The sand scattered in their wake, their massive bulk displacing thousands and thousands of grains of pulverized rock as 7XB and their small retinue of Rubies marched down the beach just outside of the aptly named 'Beach City’, the little gems struggling to tote a sizable device on their collective shoulders. The object in question, though few enough of the fleshy humans would ever know, was a short-range transmitter. When activated, said object would temporary highjack all of the earthling’s primitive radio waves in order to broadcast a real-time message.
This wasn't intended for the humans, though, it was for gems- stranded Homeworld gems, namely. Some may know that the primary mission of 7XB and their team was the recovery of assets, namely the countless gems that had been lost on Earth over the years. Thus far, that primary objective had met with little success, though many side tasks had been achieved- but this wasn't enough, not for 7XB.
Beach City was a dangerous place to pick it up, though, as all the reports painted this place as a major base for the rebellion, but the Quartz commander was unbothered. In fact, this was by design. Statically there simply MUST be gems here, but how many of them would be rebels? Truthfully they were hoping for a scrap. “Set it up here,” they ordered, gesturing towards a spread of Beach unlike any other.
Flurry hummed and strolled down the beach. She bent down occasionally to pick up a seashell and put it in a bucket. She hummed happily as she did. Occasionally she would see a sand dollar or a pretty shell. Those were the only ones she really picked up, as she had been walking for a while, and had to be choosy, or else she'd run out of room! She soon came across a group of gems, probably homeworld gems. She shapeshifted her clothing into a homeworld uniform, and her form into that of a Howlite gem. She strolled over to the group and put her hands on her hips. With a brief wave and a smile she addressed them. "Hey guys what's going on here? " She asked, trying to sound somewhat gruff.
On the boardwalk was a small blue gem who was currently very invested in a corn dog that was he was already halfway through. However, he was not so invested in his warm breaded treat to not notice the construction project occurring just a short ways away from town. His eyes adjusted to inspect the site from a short ways away, piquing his interest as soon as he spotted a number of small red gems.
He quickly began bounding off into the sand to reach the curious site seemingly buzzing with activity. Before too long he had reached it and rather than make himself known or ask about the situation, either to the large looking white gem or the other newcomer, he instead continued to eat in silence follow closely behind one of the rubies. He watched, enraptured in everything they did no matter how menial.
Rather focu sed as they were upon situating the smaller, more delicate components of the relay device into the finely ground sand, the somehow unusual voice of a gem caught them off guard, their brow well-furrowed even before they turned to face the.. Howlite? At first glance this gem appeared to be just that, if a little..off-color. They weren't aware of many gems in the area, but wasn't that the just the reason why they were setting up this relay, after all?
Still, something about this gem struck them as off; Though the sudden realization that yet ANOTHER gem had stumbled upon themselves and their less than observant squad of Rubies- an..Agate by the look of them, though not a 'proper’ Agate. They could not help but growl as they spoke, more out of frustration linked to the inattentive nature of their rubies than anything else.
“You're asking about classified information, Howlite,” began the suspicious quartz- the last Howlite they encounter had been no better than a rebel, but if this was truly a lost Homeworld gem it would go against the nature of the mission to deny them. Even still, their untrusting gaze cut across the pair of gems. “I demand to know just exactly you two are,” they demanded imperiously, “state your designations.”
"Ummmm... " Flurry was baffled by all of the sudden questions thrown at her. She didn't know what classified or designations even meant. She tried to think of some sort answer to the questions anyway. She cleared her throat and tried to speak in the gruff tone of a Howlite. "Hm! Well I was just go'in around... trying to hurt some rebels you know? Ooh those rebels! We don't like rebels! Wu ha ha! "
She put her hands on her hips and made a smug smirk. "I`m from the new Howlite team sent her from homeworld! We're here to find the rebels and beat em' up real good! I'm only the best gi-guy for the job! " She smiled, but started to sweat, well if she could sweat. "Wait did you say you two? "
The small Agate's eyes finally managed to rip themselves off of the busy Ruby to meet XB's, looking them up and down to get a full glance at the gem that towered over him. Their question however then directed his attention towards the other gem that he had failed to really notice. Standing on the tips of his feet to look over the equipment that had obscured him from sight Agate tipped his hat, "Hi, hello there!"
He then looked back to XB, "Sorry I don't have a 'designation' but you can call me Agate! I was just kinda curious about what was going on here and decided to investigate." Then as if that excused him being there, Agate immediately set back to watching the Rubies work and examining the equipment they were using.
If the quirked brow offered by the quartz soldier could have raised any higher, it would have, their already-untrusting expression curdling into an even more unpleasant expression at the supposed 'Howlite’’s vague babbling that danced nervously around their question, with no sign of response from that other strange little gem, either. “You don't sound like any Howlite I’VE ever seen,” they scathed cuttingly, aiming their voice then towards their own team of diminutive Rubies, “ stop that off-color, one of you!” This was, of course, in reference to the self-proclaimed agate, quite unlike any of the commanding gems 7XB knew of quite well. The fairly oblivious Rubies turned suddenly to the indicated gem, Agate, trying to puff themselves up to look somewhat intimidating as they eagerly sat aside the tedious work of assembling the relay.
It was then the Quartz turned their attention to the so called Howlite, “I'll ask again. Designation?”
"Desig....Desig... " Flurry realized that the word designations sounded somewhat in a farfetched sort of way, like design. She had to spit out some numbers as if she knew what she was talking about. The Quartz did say that she was unlike any Howlite she had seen before, which Flurry took as good news and missed it's obvious meaning. She straightened her posture and put her hands on her hips. She forced a smug smile and started to recite improvised numbers. " I am Howlite 44B7X123! I was sent here to fight some rebels! Grr! "
She flashed a goofy pose and pointed at the new Agate. She wanted to direct attention away from her, and perhaps save this poor gem simultaneously. "THAT is obviously a rrrrebel! " Flurry growled. "I'll just have to take them away... and lock them up.... in.... the locker! "
Agate became occupied pestering the rubies, asking questions about what each device did or what they were currently doing, though they didn't even notice or bother speaking to him. He was however caught off guard by XB's exclamation, having assumed that he had already excused himself, "Off-color...? I've been called a lot of things; smol, pebble, blueberry, but never 'off-color'. I can't say I'm familiar with the term." He then looked to the rubies, seemingly oblivious to the obvious threat, and merely smiled, "If I'm bothering your work then I can be quiet, not a peep!" Agate then mimed zipping his mouth shut, locking it, and throwing away the key.
His attention then turned to the 'Howlite', raising an eyebrow at them as they went on about hunting rebels. The accusation of being a rebel was an interesting one though, he pretended to grab the key back and 'unlocked' his mouth, "I'm no rebel, I work for..." he paused with a confused expression and moved his finger through the area as if he was tracing an image, getting his answer moments later, "White Diamond! Technically at least, sort of. It's... complicated? Yeah, let's call it that."
It was becoming increasingly clear to the Quartz soldier that neither of these two gems had any sort of right to be here; From the sputtering of an improperly formatted and nonsensical designation number to the denial of even having one, while claiming to serve White Diamond on a planet quite clearly in the possession of Pink Diamond, nothing about this pair was on the up and up.
At best they were another bad batch from the Earth’s Kindergartens, a product of the bad soil and lack of Homeworld guidance. At worst? Rebels.
“This planet is owned by PINK Diamond,” they snuffed towards the gem who didn't seem to know what off-color meant, “And this is a Homeworld operation. You both need to vacate. Now.” Neither of them were the type of gem they were looking to recover, not at this stage anyway. Had the parameters of their mission been much different, they would have gladly assumed they were both rebels and take them in, but that depended on exactly how much of a hindrance they decided to be.
"Umm...I was sent by my Diamond to come here of course! By Pink Diamond." Flurry said with a wink. She turned with confusion toward the gem. She of course assumed that the Blue gem had caught on and was trying to play it cool. She could save them in no time! She faked a gasp and turned toward the blue gem. "I was also sent on my mission to bring you back to a white diamond soldier! Just to have you checked in case you got any cootie-err.. contaminations from the earth! "
Flurry winked with her right eye so that 7XB to her left could not see it. As she did so, she extended her hand toward the blue gem. "Come with me. "
Agate gave the 'Howlite' an odd look, the wink doing absolutely nothing to ease his confusion. Was there a joke he wasn't in on? "Well I'm not a soldier so you must be thinking of someone else. I'm an inquisitor! Or... well... an apprentice." he slightly retracted from their outstretched hand, "And I don't believe I have cooties, thank you. I was made here so I think I'm fine."
Ignoring the Howlite's offer he turned to XB, "If this really is a Homeworld operation then I have just as much of a right to being here as you do." he stood at attention and postured himself up, "As apprentice to Grand Inquisitor Opalite, ordered directly by her majesty White Diamond herself, I am here to assist all Homeworld en-devours!" Judging by how this little blue gem usually spoke it was painfully obvious this was some sort of practiced speech. When he finished Agate stood there beaming with pride as if he was waiting for some sort of praise.
The Quartz’s slim brow shot upward at the pint-sized agate’s sudden, proud declaration. Opalite? Now that was a name 7XB hadn't heard in a long time, or at least not in reference to that specific opalite, anyway. They had, of course, never met, but as 7XB was a much older gem, they had heard some of the stories. How and why did such a gem come to the Earth? That was, assuming the small gem was even telling the truth; But seeing as they had no evidence to the contrary, it would be dangerously imprudent for the Quartz soldier to assume it were not true..for now.
“You'll understand my hesitation then, Inquisitor,” they began, “the Earth is infested with..” their sharpened steel gaze cut across the Howlite, “defective gems.” Returning to the original topic at hand, 7XB relented only lightly, giving nothing other than the most basic purpose of this machine- as explained to them by the Peridots- which could not truly be considered classified information. Besides, if ever one of them turned out to be a Homeworld asset worth recovering, it would be well worth the trouble. “This is a short-range transmitter, or at least it will be once assembled.” A glance towards the rubies saw that the frantically construction would continue. “The peridots have rigged it up to broadcast a beacon throughout all the communication systems in this human settlement, 'Beach City’.” Of course it was only temporary, but it was anticipated that their piggybacking off of the existing communication waves would cause all the human transmission systems to fail catastrophically long before the device failed.
As Flurry listened she mentally noted what she heard. However, she didn't know how to leave the conversation without being awkward. She noticed that since she was on the beach all it would take was a quick trip back to the temple. She was grateful for that, she felt about to poof from having been shape shifting for so long. " You're right, I must've made a whoopsie-er, error! Apologies Mister Inquisitor! "
Flurry took this as her chance to escape. She walked as calmly as she knew how back to the temple. She had no idea if the two gems could see the temple from where they were at, and neither did she consider that possibility. She shapeshifted back into her true form and strolled right through the temple gates.
He nodded to XB, "Of course, I wouldn't expect you to take everything I say as unquestionable truth!" He didn't mention the 'defective' comment, best not to test them so soon after gaining some trust. Instead he turned and nodding along to their explanation of the equipment as if he knew exactly what they were on about. In truth he didn't have a clue about how the technology worked, but understood the basic concept, "So it is meant to send a message? What for?"
His attention was then immediately grabbed by 'Howlite', "It's fine I-" but before he could finish they had already began running off. Watching them go he noted they were heading in the direction of the Temple he had visited before, was that why they were acting strange? He turned back to XB, "They were an odd one that's for sure."
Ruby?: Oh okay, if you want to be in a thread I can make one anywhere, just let me know
