Padparadscha's deployment ship orbited the atmosphere of Earth as its sensors scanned for any traces of Homeworld communicators. It locked onto a pulsating distress signal. With a wave of her hand, the pod readied itself for a nitrogen laden entrance. Friction melded the pink surface of the pod into a fiery glaze, but her advanced seating elements left her as still as deep space. She combed through her mission dossier for a final time when the ship descended into the troposphere.
Sylvines? She thought to herself with a creased brow, How did they even get into this mess? I will have to get to the bottom of this.
The ship glided past the sparkling sea, multiple scanning systems working to pinpoint the distress signal. She was beginning to get close enough for the communicator on her wrist to light up, inviting the distressed party to contact her. "Sylvine Squad bound for R76J, what is your situation?" She sent her message over the communicator, "Repeat, Sylvine Squad bound for R76J, what is your situation?"
Spade walked alone in the streets when suddenly her communicator received a signal. She quickly answered it. "Yes! This is Spade reporting! We're all trapped down here. The ship's destroyed and we can't get back home. We can't continue our mission until we get off this planet." She was so excited. She could finally go home. "I am alone unfortunately. The squad split up to find help. It's just me. I'll have to inform the others of your arrival. Umm just to ask, who is coming to our rescue exactly? I just wanna make sure we'll be safe." She then sent her coordinates to the mysterious savior and remained there, hoping help would soon arrive. Things were looking up for Spade.
"Padparadscha facet 10C8A cut 8QE, deployed from the Sol Moonbase on peremptory orders," She answered with haste,"Once the coast is clear I will prepare for a landing."
Padpara scanned their surroundings for signs of organic or non organic life, and her sensors were only able to pick up those of Spade and some insignificant signals from small organics in the immediate area. She had a feeling in her gut that this operation would have to be quick, however. The primitive constructions of organic lifeforms were risen up all around them. The pod locked onto Spade, and it's propulsion system kicked up dust as it made its landing. The docking implements deployed and after full touchdown, the locks disengaged, and the door retracted into the shell of the ship. Padaradscha stood up, and glided down to the ground.
"So, you really are all alone out here. Do you know where the rest of your crew is?" She looked Spade up and down, keeping her eyes fixed on the gem. "I'm to pick up four sylvines,"
Spade saw the gem and immediately perked up. "Oh thank goodness! We're all trapped here!" She quickly regained her composure and saluted her. "I regret to inform you that my squad has separated. We're all looking for a way back home. But now I've found you so I can go fetch the others. Not yet though. It's gonna be hard finding them. They all split up in different directions. They could be anywhere on Earth by now. We're not even supposed to be here. This whole thing is all my fault. I had misread the coordinates and got us stranded here. I still can't believe I did this. I jeapordized the mission. If we don't get to our destination I'll be shattered for sure."
Padparadscha listened closely to the Sylvine, her visage stoic as she stood with her arms crossed. She analyzed Spade's face, the slight quivers in her voice, the shifting of the gem's body. Spade seemed to believe what she was saying, but Padparadscha sensed something off. There had to be something more to this, it was too glaring a mistake for a whole team of gems to overlook. Perhaps it wasn't unusual for a deck of sylvines, but Padpara was still suspicious about the circumstances, showing in the slow up-turn of her lip as she listened.
"At ease, Sylvine. We will find the others. We Padparadscha like to be thorough, and I'd like to see evidence of this mishap. There are gems on Earth who are not above messing with Homeworld signals, they may be trying to acquire tech they shouldn't otherwise have," She smiled, "I'd like to see the site of the crash, do you remember where the ship landed?"
Spade thought about it. "I-I think so. I can take us there if you'd like." She started to lead Padparadscha to the crash site. Upon arriving she frowned. "Here's what's left of the ship. Just an empty husk of metal and a big crater. The coordinate error happened when I had mistaken a zero for the letter O. They look so similar on a computer! Why couldn't there be an easy way to distinguish them? Anyways, my squad is all spread out like I said. No one out here but us. I wish Sulfur was here. He'd keep me safe. I miss him. I should've asked him to come with me me. I should never have traveled the city alone. Everything is so scary here!"
Padpara locked up her ship and left a trail as she followed Spade to the crash site. As they came upon the wreckage, her eyes widened. The damage was so extensive that the ship's hull had been obliterated, it was completely unrecognizable. As she listened to Spade speak, Padpara summoned a thin strand of plasma, and with surgical precision, began to hunt through the remains of the ship for the control panel. What she found was a crumpled, gutted piece of metal. When Spade finished speaking, she looked at the sylvine intently.
Sulfur? I don't remember a sulfur being mentioned in the dossier...Padparadscha thought to herself, but knew that Spade wasn't attempting to hide anything from her, so she continued to inspect the damaged control panel. She pulled out her slate screen, and took a 3D reference shot, as well as some internal shots of the panel. Not that it would render much information, it wasn't much more than a wad of metal at this point. Before she put her slate away, she checked the dossier for any mention of a Sulfur, but found there was none.
"You sylvines are a tough lot, most gems wouldn't have survived an impact like this," Padpara brought the control panel closer to her, and used her power to melt it entirely, just to be sure that any sensitive information wouldn't be left to scavengers on Earth. "So, this Sulfur, where did you encounter them?"
Howlite was stalking the 2 gems from the distance. One was a Sylvine. The other a Padparadscha. They would be easy to deal with. Very easy. But first it was time to blend in. He approached the gems from the shadows and gave them a friendly smile. "why hello there! I'm Howlite. Facet 57ZD Cut 9XR. I was coming here to get a drink but it appears that you are in need of help. I mean you no harm. What exactly is the trouble?" He stared at the Sylvine. She had mentioned Sulfur. How did she know that name? If she knew Sulfur, she'd be dead. A Quartz couldn't beat Sulfur, much less a Sylvine. What was going on here? He had to know.
"I met Sulfur and Em not too far from here. Still in this city. They protected me. Kept me safe." Suddenly another gem appeared. A Howlite! Howlites were hunters. Assassins. But there was only one. Howlites always fight in packs of 9. They must be planning an ambush. She hid behind the Padparadscha. "Please be careful! Howlites are dangerous. The other 8 could be anywhere in the city. They could be right behind us." She looked behind them and saw no one. "y-you'll p-protect r-right? I don't wanna die. I'm only 3. I'm too young. I still have to complete my mission. What'd we do?" She'd never been so scared. He knew he must've been after her. The Diamonds must've already discovered of her failure and sent a Howlite pack after her.
(ooc: No problem, I know how busy life can get <3 ps it doesn't matter much but I wanted to clear up that Paddy is a corundum/sapphire not a quartz haha)
Listening closely to Spade, Padpara took a stark mental note of this. She didn't see every order that every gem had been sent on, but it seemed unlikely that a homeworld Sulfur--and an em, perhaps emerald-- would have pursued this sylvine's inquiry without reporting back to the headquarters. These must have been rogue gems, and in that case, this little sylvine was very lucky to be standing here now.
When the Howlite spoke, Padparadscha whirled around, her eyes wide with shock before she realized what was going on. She narrowed her eyes, the intentions of this gem were obscure, she couldn't yet gain a reading on him with her ability.
(ooc: is he being truthful about not meaning harm?)
"All is well," She insisted to Spade, hoping that the little gem wouldn't dispense too much information in her babbling. Despite not yet having an accurate assessment of this gem, she took a cordial manner and turned back to face the strange Howlite, "Padparadscha facet 10C8A cut 8QE,". She stopped short of introducing herself as a Moonbase affiliate, knowing full well that this gem could be an enemy-- the Howlite hadn't addressed her with any honorifics such as clarity or majesty, either this was a gem without a sense of convention, or a rogue. "This situation is under control. May I ask what your purpose is beyond this present matter?"
(about the Quartz thing, I know she's a corrundum. I was saying that if a Quartz couldn't do it, neither could a Sylvine.)
Howlite chuckled. "What's the matter? Worried I'm some Crystal Gem? Well you definitely don't need to worry about that. As you can see." He showed her the Broken Gems logo on his left shoulder. "I am no rebel. But I'm not a loyal either. Here's the deal, I'm here to help. Instead of questioning it, why not just accept my help?" He looked at the Sylvine. "And who's this little Sylvine? Don't worry little one. I'm not gonna hurt you. Though I do have a question. I heard that you know Sulfur. What's your connection to him?" He put a hand on her shoulder. "It's okay Sylvine. You're safe." For now. He'd be more than willing to carve into both of them. Slowly. Painfully. But he had to wait until they struck first in order to satisfy his moral side.
Spade was incredibly scared right now. Until she saw it. The emblem. Sulfur wore the same one! "You work with Sulfur don't you?" She turned to Padparadscha. "Sulfur wore the exact same emblem. I don't remember exactly what it meant. But I'm pretty sure he's on our side. Em was a loyal and Sulfur helped her. And this guy works with him." She turned back to Howlite. "umm... Excuse me Sir? I'm going home soon... Can you tell Sulfur that..." She stopped. Now she was unsure if she wanted to leave him. He'd been so kind to her. He quickly blurted out to Padparadscha. "Can we bring Sulfur with us?!" She blushed with embarrassment and cowered in fear when she realized she had spoken out of turn.
(ooc: Whoops! I read it wrong, sorry lol! Also, ty for the pm )
The true intentions of this gem were strung out and muddled. Padparadscha felt her sense being tugged in all directions, and left her without a clear understanding of this stranger. Her eyes remained slender, fiery windows into the nauseated frustration that broiled inside of her. With no guidance from her sense of truth, and no bodyguards to help her, she would have to rely on her wit while facing a gem who was made for fighting. The Howlite was poised like one of Earth's lurking predators-- dangerous, and not to be trusted.
Padparadscha listened in utter silence as Howlite confessed his standing with the Broken Gems. As far as she was concerned, any gem who wasn't loyal to Homeworld was rebelling against their purpose-- the intention that the Diamond's had crafted them with.
The sapphire twitched when Howlite placed his hand on Spade, but stayed her ground. To hear that Spade had so blindly trusted such gems made her feel sick, she clenched her fists. The poor sylvine was lucky to be standing here at all, after her horrible crash, and now these encounters with prowling rogues. This Sulfur may have used her for information, or worse, they may have gutted the ship before Padparadscha was able to destroy the sensitive information within.
After Spade's outburst, Padparadscha cast her furious glare to the little gem. "No," She said, firm and absolute,"Never,"
Her eyes flickered up to meet Howlite's gaze, "I don't need assistance from any kind of mutinous, duplicitous gem. You're lost, and you relinquished your own map to purpose. I'm not here to deal with the likes of you, I'm here to bring Homeworld's assets back to their intended stations,"
Howlite chuckled. "Oh please. What're you 2 gonna do? I could take you both down if I wanted to. But I don't." He pointed to Spade. "be glad she's in your company Padparadscha. I don't hurt Sulfur's allies. You're safe. Now that that's out of the way, let's get to work. I'll help you with whatever you need. In exchange I expect you to not come looking for me once it's over. Agreed?" He extended a hand to Padparadscha. He hoped she'd accept the hand shake. It would be a shame if he had to fight. Of course he wouldn't engage directly but if they started it... Oh well. He gave her a malicious smile. This would go nicely. Very nicely.
Despite everything, Padparadscha knew that what the Howlite said was true. She wasn't a fighter-- she was a small gem meant for the gathering of information. In a fight against this apparently experienced gem, with only Spade for backup, both of them would be shattered. She sorely regretted not bringing an entourage with her. What had begun as a simple pick-up had devolved into a debacle beyond her station. There was a small chance that this Howlite had confronted them alone, but she couldn't take that chance. Broken Gems could be lurking in the shadows all around them, for all she knew. By design, this cut of gem she faced were much more adept at hunting gems than she was. Perhaps it was better to keep this gem where she could see him-- until of course, she was given an assured chance to strike.
Everything was off about him, her gut twisted as she returned an awkward smile to Howlite. She glared at his hand, not quite sure what to make of this gesture, but whatever it was, she was above it. "Perhaps we could make use of your keen eyesight," the sapphire forced herself to utter, her nose instinctively turned up and away. She cleared her throat, knowing her hands were tied in this situation. Padparadscha hoped that her actions wouldn't result in the capture and demise of her comrades, "Sylvines. Four of them are trapped here on Earth, three are wandering around this landscape looking for help. If you help us, I'll forget this incident,"

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
