on the floor, and it disappears into smoke a few seconds later. “I'm willing to go, by all means. I hope you'll be able to find a place for me in the rebellion, and I'll do what I can to help the cause. Including fighting against the upper-crusts using the muscle I was made to use.”
She then turns to Howlite and Sulphur, who have been chatting amongst themselves while she’s been speaking to Meta. Rather loudly, she says. “HEY YOU TWO! Thanks for everything you said, you've reassured me that earth isn't so bad once you look past the horrible heat and isolation haha. Thanks.”
Finally, Prasiolite turns back to Meta, looking her in her eyes. With a huge grin on her face, she eagerly says “Alright. I’m ready to go.”
Sulfur was extremely irritated by the rebel, and when Howlite threw a few verbal jabs at her he couldn't help but grin. He put his hands in his pockets and started to walk away with Howlite. Howlite then whispered his plan to Sulfur, who nodded. He was visibly glad to see that Howlite was conjuring up a plan such as this. When Prasiolite thanked them Sulfur turned and gave her a half wave, smiling. His smile quickly faded as he turned away from her.
"A nice thought at that I'd say." Sulfur whispered. Although his face didn't seem too eager he clearly was excited. He seemed to be deep in thought as he concentrated on what they were about to do, considering any disadvantages. "Alright, climb aboard once they are at a safe distance."
Meta only really seemed to find amusement in Howlite's verbal thorns. The Crystal Gem let out a throaty chuckle as she took Parsiolite's hand.
"Homeworld threw their best at me once. And lost it. I'm excited to see what they throw and lose this time."
Turning her gaze back down to the Gem who's hand she held, Meta intoned:
"I'm sorry, but I'll need to hold you... Well.. Close."
She bent and picked up Prasiolite at just above knee-level, encouraging the Gem to fold into a sort of resting position as Meta held her across the shoulder-blades with the other arm.
"Hold onto my shoulders."
Meta suggested, gradually hovering upwards.... And then blasting off like a rocket.
The entire area, Sulfur and Howlite by extension, were buffeted with a wave of searing-hot sand as Meta's acceleration created a small blast-wave and filled the entire area with dust.
Meta accelerated to 300 mph in roughly 3 seconds, created a convection-bubble over Prasiolite to shield her from the worst of the wind and air-friction, then accelerated to approximately Mach 1, causing a sonic boom to roll out across the horizon as she screamed upwards and away until she was only a faint streak from the perspective of anyone on the ground, gaining even more speed..
Moving at roughly 2 miles per second now, and cruising at approximately 10,000 feet up, the ground from Prasiolite's perspective would stretch on almost forever, moving rapidly under them, clouds blocking the view now-and-again, bodies of water shining far below....
It was possible to make out the barest hint of a curve to the horizon if one looked hard enough.
Howlite chuckled as the hot sand scorched his skin. "Sand? They believe I can be defeated by sand? Damn idiots all of them. Alright Boss let's go." He climbed on Sulfur's back. "Onward! Mush!" He pointed upwards as if he were directing a sled dog. As they took off he smiled. "I've missed you Boss. I don't say this much but you're the best thing that's happened to me. From the moment we met, I knew we'd be best friends. We've done big things together. We still will. You and I may argue sometimes but we'll be ok. Enough sappy stuff. What say we get to that temple and raise some hell?" He became silent. Partially because he was tracking them but mostly because he was planning a song for when they got there.
Prasiolite laughed as she flew through the air, gripping high to Meta so as not to fall down into the vast ocean below her. Looking down at it, she began to grin even more. Although she'd seen the earth's ocean upon entry into the earth's atmosphere, that had been a few years ago and Prasiolite had forgotten about how vastly different to Earth is to Homeworld. Every so often she'd catch a glimpse of the dark shoals of fishes, gliding through the water in a figure of eight, and occasionally their silvered scales would reflect small amounts of light up onto the surface. As she passed clouds and birds, Prasiolite began to understand why so many gems left here of their own accord unlike herself who was forced to. "It's beautiful." She said to Meta, unaware of if she could even hear her or not over the sound of air rushing past them.
Rat: I'm gonna try my darnedest. Posted an ad for RP in the Character Plot area, so alls I gotta do now is wait I think?
