Personally, they didn't care one way or another whether the other gems lingered or not. Of course, they probably all had something more important they could do, at least until the arena had cleared out. It was, of course, designed to be big enough for many gems of varying sizes to practice and train at once, but these days that rarely happened. Most gems preferred to have the pit to themselves for one reason or another. And since the Luna base had become a Nexus for gems with different diamonds deployed Planetside, it had become clear that most gems didn't enjoy fraternizing with others that didn't serve the same Diamond.
"I'm glad to hear that," they said with that same cool, respectful tone, fingers threading behind their back. "You did very well. As I expected." They said that, of course, with no hint of that visceral fury from minutes ago, their tone seemingly odd with that in mind.
She still felt ragged, having gone beyond what she had set as her limit. As far as her combat prowess went, she knew that one session of training could never polish her enough to be on equal standing in the field with a real soldier, but she did feel that she had grown in some modest way. Perhaps she would have to come to the arena more often. However, that had never really been her initial purpose in this endeavor.
"Thank you," She answered,"Your style of education is...immersive," Not moments ago she'd felt like she was in the crosshairs of too-real feeling peril. Now, it was as if it had never even transpired-- or at least it may seem that way by glancing at this quartz. It was suspicious to her that they could simply fall back into docility from such wrath, something she'd never be able to pull off herself. They had seemed so outraged with her before, she wondered if 7XB was harboring some resentment of her tactics. Still, she needed to step lightly. "I apologize if I may have, ah, caused you some discomfort earlier,"
This was a skill 7XB had honed over several millienia: the ability to reign themselves in, to subdue themselves at the drop of a hat. Despite their years of practice, it was still largely continent upon luck. Their had been many times in their history, some far more recent than 7XB would wish to admit, when they has been unable to quell their rage, and such a situation often escalated far past what they had intended. But what else could one except from blacked out fury?
"I'm glad to hear that, I-" they pause then, a heavy brow lifting in relative confusion are what seemed to be an apology of sorts from the Sapphire. "'Discomfort'? I'm afraid I don't understand, Your Clarity. I assure you it was nothing less than a pleasure to have you join us."
Right, of course, the sapphire thought with a tinge of exasperation. Her position in society was sometimes the bane of her mission, personal or otherwise. It didn't seem to give her an advantage anywhere but in the courtroom. Now she had to decide whether the quartz was being genuine-- by all accounts it seemed to be the truth coming from their mouth. Still, she found it so doubtful that the animosity she'd sensed before had simply evaporated. If only she could find a way to tip-toe around the wall, but these two gems were merely acquainted. It would be uncouth, and perhaps shocking, for her to try and interrogate 7XB on the spot about their shifting aspect, no matter how much she wanted to. There had to be a way to lure out more information, without letting her irritation get the better of her.
"Hmm..." She gave a smirk, but her eyes still betrayed some of her officiousness,"Well, that's a relief. It's not everyday that a court affiliate gets to impose herself upon such excitement. I imagine this has been a...different experience for yourself?"
If they had any inking of the frustration they were causing Padparadscha, the Quartz didn't show it. Their lips pulled into a coy sort of smile, the kind worn by some one or the verge of chuckling. "Well," they admitted with a certain coyness, almost shy in it' own, modest way, "It certainly was a much different type of combat training then I am used to. But, well," they hesitated for a moment, " I found it quite educational." Never had they even imagined they would give a combat demonstration to a sapphire, or any manner of aristocratic gem for that matter, much less tutor them in combat.
Still, they counted themselves lucky to have been able to regain control of themselves before things had gotten too far out of hand. "But I dare say you are quite the quick learner." Was that their doing, though, or did she simply need that little push? Proud as there were, it was in the Quartz's nature to believe in the usefulness of their own tutaledge.
She stretched her arms, still aching from the training, but there was a fresh relief to seeing some emotion on 7XB's face. Aha! She'd have to take a hold on this thread before it slipped through her grasp. As the quartz continued to speak, she found herself surprised at their words. "I found it quite educational." It was a wonder to think that she could have anything to teach the soldier in this realm, this only made her curiosity grow. Perhaps it was just a courtesy?
"I try, at the very least," She chuckled, re-energized from the more sustained conversation,"If I could be a decent student for you to work with, that is another thing all together. You've inspired me, commander 7XB. Perhaps I should be working on my self-defense techniques more often."
Her eyes flickered around the room, past the rubies, and the other gems who were moving into their routines. She became aware of the passing time, and feared her moments to take in more data were passing as well. She looked back up to 7XB with an earnest smile, and motioned to them as if to say, walk with me. "You're exceptional at what you do, though you don't need me to tell you that,"
Though it took a solid moment of pause, 7XB gathered the meaning of her motion, glancing towards the Rubies with a dismissive nod before trailing alongside the Sapphire- the meaning of that was well-known amongst their troops: the drill was over, and they were to begin training exercises amongst themselves. "Thank you, Your Clarity." They continued in response, "I do hope we didn't tire you out too much? I am sure you have a great many important things to do." That was the way of things, was it not? Sapphires and Peridots and Aquamarine's went about their important business, and Agates and Quartz protected them.
They didn't mind it, of course, that was just the way of things. Would they have received praises, and a commendation from Yellow Diamond bif they hadn't been so well suited to their role? Likely not, and the absence of such a proud moment from their life would be..terrible.
Knowing very well that her schedule was about to begin moving at the speed of light, Padparadscha continued with a hastened step as she made her way through the wide open doors of the arena with the quartz in tow. She nodded as 7XB spoke. "It was exhilarating, but I always have the energy for my work. We must, to serve," there were many cases, and only so much time. It was regretful that she couldn't have more of it to sit and discuss this with 7XB now, but perhaps that could come at a later date. "Commander, if I could be frank, and if I may, put you upon another imposition-- The immaculate Diamonds are of course your ultimate patrons, but are you at the direct charge of another benefactor?"
Clear Quartz were an uncommon gem in their own right. Anyone with status and a job to do would jump at the chance to covet the skill of this particular gem, with their noteworthy cultivation of prowess, their driven and disciplined personality. It was highly likely that they were already assigned to a full-time retinue, but all the same, if 7XB were at the behest of Yellow Diamond, it could be that they were in control of their schedule to some degree.
'Uncommon', that was a surprisingly fitting description if there ever was one, it had been a good many standard years since 7XB had seen another Clear Quartz soldier, and certainly not one of their cut.
"I understand, Your Clarity," they said crisply, easily keep steady pace alongside the Sapphire, "we do what we must in service of our Diamonds." They were proud to service, to do what was needed to see their vision to fruition.
"Yellow Diamond, yes," they said with a sort of pride at the mention of 'patrons'. The next question, oddly enough, gave them a moment of pause. What exactly was she asking them? "Benefactor? Uhm, well no, your Clarity. I am, of course, at the gracious Pink Diamond's service until I am otherwise recalled." As of right now, they received little in the way of oversight, left largely to their own devices; Of course, this was not to say they would not partake in missions other than their prime objective as given.
As she had hoped, there was a chance. Without a manager to go through, she wouldn't have to step on another aristocrat's toes to ask what she needed of 7XB. The sapphire's smile gleamed at the quartz's words, perceiving the swell of pride in them as they spoke, "Then I can continue to be frank with you. Much of my detective work can be carried out surreptitiously...but--" Sour memories were coming back to her, of all the times she'd wished she'd not been so stubborn as to forego protection. There were times where she could have been shattered, but she wasn't about to admit such faults in her past decisions. Even through her stubbornness, she knew that her upcoming trials wouldn't be easy to navigate, even with an entourage.
"--Well, Earth, as it stands, is an untamed haven. My self-defense can only bring me so far. Since my own dispatch, I've been on the search for a reliable retinue," She glanced up to 7XB, ready to gauge their reaction to her next words. "I'm looking for exemplary gems, much like yourself,"
"Ahh.." 7XB had coyly, pulling a thin sort of smile as they began to quickly piece together what exactly Padparadscha was trying to ask of them, "you'd like me to provide security? For your missions to Earth?" It wasn't an out of the way request, of course- Earth was a rebelling colony, and an especially dangerous one at that, full of defected, traitorous gems. They had done it before, when time allowed. "As I said, am at the service of your Diamond. My rubies and I would be happy to assist you. Whenever I can be found on base, that is." They were quite often busy, but they had often served the manager of the Moon base in similar pursuits.
"What type of work, if I may ask?" The Quartz didn't seek to step out of line, but it was hard enough to predict anything on Earth when you knew exactly what you were trying to do, setting out on a blind mission was only asking for more trouble.
As the two gems approached the end of the hall, drawing nearer to the court offices, the sapphire had unconsciously picked up her step. She nodded, knowing that she had greatly imposed herself on a gem she now knew to be a crucial part of the force stationed on Headquarters. "Of course, I wouldn't want to pull you away from your duties," At the quartz's next question, she pursed her lips. She didn't think anything could scare them away, but she had almost hesitated to take the quest on herself when it had been granted to her.
Padparadscha kept her voice low as she continued,"I'll be honest, I don't have much time to discuss the particulars of my dossier now-- but a reconnaissance and recovery mission, well into enemy boundaries. There was a tragic incident that left a carrier ship stranded, the Diamonds have entrusted me with the repossession of important artifacts aboard-- and, to perhaps, find the cause of the event. You may have caught wind of it, it was a rather unexpected accident."
As she spoke, she slowed down, and came upon the familiar entrance of her station. She paused, and turned to look up at 7XB with solemn eyes,"You're under no obligation to accept. But, perhaps the next time we meet--" She gestured toward her office doors, with a smirk,"-- will be a tad more subdued than our previous encounter. I would be able to go over my archives with you and your squad then,"
Through the thickening intensity of their dialogue, 7XB lost track of just how quickly they passed through the moon base, even and especially through areas of the station that the Quartz hardly ever ventured through, for one reason or another.
"I understand completely, your Clarity. I do not expect you to explain it to me here and now." The brief explanation, though, did coax forth a grain of memory: they had had something about it, whispers perhaps, nothing they could put their fingers on. It was only when she motioned towards her appointed station that they realized how far the two of them had travelled. After a slow blink fueled by little more than surprise, they offered their own smile then, heels coming together as those massive arms crossed behind their back. "I shall certainly look forward to that, Your Clarity. Now, if you'll forgive me, I must locate my rubies before they get into too much trouble." After a moment, just long enough for her to acknowledge their parting, the quartz turned, retracing their steps with much longer strides then before. For now, they were parting ways.
