Iolite growled a little under her breath. It seems that the sapphire would be a little harder to elude. Oh, it's no problem Thulite, It's just that it might be a load to carry all of your stuff over as the warp pad near here is down, but Empire City ain't too far away. She chuckled nervously and scratched the back of her head. Iolite was attempting to seem cooled and laidback, as too hopeful throw off any suspicion that other plans were going on underneath.
Iolite grumbled as Howlite spoke of the "wondrous" job opportunity, she hoped Thulite would have seen enough of this Gem to avoid an offer like that, Gems like him are company best avoided. She looked bewildered as he seemed to talk to himself, heavily distracted by something, becoming more concerned by the second, especially when he seemed to look towards her for a moment. This Gem has some serious problems, closing in on the line of a certified mad man.
So, Iolite brought her hands together in a clap, but it turned out a little stronger than expected. While no shockwave was released, everyone could feel a powerful thump in their chest as Iolite collided her powerful hands. Thulite, would you mind leading the way?
She may have seemed a little rushed, Iolite hoped that maybe if they left quickly, Howlite might just be content with... whatever he was doing. Padparadscha might be a problem, but Iolite was sure there would be a way to shake her off. After all, Iolite needed Thulite to be alone to get what she wanted.
Faction: Is not under command of Homeworld, but Is hunting down rebels to gain the Diamond's goodwill
She nodded as she listened to Thulite, then heard another voice from behind. Padpara peered toward Howlite as he seemed to be speaking to himself. Before, this had shocked and horrified her, and even now she was unsettled by the gem's split mind. However, the burden of being in the total dark was no longer hers. 9XR had told her himself why he spoke to the air around him as if there were other gems present, and she had to assume that was the truth-- he was insane. Still, it was painfully frustrating that her powers didn't allow her more insight into what exactly this Howlite was contemplating between himself and his voices.
Despite the prickling on her neck, Padparadscha turned away from 9XR to face Iolite and Thulite. She checked her screen, and saw that she was running low on time to make it back to headquarters. It's a bit of a hike on foot...how long of a hike? The sapphire thought for a moment that she could invite these gems as passengers onto her ship, and simply fly there to save on time. After all, she would need much more of that if she intended to unravel this mystery. On further thought, she didn't know if she could trust these gems. She knew she couldn't trust Howlite, and Iolite was still something of an anomaly-- though the warrior had protected her, it still wasn't clear what her objective really was. Thulite...a complete mystery. Perhaps it would be better to keep all of them farther away from her homeworld technology, especially since she had come alone.
"Y-yes, Thulite, please lead the way," She smiled, masking her inner dilemma.
This is why we can't have nice things. Thulite made a face at the thought of actually having to trek back the entire way to her cave. It probably had been foolish to think that Padparadscha would offer them a ride in her vessel. Most likely a wise decision, she told herself, feeling a little pride swell up inside her, the last gem you want on your ship is a technician with questionable ethics and millennia's worth of experience. She brought up her translucent violet screen and summoned a map of her surroundings with a few swipes of her finger, an ultra-high resolution image taken from the moon base. She quickly calculated the fastest route to her impromptu living quarters, then turned around. "Looks like we're in for a walk of about five earth hours, give or take a few minutes." She couldn't quite fight off the smile that threatened to get a hold of her face at the thought of Iolite and Padparadscha getting as disheveled as she had to look right now. "Let's head off now", she added with a nod in Howlite's direction. He seemed to be talking to himself, a very silly sight, and Thulite would probably have laughed if the present company hadn't taken his antics so seriously. Something was very, very wrong with the assassin, and as much as Thulite would love to have a look at his gem to maybe understand where his madness stemmed from, she valued her life more than the satisfaction of her scientific curiosity. With a last, meaningful glance towards Iolite - you better think of something quick, or the deal is off - she turned around on her heels, followed the route displayed on a screen, and tripped over a piece of debris. This is why we can't have nice things.
Iolite looked perplexed at Howlite as he finished his talk. So that's what you were talking about huh? She turned away from him with a smirk. Tell the voices I said hi. Now that she wasn't facing him, she could show her frustrations. Iolite hated how he referred to them like defenseless children. She was no Peridot, whether she would win in a fight against this perfect assassin or not, at least Iolite knew that she'd give him a good fight before she'd give him that kind of satisfaction.
Iolite clenched her fist a little before following Thulite into the forest. She needed this deal to work, at whatever cost. Howlite shouldn't be a worry. Iolite couldn't imagine him fighting to take Thulite as an employee, he'd probably just offer it to the next gem he meets, but Padparadscha might be more of a problem. Iolite didn't want to have to resort to combat, being in the good books of a gem of that position is very helpful, besides, who else is going to get Iolite off of this mudball after she puts her plan into action?
She took a quick glance at Padparadscha, she was a very pretty gem. Iolite imagined that she could have been a pearl if wasn't for her somewhat bothersome abilities. A gem like that should have an entourage of other gems to do the filthy jobs for her. Why wouldn't a gem of her look and status have other gems to do the dirty work for her? Oh, Iolite thought to herself. That's an idea.
Five hours?! The sapphire thought, trying to keep her expression composed despite how floored she was at the thought of walking for five hours. It would be a 10 hour round trip, something she definitely couldn't swing. Though she'd finished her last assignment early, she had less than that to get back, and to get started on her next assignment. She considered calling in to the board and telling them she'd run into trouble, or explaining the situation at large. It was entirely possible that this Thulite was stalling, or perhaps it really would be an odyssey to get there. Perhaps my methods should be more...direct...she contemplated as she followed the other gems tentatively. Nonetheless, she was going to have to get as much information as she could, before she was too far into this organic-invested landscape.
Howlite's declaration that he would spare their lives grated at her. Such impudence, she seethed, but she knew better than to challenge him. The longer she remained on the surface of this planet, surrounded by these questionable gems, the more her patience wore thin-- the more she wanted to throw up her hands and let this all just disappear far below her while she exited the Earth's atmosphere. But she knew it would bother her, especially if she let things go as they were. Perhaps one day she would be able to return, and when that day came, she'd make sure to bring along her retinue. Until then, she had to be satisfied with what answers she could pry from Thulite now.
"We have quite a walk ahead of us," She began as she followed the other gems, with some urgency,"Perhaps we could swap some information until then, Thulite? I know it's hard to think on, but this tragedy needs to be further documented by eye-witness accounts. I'm sure you have some record of the event?"
[I'm so sorry for the late post, but a lightning strike fried my wifi Anyway, welcome back to "How many times can Thulite tell blatant lies to Padparadscha's face (and keep feeling so clever) until our favourite sapphire loses her sh*t?"]
Thulite disliked the notion of the assassin tagging along with them. She had been able to ignore his taunts so far, but the fact that most of them hit far to close to home made her uneasy. Howlite seemed to have no problem reading her like an open book, which had been a source of annoyance at first, but now, combined with Padparadscha's increasingly intense interrogation his behaviour became dangerous. And speaking of Padparadscha, she showed no sign of letting up, and Thulite was running out of options at an alarming speed. Stalling for time was useless, and not even the five hour walk through unknown and bothersome territory had discouraged the sapphire from following her. She must be very young, Thulite thought. Every single upper crust gem she had ever had to do with had destested the mere thought of physical labour, it was something one sent out rubies to take care of. "I don't think I could tell you more than what was already stated in the reports", Thulite lied. "Please forgive me, but I can't help but wonder what would bring a sapphire such as yourself to this gemforsaken location?"
"Oh I'm no stranger to long walks. Let's get moving! Of course... I have a much faster way."
He pulled up his hood and climbed up a tree.
"Try and keep up."
He leaped from tree to tree as he transversed his way through the forest. He knew there was no way Iolite could follow him thanks to her size. Paddy couldn't because she was no parkour runner. Thulite may have been able to if she tried. He zipped his way through and after awhile he stopped in a tree branch. He hung upside down and smiled at them.
"I don't know about you guys but I'm having a blast."
He righted himself back up and returned to running.
Iolite eyed Howlite as he jumped through the trees. As a Gem of her cast, Parkour would be well ingrained in her nature. Iolite would have easily been able to keep up with Howlite if she was made... correctly. Either way, she wasn't going to let Howlite have the last laugh. She pounded the ground with her foot, sending Iolite flying through the air. After sailing over the treetops, she landed heavily on a sturdy looking branch, causing it to shake and rain down leaves on Thulite and Padparadscha.
Iolite stood on the branch, looking down at Howlite with a smirk. The branch began to crack under her weight, eventually breaking with an audible Snap.Rather than do anything, Iolite fell down with the branch, landing on the ground with cat-like accuracy. She could have continued following Howlite through the trees if she kept to the stronger branches, but Iolite wanted to keep at least a little dignity in front of Padparadscha. So instead she began walking again like nothing had happened.
After about 20 minutes, Iolite knew she had to do something to discourage Padparadscha, or else Iolite's plan wouldn't work. She saw a swampier part of the forest a little off trail. She nudged Thulite and pointed to it, gesturing that Thulite should take them a little off course. Because Iolite knew that there's nothing that a posh high ranking gem despises more than mud.
Faction: Is not under command of Homeworld, but Is hunting down rebels to gain the Diamond's goodwill
She gave a small smile, and kept her eyes locked on the gem. Everything was off about Thulite, but the sapphire wouldn't be able to cross reference anything without access to the files in question. A direct approach was necessary to save on time, but an aggressive approach might be needed to gain real information. She knew that the gem was lying quite plainly, and that was a hint that Thulite had not only been gone from Homeworld for a long time, but that she also didn't know about the sapphire experiments.
With the other gems seeming to disappear into the trees, Padparadscha contemplated how she would respond to the technician. It would be more complicated to answer Thulite's question than perhaps the gem realized. The sapphire didn't consider herself a prototype-- yet, her circumstances were akin to that of a prototype's. It was likely that this more ancient model would expect her to say that she was an artist, which she had been once, and it came to light to her how strange it must've seemed to Thulite to see a Padparadscha Sapphireon the surface of the wild Earth-- alone, for that matter. She decided to tell the truth, as was her modus operandi.
"Ah, you see, I'm an investigative affiliate for the impeccable Pink Diamond's court of law. My original assignment today was to do a quick survey of--" Leaves and sticks showered over her as she spoke, she stopped short before Iolite came crashing through the branches onto her feet. The sapphire was a bit stunned, but cleared her throat, and continued, "--ah, well, a gemkind structure near this area that had seemed to have been wiped out of the maps, and yet was detected by infrared satellite. I was not to engage with the structure or leave my ship originally, only to get a scan of its layout. However, on my way back to Headquarters, I happened to spot the crash,"
