Sapphire explored the town with her friends, Junidite, StampyQuartz, and Blue Peridot. It was a day that all the humans were inside, not paying attention to the windows outside of which the four gems strolled. Sapphire wore her warmest boots to prevent her water sensitivity from freezing her and causing her to poof in the snow. "The fuss about these monsters is real this week. I wonder what it's all about," Sapphire said. "Probably googlies," Stampy said. "Corruption's not an issue. We'll be fine," Juni said. Peridot remained silent. All this corruption talk was spooking him. He had no weapon, anyway. Juni's killer instinct said Homeworld was near. Sapphire felt it too. The hairs on the back of her head straightened. "Do you feel that?" Sapphire said. Juni nodded. Peridot said, "Feel what? The freezing Ice? The chill going up your spine?" Sapphire hit her gem. "The instinct that someone from Homeworld is nearby," she said. "Oh," Peridot said.
Padparadscha didn't often come to this side of Earth. It was deep into enemy territory, rife with troubles around every corner; it made her nervous to dispatch to a location even near this one. She had no such sense that there were other gems in the vicinity, but rather, an over-current of anxiousness that kept her alert as she stepped over the snow laden earth. The mission was simple; to gather more evidence. But on evidence gathering missions she'd deployed on in the past, something always managed to go awry. Her and her bodyguard moved with caution, between areas of cover, and making sure their tracks weren't obvious.
6UE too had no internal radar to alert her to the presence of others; she instead spotted them with her own two eyes as she scanned the street. Her eyes narrowed at the gaggle of gems traipsing around out in the open, seemingly without much covert action, and realized they must've been the enemy-- why else would they seem so carefree in enemy territory? "Your clarity," she whispered, ducking behind a building with the sapphire following closely after her. For the purple quartz, this would be one of her last field missions before she went back to guarding doors, for the time being anyway; perhaps if she performed well enough it would be cause for the sapphire to change her mind. But, she didn't count on it, leaving those sore thoughts to the wayside, she focused on preparing herself for whatever would come.
The sapphire tapped the glimmering bracelet on her wrist, bringing up her holopanel and her evidence reel; anything that happened from this point out would be recorded. "Did they see us?" She asked quietly.
Juni's eyes widened. "Someone's definitely here," she said. Stampy looked around. "I heard someone. They were talking about... Being seen or something like that," he said. "It has to be Homeworld!" Sapphire said. Juni nodded. Peridot remained silent. All this talk about the team's common enemies was creeping him out. Juni all of a sudden stopped, then backed up, then looked around, then moved around until she felt something in her chest, and cringed. "Okay, someone's DEFINITELY here," she said. Sapphire walked around at the same spot, looking around stuff. Her muscles tensed as she looked around each corner-and that's when she saw her. "A Padparadsha Sapphire!" Sapphire jumped. "An an amethyst... She backed up. She didn't know what to do, run fight or stay calm? It's just a sapphire and an amethyst, part of her said. But another part of her said, get outta here! She didn't know what to do. "Um, hi? I-I-I'm..." she trailed off. Would she lie, or be brave? "I'm purple sapphire," she said without thinking. Crap! What if they were from Homeworld? If they knew of the unknown variant, they would pose much more of a threat! Well, if they found out how to create a Purple Sapphire, anyway. Fight or flight?
It seemed that, despite the effort that had gone into staying concealed, they had been found. The impending, ever louder voices told Padparadscha not only that they had been unable to evade detection, but that there were many more enemies here than was sensible to try to deal with-- the two of them would most definitely have to make a break for it. Her midriff twisted as her nerves lit up; had she cornered herself again? She cast a side-eye to 6UE, whose muscles wound with tension at each footstep through the crunching snow.
Then, both Pink Court loyalists jumped as a tall purple gem and her comrades rounded the corner onto them. She hardly had time to think of a strategy or run before the gem...introduced herself? For a moment, Padparadscha was stunned and confused, her eyes fluttered as she tried to put together the situation, but she had been in debacles like this before. 6UE stood by for orders, her eyes bouncing over each stranger as she sized them up-- she hoped there was a way this situation could be saved, or the two of them might end up on the missing gems list.
The sapphire's hunched shoulders sunk as she allowed herself to become more relaxed. This was to the surprise of Amethyst, who couldn't let her guard down just because these gems were trying to make what seemed to be idle talk. The shorter gem looked up at the purple sapphire, giving a light smile, "Ah, I hadn't expected to come across a member of the aristocracy here. I'm surprised you've recognized me," She gestured to the gemstone on her throat,"There aren't many of us padparadscha. I can't say I've ever seen a Purple Sapphire for my own eyes. Truly a pleasure to make your acquaintance," For now, she would skip giving her full preamble, it wasn't worth giving out her true identity to this group. Her hands clasped behind her back, her evidence reel following behind her as she stepped out into the open. "An impressive entourage you have. I prefer to keep mine conservative, as you can see. Better for my line of work," She gestured toward the seven-foot quartz lumbering behind her. "What brings a gem of such rarity to this place?" The sapphire tilted her head slightly as she made her inquiry.
6UE's nerves churned and sparked like an electrical fire, she couldn't afford to make another mistake, especially not in a tense situation like this. She followed in each step that Padparadscha took, her hand hovering near the gem embedded in her hip.
Sapphire realized her mistake. She'd been taken for a member of Homeworld, that's for sure. She turned around, making a motion at Stampy to run somewhere, ShapeShift to look like a corrupted gem, and pretend to attack. He nodded and ran off, saying, "I think I saw something." A few seconds later a monstrous looking gem appeared. "Uhh, Juni?" she said, trying to sound scared but failing due to her victories against corruption. Juni looked around and jumped. "AHHHHHH, ITS A CORRUPTED GEM!!!" she screamed, also failing to sound convincing. She ran behind cover, and Stampy ran after her. Sapphire summoned her bow and drew, but then Stampy tackled her. He picked her up and dragged her away, something no corrupted gem would do. The act wasn't very convincing at all, and the two gems they had met would probably know it was an act. After getting away to a safe place, Stampy returned to his real form and sat down. "Oh, that wasn't convincing at all. I don't think we pulled it, this isn't good," he said. The others agreed. "At least we got away," Sapphire said. "Guys!" Peridot yelled. Everyone jumped. "Oh my Diamond, you scared me!" Stampy said. Sapphire saw a table and a cloth, thinking of an idea to hide in case they were followed. She had an idea. "Guys, hide under those tables! I'll cover them in cloth," she said. The hiding spots were obviously made to hide in, but it was their only hope of not being found having cornered themselves. Knowing she couldn't get on the ground because of her sensitivity to water, she hid behind an object. Another horrible hiding spot, but it would do.
Padparadscha had hoped to have a civil conversation, pry more evidence out of these gems if possible, but what happened next was truly strange. One of her brows quirked as the quartz among Purple Sapphire's entourage left, then returned having taken another shape. The other gems began to put on what seemed to be a show; the sapphire hadn't needed her truth sense to see this was some kind of act, but the goal of it had flown over her head. Her slender brows pulled together, and she tried to make sense of the gems' charade. It seemed they were making an escape, which in all honesty, was a best case scenario for Padparadscha and 6UE.
6UE had been utterly confused, and her eye twitched at the green gem's scream. She had to ask herself, what in the name of the Diamonds was going on? Both baffled Pink Court gems watched as the group made their exit, and while at one point in her past she might have made to pursue them, Padparadscha had been in enough fights on Earth to know that it was better to let them go than to try to engage them in combat. The risk factor was simply too great.
"Well," Padparadscha scoffed, and glanced to 6UE,"Earth truly is unpredictable,"
"You can say that again...I thought for sure that situation was going to nose-dive," Amethyst scratched the back of her neck,"What now, your clarity?"
The small aristocrat swiveled on her heels, and continued her careful scoping of the human settlement, but back in the way they'd come from,"Well don't let your guard down yet 6UE. They'll most likely alert their comrades of our presence. It would be best to make haste back to the ship with what evidence we have. It's enough to identify each of them and determine whether they need a rescue or a termination dispatch," The sapphire spoke quietly as she made her way, walking passed a series of peculiar human furniture items, covered in cloth-- but she wasn't particularly scrutinizing it as she had determined to make her own escape,"Keep an eye on our six; the only thing my sense was able to determine was that it was some sort of ruse, and I'm sure even you could've determined as much," As her patron spoke, 6UE turned to keep a careful eye on what was going on around them, her eyes were drawn to the tables, but she didn't dwell long enough in the area to really come to any conclusion. The loyalists simply kept walking.
"Okay, we're clear," Sapphire said. The group stepped out to find the two gems walking out. "We should follow them," Juni said. She felt something in her gem, but she did not want to use her power. Sapphire agreed with this, she had a good feeling. "Get their attention back," she said. She didn't want the gems to leave just yet. No, she wanted to see if this error could be fixed. Maybe introducing herself wasn't a mistake at all? She hoped she had the right idea this time. Her chest was burning with remorse, guilt, and the feeling that the paddy sapphire was the beginning of a new ally, if not a new Survivor. Was she right this time? "Que the loud noise?" Juni said. "Cue the loud noise, Sapphire said. So the loudest noises ever were sounded.
Amethyst's eyes had caught onto the gems moving into plain view just before the noise had been sounded off. "Trap!" She blurted, swiveling on her heels to face the other gems; this kicked the sapphire's nerves into high-gear, she too whirled around to face the enemy. Then, the grating noise blasted over the empty street, "Agh," 6UE exclaimed, and ducked for cover. "Diamonds!" Padparadscha couldn't hear herself as she raced to take shelter as well. Neither Pink Court loyalist had any idea what that sound meant or where it really came from other than the direct knowledge that it was produced by the rebel gems they'd tried to leave behind. She knew it was too good to be true, to think that there wouldn't have been a trap sprung, and now she knew they had some kind of sound based ability at their disposal. The last time she'd been confronted with a sound-based ability, she'd had to get her whole ship repaired; there was a real danger felt by her as she and 6UE hid from the enemy gems. The amethyst quartz tapped her gem and conjured her falcata, and Padparadscha took the moment to gather charged particles from the ether, to create a formless mass of plasma, bright white and hot-- ready to come to their defense if needed. "Keep moving, we can't afford to get cornered," Padparadscha prompted as she slipped down an alleyway, and emerged closer to the boardwalk. Amethyst covered her retreat, back peddling for a moment before flipping around to rush after her employer.
"HEY!!!" Sapphire yelled. "WE DONT MEAN ANY HARM!!!" She had to yell over the noise."Peridot, stop!" she said. "WHY!?" he said. "They either think we are sounding the alarm, or blasting random stuff at them," she said. Peridot agreed and stopped blasting the Noise. Being pretty fast, Sapphire walked up to the racing Padparadsha and tapped her shoulder. Before this new arrival could cast the plasma into Sapphire's gem, she said, "Did you want to talk?" Being a kind gem even in emergency, she always asked what was desired of others. The conversation would really happen this time- if the new arrival wanted to have a conversation. She felt this was the right thing-she hard something about getting away with the evidence, so why not give them the evidence they needed?
The Pink Court investigator didn't have the proper confirmation to tell whether or not the purple sapphire had been genuine in her claim that she and her entourage didn't mean any harm. Aside, it wasn't sensible or safe to yield to her enemy over mere words. Though, it seemed she'd run out of choice in the matter; Purple Sapphire was extraordinarily quick. With terrifying speed, the gem had somehow managed to evade reaction from her bodyguard as well as herself, slipping passed any defenses she'd mustered within seconds. Rarely had she seen gems move with such speed; having her shoulder tapped by this menacing presence paralyzed her.
6UE too had froze, her falcata gripped in her hand so tightly her knuckles were turning white, eyes-wide as she saw the blur of the enemy appear before she could react at all. How could such an enemy be countered? Was there any hope for them to get out of here without being taken prisoner? Was this her last mission, period? As her mind fumbled through denial and grief for this situation, the purple sapphire continued to baffle both of the loyalist gems.
"Talk?" The sapphire scoffed, plasma whirling around her and preparing to defend-- she'd already made her attempt at prying, and it was met with a confusing, staged escape, followed by a trap whose nature eluded her. Now the purple gem wanted to talk? Padparadscha couldn't help but to feel her dignity insulted; as far as she was concerned, an aristocratic sapphire, purple or otherwise, should know better than to push around an equal in such a manner,"Pray tell, Purple Sapphire, do I have any choice in the matter?" Her eyes flicked over the enemy's expression, trying to ascertain whether this gem was being genuine and truthful, but it was incredibly difficult to tell with such a strange series of events unfolding around her. "You must realize, from my perspective, this is an affront!" Her tone was commanding, tinged with a certain haughtiness. She tried to take advantage of the fact that Purple sapphire had separated herself from the rest of her entourage, and continued to back up toward the boardwalk. Provided the rest of them weren't supernaturally fast, perhaps this situation could play into her favor.
Meanwhile, 6UE kept her eyes trained on the purple sapphire, waiting for the moment to strike, to save her patron from the potential danger of this situation...but she wasn't sure if she could react fast enough, every passing second was mired in tension.
"Please," Sapphire said. "I'm sorry." She meant it. She did not mean harm, period. Hoping that the new arrivals would finally understand, she continued. "I'm sorry that I scared you, I'm sorry that you thought I was setting a trap, I'll tell you the truth. I am Purple Sapphire, leader of the Survivor tribe. We mean no harm to those who do not mean harm to us, and I truly apologize for scaring you. Can you ever forgive me?" She said. The sound in her voice became saddening as she said "I truly apologize for scaring you." She looked at the others, who approached her slowly. The look in her eyes was hopeful, though she was trying not to cry.
There was a moment of pause as the two Pink Court gems tried to put together what was going on. The two of them looked at each other, then at the sapphire. 6UE didn't believe a word that was being said, her eyes flicked nervously between the sapphires; looking to the peach one for orders, and the purple one for any sudden moves. Then, she momentarily glanced around, looking for signs of the rest of the entourage.
Padparadscha, on the other hand, now had the vocal and visual cues to see that Purple Sapphire was being genuinely honest. It still threw her through a loop, however; what possible motive would this gem have to speak with a gem who had pinned her as an enemy? The Pink Diamond insignia was plain to see on both her and 6UE's uniform, though she supposed she had seen rebels in uniform before. This group, the Survivors as Purple Sapphire deemed them, were clearly some sort of rebel splinter group if they weren't directly attached to the Crystal Gems.
The aristocratic detective gave a huff, and tilted her head as she continued to size up this other sapphire. It was peculiar to see one so tall, and combat ready, but Padparadscha herself was an exception to the rule where it came to sapphires, so she didn't judge."Perhaps you can be forgiven," She began, raising a brow,"But there are conditions. I will not be goaded by your entourage, and if we are to speak, I would like to do so in a less...conspicuous location," She glanced around, and wondered if there was anywhere around here that would be suitable. She refused to be taken to any kind of base of operations by this enemy, nor did she suppose that the Survivor tribe would want to meet her at her ship. She motioned for Purple sapphire and Amethyst to follow her as she swiveled on her heels, and made for the boardwalk, until her small feet tapped onto the oaken planks.
6UE couldn't believe that her patron was actually going for it. She pressed her lips together, and glowered, thinking her job was harder than it had to be, especially since she was being phased out.
As sapphire followed Paddy and her entourage to the boardwalk, she thought that it was wonderful to say sorry to a Homeworld gem and be forgiven. That had never happened before-it was like a miracle to her. "Listen, I know you want answers. Let me say what was happening back there," she said. "I truly thought introducing myself was a mistake. I did the whole act thing to save myself and my tribe, because the other times we had unexpected visitors there was hundreds more than we thought. She wasn't lying. Hundreds of thousands of Homeworld gems had hidden in town, then when she found one the whole army advanced on her. That's why she trained her comrades to fake a corruption attack and run away-to be safe. "When the noise sounded, we were trying to get your attention," she continued. "We have nothing to do with the Crystal Gems, we care only about freedom and survival." She wasn't lying, still. She told the whole truth. "We don't have specific roles for specific gems-they choose their role," she said. The Survivors sounded like a mix of Homeworld and the Crystal gems. "Do you have any other questions?"
Her eyebrows floated upward as Sapphire freely shared information with her about the organization she had founded. It further surprised her to hear to what length her opponent didn't want to be associated with the Crystal Gems. Did this mean she had misjudged the situation? That appeared to be the case from this explanation. "Hmm," Her eyes slid out toward the beach, and swept across the landscape around them. The peach sapphire kept walking along, letting both her holopanel and her orbs of light follow her as she made her way, with her bodyguard close in tow."You know, Purple Sapphire, we live in troubled times," She commented, then gestured around them,"Earth, a titanic project to be sure, many perspectives to consider," The short pink detective kept her pace as they neared a space further from town, but closer to where the ship had been hidden. The noise had drawn a considerable amount of attention from the locals; humans began to roam out onto the street, searching for what had been the cause of the racket. She drew the plasma back to her, and it faded from sight.
She had no intention of entertaining rebels or giving in to demands. But if this gem by chance wasn't a rebel, or if she had otherwise read the situation wrong, then she was willing to hear her out to an extent. The other sapphire seemed to be telling truths, and being more compliant than most gems she met on Earth, it made her job a bit easier. "Well, I suppose I'm wondering where it is you stand?" Padparadscha asked, looking more directly at the purple aristocrat.
"Eh, sort of nowhere..." Sapphire said, chuckling nervously. She used her light to reveal she was a light-based gem. "Our affiliation is simple-we fight, so we live," She said. "Also, if you're curious how I ran so quickly, it's because of my natural speed plus the momentum from the hill. Makes me go much faster than I actually can." Sapphire was smart, having lived her entire life on Earth. She had never been to Homeworld. She didn't want to go there anytime soon though-she'd either be shattered or enslaved. She didn't want to be given a specific role, she wanted to stay free. She didn't want Homeworld to know how she was made, that would be the destruction of Earth. She didn't want her shards at the Diamond's disposal, either. That would also be the destruction of Earth. Her comrades walked over, seemingly careless about the humans. The humans didn't notice either. They just headed back inside. "Uh, hi? Assuming we're friends now?" Juni asked. "Before I forget, let me introduce you to my friends. This is Junidite," Sapphire said, motioning towards Juni. "This is StampyQuartz." She motioned toward Stampy. "And this is Blue Peridot." She motioned towards Peridot. "Wait, are we actually being friends?" Peridot said. "Is this a good idea, giving Homeworld info?" Sapphire glared. She didn't want Peridot to make them believe that they weren't trusting them. Besides, this was just friendly chat.
