She blinked, remembering that Chip hadn't been off of the Earth's surface as far as she knew, and so he'd never been outfitted with the technology that Homeworld may have otherwise provided him. Her own technology was deceptively simplistic in appearance, a single hovering holo-tablet that could access her entire diagnostic apparatus. It could easily gather video evidence, but what wouldn't be so easy for her was the matter of approaching the fugitive meant to be the subject of the evidence capture.
Chip, on the other hand, could fly. An ability she found herself a bit envious of. The issue was that Chip likely didn't know how to operate her tablet, which was difficult enough to operate without proper sized hands. She pulled back around the wall to remain hidden, and sat in thought for a moment. Then, she summoned her tablet, flicked through it with her small gecko hands, and rubbed her chin with the other. "We can do a trade-off-- I'll initiate the recording, then hand the holoscreen to you-- when we find the suspect. You'll be able to get better footage from your vantage point," When she was done speaking, she put her tech away and peered back out into the hall as she awaited Chip's input.

"Sure... I should be able to just point it at the gem... if that's all that it takes. I have to warn you... I don't work well with gem tech... but pointing this I might handle..."
He landed right next to her. He didn't have arms right now, but it could possibly be attached to his leg? Perhaps... bats weren't designed to hold anything. He left this minor detail to his sapphire friend. Once it was attached somehow he flew down the corridor, keeping close to the ceiling. He didn't have the same echolocation bats had, but he had quite keen eyesight so finding this gem shouldn't be that hard... she had to be somewhere...
Padparadscha kept the fire opal within view as she scurried out, but she kept her distance, knowing that it would be rather peculiar indeed to see two different brightly colored animals conspiring in a hall way. If something went awry, she'd want to be there to help just in case. The stranger could be the only one of her allegiance in the temple, that would give the two Homeworlders the numbers advantage. However, there was the possibility that she was one of many. The sapphire thought on her strategies, no matter what case they would be presented with.
She paused when they neared the sound of shuffling coming from a nearby room-- the other gem stepped out into the hall, and she carried a broomstick gripped tightly in her hands. This was the first good look that Padpara could get of the gem; she seemed to be some manner of technician, lanky and off-colored. The stranger's narrowed, green eyes darted to and fro, on alert after her previous bat encounter, grasping the broom more like a sword than a cleaning implement. "C'mon out varmint-- Ahhh!" The gem spotted Chip and ducked back through the room, slipping out of sight as quickly as she had come into it.

Chip flew slowly and carefully. There was no saying, how this gem might react. If Chip was attacked he would shoot fire... if this gem had similar power, Chip didn't want to get the taste of it. Fortunately it seemed, that this gem's idea of sufficient defence was a broom. Also the gem was a coward.
Chip swooped down, doing a quick flyover just over the gem's head, trying to point the recording device directly at the gem. He made a quick circle above the gem and than quickly retreated, before the gem could use it's broom. Hopefully the footage he obtained was enough. Though was it just the one gem here? Perhaps there were more? Than again wouldn't this one call the others for help?
Chip quickly disappeared behind a corner where he could show the footage to his companion.
She was quick to pick up on Chip's intent as he went around the corner. She followed, and tried to contain her excitement has Chip prepared to show her the footage. She looked it over, with a smirk. The footage was clear, there was not only facial visual on the gem, but full recognition would be easy at this distance. The gem was dressed in strange, earthling attire-- though Padparadscha knew that wasn't always an indication of treasonous beliefs, it would certainly be compelling for the managers who would be looking this evidence over. When the footage ended, she glanced to Chip and gave a nod. "This is enough proof that the place could be considered a hide-out. Next time, some enforcers will have the drop on the place, and may be able to apprehend our suspect," But, the sapphire was feeling ambitious. There was at least one gem here, but she seemed to be easy to avoid. "Maybe...maybe we can get a layout?"
While she whispered, there was a scuff against the stone floor, and quick footsteps that echoed down the hall. The sapphire peered around the corner to see the broom-wielding gem dash around another hall. She seemed to have some intent of her own. With that, Padpara turned back to the orange bat. "It looks like the suspect is up to something,"

Chip was just nodding. He had no idea about most of what Padparadscha was saying. Most of those gem places were deserted, left empty a long time ago. So why should they force this on out? At least this one was keeping the place tidy. Or... close enough at least. But she was probably following orders from her Diamond? Possibly... Chip was out of his element... so he too was just following orders, Padparadscha's orders.
He wanted to say, reply to the plan of getting a layout, but than something else happened. The gem was running around with the broom? It was fairly strange. "Well... it seems to me like he is tiding this place up..."
She smirked at Chip's comment. "A bit strange, no? This gem seems to have a penchant for it," But, she couldn't shake the determined look she'd seen on that gem's face. There was a situation here, and the sapphire wanted to get to the bottom of it. All the same, anything they did from this point out would become extra trappings to the already acquired evidence. Sometimes, it was better to leave while one was ahead, so to speak, but Padpara wasn't one to easily give up. Still feeling ambitious, she gave a nod into the direction of the fugitive gem.
"Maybe she's cleaning, but I have a feeling there is something else going on. If we trail the gem, she might lead us straight into more evidence," She explained,"and we might be able to get a new layout for the place, just in case the rebels have changed anything about it since the last maps." Though she knew that it was ultimately her call as a sapphire and the contractor of the mission, she still felt a bit uncouth for imposing this job upon a gem she technically owed a favor to, so she smiled,"Technically, the evidence you've recorded is enough, however,"

"This is Earth... gems are doing the craziest stuff... some of them are eating and drinking... some of them are feeling pain... so why not cleaning?"
A suspiciously large number of gems were starting to act as humans... which was... well... strange. And also illogical. Humans were nice, yes, but they were hundreds of millions years behind Gems when it came to evolution. "Well we can do a little more digging if you want... this gem isn't really a threat to us... but do you have some plan? My plans are usually "charge in and fight my way through" and it really doesn't apply here..."
It wasn't like he couldn't think of a plan... it was just usually simpler for him to just fight...
The sapphire nodded. It was equally perplexing to her, the fact that gems would want to immerse themselves in human activities. All the same, she had immersed herself in a bit of Earth custom since her dispatch. Eating and drinking she found to be particularly disturbing given her prior experiences with them, but cleaning was something she could appreciate a bit more. A cleaning unit, a robonoid of some kind usually, would be set to the task of keeping things tidy on a loyalist controlled base. But here, without such a luxury, there were still gems who had a will for things to be in order. Padpara could interpret this in all sorts of philosophical manners, but she supposed that Chip wouldn't be much interested in such talk. Aside from that, there were things to do.
"For some situations, that's the best sort of plan," She started, letting a bit of her amusement at the idea show on her expression. Strategizing was one of the sapphire's own penchants. Though it wasn't exactly what she was made for, she could be rather adept at it. "But as you allude, this particular one will have to be taken in a more round-about manner. We still don't know if this gem is alone here; if she is, that will be to our benefit and our detriment, but we'll work with that when we figure it out. For the time being I say we focus on tailing her and gathering evidence on any activity going on here. Along the way, I'll keep a documentation roll on our tracks to garner a layout,"
She paused for a moment. In her past dealings with military gems, many weren't patient enough to sit through her plans, though others were perfectly willing. It was hard for her to realize when she was going over their heads or not-- but Chip seemed to be the type to listen well. After the short intermission she took to read the other gem, she continued. "What we should do is indirectly follow her, attempting to use the old maps to match up parallel halls. We'll easily find discrepancies in the current layout this way, and we wont have to worry about getting lost as long as I have my record rolling,"

"For some, yes... but right now... not so much..."
He was an elite warrior gem, but still a warrior gem, his job was suppose to be fighting. And while he didn't exactly come out right, he was still quite adept at fighting. He was quite able to think quickly on his feet (or wings) but he wasn't much for greater planning...
"It's nice plan, simple, but be careful... gems who are... unaccustomed to shape shifting could loose the form after some time... if you feel weird just pull back and transform back... don't risk it... it might get... weird..."
It took him a long time to practice shape-shifting, but right now he was quite proficient... able to hold his shape for long time...
That was something the sapphire had allowed to slip her mind in the commotion that had transpired-- and something she hadn't exactly accounted for. While so far things seemed to be okay, she wondered if it would be worth it to continue, or to try to take a break. She didn't feel weird, but she didn't want to risk faltering during a crucial moment. At the same time, this was the first time she'd ever tried sustained shape shifting-- what if she couldn't do it again? It seemed outlandish, but she didn't know what to expect.
"Ah, right," She started, her mouth hung open for a moment as she tried to think of the best way to go about things. "I feel okay for now but...maybe I should take a break?" After all, her other abilities were very taxing on her vitality. If they were to get into a kerfuffle of some kind, she would want the energy to use her plasma. Still, it could be more productive to make an attempt to avoid it altogether. It was a tough call to make, but for now they were in the clear. If she had to test things out, it seemed safe to do so. "I really don't know as much as I should about this shape-shifting business,"

"It might be... prudent to take a small break. This place is big, there has to be a safe part for small rest. Even few minutes might help. Holding an unintended form for a long time is... unpleasant... the side-effects even less so..."
It was strange, the way he looked most of the time wasn't his intended form... it was the only form he was able to take when his gem was damaged. Once he got healed he felt like he could finally assume his intended form. Being a big warrior gem... but he felt like it wasn't him anymore. He assumed it just once... and it was so difficult to get rid of it afterwards. Since then he never tried it again.
"From what I learned they aren't all that keen about shape shifting on Homeworld..."
With that, she became a bit nervous. She couldn't imagine what these unpleasant side effects could be, and she didn't want to find out either. But, it wasn't a pleasant thought to consider that she could become an easily noticeable target either. It was still up in the air whether they were the only gems in the temple aside from the previous suspect. Ultimately, if she were compromised due to a botched shape-shifting effort, then the whole mission could be brought to a halt.
"We're safe right here, I assume. If not then, well, it's just as safe as anywhere else in this place,"She stood, flicked out her arms, and in a whirl of pink light, the sapphire took on her natural shape. The room seemed strangely unfamiliar from this perspective, standing like a proper gem instead of looking around from the low-slung perspective of a lizard. It almost seemed weird to be back to normal, though she assumed this feeling would dissipate. "There," She breathed, rolling her shoulders a bit to get use to it. Then she put her hand to her chin and tapped it, considering Chip's last comment.
"Well, I've never shape shifted before today, mostly because I just never saw the need. My intended shape is usually what serves me best in my endeavors. As a sapphire, it may certainly be uncouth and could be seen as a frivolous use of energy for me to shift my form. But, other types of gems are encouraged, if not expected to shape shift as a part of their function in society," She kept her voice lowered, but her tone was conversational as she thought aloud,"I wouldn't say that I've used my energy frivolously today, in fact I believe it has helped me-- quite literally-- to see a new perspective on shape shifting, as a field tool," Then, she gave a little smile, before letting it fall, and moving on to her next concern.
"Are you going to take a break? Or are you...use to it?" She asked mostly out of simple curiosity, but it was always shrewd to make sure everyone in the team was on the same page.

Chip followed her to the safe place. Once she shape-shifted to her regular form he did the same.
"I should be able to keep my form for hours... or even days if needed. But it would be foolish to refuse a rest when it's possible. I think I'm quite the expert on Shape-shifting, though mostly self-taught. I found it really useful... I mostly transform to be stealthy... or when I want to be really scary..."
"My current form isn't exactly scary after all.... I am very good warrior, but hardly imposing at first sight... "
It help him several times... gems had a tendency to underestimate him, since he looked like a kid. It didn't diminish his abilities in the slightest. He could easiyl go toe to toe with any other elite warrior, he was just nicer to look at while doing so.
Her brows floated up in a bit of surprise. She'd not met that many gems who were avid shape-shifters, and none who were self taught in the way that Chip was (as far as she knew). But it wasn't so surprising to hear that the apprentice of Morion had practice in his stealth tactics, it was part of the reason she'd employed him for this job after all. Still, it was good to have those notions reaffirmed. "I'm glad to hear it Chip, having an expert around certainly makes me feel better about this whole shape-shifting business," She smiled, and thought about the rest of what he said.
"Well, being intimidating is certainly useful for a warrior. But there are situations where seeming less so could be in your favor," She thought aloud. There had been times when she'd been underestimated, though she'd never actually tried to illicit that response. In the courtroom it could come as a serious disadvantage if the gems in the room looked down on her, but in the field, she noticed that gems could become sloppier fighters if they didn't see their opponent as a legitimate threat. "You can imagine that I'm not often taken seriously in combat, being a sapphire. But, if the enemy underestimates, they're already at a disadvantage," Her smile became more of an amused smirk as she thought of those moments in her life. "Still, it's good to have practiced warriors such as yourself on my side,"

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
