Red Beryl stared despondently out at the city landscape laid out before her, towering high-rises and carefully crafted skyscrapers filled the view.
She wasn't impressed by the pathetic attempts of humans to make something that would rival the atmosphere height spires on gem controlled worlds; if anything the similarities actually made sure that the structures paled into insignificance. The colors were obnoxious as well, grating in any onlookers eyes, on Homeworld buildings were carefully color coordinated to make sure that the proper things drew attention and everything else could only be found only if you were actively looking for them. Here, apparently, the most important thing was... girls? Humans continued to baffle her.
The only reason that she was even here was because of a tip, given to her by a Sapphire in Pink Diamond's court. She had gained useful information from the 'Benitoite' (she hated not knowing gems designations, but it had insisted) but it was incomplete, to make any headway in her research she would need samples from Crystal Gems in at the very least every color; while she could kidnap multiple blues it wouldn't make much of a difference due to their incredibly similar gemetic structures. So when the Sapphire had insisted that Empire City was simply crawling with rebel gems she had been sure to make her way there as soon as she could. She'd ditched her two Petalite guards; leaving them to stand inside her office on the Moon Base, she had no problem with them, but they were going into Crystal Gem infested water and the less attention they drew the better.
For this purpose exactly she had landed far off in the suburbs outside of the city and traveled inwards by foot. She was once again glad that White Diamond had given her such an inconspicuous vessel, much like the Petalite guards its natural coloring and ocular camouflage made it nigh invisible if the gem didn't know what they were looking for. So now all that she needed to do was find a correctly colored gem, poof them and return to her ship for research.
This, of course, was much harder than originally anticipated, the reason so many gems gathered here was because of the crowds and large numbers of other rebels. So as Red walked down the busy main street she quickly grew tired of the pressing throng and quickly jumped over a wire fence and skidded down a slope into the large storm system that the city needed to keep rain out of the gutters.
