From the places Cat's Eye had discovered in the past few years, areas populated with humans seemed the safest, although she never stayed for long. In the distance, she could see a few buildings, possibly the structures this planet's dominate species lived in. Other than that, all she could see for miles and miles were a cerulean sea, with no other land in the sight. This peninsula was the land she stood on now, with a cluster of buildings built into the dip of a cliff. Surrounded by a beach, the town seemed rather small, especially when compared to the bustling cities of Homeworld.
Homeworld... She shuddered to think of the place she formerly called home. She thought they cared about her enough, but they never came to rescue her. Pushing the empire to the back of her mind, she noticed that the land had darkened ever so slightly, and looking up at the sky itself, it was starting to turn a vibrant shade of orange. Cat's Eye took a few steps forward. Would she really go explore the town? She took a few more steps. Everything seemed calm in the town.
Just for a little while, she thought. With that decision, the gem closed her eyes, and let herself turn into a mass of light, eventually taking the form of a small, metallic gold-colored cat, the same color of her hair, with a single gemstone in the back of her neck. She barreled down the hill, towards the town. Perhaps she could take something useful from there...
The white gem wandered on the edge of the, looking to the horizon. Radiant was never a overly emotional guy, even before the accident, but now he was thinking if there could be a "cure" for him. Dismissing the idea, he instead pondered about the specimens of this town and if they could be of any use to him, when suddenly a cat with unusual coloration caught his gaze. He walked towards it, lifted it up gently (or at least tried to) and observed it. Radiant then said, with a charismatic tone:" You do not have to hide, form back to your humanoid form, I want to talk and do no harm."
"Isn't this interesting..." Onyx remarked, as she hovered above the Beach City library, with a satchel bag full of stolen books (she'd been offered a library card many a time, but she didn't quite understand what a 'library card' was, so she just continued to take as she pleased). Her wings wrapped around her, she slowly wrapped herself in shadow behind a building, and decided to watch the two interact.
It had been a long time since she'd seen other gems, but she was mostly drawn in by the white gem who was interested in the other shape shifted creature. Something about that form... and that coloration, was familiar to her. She couldn't quite grasp what, however. She shrugged, and silently eavesdropped on their conversation.
Flinching, Cat's Eye stumbled backwards. The sudden appearance of another gem had startled her, especially that, for one, she was in a town populated by humans, and two, the gem was now attempting to communicate with her. She quickly scanned the gem's outfit, mainly trying to look for the symbol of a diamond on his body. When she could not find one, Cat's Eye was a little relieved. Hoping that his claims was true, she glanced around, and let herself turn back into her normal form. The now-humanoid Gem was face-to-face with the unfamiliar gem.
"O-Okay..." she said, feeling a little intimidated by the white gem. She gulped. "Who are you?" Cat's Eye asked, wanting to get on his good side... just in case. However, she still felt uneasy, like she was being watched, although she didn't know why...
Radiant saw how cautious, maybe even scared this gem was, but he could hopefully calm her. However, her gold-yellow color reminded him of his past. Not that it would matter, he did not have hard feelings about it, infact he did not have any feelings about it, when suddenly out of nowhere, he felt that someone was there, a third spectator. Keeping that in mind, he finally, breaking the silence, said, with a very frienly tone of voice:"My name is white beryl, but I prefer Radiant. I wanted to go to the library, but now I found you, thus I decided that I would make myself another companion. But now, I have two questions for you, first, who are you and second, would you like to come with me?"
There was a long moment of silence before either one of them spoke again. Despite his looks, the white beryl, who went by Radiant, actually seemed pretty friendly. Cat's Eye gulped. She could trust him... right? Her nerves had calmed a little bit, seeing now that the gem truly meant no harm. "I'm Cat's Eye," she greeted. "Nice to meet you, Radiant!" She then paused. Even then, the gem didn't trust Radiant fully, worrying that he could turn on her any moment. Although the library sounded like a pretty boring place, she decided it would be for the best if she tagged along. After all, she might as well make more friends than enemies. "Sure," she started, breaking the uneasy silence between the two gems. "But, why are you going to the library?"
Judging from her appearance, tone of voice and gestures, she was one of those people, the type Radiant absolutely could not stand, a childish individual. Not only found he childish behaviour annoying, as it was the complete counterpart of his behaviour, but he also hated it because he saw it as the purest incarnation of ignorance. Nevertheless, with a sigh in his head, he responded:"I am new here on this planet, thus I need to do research on it, especially on the dominant species of this planet, called humans, could you lend me a help with that?"
They're going to the library? Onyx thought to herself inquisitively. The white gem said he had an interest in the earth, she knew about the earth, and she had an interest in him. She connected the dots in her mind. This gem may be the only connection I have to my past. I can't let this opportunity slip away from me! With a determined aura, her wings unwrapped from her and the shadows dissipated, revealing her form to the world. She stepped out into the harsh sunlight and onto the beach where they stood together, talking.
"Excuse me," she called "If you're looking for the library and any information on the earth, I am a personal expert out of hobby. I could be your guide, if you'd like." She gave a wry grin- she knew this gem could likely tell that she needed something. But in the same vein, he needed something as well. And nobody else in town- human or gem- had research on earths history, and any history relating to gems like she did. They were invaluable to each other, and with that in mind, she hoped that they could come to some form of deal, although she felt that this gem was not be trusted. He gave off a strange atmosphere of malice, so she decided to keep her guard up.
Well, wasn't that interesting Radiant thought. Not only was his suspision of a third gem watching them correct, but she also proved to be useful. Still, he did not like that she called herself his potential "guide", as he was clearly superior and could only accepted her as a partner, so he said, trying to sound as humble as he could: "I would mostly consider you as a partner, since I believe that you want something in return, isn't that so?" He looked into the sunset which reminded him of his past, but this was pushed aside by the question of whether he should allow these two (the yellow one especially) into his humble abode. He thought it was stupid, but it was about to get dark and he needed something to further his project. "Well, it seems as if it is getting dark, should we not go to my residence in order to discuss your knowledge?" He said politely while pointing at the black gem. Then, pointing to Cat's Eye, he said: "As for you, If you are lucky I might have some food at my home."
She looked at him once more, examining him completely. She knew he wasn't to be trusted, especially on his own turf. But once again, she couldn't let an opportunity like this pass. If it came down to it, she could just use her abilities to escape. They were more-so intended for surprise attacks and misdirection, but she was strong with direct combat if it came down to it. It seemed to her that this individual had an air of superiority around him- the way he spoke about partnership was very pretentious in it's own way. She could take advantage of that and feed into his ego, she felt. That was likely the safest option for her to get what she wanted.
"A partnership. That sounds good to me. You seem like an extremely intelligent individual, so I may even be like more of a peasant or servant to you, so I am thankful for you allowing me to be a partner."
She looked at the shapeshifted gem. She was an enigma, but seemed mostly harmless. Who knows? Perhaps they'd be able to back each other up in this situation were it to go bad.
If Radiant could get his emotions back, then anger would be the most proper one in this case. What did she think of him, some sort of dumb peasant who would fall for this trick? He went off to the side of the hill, seemingly inspecting something, then turning his head to the gem that insulted him just a moment ago and spoke, without any fake emotions, but whit his true, static voice: "Do you really think you can manipulate me with such a poor tactic and for that matter, do you honestly presume that I am some mad narcicist?" He said, before leaning on the stone wall of the hill and whispering: "I have lost myself long ago and it will stay that way." He wandered off into the town before saying:"Well, I am not without guilt I presume, where are my manners, I haven't even introduced myself properly, I am White Beryl, but I prefer Radiant. And you are?"
Cat's Eye opened her mouth to reply to Radiant's question, but then, she was interrupted by the black gem unannounced arrival. She jumped, and her head whipped around to face the mysterious figure. She had remained silent while the two other gems conversed, but now, with the white beryl's decision to not accept the black gem's guidance, she immediately spoke up, turning around to face Radiant. "What are you doing?!" she snapped, starting to lose her temper. "If you're looking to learn about Earth, she could actually help you!" She took a few steps in his direction. "Even IF she isn't trustworthy, isn't it better to listen to what she has to say?" she queried, oblivious to the black gem's true intentions. Cat's Eye crossed her arms, eyebrows lowering ever-so-slightly as her anger towards Radiant continued to grow.
She glanced over her shoulder at the black gem, trying to see if she reacted to any of this, and looked back in the white beryl's direction shortly after.
As Radiant heard the screams of Cat's Eye, saying that he should accept the black gems offer, he turned back to them and spoke up, trying to regain his illusion of voice by sounding amused:"I never said that I do not accept her offer, I was just... disappointed. Anyways, I need to disappoint you by saying that my actual home is in empire city, so if we walk, we should be there by, let's see..."
As he calculated he looked to Cat's Eye, confirming the judgment he had at the beginning as well as looking to the black gem. She appeared to be helpful, even after her botched attempt of manipulating her, but maybe their partnership could really accomplish something.
"Oh..." Cat's Eye murmured, feeling a little upset by misinterpreting what Radiant had said. "Sorry..." she said a little louder, although she doubt the white beryl could hear her. Despite this, her anger had soothed ever so slightly from hearing that he had never declined the third gem's offer. However, it was his next sentence that concerned her. She knew that Empire City was a major human city, despite never being there herself. Surely, they would be used to seeing a gem or two running around.
While Radiant was calculating how long it would take to get there, she looked back at the mysterious black gem, who was still silent, and took a few steps towards her. "I'm Cat's Eye," she introduced, with a little irritation in her voice from her recent misunderstanding. If they were going to be working together, they might as well get to know each other.
Onyx sighed. This hadn't really gone to plan for her at all!
"I apologize for attempting to manipulate you. I'll be honest, I'm a tad desperate."
"I am Onyx," she began, looking towards both the gems. "Cat's Eye is correct. While I did try to win you over, I can still be of help. And you can still help me as well. What I'm asking for isn't a lot, but we'll get to that later on."
"Also, we don't need to worry about walking to Empire City. I'd much rather go in style."
Onyx spun around, and the distinctly two-part cracked gems on her hands glowed a dark hum. Shadows unfurled from the gems and wrapped around her arms up to her back, and from there spurted two grand black wings.
"The beginning to any successful partnership is trust," "Can you both trust me to take you there safely? And can I return said trust? I won't lie, I'm a bit desperate."
