Red's expression melted away, leaving a blank stare. It seemed like she had chosen well, this gem didn't seem to be acting like most other court sapphires would. The needling act was a necessary one; one that got results, though it wasn't about intimidation...
It was about making them angry.
Angry gems act out, say things that they never would've let you know about under any other situation. Court gems were proud things... testy, showing them anything but the most demure attitude could get them up in arms. Instead of seeing their positions as an honor because they were created to better serve The Diamonds, they believed it an excuse to muddle things with pomp to their own benefit. This one seemed... different, she was at least trying to help out, Red could at least return the favor.
She also modified her tone, switching away from emotional to bland "Fine, I'll be blunt. There are multiple options for what might be wrong with the court, however, I wish to investigate one in particular. Pink Diamond is the youngest of the four, by the time she was created the other three had already split up this empire and all the roles within it" she paced around to stand close in front of Padparadscha staring down into her eyes "Besides a few gems that Pink Diamond has specially created, she gets the 'bad apples''; those who have been reassigned for various reasons. I think that this is why so many join the rebellion, so I'm bringing one in and despite the fact that I know her official record I want to know if she's answering the personal questions truthfully" there was a small beep from her console, letting her know that Petalite was on her way with the Marialite.
Her plain expression was difficult to interpret, but it seemed to indicate that Padparadscha had managed to get over a hurdle in this discussion. As the beryl relented, the sapphire leaned forward slightly and listened close. Though she didn't exactly take kindly to the words used to describe her fellow members of Pink Diamond's court, she couldn't tell herself that there wasn't some truth to it. Pink Diamond was benevolent, and Padpara liked to think she was infallible. But, defective gems often didn't deserve the mercy allowed to them. This investigator was being forthright with her now, from what she could tell, and she gave a terse nod.
"I see," She sat in contemplation for a moment, and glanced back up to meet Red's unsettling gaze. "My talents are suited to your request, certainly. We shall see about this gem's integrity," The suspect in question was a gem unknown to her, but she wanted to believe in their ability to hold up against scrutiny. Of course, the benefit of the doubt was something she had to give sparingly on the job. Her natural openness came to her advantage often times, but it could cloud her judgement if she allowed it.
At the beep, Padparadscha took that as her cue and slipped down from the chair. She straightened her skirt, and clasped her hands together, then faced the door to await the sight of the other gem who'd been summoned.
Glowing her brownish gem upon her wrist she would summon her gem tech gauntlet as she wanted to get this moment on record however she didn't want this black liquid figure watching her, if it even had eyes that is, she would then summon two visual screens. The light brown transparent screens floated with her as she started to draw a sketch of the figure as it walked, her eyes peered at it's structure, it appeared more of a brute like a Quartz in which then she started to sweat as she had a terrible fear of Quartzes especially with there average in height of 7ft.
Marialite shook her head reverting back Into reality as she got side tracked with her thoughts, as she pressed the other screen's play button the recording started," Marialite 00A1 Cut T5D, Log Update, I am currently heading in a pathway in which I was requested to attend to ..ss-some place... I.. hope this isnt some joke.. like where I used to be at... gems made fun of me.. even other Marialites.. Maybe.. here would be different however that proves it with such a creature I'm following.." She said.
As they kept on going Marialite was finishing her recording," I don't think yellow diamond would accept invisible creatures roaming there facilities in search for gems though, maybe Pink Diamond just uses this as a way to effectively watch over gems who misbehave I'm not sure exactly however ..I..I hope for m..my safety.." Maria pressed the pause button sending the recording into her personal files where no gem gets access to aside from the diamonds.
Suddenly they made it to a door in which then the black figure paused not moving a muscle, Marialite looked at it and the door shaking a bit as she was still in fear of what was going on at the moment. She unsummoned her visual screens along with her gauntlet holding her arms she would tilt her head slightly down as she was nervous meeting gems.
Red gave a fond smile as the Padparadscha stood up, this meeting was going even better than she had thought it would. There was now a willing and intelligent second prong to this investigation, not to mention the fact that the sapphire was a ranking gem inside of Pink Diamonds court, her help could be invaluable. Moving back over to the desk as the other gem stood up and moved over, looking down at the reports and files that had been pulled up regarding a one Marialite 00A1 Cut T5D; the old debriefs by her co-workers before she was moved marked her as a loner who was intensely interested in mechanical items beyond her purview...
Now she just needed to know if those indiscretions ran any deeper.
Red pulled out a hard light pen with which she would keep track of Padparadscha's answers. Then with a swipe of her fingers, the huge internal bolts on the door slammed open and Petalite 1 stepped aside and opened the portal....... to a strange scene, Petalite 2 was the most obvious figure considering she was completely covered in a sheen of black oil. Behind her was a Marialite, small and squirrelly in stature she looked absolutely terrified to be there; good.
The mask disappeared again as a teeth-baring smile appeared on Red's face, with a nod towards Petalite 2 she stepped through the door and took up residence on the opposite side from Petalite 1, leaving the barren chair right in front of their guest. With Red and Padparadscha Sapphire on the far side of it.
Immediately, she could tell that the marialite was afraid. The sapphire had been put off herself; to be chaperoned by a white-court escort so suddenly was certainly a good way to put a gem on edge. But, putting gems on edge wasn't her own opening line, more often than not. Provocation was something she reserved for when questioning became more hard-line. From where she stood next to Red, the sapphire's genial smile was disparate from the other gem's expression. Perhaps the two of them would attack the technician's guard from two different angles.
"Welcome! Please, have a seat," She beamed, as if she were talking to an old friend. She gestured toward the only arrangement, as if it weren't already obvious that this was the spot intended for the marialite. It was a habit of hers, and a hard one to beat, but she hoped it would add to a false sense of security for the unsuspecting gem. With that, she went straight into her own first question, knowing that Red would have her own to follow. "Would you care to give an introduction for yourself?" This would also serve her purpose in lulling the gem, but on top of that, would give her a baseline for what kind of cues she would search for in this gem's expression. Though every gem was more or less the same in this regard, some were harder to read than others. It seemed that Marialite might be transparent, from how easily she projected her fear, but one couldn't be too careful.
Marialite entered the room cautiously while rapid drenched sweat emerged on her face, she started to shake a bit in fear of why exactly gems would be requested to even come to this place, there was a gem beside the entrance's interior however logically with its brute like appearance it must've been a guard for one of the two gems in her frontal view.
With every step she took she could feel a thump from her body, however nonetheless she was here for a reason so she had to vanquish these fears for just a moment to hear this gem out, the red one seemed like the gem who generally resides in this office so she must've been the one who requested her. After Marialite took her seat she felt at ease by the Sapphire's words, she was more nicer than most Sapphire's she would meet after fixing there ships that is," I am Marialite Faccet 00A1 Cut T5D..., certified technician under matineace of the moonbase's hangar....." she explained while holding up the diamond salute.
Maria still didn't feel right, if gems were being request to come to this gem in this fashion just like she was it seemed rather rude to do, why couldn't just a simple gem approach her to tell her about this or even send her a report, maybe there was a deeper situation here.
As the Marialite spoke Red made sure to keep an accurate account of what she said, the blank form in front of her slowly being filled out with pertinent information. Finishing the introduction she thought it would be best to dive into the actual questions. It would start off simply, questions that they very clearly had the answers to; give Padparadscha a baseline to go off of along with making sure the gem wasn't some kind of... habitual liar.
Though Red doubted the Marialite would have survived this long if she were.
Letting out a puff of superheated air she glanced up from the holo-desks display and spoke calmly "Marialite Facet-00A1 Cut-T5D; this will be simple and easy. The goal of these questions is for you to answer them truthfully, they are not used to determine anything else. Is that understood" she gave a brief pause for an answer to be given, though it was more of a rhetorical question; there wasn't much room for anything more than an acknowledgment. So she didn't even register what the other said before continuing "First, are you aware of why Diamond Command issued your transfer orders?" Red brought up a secondary screen as she listened to the answer.
It was a simple, yet tricky question; most gems would default to excuses, something to make sure that no one looked unkindly on their record. Obviously, such answers would set off alarm bells with the Sapphire who was looking into the truth. Though it was also of no real consequence if the Marialite didn't know the answer.
The sapphire stood poised with a light smile on her lips as she listened to Marialite make her introduction. From what she could tell, it seemed that her tactical charm was working for the time being, though she knew that this gem would be under much more pressure soon enough. There seemed to be a mix of emotions turning under Marialite's expression, though without any truths or untruths spoken, outside of what was given, she couldn't make an exact determination. Part of her mind wandered on how proficient this gem was at her job; she'd been looking for someone to give her ship a tune-up. However, she didn't stray from the job at hand, and she kept her gaze settled on the small gem perched in the hot-seat.
Red went on to make an establishment inquiry. Padparadsca's eyes flickered across the technician, ready to ascertain the validity of her answers. Though the sapphire herself had no immediate access to the files that would back up or deny the easy questions, nor was she given time to prepare for this abrupt interrogation, she didn't think that part was necessarily within her jurisdiction in this situation. It didn't much matter to her; either way, she was confident she would be able to tell whether it was true or not without any prior knowledge about this gem.
Marialite contemplated of why exactly did she had to complete some sort of questionnaire by a gem who could be presumed to be under white diamond's court, she thought that only elites were assigned to things as such, she had her way around construction but she wouldn't call herself a prodigy as she just loved what she did, she always embraced her significant purpose having such a creative mind for building in general.
Another thing that puzzled her is why exactly was a sapphire beside the logically superior gem while they were doing these potentially difficult questions, was she there to predict if she'd say something wrong or right? Or maybe was she a liar detector? Many questions spiralled in her long constructed head as to what's really going on and to all honesty she didn't have the guts to blurt out how she felt so he just proceeded with the first question.
This one wasn't tricky at all aside from that the matter being simply out of the blue," Well, first off I was originally Yellow Diamond's gem yet my superior just came to me and told me I was reassigned to Pink Diamond being stationed at her MoonBase. I don't know why I was sent here in the first place but I make the most of it...it's better here actually.." she'd say narrowing her eyes for a moment in thought of how her past experiences came about.
Red just nodded along with Marialite's words, she could've pointed out that there was no need for the last parts of that statement, where the other gem tried to cast herself as being happy in her new assignment. But she thought better of it, the more she was willing to say meant that there was more that the Padparadscha could check for truth-telling, while not directly related to her question it was useful and thus not something Red wanted to dispose of. The only hint of why the pink sapphire was there, happened from the corner of Red Beryl's unnerving eyes, whose peripheral vision stayed concretely focused on the sapphire; looking to see if she could tell whether the Marialite was telling the truth about not knowing about her rather abrupt departure reason.
A small smile grew on Red's face "Ah, it's good to hear that you're enjoying yourself here" however, in reality, that wasn't why she was happy. Instead, it was because the gem had wandered straight into the second question, based on her experience in her last post; especially relating to the rather less than nice reports that had been filed about the Marialite, though considering the workplace environment Red didn't necessarily put much stock in them. She just wanted to see if they would tell the truth even if it possibly meant making themselves look unliked "Speaking of liking it better, if I were to look at your record, specifically that made by your co-workers. What do you think I'd find?" and while her tone was light and conversational, statistics and reports of what she was talking about were sitting right in front of her.
(Whoops! lol sorry for the absence guys! Anyway I'm going to assume what Mari says is true unless it's indicated otherwise)
The sapphire listened, her eyes flickering across the features of Marialite as she spoke. Every subtle twitch of her facial expression, or pitch change in her voice, was more data toward the cause. The small technician seemed to recede more and more into her mind as she listened to the beryl's questions, and no doubt contemplated her answers to them. Padparadscha herself contemplated what those answers might be, but most of her focus was allocated to the task of figuring if this gem's words were true.
From the sounds of things, her analytical senses told her that the technician was speaking truths, or at least whole-heartedly believed what she said. It was certainly peculiar that the gem wouldn't know why she had been reassigned; Padpara herself had spoken to gems who had been reassigned before, though they had been given reasoning for their dispatches. But, it seemed to be the truth, and Red's next question might shed more light into that reasoning.
She felt the gaze of the host of this interrogation from her periphery. There was nothing for the aristocrat to say that wouldn't be off putting for Marialite, so she simply tilted her head toward Red and gave a curt nod accompanied by a subdued smile-- indication that, so far, the subject had been fully compliant and honest. Her hands remained politely clasped as her eyes shifted back to regard the one sitting in the hot seat.
Marialite felt something, but what was it exactly? Ah yes, pressure, for some odd reason even though this was a mere questioning if you will she felt as though there was more to it then just some simple questions, this superior could've done any gem yet she was chosen, the new rookie on the moon base. Soon she started to feel as though they didnt like her or they wanted to see if she was even loyal in the first place in which then she felt how she felt back at her old station under yellow diamond's court.
She held her arms to her lap listening to the next question that was spoken from her lips, in which then she made a confused facial expression as to why exactly a Red Beryl would even think about asking of what her other peers would wrote about her in her database. Though this was still a place of which she was called to be in so she had to set aside her feelings for a bit, her mouth opened," you'd probably see a few my ships that I've worked on and how the results came out after I finished my repairments, nothing too essential really, some reviews as well" she'd say noticing the nod that the sapphire gave her.
Know at this moment she felt something was off about them both, her predictions about why the sapphire was present still standed in which then her she simply stared into both there eyes for moment narrowing them gradually,"Hmmm...." she'd say while tapping her fingers contemplating about a few things she has noticed about there general actions.
The smile on Red's face got a bit more realistic "That's good to hear, we always have need of gems with good previous standing" it was an interesting deflection, she'd been aiming to see how others viewed her. But, if there were only repair orders to read through then there wasn't much point, they didn't really give an in-depth view of someone's mental state. However, only one thing was bothering Red, having interrogated plenty of other gems she was acutely aware of most of their temperaments, and the Marialite definitely seemed to be catching on to the fact that Padparadscha and Beryl were probing her for something more...
It was time to help put her mind at ease.
Red's posture changed, slumping into a more comfortable position, though in truth the awkward situation of caring about her own comfort was enough to negate the effect. It was more to accentuate her next words though "Feel free to relax, think of this as a simple survey. Recent events have given the upper command reason to check in with every gem who comes in. Make sure that they are happy, and were sent here on purpose... imagine this simply as a way of us getting to know you. If there were any serious problems with your record then you wouldn't be here at all" chuckling a bit at the end "And so far you're doing perfectly" glancing down at her holo-screen.
There weren't too many more questions on her list, it was a probe to test the other gems power; not a secret police interrogation... at least not in length "And in that interest, the final question. Do you have any desire to travel off station?" eyebrows innocently quirking upwards, punctuating the question.
The sapphire kept her eyes on Marialite, and made the realization that this gem was very sharp. She would have to be, in the line of work that she did, in order to think critically about the many different complex problems that might ale a broken down ship, or the processes that were expected to be gone through in the event that a ship needed its routine check and upgrades. Marialite's mannerisms seemed to be showcasing a distrust that had been flipped onto the two other gems in the room; Padparadscha would have tried to find a way to tell Red that the subject was catching on, but the change in the beryl's tone told her that wasn't necessary.
Instead, she simply gave another nod to indicate that what was said was truthful. Part of her was relieved that this gem didn't seem to have anything to lie about, though another part of her missed that mystery that came with interrogating a known fugitive. Her sense did chime to her when the Red tried to put the small technician at ease, and this made her realize something; earlier the beryl's intent had seemed off, though Padparadscha had chalked it up to her own nerves and Red's uncanny demeanor. But now that she was in the swing of it, her abilities on high alert, she realized there seemed to be an ulterior motive here that neither her nor Marialite was privy to.
Padpara eyed the white-court gem as she spoke on. Then, the aristocrat's gaze wandered over the armed Petalite guards that were at attention on either side of the technician. They were utterly unreadable, she supposed that the enigmatic White Diamond had made them that way on purpose, but there was something supremely frustrating about that for the sapphire who had relied on this ability to read gems for the majority of her existence. For now, she turned her attention back on Marialite in anticipation of her reaction to this next posed question.
Marialite stilled was focused, even though internally she wanted to shake rapidly as she was more so nervous on the result of this simple survey, she saw how the tone of Red Beryl's voice changed along with her posture as well in which then she presumed that she must've hit something with them which lead her to fully believe that they're was more to this survey yet she kept her composure following the orders of her superior.
She then held her arms on her lap appearing more comfortable, once Red asked her supposable final question she blinked in thought, she never really even thought about going off station as she didn't really know why she would need to unless it's a mission whereas she needs to go repair a crashed ship. Marialite paused for a few minutes in silence still thinking about it until she came to a conclusion," Actually going off station wouldn't be so bad.. but I'm not sure.. I'll have to speak to my manager about if it's even possible for me to leave though since I'm new here and all" she said in reply speaking as truthfully as possible. Though still she was curious about this survey, it might be a step out of line but she had to ask," I dont mean to be rude but what exactly is this survey all about? I'm sure by know.. y-you can see that I'm a little skeptical about this all.. " she said trying to get a full grasp on this matter.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
