Under the calm, night Nevada sky, the gems sat under a tree on opposite sides of the dark oak wood trunk. Neithe Jade had spoken for what seemed like hours, both still thinking and processing about what happened what seemed like seconds ago with a Homeworld Sapphire who wanted them arrested and trailed. It was an experience both wanted to forget, and it gave each other a slightly new outlook on each other. Jade-01 the once who caused the problem by instagating a fight with Sapphire had begun having doubts, more specifically about how she went about her vengeance, but mostly her pent up agression that she often released on her partner. Jade-01 still felt the same as she did about homeworld, she hated every last gem who stayed with it during this period, and wanted to personally fight every last one she could find in the most painful way possible. While before, she wanted to shatter all of homeworld, it more or less came to the their leaders, as without leaders, gems could do what they pleased, whatever it is they be. She wanted homeworld to suffer, just like she did by the scientists and engineers that created her and ran the tests on her. She still held anger and resentment towards Jade-02, still not understanding why he fused with her just to escape and stop her from giving that cheeky little Sapphire what she deserves. Now, they're on the run, and even more high profile and criminalistic than they already were. She just, didn't get it, why ever show mercy to a gem like that.
Jade-01 grunted, and would speak, a nervous gasp and the sound of rustling leaves came audible as she started. "Jade-02..." She asked, in a scornful and resenting tone, with a hint of pure curiousity and concern.
"Uhm, yes, Jade-01? Is it about-" Came the nervous gem, gulping a little, but was soon interrupted.
"Yes, it is..." Jade-01 replied with a sigh. "Just, tell me. Why... Why in the stars would you ever force fusion onto me, go off running, and not even fight?! I don't get it, you just ran, and with all her fancy gem tech, that Sapphire could've just sent an entire fleet of rubies to all nearby locations to hunt us down! I could've done something to her, I could've made her keep her mouth shut, I could've... I could've shattered her! Gems like that... They don't know any better and there's no changing them.."
The gem would hit the ground, grunting and cursing to herself.
Jade-02 sat for a few seconds, twirling his little fingers around nervously, trying to think of what to say. "I- Jade... You don't understand. I was trying to safe you, no matter how strong and fearless you are, you just jump into everything without assessing the situations, it's a pure brute force method that only gets you so far. Some gem is stronger than you, and they'll shatter you. We don't know your limits, and I don't to risk that. I know how much I rag on you, and about how much I disagree with you, but you're the only gem I have, only you know what it was like for us. I'm not going to let you risk yourself because you want to shatter some random gem. Even then, I don't think you understand how bad shattering is... It's a fate worse than any tradition death, you are turning a gem into shards, their entire being, splitting them across space, lost and scared. I paid a lot more attention down in the depths of homeworld, and as far as I was told, that's what shattering truly is. To put some random gem to a fate worse than death... Doesnt that make you just like the gems you hate? You don't understand what you're truly doing, all that hatred is going to consume you one day, and I don't want to see that happen. I'm sorry for forcing to you to fuse, and forcing you to run, but to put it simply, I had to, I don't want to see you get hurt."
The other Jade would slam her fist in the ground once more and harder than before. "Oh really now?! And what do you know? Those gems can tell you stories all day, and normally, I would dismiss that kinda thing, but fine, I'll take your word for it! And even if shattering is a fate worth than death, do you think I care?? This isn't just about us, it's about all the other shit homeworld does, and all the mindless classes and glory and all that! I just don't care, not about me, not about homeworld, none of it. The only thing I remotely care about is you! Granted, while I hate everything you say, and I hate everything you do, you don't deserve to be hurt! You're so, passive, you're smart, you can remember things, you can do so much more than I can! You have no part in any war, and everything about you is perfect, and I'm just some brute just like you-"
"No I'm not!" Jade-02 interjected, slightly tearing up. "No, Jade-01, I'm not perfect, I'm not perfect at all! You look at me like I'm some calm, stoic, all knowing being, and I'm not! And I thought that when I fused you could feel my emotions. Because, when I was fused with you... I felt everything you felt, I felt the resentment you had, your pure and utter hatred... As a fusion, we don't only share bodies, but we I think we share minds! Did you notice notice, or do you just not care?! And hell, if you hate everything I do so much-" Tears had begun filling his eyes,
Jade-01 punched the tree, silencing her partner, now yelling. "And what do you know, Jade?! You sit here and try tell me facts about me, and ask about all this fusion stuff!! It's not that I don't care, I was already furious and trying to fight you to give me control, and I sure as hell felt everything you did! And honestly, I don't know what to think, I don't know what to do, everything was a mesh of emotion, and this strange, rushing feeling throughout us! And let's be real, we know nothing about each other in all truth, and I'm not sure if we even know who we are in ourselves! We know nothing!!"
Jade-01 would try to calm herself, standing up against the tree. "Maybe, I don't know, we need to go out and do something by ourselves, alone."
Jade-02, trying his best to not break down crying further, would nod. "Maybe that is what we need... Because, as you said, we don't even know who we are. But, I feel like I'm confused, and lost, and I'm not sure what so say or do..."
"So why say anything??" Jade-01, her tone still tinted with anger and fury.
There was silence, not even the sound of wind was audible. Both stared out forward in different directions, one, a pristine, but small city, the other, a large, run-down downtown city, perhaps much older than the other...
