She stopped her investigation of the tapestry, jolted out of her thought process by the idea. It was certainly a way to quickly get a head-count for the gems here, and to quickly apprehend many gems. But it wasn't the goal of the mission to do so, it was reconnaissance, which was why she had been charged with it instead of a group of soldiers, and why she had chosen to go alone until she realized having Chip along would be convenient. Having no idea how many gems were really here, the tactic could easily overwhelm the Homeworlders.
"Chip," She began quietly, her eyes following the orange bird as he soared around the room,"I see what you're thinking, and honestly I'm just as eager to find more tangible evidence. But it's a considerable risk to invite violence onto this endeavor,"
Though, perhaps it wouldn't be up to them. As Padpara spoke, the tapestry flew aside, revealing the green gem that they had kept running into this whole time.
"Aha! I knew there was something fishy going on here!" The rebel gem exclaimed as she pounced onto the pink lizard and scooped her up. Then, as Padpara struggled in her grasp, the gem stuck out her hand, and summoned her gem-weapon-- the broom,"No one will be attacking this sanctuary, if I have anything to do with it you-- you villains!"

As Chip was listening to his Sapphire companion he started to think about more subtle approach. Unfortunately it seemed that speaking during a missions was quite unwise as the green gem from before captured Sapphire-lizard. It seemed that Chip will get his fight after all...
He quickly swooped from the air right at the gem. But instead attacking her head as before he flew between her legs, transforming into his true form behind him. Whoever this gem was she had no chance against a gem warrior! At least that was what Chip hoped. He quickly kicked the gem, trying to shove it to the ground and force her to release Sapphire. He really didn't want to summon his weapon in combat with someone who used a broom as a weapon...
"Oof!" The attack thoroughly caught the gem off-guard, and Chip quickly gained the upper hand as she stumbled back and tripped over her own feet. This gave Padparadscha a moment to wriggle free of the loosened grip of the enemy, and she whirled to attempt to take back her original form-- only, there seemed to be some kind of issue. She focused her mind on the shape she wanted to return to, but like before, nothing happened. A bit of panic struck her as she scurried away and tried to fix the issue, but every moment that passed was more lost time on her part.
The defender she'd employed claimed to be a master shape-shifter, so she knew he may have some wisdom on how to reverse whatever was going on. But, now he was embroiled in a fight, and she didn't particularly want to distract him at the moment. The green rebel recovered deftly, leaping back up to her feet with acrobatic finesse. Then, she twirled her broom as if it were a martial staff. The sapphire realized that whoever this gem was, she wasn't unaccustomed to fighting, despite her meek appearance-- the rebel struck out, attempting to give Chip payback for his attack.
In the meantime, the sapphire decided that she could support and defend just as well if she were in the shape of a lizard, though she wondered if she would be able to conjure her katar like this. She summoned her plasma, and prepared to use it to trap the gem.

A gem fighter with a broom, Chip has now officially seen everything. Not that it really matter in the long run. Since this gem wasn't completely inexperienced Chip summoned his lance after all, it was certainly more useful than a broom. He didn't do any trick with it, he just shot a stream of fire towards the gem... not strong enough to actually damage a gem, but still powerful enough to harm his projection...
He wasn't sure why Sapphire didn't join him in the fight, or why she at least didn't transform into her proper form, but it wasn't all that important right now, he had fight to win. Sapphire was safe for now and that was his main goal...
The enemy had quite the smirk on her face, as she was sure she would strike the shorter gem-- but she was again caught off guard as a flare of heat blasted in her direction. Wide-eyed, she dove out of the way. The flames nicked her, and she grimaced as she landed on her feet,"I don't know who you gems are, but you're not getting what you came for!" Then, she swung her staff out, trying to trip the fire opal off of his feet.
Padpara made note of the fact that the gem didn't seem to be calling for back up-- she was either very confident, or alone and foolhardy. She also noted that Chip seemed to be going easy on her, perhaps her help wasn't even required in this situation. But as the two of them had discussed not long ago, it was always a losing maneuver to underestimate a foe. At any rate, they outnumbered her; if she could be defeated, then she could be brought back to base and interrogated. That little silver lining made her realize the fortune of this turn of events, but only if the loyalists could be victorious.
While the two gems went toe-to-toe, the sapphire still desperately tried to gain a handle on this shift-shaping mishap. She felt more pressure to tell Chip that something was wrong, but at the same time, the enemy would hear her say that, giving the rebel a bit of an upper hand. So, Padpara just concentrated on using her plasma like a trip wire; she waited for the right moment to snare the foe, hoping Chip would be able to pick up on her strategy as she began to pull a line of glowing plasma along the floor, laying a trap behind the rebel.

Chip let the gem think, that she could trip him. In the last moment he activated his fire wings and instead of falling he remained levitating, using the surprise to hit the gem with weak blast of fire right in the face. It wasn't enough to harm her, but it should've blinded her. Chip's lance vanished and instead he pulled out a shield out of his gem. It was perfectly crafted gem shield from Para - lady of the Forge. Chip used it, to knock the gem backwards. He noticed, that the lizard sapphire was trying to prepare some kind of trap, so he tried to push his opponent into it. Chip really didn't want to harm her... it wasn't his style. He hated fighting other gems, but he hated harming them even more. There were only two gems, that he would harm without a problem and those were Sulfur and Howlite...
The gem barely registered the fact that her enemy had leaped into the air before her eye-sight was occluded by a flash of bright light. "Ah!" she fumbled with her weapon, and before she knew it she'd been bunted by Chip's shield. She stumbled back, tripping right over the trap that Padpara had laid.
The sapphire didn't recall a time when a plan had gone so well. A giddiness coursed through her as she anticipated finally bringing down this traitor who kept lurking passed them in this place. Though, now, there was the issue of finishing this gem off so she could be brought in for interrogation. The sapphire had her own hang-ups about hurting gems, and for a moment she stalled. Still shocked and blinded, the rebel gem wriggled her way around, trying to get back up to her feet.
"Give it up now and come quietly back to Headquarters, or lose your physical form-- which do you prefer?" Padparadscha tried to sound intimidating, though it was hard for her to be that since she was still trapped in the shape of a small pink gecko. For a moment the rebel wasn't even sure where the voice was coming from, looking around with a befuddled look on her face, still trying to regain her senses.
"Y-you'll never take me alive!" The gem exclaimed as she scrabbled along the floor, blinking wildly.

The fight was over quickly. The plan worked flawlessly. Sapphire gave the gem two options, but she was too proud to choose, though apparently not proud enough no to scrabble along the floor. Chip threw his lance, which pierce the floor right before her, though disappearing quickly.
"Calm down a little, if I wanted you dead you would be before you would even see me. Perhaps you might tell us who you are and what are you doing here..."
He asked. He was sounding just like a curious kid. Not as a gem warrior. This time he was trying to be nice, though that could change instantly if this gem would play a hero... or dumb. Chip could scare a lot of gems, when he tried, though he hated to do so...
The gem continued to blink her eyes, until the lance struck the ground next to her and she reeled back from it. She regained her eyesight enough to squint back at Chip, and grit her teeth. Dark green eyes flicked to and fro as she tried to locate the lizard-shaped gem, though Padparadscha was standing some ways off, manipulating her plasma so as to create a perimeter around the rebel gem, preventing any chance of escape.
"W-why should I tell a couple of loyalists?" She squeaked, realizing she had no where else to go she sat up, clutching her broom in her hands. Chip may have seemed friendlier, but the green gem saw it only as a guise.
The sapphire rolled her eyes. The rebel was only prolonging the inevitable, and every gem in the room knew it,"I suppose if you didn't tell us now, you'd tell us in the interrogation room?" The sapphire mused aloud, her tone was much less approachable than Chips. The fugitive's eyes flicked between the two gems pressuring her, and she pressed her lips into a line before looking at the orange gem who had just defeated her.
"Ens...my names' Enstatite, and I'm just here to tidy up," The rebel managed, though she averted her eyes for a moment. The sapphire's gaze narrowed as she detected a bit of an omission of the truth in that statement.
"Tidy up for what?" Padpara pressed on, but now Enstatite seemed to keep her mouth zipped for a solid second as her eyes flicked between the gems.
"I dunno, I just like it clean okay?" The dark green gem wrung her hands around her broom, then turned to face Chip,"Look, whatever it is you gems want, you're not going to find it here. It's just an empty temple...a sanctuary," Though the sapphire had expected to detect an untruth here as well, Enstatite seemed to be telling a truth, or something that she believed at the very least to be true.

Chip was just standing there and listening. It was... difficult to just stand there... he dislike being scary, he hated hurting others. But right now he just tried to listen to what was going on. It took only few seconds for Sapphire to get the information she needed and she only needed one little thread to do it.
"Well... I heard about sanctuaries like this... gem who don't want to follow the Diamonds but also don't want to fight them are gathering there... they don't want to be pawns or soldiers... they want to be left alone..."
He said. There were more and more of those - seeking freedom from the Empire but were unwilling to fight for it as Crystal Gems.
What Chip said seemed to resonate with Enstatite, she lit up as she turned to face the young gem, "Yes, that's exactly right! We, well, I just want to be left alone. No Crystal Gem's here, no loyalists, just...just me," She attempted to stand up, but Padparadscha kept the pressure on the runaway gem with her scalding plasma. The sapphire had detected a lie, and the corners of her lips drew downward. She wasn't sure what part of the statement would be the untruth, but she would suss it out.
"You're still a rebel," She sneered, then eyed Chip for a second. There was something about Chip's wording she didn't like, especially when considering the conversation the two of them had about his rebel contacts-- she didn't want to be suspicious of him, but then, she also didn't want to be tricked. Perhaps she would have to be more careful in her assessment of this fire opal. Her gaze slid back over to the suspect,"So you've admitted that this is a nest of defectors. Are you truly the only one here?"
Enstatite sat quiet for a moment, still facing the fire opal for a moment, then eyed the sapphire,"Wait, why are you...why are you a lizard?" The rebel gem tried to keep herself from smiling.
"Tch, don't try to change the subject," The sapphire chewed on her cheek. She was still a lizard, after all, and Chip had already warned her of the dangers of prolonged shape shifting. Now, she decided to put a pin in this little interrogation, drawing her plasma around Enstatite to create a cage, and let it cool down as she drew the rest of her plasma back into the ether. "Well, actually...can I have a word with you for a moment?" She motioned toward the fire opal defender, and scurried to the other side of the room.

Chip could relate to this gem. If he didn't meet Morion he would probably be like him. A week gem trying to stay out of the conflict. He was helping Sapphire, but mostly because he felt like he should. But he wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Part of him craved to be accepted by Pink Diamond, part of him wanted to be free... and he didn't know which part was the right one to follow. He was afraid to admit that, because that could bring back the voice. It felt silent since he proclaimed his loyalty to Homeworld... but he felt like it could easily get back. Fortunately his train of thoughts was interrupted by Sapphire. "Oh, yeah, sure. How can I help?"
She probably wanted to know how to delizard herself?
Chip's guess would've been partially right as he approached the lizard, who stood with her fore-paws crossed. Though, there was also the matter of dealing with this rebel, and she had a mind to figure out just what it was that Chip thought about this situation. She eyed him for a moment, then uncrossed her arms. First, she would deal with this shape shifting issue.
"You said that it, uh, gets weird when one shape-shifts too long," She managed quietly, peering around to get a look at Enstatite, who sat cross-legged under the plasma cage. The rebel herself craned her neck around to try to see or hear what the two Homeworlders were up to,"I believe that things have now gotten weird," She cleared her throat,"Because if you haven't noticed, I'm...well I'm still a lizard, and I certainly tried not to be," As if to demonstrate, she closed her eyes, tried to think about her original form, and take it, but again, nothing happened. Her lips pressed together in frustration; this was a situation she'd never foreseen herself getting into. Deep down, a flicker of panic manifested-- what if she were forever known as the sapphire who became a lizard, and got stuck that way? If it was difficult to get along with other aristocrats before, then it would certainly be a battle to deal with them in the form of a lowly earth creature. "I'm hoping that you have some method of dealing with a situation like this?" Her brows floated up, almost desperately awaiting the answer that would get her back into her intended form.

Chip was listening. It was as he thought - she was stucked at being a lizard. It was... a bit amusing actually. A powerful and wise homeworld emissary stuck being lizard, but he didn't laugh. Though he might smile a little, though quickly erased the smile from his face.
"Well... never happened to me... when I trained shapeshifting and I overdone it I started to... melt... like a candle on hot sun."
He explained. This was something new to him. But it was hardly dangerous. At worst it was an incovinience. Sooner or later she should be able to regain her intended shape... or perhaps... hmmm... "Well... this isn't good... but it isn't catastrophic either. The part is, that longer you stay like this the harder it would be to transform back... eventually you will probably poof from the exhaustion... and then you can regain your proper form. But I wouldn't call that a plan A. Perhaps you should take few minutes to concentrate and then try it again?"
Her eyes widened with horror as Chip spoke of melting like a candle, or using so much energy that one actually had to release their form in response. Despite his reassurances that it wasn't a catastrophe, her panic manifested into a whirl as she tried to rack her mind for how she might avoid having to go through that. Though, what the fire opal said about concentration made her realize that her focus had been split since the moment Enstatite came into the fold. She had been so worried about capturing and interrogating the gem that she had her concentration fuddled. Even now as the conversation was under way, the sapphire's eyes kept flicking over to make sure the fugitive wasn't attempting anything unsanctioned.
Enstatite herself was sitting cross-legged under her cage, craning her neck around as she tried to get a look at the loyalists and eavesdrop on what they were saying. As Padparadscha eyed the gem, she gave a sigh. "I think we're going to have to deal with this rebel first. I wont have piece of mind until this gem is locked in a holding cell. Processing the traitor is now the priority of the mission. We need to get her back to Headquarters and interrogate her for more information," She spoke in a low tone, and eyed Chip,"So far it would seem that this assignment has been a resounding success. We just need to keep it that way. The easiest thing to do would to be to get her to release her form, so there is no chance of her escape," She wondered how the defender might take that, given the tendencies she had noticed in his demeanor, and in past encounters with him.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
