Deep within one of the dark, humid and lush jungle that infested the surface of the Earth, vibrating with dangerous aliens and diamonds know what else, laid a long-fallen ship, still majestic in it's decrepit splendor. Unfortunately, though, it was utterly ruined, and the only date that awaited it after the reclamation of the colony was scrap- or so it would seem.
For all 7XB knew, it was just that: a ruined ship, but the soldier would not have been told about it if there were not some reason, yes? So, there the quartz stood, respectfully mulling about the outside of the Sapphire's office, thousands of miles away from the ship that would soon be the focus of their mission.
The Court was adjourned, and the grand doors parted to let the assembly spill out into the halls. With her face down in her records, the small sapphire descended from her bench and waded through the procession of other court affiliates as they moved about the room or discussed the outcome of the trial. Her pearl scurried after her, straight backed as they made their way. She scrolled down, striking off her finished work, and looking ahead to the next assignment on her schedule. Though it didn't surprise her to see it there on the screen, it still gave her a lapse of tension to be reminded of her upcoming dispatch to the Earth's surface.
Padparadscha rounded the corner, still looking down into her dossier as she approached her office. She looked up, and almost jumped when she caught sight of the imposing figure waiting outside of her door. "Commander 7XB! I apologize, the trial ran a bit late! Oh, it was such a--" She was about to go into all of the details of it, then realized that there would be time for chatting some other day. For now, there was business,"Ah, allow me to find you a seat," The pink pearl shuffled up to the door, and opened it. Padparadscha dismissed the pearl with a nod and made her way to her seat at the desk.
7XB stood, head and shoulders, above many of the rather diminutive gems that had departed from the courtroom, slowly meandering their way past the Quartz's temporary station outside of the Sapphire's office. Nodding go each of them respectfully, giving little more than a passing nod of their head, they tried with some success to conceal their mounting discomfort.
This was not a region of the Moon Base that they frequented, the only other time they remember being in this wing, other than passing, being the last time that they had spoken with Padparadscha- they couldn't help but feel terribly out of place. As such, they were clearly relieved to spot her coming down the corridor, brushing part of their wild, white mane from their eyes before they saluted respectfully-"Your Clarity." Following close behind, they lingered before the desk with some anticipation, "You summoned me?" They assumed it was related, in some way, to the mission she mentioned.
Her senses being on high-alert after hours of scrutinizing gems, she caught the slight nervous aura that emanated from 7XB before they followed her into her realm. "Yes, I'm glad to see you commander. Please, feel free," She gave a warm smile, an attempt to make them feel more comfortable, then gestured toward the seats arranged in front of her desk. She flipped through her files again, and pulled up numerous accounts within. Satellite photos, coordinate grids, written data and prior eye-witness explanations. "It's only right that I brief you on this mission, to give you a true idea of what I'm working with, before you can consent to accompanying me. I'm to be preparing for this mission and heading out relatively soon, but there is plenty of time now to go over the details. You may ask any questions,"
Padparadscha checked around the towering gem to make sure her doors were closed and that her pearl wasn't in the room. She hadn't been briefed on all of the particulars of this mission herself, much of it was too sensitive to be disclosed to even a field detective. Though, she trusted that all of the information that would be relevant to her-- and the quartz, should they accept-- had been provided. She then gave a small smile to 7XB, indicating that she would begin as soon as they were ready to bear the brunt of her information
Stepping into the office, separate now from the veritable rip-current of small and likely extremely important gems, the burly quartz could rest easy, as easily seen by the easing of their rigid posture. The sapphire continued to surprise 7XB with their kindness; They had not really expected, or planned, on sitting down in the office- they were much more accustomed to standing when briefed. In truth, they preferred it, but as always they found themselves unable to deny the fair Sapphire's wishes, easing themselves carefully down into the chair, almost worries it may buckle under their substantial weight.
"Yes, I'm quite interested in this mission you've hinted at, Your Clarity." They said cooly, again brushing a cursed lock of hair out of their steely orbs. "I must admit you peaked my curiosity before." They knew, of course, that there were some details Padparadscha would be unable to share with them. Some things were just above a quartz, even one as 'uncommon' as them.
"Ah, good," She answered with a nod, her eagerness to share the information shown in a smirk, "I'll get straight into it, then." With numerous holo-files in an organized stack next to her, she flicked her wrist and brought the first image to a full view across her desk. It was a standard model photo, featuring a large in-tact vessel. "This is the model we're dealing with. Typical colonization era cargo ship," She pushed the image aside, though kept it up for analyzation.
Then, she reached for a spread sheet filled with inventory stock numbers, projecting it clearly for 7XB to see, "Most of what it carried included building supplies, but this particular cargo was on-route to what would eventually become a fortification facility, nearby the kindergarten that had been planned for the continent," she scrolled down on the inventory sheet, and pointed to a particular set of numbers, labeled innocently as building supplies. Then, she glanced up to double check the doors,"Most of these supplies were meant for the building of the fort itself. However, this particular ship was also carrying something covertly-- the pieces that would construct an advanced weapon prototype, which was to be fully tested once it was put together inside of the fort. As we know, it never made it to the site,"
She paused, peering at 7XB before reaching for her next files. She kept the inventory spread sheet out, and scrolled down further before pointing at another string of numbers,"This was also an object being carried aboard the vessel. It is of particular importance to my Diamond,"
The image that was soon conjured up on the screen found a feeling of quaint nostalgia welling up suddenly within 7XB. They knew this class of ship better than many newer gems, having travelled upon them and their variants for uncounted years until they were eventually phased out in favor of newer models many years ago. The thought of it made 7XB feel quite old, but they couldn't help the rather bemused look that settled into their features for a moment.
Then it was cast aside just as easily, replaced by what the Quartz recognized as an inventory list due to having seen them before, but it was little more to them than a infinity, senseless string of numbers, incomprehensible to them. "A weapon?" That was almost.. surprising, the cleverness of the ruse, despite it's evident failure. "Are we to destroy it them, the project?"
The next series of numbers, though, they could easily guess the goal, their face turning serious. Whatever this was, the Quartz would bet Pink Diamond wanted it.
The sapphire nodded,"It hasn't been assembled, neither have the blueprints. All were strategically scattered throughout the vessel. Using this inventory list, we should be able to find-- and destroy-- every piece. The prototype itself is already considered outdated, but would still present a danger if it ended up in the hands of the wrong gem. However, this object is to be recovered and brought back to Headquarters,"
Padparadscha cleared her throat, and in the same moment, cleared her desk of the files she was no longer using. Now, she pulled up the written accounts and an on site image. The wide-shot image depicted a blurry, fiery scene of carnage. White smoke billowed around what appeared to be the ravaged hull of the ship, collapsed into the Earth like a crumpled sheet of metal. "This was communicated back to HQ shortly after the vessel went down, along with an oral record from a distraught technician. Aside from the gem's...well, incoherent account, we have no evidence as to how this catastrophe occurred-- which leads me into the next factor of this mission, which is to try and determine the how. Curiously enough, the ship had gone down before...before the rebellion had much of any traction. It leads the board to believe that it had to have been brought down something else,"
For a moment, she paused again. Quartz soldiers tended to be adverse to masses of information-- she could recall times when she'd tried to brief an entourage only to be met with frustration, having to repeat herself several times to get a point across. However, 7XB seemed to be enduring it well.
"The technician in question never sent another account, but HQ was able to confirm the last known coordinates of her communicator,"
Not once, but twice their prediction had been proven correct, though they soon found themselves distracted by the mounting seriousness of this briefing. Whatever this weapon had been originally convinced as, ill fortune and, perhaps, a more sinister force had rendered it all but useless to Homeworld. It could, however, prove to be a rather promising asset to the burgeoning rebellion, one that they could not be allowed to get their hands on. Though truthfully, 7XB doubted they possessed the gem-power, or at very least the organization, to build it.
But it was always prudent to make sure.
Despite the nature of the mission they were still surprised that the components has survived the crash, especially when faced with the smoldering wreckage upon the screen. "How many lunar cycles ago was this?" Already they could feel the dread welling up within their gut- something told them rescuing this lost technician wasn't part of the mission. Something didn't seem right about this, a fact that gnawed at the Quartz already. The ship looked like it might have been shot down. Or.. sabotaged?
The sapphire glanced up from her file to nod in acknowledgement of the question, then rubbed her chin as she flipped through the records at the end of the account, "Headquarters received this transmission approximately 2.6 cycles ago, though it's not certain whether the transmission was sent the same date as the crash-- considering that the vessel was on-route around 3.3 cycles ago,"
She squinted at the files, looking closely at the alignment of dates and numbers. "It's interesting that we received the transmission after the hub was compromised, though the board has doubted that the events are connected. There have been attempts to search for more information, but with current events..." She seemed to be musing aloud, speaking in no particular direction, "Not to mention the warps, it's been dangerous to attempt to return to the site. the fact that the times appear to be disparate also heavily suggests that the coordinates are as well. Of course, the case can't just be left cold forever,"
Padparadscha was in her own world for a moment, scrolling up and down through the oral account. No matter how many times she had gone through the file before, this account seemed wrought with troublesome data. The ramblings of the technician didn't shed much light into anything, other than the fact that there had been at least one witness of the event.
3.2 cycles ago? 7XB found that exceedingly odd, mulling the information over internally as further information came forth from the gem perched across from them. From what they had been told, the rebellion had gained traction, at most, a handful of years ago. But if that was the case, what's been happening on the Earth all this time before then?
As if 7XB wasn't already distrustful of this planet enough.
Irregardless, they would consent to the Sapphire's request, it was their duty as a quartz to do so, whether they liked it or not. But if they had learned one thing in all their millennia, it was to trust their instincts.
"Right. How do we begin?" Even now they were on edge, impassive as ever, pondering the feasibility of their Rubies on this mission.
With the files in front of her, being deep in rumination, the quartz's words jolted Padpara from her head-space and she looked away from the screen, reminded of still being in the midst of giving a briefing. Her eyes lit up at the implications of 7XB's word choice-- they hadn't been deterred from the prospect yet!
"Ah, well," She slid away the cryptic account, glad to put it out of her view. Then, she reached for another file in her dwindling stack, a grid of the Earths surface. She panned over to the South-Western sector and zoomed. The topographical map featured a red dot, surrounded by a small radius, then a larger radius, appearing akin to a target. Inside of the larger radius was a smaller green dot. Her lithe hand moved to gesture toward the image."The red point here is where the fortification facility had been originally planned. This green point is where we received the transmission from. The board believes that the crash site exists within these radii. I believe the best course of action would be to use my ship to get in close to the coordinates of the transmission-- as close as possible away, as this is a deeply forested area-- and go from there," She looked back up to 7XB,"What do you think?"
7XB was not an easy gem to deter, despite their reservations as to the mystery behind the crash. If anything, it made them even more determined to join Padpara on her mission- they would be able to potentially kill two birds with one stone. Keep the valued sapphire safe from whatever threats they would surely come across in the dark, humid reaches of the earth and, hopefully, shed some light upon the cause of the crash.
And it wouldn't hurt to deny the rebellion the tiniest advantage. Pure catharsis.
"Forested. How heavily forested exactly?.." though they already knew the answer to that question, having drifted listlessly over that very same region during their first deployment into Empire City, 7XB couldn't help it. They hated trees, the most obstructive and useless of all organic life, popping up like a disease and turning what should have been a few hours walk into a two day trek.
"We'd be honored to assist you, your Clarity. In whatever way we can."
She moved to change the map-mode from topography to density, to give 7XB a visual feel for how crowded the landscape here was. A gradient from light to dark showed the scatter of forested land-- the area they were headed to was shrouded in opaque blackness. She pulled up another map, a satellite image that featured dark green spires and thick white fog that sprawled across the entire map for hundreds of kilometers,"Our satellites have been ineffective at locating the site for several reasons-- The area is highly mountainous, until it drains into the river basin. There is also very thick cloud cover as you can see, and the vegetation is nearly impenetrable. The area is prone to extreme weather changes, flash floods and mudslides. This will be a tough landscape to navigate, I'm afraid,"
Padpara waited in a quiet moment, her body tense. She knew full well that she was putting 7XB in a difficult position. However, the quartz had seemed to show a genuine interest in the assignment. Relief washed over her when they answered, her shoulders relaxed. While she had been shrewd enough to know that there was a possibility that 7XB would have to decline, they and their troop of rubies were her first choice for her accompaniment on this high-risk endeavor. Danger could come from anywhere, and going in alone or with incompetent charges would lead to catastrophe. "It'd be an honor-- and a relief-- to have you aboard," She said, giving a nod.
A grim shadow fell across their face. More and more 7XB began to understand why the smaller gem had been so keen on enlisting their aid, specifically. This mission was going to be dangerous, even by the standards of what the Quartz was used to, so there was no way the Sapphire, skilled as she was in fields civil and diplomatic, could be expected to complete such a dangerous operation without a proper retinue.
The relief on Padparadscha's was priceless, and the quartz was rather well chuffed by it. "Of course, Your Clarity." They said, rising with a kind note to cross their arms in a proper salute, "when do we begin? I'll need a brief period to ensure my rubies and I are sufficiently prepared."
They just hoped they wouldn't regret this as much as they thought.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
