Disclaimer: This encounter takes a place directly a year prior to the great rebellion on Earth. This takes place on Home World. Enjoy
Had it been him, it would have been completely different. Had it been his partner things would have just stayed different as well. And that's what happened, things remained different thanks to his, "Partners Sacrifice." Had that girl not gotten in the way he would have simply dodged out of the way or blocked it like a true champion, but no, instead the partner was destroyed in the process by blocking a beam of light; which miraculously hit her square in the belly where the gem was. Not that she'll be missed, but her annoying voice will always be stuck in his head, especially that tune she sung on and on everyday.
The transport ship had dropped unto the landing pad, engineers and the like going towards the ship to make sure it wasn't damaged and the likes. Though the ship itself had only scratches asteroids of the such could have hit it and knocked anything loose on the inside and create future problems. It had been a whole year since he had been back... And the ship he left on his last mission had seen better days, even the many scratches and dents made this simple transport look luxurious. He was not one for engineering, no, he had no interest in it but figured out how to repair many things his personal ship had.
Ignis was one of few gems who worked alone, mostly. As of recent he had hunted a small group of run-away gems, one of them being pretty strong, but as usual, prey can have many surprises. What surprised Ignis was the fact his new partner was that willing to throw herself out. Previously on a has planet he had a partner who was a ruby; cannonfodder, so he kept her on the ship to help keep the place clean or little other things. He had eliminated his targets till one was standing in which Ignis took the privilege in fighting face-to-face... That was a mistake.
The best way to describe his appearance would be, "Black jacket, blood hair and plenty of attitude." Many who knew the man knew that's the best way to describe him, but they were all gone unfortunately.
Ignis could not get close enough to land any blows or get time to use his fire, not that he wanted to, he was playing with his meal. However what gave him the opening was when a particular ruby had jumped in front of a pretty weak blast of energy, to Ignis's perspective. This shattered her in the process and while the gem was recharging Ignis took that chance to share his flame... Albeit the other may not have liked it. He did not grieve but felt rather sorry for the ruby, so before he left the planet he made a burial for her, unorthodox for gem-kind so he thinks.
"No more missions Ignis, that's an order.. Get some rest." A male voice said firmly.
No one else seemed to hear it but the flame quartz himself, that could be due to the ear piece he had or he could state that, "I'm crazy!"
"Ah, Ciris! Been some time since we spoke. Anymore I get orders through direct messaging but never a, "How are you?" Or a, "What are your plans for the day?"
Surprised to hear that you are well. How goes it by the way? Heard you stressed over my departure the last two years!" Ignis replied with a chipper tone, something that would tell Ciris he was not in the mood.
"Sorry kid," Ciris said, "I have a lot on my plate, never have time to go on that picnic Ragnus suggested."
Ciris was a well known member of HomeWorld, much so that he became guardian and commander of the Aura Quartz, a good politician, a military officer under Yellow Diamond, and a military investigator. Ciris was a busy man, and Ignis knew it, which is why he left for a year to get out of his commanders hair. Hence why he would be speaking with Ignis, but not in person. Why Ciris would bring back Ignis was beyond the Flame Quartz, perhaps HomeWorld's rulers caught whiff of a missing gem.
"Indeed, now tell me why the hell I'm taking, "a break." I've been doing my job: hunting, scouting and clearing so why pull me in now?" Ignis's voice turned from chipper to annoyed rather quickly. Other gems passing by glanced at the quartz as if he were crazy, perhaps he could've passed as a crazed person for wanting to remain off planet.
The Flame Quartz heard a short sigh, followed by a curse or two. Getting pissy with another higher officer might be one thing, that individual would get a slap on the wrist. Get pissy with Ciris and that individual gets the snot kicked out of them and sent to a hole for days on end. In other words Ciris does not take kindly to back talk nor rude tones, and certainly not from one of his soldiers.
"Ignis here is the deal," The commander began in a deep and threatening tone, "First I pulled you because I was ordered to, no choice in that matter. Secondly you cannot just drive yourself to the ground doing this, we are not machines, you need to rest. And thirdly, don't you ever speak to me with that tone, I will hang you by your toes over a cliff. I am you're commanding superior, to me you are just a doll in my game of house, so you better watch with how you talk and check your tone. Do we have an understanding?"
The Flame Quartz was ready to huff but held it in since he was getting scolded, it wouldn't help matters to show more attitude at this point, not when a commander was getting into him.
"Yes sir." Ignis said.
"Good," Replied Ciris, "Now I have a lot of work that needs to get done. Socialize, sleep, do something other than work. You deserve it." And like that the line had cut off, leaving the gem standing in the middle of a walkway.
It took a minute for Ignis to start walking again, he hasn't had proper rest in a long time it seemed. Sleeping is easy enough though and he could easily keep up training, but it was socializing that he was not good at. Ignis was not like a lot of gems where he worked in a squad. To thin it down, Ignis was very picky with who joined his team and who he spoke to, sure, that ruby was his partner but that was not his choosing. The "zealots" of HomeWorld seem to push gems into his work, the most unwelcome being ruby as... well... they are more cannonfodder.
Ignis did not know what he was going to do, he served as both a hunter and scout for his people, yet he never spent time with them and being one of the few Aura Quartz left, it just kinda makes him feel nervous about making niceties with gems not his own. Nervous was a word he did not like, straight, blunt, to the point and nothing but work, work, and more work. Perhaps he did deserve a break for a change, but he had only hoped to get off the planet quickly.
The Flame Quartz was not used to simply sitting down at a local pub, or going into politics or even talking about weather on another planet. Nope, he simply continued to wander down the path of a dissident, more so a lone wolf.
