The sky arena was deathly silent. Not an animal stirring, not a gust of wind blowing, not even a Gem was moving. Topaz sat idly in one of the many rows in the sky arena, still and quiet and she stared out among the pristine yet unused marble of Gem construction. She had helped craft this place after all, an order directly from her Diamond.
"Your Diamond's orders are clear, Topaz. You are to assist in the building of an arena - and she wants this one floating."
She didn't like building it. She didn't like it when it was finished. She did it anyway - a loyal Gem to Homeworld's cause. A place made for battle, the horrible thing devolved into a 'sport'. Quartzes perhaps liked it - it was part of them and what they were made for. That didn't mean Topaz had to. She sighed, breaking the veil of silence and leaned back further into her seat. This place had long ago been discovered by the Crystal Gem rebels, and it was dangerous simply being here - one could warp in in at moment. Regardless, she stayed. Watching.
Flurry had found that the Sky temple granted her access to many places, as it brought her to a high elevation. Her cloud granted her horizontal flight, but it could not move vertically. Now she was able to fly for several miles to find floating gem structures. She had just come upon a sort of arena. Flurry approached the arena and dropped down on one of it's edges, unable to see it's inhabitants. She wandered around until she noticed a warp pad. She noted that she could get back here if she wanted to as long as she had the coordinates of the pad. This would make it easier for her to travel even farther next time. She walked around a pillar and saw a gem in red armor. She couldn't tell what this gem's faction was, but didn't take long to find out. Unless certain she was dealing with a homeworld gem Flurry would not hesitate to make herself known.
"Hi there! " She called, waving at the gem. Her star on her shirt was clearly visible, identifying her as a crystal gem.

Topaz least expected to be broken out of her melancholy by a Gem who had seemingly come from nowhere - as she was rather sure the warp pad hadn't been activated. The traitorous logo of the Crystal Gems was brazenly displayed on her... shirt - an odd choice for Gem clothing - and appeared to have an appearance humans would call 'young'. Her Forge armor was hiding her identity currently, but before long that disguise could be shattered, especially if the other Gem had companions with her.
"Greetings." Topaz called out in response, shifting in her spot. "To what reason do I owe having an unexpected visitor such as yourself?"
Perhaps, if she found out Topaz was part of Homeworld (and a high ranking one, no less), they would be forced to fight. Poetic then that her first combat experience in decades would take place upon an abandoned arena.
"Umm..I'm sorry I don't really know..." Flurry said, putting a finger on her chin as she tried to answer the question. She giggled and rubbed the back of her head. "I was jus' kinda walking...um..flying by and I saw this arena thing. So I decided to stop for a rest!"
Flurry walked over and sat beside her on the bleachers. She kicked her legs idly as they were too short for the seat. She held out one of her hands which was no bigger than a plum.
"Hey! My name is Flurry...well I'm a white spinel, but I like to be called flurry. What's your name miss?" She asked with a grin as she waited for a handshake. She knew they were going to be best friends!

"Uhm..." Topaz was, to put it lightly, a bit taken aback by the Spinel's attitude. She seemed to be a bit... careless. Knowing nothing about Topaz, she had strode right on up, taken a seat, and offered a handshake. By size alone, Topaz could have easily squashed the smaller Gem had she harbored violent tendencies. "I go by my Gem type. Imperial Topaz." Taking the offer of a handshake, Topaz lightly gripped the smaller palm with great care and returned the gesture in full. "Pardon, but your method of arriving here has me quite perplexed. You said you... flew here, correct? I had not know many Gems to be capable of such movement, if one does not include super jumps."
Flurry giggled as she shook the larger gem's hand. She loved making new friends, no matter who they were. The Topaz seemed uncomfortable. Topaz asked her about how she reached the arena. Flurry grinned as she realized how insane of an accomplishment that would sound given that she had not used her power. She had always seen her power as mundane, this flight was more of a stretched exploit of her powers. Out of context it seemed incredible.
"Oh, yeah you see I can fly forward and back and side to side but not up and down...so I came from another floating island a long way...that way!" She said, pointing to the south. "It took me a few hours to get here...I even almost fell asleep...that was scary..."
Flurry paused. "No offence, but Imperial Topaz is a lot to say...is 'Topaz' okay?"

Topaz hesitated once more. She had seldom let even her Bismuths call her just by 'Topaz' - that was an entirely different type of Gem. Perhaps if allowing this concession were to further the time she had sans conflict, it would be worth it. Shrugging, she replied: "I suppose you may. I see by your... symbol that you are a Crystal Gem. Have you any... allies nearby?" The question, without a doubt, came off as strange, but the knowledge if the Spinel chose to reply could dictate her next course of action - be it fleeing or preparing to fight should the need arise. Not that it would, most likely, if the other Gem was alone - as Topaz was sure she could poof here within seconds if need.
"Oh um... no I came here myself." Flurry said bluntly, considering the question weird but answering right away. She then considered asking the same question. She had no idea who this gem was. Why were they asking about more crystal gems? Were they in danger?! Was a homeworld gem hidden somewhere nearby?! Why would they ask about crystal gems unless they wanted help? Someone had to be there, someone had to be after this poor gem. How horrible! "Oh! I-is somebody after you?! I'm sorry I don't have any buddies to come help, but we can hop on my cloud and fly away!"
She panicked, suddenly this nice meeting with a stranger could be dangerous. Making friends was no fun like this!

"That is not necessary. No person, Gem or otherwise, is 'after me'. ...Not yet at least." Topaz stood up abruptly. The longer and closer this Spinel was in close proximity to her, the most likely was to see the subtle but distinct diamond insignias that dotted her armor. "In fact... I was about to leave. Through the warp pad. So you could perhaps use your... cloud, was it, to continue exploring. Not here." The last thing Topaz needed was the Crystal Gems knowing where she was and rigging this warp pad with surveillance. This was one of the only places she could go to be truly alone. Slowly making her way down the steps, she turned and gave one last half-hearted wave to the Gem.
Flurry looked confused. She simply watched Topaz for a while, unable to process what had happened until she was already halfway down the stairs. Flurry gasped and started running down after her. She grabbed Topaz's hand with both of hers.
"Wait a minute! I thought we just became friends, and you're gonna leave?! I thought we could like, go make sand castles, or go to beach city and have some fries...or icecream! I don't really care what we do... but I can explore later..." Her voice trailed off. She looked at Topaz again with a pained expression. She didn't want to ask the next question. "I-If...you're not in trouble...then why did you ask me that question... if nothing is wrong why did you want to know and then decide to leave!?"

"Look you seem... nice. Perhaps it'd be best if we just acted like we never saw each other, alright?" Topaz firmly, but gently, pulled away her hands. "I apologize if this seems abrupt and I have hurt your... feeelllings? Regardless you must believe me when I say I must leave." Topaz's holo-communicator went off, glowing and releasing a loud whine - causing the red Gem to stiffen in response. Her hand flew down, slapping the 'ignore' button as she shifted nervously in place. Why would somebody CALL her at this time when she had made it very clear she was out on a 'PRIVATE' excursion. "Erm, ignore that Spin- Flurry. Now then! As I said, I must be going. Many... important things to do, yes."
Flurry's lips trembled as Topaz took her hand out of her own. Flurry looked at the floor and sniffed, her body shuddering. Then it came. Quiet, sad whimpers escaped in gasps as Flurry's face was wet with tears. She was trying to hold it in, but it was a losing battle.
"I...I can't pretend we never met... I just w-wanted to be friends!" She wiped her eyes with her forearm and tried to stop shaking. She looked up at Topaz with sad eyes. "Wh-what do you have to do? I-I don't understand... we just met... and you never want to see me again? ...I don't understand..."
She sat down and curled up into a little ball. "I-If it's for work I get it... but I don't see why we can't be friends..."

"Because..." Topaz sighed, taking off her helmet and running a hand through her hair. "I work for Homeworld still. We're enemies, you and I. I know not how your leaders tolerate casual interaction with the enemy, but my bosses wouldn't take kindly to me not attempting to shatter you on sight for wearing that star." Topaz finished her descent, pausing to look back up. "You're nice, but naive. If I had been malicious, you'd more than likely be... not with us in this world anymore. I suggest that you exercise more caution in the future dealing with unknown people. You'll only end up getting hurt wandering about the way you do." Topaz, once more, turned around and began the slow walk back the warp pad.
"Wait I have an idea!" Flurry shouted, rubbing her eyes a bit more. Her clothing glowed and transformed, now she had a large over-sized hoodie matching the white color scheme of her outfit. The hoodie stretched all the way down to her knees. Her star-shaped barrette had been replaced by a little blue bow. She moved her arms and noticed her hands were where the elbows should be, causing the sleeves to flop as she wiggled her arms. She waddled over to Topaz in her new outfit. "S-See!? I could just wear this instead when we hang out! There's no star so nobody will ever know that I'm a crystal gem! This way I can be in secret okay? We can still be friends... it's not like...just because I'm a crystal gem... we can't be friends... "

"That's not how war works. And it is not what you signed up for, is it?" Topaz stated. "You went to the Crystal Gems because you believed that they and this planet are worth turning your backs on your makers for - so own it! If you find value in living on 'Earth', then you shouldn't be so quick as to offer friendship to someone like me. Homeworld, in their and my eyes alike, colonize planets with worthless life in order to sustain ourselves. I shan't change my mind so quick, and neither should you. Use the courage you had in joining your faction to stand strong and unwavering by your cause. Seeking friendship with one who so clearly strives to fight against your principals is not the way to do this." Taking off her helmet, Topaz knelt, head still slightly above Spinel at full height. "I chose my path, Flurry. You've chosen yours. Do not shed tears in the inevitability of conflict. Tell me: do you truly believe in the Crystal Gems? Are you one of them?"

Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld

Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’.
