Tourmaline could see the base of the mountains a couple miles away! He could almost taste freedom, that is if he knew what freedom tasted like in the first place. (I'm assuming the heat from Paddy is going to be evaporating the dew and moist plants from the jungle, and burning the dry pieces of wood and dead plants) Tourmaline turned around to see if his pursuer's were on his tail, when what he saw horrified him. His eyes widened as he saw a mixture of steam and smoke rise from the area of the jungle around the warp pad, and making its way towards him! "W-What is THAT?!" he said in more of shock than really wanting an answer. It MUST be some kind of machinery, one designed to do nothing but destroy organic life...
The roiling smoke pressed on through the trees as the two Homeworlders made their way through. Behind them was a rectangle of singed plant matter and steam. She had supposed it would make them visible, but the one they chased already knew they were coming at any rate. The high-lands of the jungle were much different than the river basin, but the crush of foliage and trees around her gave her a similar claustrophobic sensation. As they came closer to the foothills, the jungle became more dispersed, giving her a bit more room and a bit less in the way to burn-- which gave her a bit of a conflicted feeling; the small smile on her face betrayed the satisfaction she got from this opportunity to beat back the organic chaos. But, it would help to quicken their pace.
It took quite a bit of energy to burn this far, but the sapphire conserved as much as she could and kept pressing on steadily, knowing that their diagonal trajectory would put them right into the path of the runaway. She began to hear the whirring of heavy machinery in the distance, a sound in stark contrast to the buzz of organic creatures. The mountains loomed to the west; she wondered what the fugitive had hoped to find there.
As they came out of the press of jungle trees Red smiled, she wasn't bothered by enclosed spaces; but the jungle had a way of making sure you couldn't see far in the distance. Yet at the same time, it had so many small paths that other beings could presumably sneak through and attack you. All in all, it was a great relief to finally come out into open space and finally get a look at the Mountains towards which the mechanical being was headed.
The terrain around them was already becoming rocky, a large cliff stood between them and the rogue gem, it wasn't too bad of a climb for Red... but aristocrats did have a tendency to dress on the more conservative side. Sure they could transform, but if this jungle was anything to go by she would probably want to make sure that Padparadsha kept as much energy as possible in case they needed to burn through a lot of other things. Not the least of which was the gem that they were catching up with.
So she extended a hand "This would be easiest I think" though her tone was apologetic.
Tourmaline's machine climbed the mountain side with relative ease, but it was still a bumpy ride. Maybe an omni gyro positioning sphere should be placed on it to keep stable seating..this chase was actually began to become a great test run for the prototype. If it wasnt for the fact he was so terrified, he would probably feel very happy about how his invention was turning out. He could begin to make 2 ant size figures make their way from the jungle. Where was that machine he saw? Maybe it was one of those gems down there who caused all of that damage, the thought horrified tourmaline. He really needed to lose these gems in the mountain, or else this could be the end of him.
It seemed that the gem's technology had given him quite an advantage, it was easy to spot the machine's finish glinting in the sun as it began to scale the cliff. It was peculiar to think that this gem had made off with such a thing, she'd never seen one on Homeworld, on base, or in the field. She was drawn to surmise that the technology must have been created on the planet-- was this a technician they were dealing with, or some gem who knew of a technician adept enough to build such a thing?
She retracted her plasma as they had no more need for it for the time being, and turned to Red as she spoke. She wasn't altogether sure what the beryl intended to do, but she decided that her short legs and her outfit were probably what concerned her partner; they would have to be quick if they wanted to catch this gem before he made it up over the mountain. Energy would also have to be conserved, as it was quite possible she'd have to scale a mountain very soon, and use her abilities to help stop this outlaw in his tracks. She placed her hand in Red's, and nodded.
Red had studied mountain goats for a bizarrely long amount of time... after learning about the various types of terrain that covered Earth's surface she had launched an exhaustive investigation into how exactly the creatures that lived on the planet dealt with them. In doing so she had made sure to try and replicate their styles of movement and gradual adaptations that allowed them to freely move over obstacles... though she had to admit, it had been far easier when not carrying another sapphire in her arms.
After grabbing a hold of the other gem she had hoisted her into a carrying style that would leave her feet unobstructed in order to make sure that she could easily scale the rock wall that was in front of them. Taking off at a dead sprint she launched herself through the air; trying to make sure and avoid the largest amount of the climb as possible; before digging her toes into the hard, yet crackable rock formation. This allowed her to walk sideways up the side of the cliff, only stopping for rest once she had reached the "top" where they were foiled by a large outcropping, that would necessitate a dangerous maneuver to get over it.
Looking down at the sapphire in her arms she mentally apologized, hoping that the look in her eyes would give away how regrettable this was. Before dropping her to be held by one arm and pushing off of the wall with all her strength; effectively leaping away from the rocky cliff. Swinging the other arm up to grab the sparse, grass covered lip of the cliff. Dangling she put all her strength into pushing the Sapphire up and over onto the sturdy ground that was just below the mountain range that they were headed towards.
Tourmaline could see the distance the gems has crossed in such a small amount of time, he began to juice the machine more resulting in it speeding up, but something was wrong, the engine started to spark due to the output! "Oh my gem!" he exclaimed, "I think it's reached its limit!" He knew there was a simple fix, but he did not have the time to do so. He quickly paused the machine, so it's like a spider hanging on the side of the mountain. He charged EVEN more electricity and the cannon on the back began to glow. He fired off the energy towards the two gems, not so much to hit them as to warn them. The area around the impact would short circuit electronics.
The sapphire's eyes widened with a jolt of surprise as Red took a hold of her and sprang forward in full-throttle pursuit of the runaway. Before she knew it the both of them shot through the air and onto the rock-- she had a death-grip on the beryl's arms as she scaled the sheer cliff-side, and tried not to glance down. When Red paused for a fleeting moment, with her quiet apology, the sapphire could guess what she was about to do given the obstacle. Though her teeth were clenched, she supposed that they'd have to do whatever was necessary to make up for lost time. Despite this, she was still caught off guard when Red leaped off of the cliff, it was difficult for her to keep her composure.
"G-good maneuvering, comrade," Padparadscha managed, once she climbed up onto stable ground. It was just in time for her to look up and realize there was canon fire zipping down the mountain. However, it seemed to be a misfire or intentionally misdirected as it zoomed straight passed the sapphire and hit the ground of the outcropping, sending an electromagnetic blast through the air. A good thing too-- she wasn't sure how quickly she could've reacted if it had come straight for her. For the moment she was glad she wasn't a technician, relying on electronics to get things done, and while the machine was paused, she called up to it,"You may as well stop resisting!" Not that it would make much of a difference for the fugitive. However, at this range, the gem would be able to easily out maneuver her plasma. She turned toward Red, keeping her voice lowered,"I need to get closer if I'm to use my abilities on it. Perhaps we can knock it down?"
She wasn't sure what the range of Red's abilities were exactly, but perhaps it would give an advantage to have an extra weapon at their disposal. With that, she fashioned a javelin out of her plasma, and allowed it to cool.
Red's arms strained as she pulled her own body over the lip of the cliff, it should have been a relatively straightforward maneuver... if it had not been for the fact that she had just finished bringing up another gem with her. Leaving her dangling from the small outcropping by just her fingertips.
And then almost getting blasted by some kind of electricity infused cannon shot; only barely rolling out of the way as she crested the top. Singed hair and clothing left in its wake, suffice it to say Red wasn't happy with the gem they were tracking. So, when she saw Paddy summon a javelin made out of cooled plasma a toothy grin made its way across her face at the prospect of getting some payback.
Stepping up close behind Paddy she summoned her gauntlets and pressed the front of one to the back of the plasma throwing spear "I think we are plenty close as is" before the hammer on her weapon shot forward at blinding speeds, impacting the back of said javelin and sending it hurtling through the air towards their prey. Whose position had been pinpointed by the shot that he had fired at Red.
Tourmaline's eyes widened as he saw what appeared to be a spear of some kind hurled toward him at an alarming rate! He immediatly pushed the lever of movement to the "OFF" mode, and it dropped the spider robot downwards, but the spear impales one of the legs snapping it in half easily! He let the spider bot get nearer to the gems so that he could speak to them, he did not want to fight as his intentions were not to hurt them, just to warn them. "STOP! I do not want to fight anyone, I simply just want to talk!" he turned off all of the robots systems except the one that allowed him to stay on the wall, he could not be too careful.
Though she had intended for Red to use it to her advantage, the sapphire found herself blown away by the sheer speed that the make-shift throwing weapon was flung into the air. The snapped leg of the machine went careening down the cliff face, but the constructed arachnid remained secure. Padpara pursed her lips and crossed her arms as she thought on how to approach the vehicle, now knowing it had some fire-power behind it. She went ahead and began to craft another javelin, then paused as the gem's voice bounced down the rock.
She cracked a smirk as the gem called out to the Homeworlders. The sapphire had no way of knowing what the capabilities of that machine were, but he wouldn't have stopped if he didn't feel cornered, and it seemed that he was. Now it seemed that he was retracting his fire, perhaps as a gesture of self-preservation after seeing what his pursuers were capable of. She resumed the creation of the weapon, then let it cool as she thought on the options presented. "Then come here," She proposed simply,"No sudden moves, now. There is more where that came from," With that, she gestured to her newly created spear.
Standing behind Paddy Red's eyes narrowed, the fact that this gem wanted to talk meant one of three things. There was nowhere to run; which didn't make any sense, the mountains had land on the other side not to mention plenty of caves to hide in away from anyone hunting you. He had a sudden and immediate change of heart; possible, considering rebel gems irrational and often on the spot changes of heart. Or, he was running out of power for his robot, though if she were to accurately guess that last one she would have to know where the machine got its juice.
Which meant that two of the three options were possible, if impossible to logically discern exactly which one it was. Leaving Red with only one combination of the possibilities to presume in the upcoming meeting of the minds, that he was dangerously unstable with a weapon of unknown power...
And the other member of her team was clearly buying his 'I want to talk' routine to buy time. Honestly, Red could've thought of better ways this situation might have turned out.
But also worse.
So, as the spider machine got closer, Red kept her fist clenched. Ready to punch another javelin forwards, or rush up and see if the metal of this robot could take that much power.
Tourmaline's Robot slowly made its way to the duo gems. He looked at Red Beryl who was CLEARLY ready for anything he could do, as if he could do anything right now, or just seems like she would just poof him anyways, if not shatter him. "I seriously do not want to fight (he says this to red beryl) so can we please calm down?" he was scared gem-less of red beryl. Her partner seemed to be much more reasonable. He slowly stopped sending the electricity to the robot letting it SLOWLY power down. "See? You can trust me, I don't want to fight." again more directly towards red beryl. Tourmaline thought of someway he could possibly talk his way out of this.
Her ability to sense truths was, in part, responsible for her confidence, though from this distance it was difficult to see all of the ticks that would truly impart the knowledge she would need to make an exact determination. This runaway seemed genuinely afraid, which would be advantageous in this situation. The gem clearly couldn't be trusted, despite as he'd stated before, but from his words he seemed to at least believe it himself. What a peculiar encounter this was turning out to be, the sapphire couldn't quite wrap her mind around this gem's behavior or the data she received from her quiet analyzation of his words. She'd been thrown off before, she could be thrown off again. At any rate, it seemed that he had quietly submitted to the request.
As soon as the gem lowered himself, the loyalists would be able to swiftly apprehend him-- she doubted that this machine could withstand the temperatures that her plasma could reach in close quarters. But she formulated new strategies, just in case. For the time being, the beryl seemed to be in thought, and her clenched fists showed her silent readiness for whatever was to come next.
Red thought it best not to mention the fact that him just 'talking' instead of giving up was exactly why they were fighting. However, it was best not to burn bridges especially right before you try to cross them.
So, Red chose to lower her gauntlets, he was close enough that Paddy should be able to reach him with her plasma; having seen the distance that she was able to get on the jets of superheated in order to burn the jungle. And the hazy green gem's mechanical spider was also wounded, making a quick escape something questionable, they would just have to watch out for if he decided the only way to escape was to surprise attack them.
She might have been able to tell exactly what kind of gem he was... except he was just too far away even Red's keen eyes to analyze.
