The praise from the other Gem was not unfounded, as Topaz had quite honestly never seen a Quartz soldier move with such... grace before. The Forgemaster was now more drawn in to this entire spectacle more than she cared to admit, with her expectations of typical Quartz 'head smashing' being already surpassed by the uniqueness in both Carnelian's resistance and Phenakite's moves. The announcement that the Sapphire's bodyguard was next up caught her attention, and she already found her eyes dragging themselves back to the dueling space below, both Gems lining up in preparation for the fight. Topaz could only wait in barely contained anticipation, mind racing about what these new Gems could possibly pull out during the next fight.
Padpara squinted at the score board in order to identify this large, dark purple gem-- Lithium Quartz, someone she didn't often see, nor was she entirely sure what to expect from such a gem. The sapphire's attention went back down to the stand off between 3JJ and Lith just before the match started. Both gems were tall, burly, and wearing a simple uniform, leading the sapphire to believe this fight would test the endurance of the competitors.
Lith loosened up, while the jasper lifted her arm. With a smirk, 3JJ motioned for the other quartz to come at her, and squared her stance. Lith narrowed her eyes and grinned back at the quartz, getting prepared herself. Then, the referee swung her hand, and the two gems launched for each other; in 3JJ's hands materialized her baton, and the Lithium Quartz summoned a set of spiked knuckles, the gem's grin became more wicked as she snapped her fingers. In seconds, the ground underneath 3JJ blasted apart, the jasper's eyes went wide as she was knocked off course by the explosion, and Lith dove in to take advantage of the opening. Padparadscha jumped at turn of events, then leaned forward as she tried to keep up.
The jasper recovered just in time to slip into a spin dash, and spun around her opponent in an attempt to out flank Lithium and get a hit in before she could snap her fingers again. For now, 3JJ's intention would be to test Lith's abilities, to see where their limitations were.

The previous excitement was just starting to lose a bit of its effect, but not to the point where Topaz could call herself disinterested. This seemed more like a typical quartz match - albeit between two... 'prime specimens'. Reevaluating her current situation, it wasn't all that displeasing. Would she still rather be back at her Forge? Undoubtedly, yes, but what was assumed to be a silly distraction had taken a turn for the more interesting. She wasn't a combat Gem, despite her stature, so perhaps seeing the culture OF combat Gems would help further Topaz's understanding of them. ...While most of the other Gems present were probably more than content with a simple show of force in an arena. Perhaps not. Regardless, now was not the time to reminisce - there was a battle to watch.
Padparadscha glanced to Imperial Topaz, who seemed entirely unfazed by the explosion that had torn through the arena battlefield. The sapphire herself was shaking a little; not only worried for her teammate coming into contact with such a volatile ability, but from the sheer surprise of seeing what power Lithium Quartz had at the tips of her fingers.
The jasper had to test Lithium's limitations if the fight would be drawn out, but she would rather just end the fight quickly so she wouldn't have a chance of being blown to smithereens in the first place. As she zipped around the heavy weight contender, 3JJ tried to get around her flank-- but Lith was a limber gem despite her size, she kept her eyes on the jasper, waiting for moments before she again snapped her fingers, and the ground underneath 3JJ blasted apart, sending debris flying in all directions-- along with the Jasper who tumbled away, gravel and sand littering her hair and uniform.
Lithium already barreled toward her compromised prey, heavy feet slammed across the field but carried her with deadly momentum, a sadistic grin curling over her lips. 3JJ was taking a moment to recover from her ringing, hazy perception, staggering up onto her knees as Lith closed the distance. Padparadscha shot out of her seat, fists clenched, eyes wide as she feared this Lithium might do more than just poof her dedicated bodyguard. Then, just as Lith was upon her, 3JJ ducked to the side and swept her leg under the gem, knocking the huge opponent over with her own heavy set force.
Jasper popped up to her feet, her bluff successful but not yet her chain of attacks-- next she dove forward to restrain Lithiums huge arms. The other soldier wasn't easy to wrestle as she fought back with fresh strength still kicking, but Jasper too had a vice grip. In an attempt to get the Jasper off of her so she could get back into her combat comfort zone, Lithium snapped her fingers, unleashing a powerful blast right beneath her own back, catapulting both heavy soldiers into the air.
Much to the Lithium Quartz's chagrin, 3JJ was as stuck as super glue, and a glint shone through the creamy-orange gem's bright eyes as she took this opportunity to use momentum to her advantage. She flung her opponent down toward the ground, and dove into a spin dash, flying down with meteoric fury straight into Lith's gut, poofing the gem in a final explosion of grey stardust.
"Whew!" Padparadscha slumped back down into her seat. 3JJ took a moment to reorient herself, then reached down to grab the Lithium core.

Eyes glued on the fight, Topaz zoned out a bit as she recounted the quick chain of events. None of the fights had lasted more than a minute, the warriors seemingly built with more destruction in mind than defensive capabilities. Padparadscha's Jasper guard was certainly strong - and adaptable. Though she had been a bit too focused to care in the heat of the moment, Topaz was shocked by the seemingly out of nowhere explosion created by the Lithium. "Interesting..." she murmured quietly to herself, leaning back as the next battle was gearing to start. Several went by - all within the parameter of Topaz's prediction of less than a minute each. Once again, after the latest fighters cleared the way, the two preparing to take the field piqued her interest.
Phenakite stood opposite of 3JJ in the waiting area, and Topaz titled her head as she slightly turned to Padparadscha. "Well, this is bound to be interesting now."
The sapphire couldn't entirely relax after the combat that 3JJ had participated in; each fight put her on edge as she not only tried to learn about each gem type that presented themselves on the field, but also tried to absorb their movements, their strategies, their timing. She was not a soldier, and had never been considered the sort of gem that should be anywhere near the battlefield, yet she had found herself there numerous times, fighting alongside her teammates.
Soon she realized who it was that would be matched up next, and glanced toward Imperial Topaz as she sat, trying to seem less tense than she really was. "Oh-- interesting indeed," She took on a serious tone,"Knowing how your ally fights is a good first step in knowing how to aid and defend them in combat," There was no doubt that both combatants were competent, it was a toss up in her eyes; though this phenakite did seem to have an advantage against larger, heavier fighters, 3JJ could be quicker than she looked.
3JJ rolled her head, popping her neck and loosened her burly arms as she waited for the clearance to get at the Phenakite gem standing across from her. They'd seen each other's fighting styles, and both had fought with time to rest in between, though dealing with the Lithium Quartz's explosive technique had taken its toll on her. Despite it, she still felt ready to go; the jasper soldier shot a smirk over to her opponent, the gem on her forehead gleamed under the harsh arena light along with her glinting eyes.

Phenakite remained stoic, lip twitching downwards for but a millisecond as she prepared for combat against the Jasper. "I have observed your battles, Jasper. You appear to be a formidable opponent. Your master is the Padparadscha in the stands? I fight for Earth's Forgemaster, Imperial Topaz. Doubt has been rightfully placed in my abilities as a new Gem - and from this battle I seek to prove my worth to her. May the best combatant win." It was best to assume that the Jasper had done the same, Phenakite thought to herself. Her opponent fought skillfully with a baton and was much faster than her large stature implied. Blocking blunt force would be a bit more risky, so the shield was probably forgone. Carefully placing the starforge piece aside, Phenakite drew a dagger with a greatly curved guard from her belt - one built for parrying and quick stabs. Her falchion could be used to deflect and distract - getting hit was likely not an option. The gates opened, and Phenakite stepped onto the field.
Both Padparadscha and 3JJ listened to Phenakite as the gem spoke; Padparadscha saw a genuine, honorable warrior in those words, raising her chin a bit with some pride in the servant's decorum, though the truth sensing sapphire was sitting quite far from the arena floor. 3JJ, on the other hand, wasn't quite sure what to make of it. The jasper's lip pulled to the side, she didn't like it when gems put themselves down, even if they were a servant as she was herself-- they were all ultimately servants to the Diamonds, it was a proud thing to be able to serve-- but at any rate she didn't see any reason for doubt of this quartz knight's ability, it almost seemed to be a bluff to her.
"You trying to psyche me out?" She smirked as if to say, it wont work. As the gate dropped and Cerussite threw her hands to gesture the beginning of the match, the jasper reached up to her gem and let her baton emerge in a whirl of fiery light. Then without a moment to spare 3JJ launched forward, knowing she would have to keep the pressure on this gem. She observed the strategy in play, but her approach would be much the same; strike fast, strike hard, and hopefully avoid being sliced into ribbons by the quartz's blade work. Phenakite was lighter on her feet, a jumpy and quick fighter, marginally shorter than the jasper herself-- plus she had two bladed weapons.
The jasper's trajectory was straight for the Phenakite gem, but at the last moment, her feet would telegraph her true intention just be for she juked to the side, attempting to protect herself from the longer reaching sword, and aimed to wack the other gem's wrist to disarm her other weapon.

The Jasper was quick - but Phenakite had no plans to try and be the one to land the first strike. She braced as the orange blur sped towards her, pirouetting to the side as the Baton suddenly whipped by her physical form with a rush. She stabbed forward with her falchion, the blade tip on a deadly path toward the larger Gem's neck while she slashed simultaneously at her leg with her dagger. Even if the sword was brushed aside, the shallow cut would most likely land - not that its damage would be immediately noticeable for a Quartz soldier. "I can't fail..." her voice rang in in her mind, and she brushed it off - she wouldn't fail. Not like this.
3JJ had already anticipated that Phenakite would need to shift, which direction she would have to go in order to counter, and at what angle her sword would have to fly in this situation. As the sword plunged for her neck she had again danced to the shorter ranged side of the gem's reach and dropped, intending to sweep kick the quartz while in the midst of dodging the attack-- however, the sword had been a rather large, glinting distraction from the smaller blade that stung her; it was like being caught between a pair of scissors as she tried to accommodate for her miscalculation by ducking out of the way and tumbling around, still trying to get Phenakite a little dizzy from spinning around to catch her.
"Pch," She grimaced; a wound to her limb was a pricey one, limiting her range of movement, but the cut wasn't overly costly just yet. That sword was a huge problem, but 3JJ was pretty huge herself; without the falchion, the jasper would have the range advantage, but it seemed disarming this gem would be a risky tactic. She lunged out, going for a home-run swing on Phenakite's Achilles while she was still low and trying to recover from the blow to her leg.
Padparadscha kept her eyes on the close quarter's action, holding tension as her gaze flicked between both of the gems as they fought.

The other Quart's persistence had, admittedly, caught Phenakite slightly off guard. She fumbled in an attempt to dodge the crippling attack thrown out, only partially successful as she twisted her leg at the last moment, allowing the attack to strike more of her shin. The blow cracked against the exposed limb, dealing a heavy blow as Phenakite used the Jasper's extension to her advantage, bringing down her main weapon in a chop towards the arm that swung at her while backhanding the dagger and stabbing towards her shoulder. The blow she took was serious, but wouldn't quite count her out of a close quarters fight still. She'd be slowed, but it would hardly matter if she could use her stature to keep in low and close against the other Gem.
The sapphire grimaced herself when both fighters had taken blows to their legs; this would slow them down, but it also went to show the durability and determination of soldier gem models. Any hit like that might have very well poofed the sapphire herself, so she tried to take account of their avoidance maneuvers and defensive technique.
3JJ was now forced into a defensive position as two blades again sliced through the air toward her, and the glinting falchion became her main focus as it threatened to sever her good swinging arm. Her left grip tightened around the brightly hued bludgeoning weapon-- muscles coiled, feet twisted along with a grimace, and the baton whipped through the air, aiming to crack into the sword and parry; not only would this defend her, but the shock of the vibration through the weapon could momentarily distract her opponent, at least that was her hope.
Meanwhile, the jasper had learned well from the last chain of attacks offered up by Phenakite, and knew not to let herself be so distracted as to allow a similar maneuver to impact her again. Simultaneously with her parry, her free arm shot up like a cobra, aiming to clamp around the wrist that held the dagger aimed for her shoulder.

Things went awry much quicker than Phenakite preffered. Her dagger hand snared, tip just barely scraping the top of the Jasper's shoulder, and her main hand about to be deflected - this would easily spell the end if she didn't react. A quick glance to her opponent's face revealed her Gem was on her head - something she could take advantage of. She loosened her grip on her falchion, letting the weapon fly harmlessly out of her grasp as the Jasper's baton met no resistance. Rearing her head back, Phenakite then slammed her helemeted head into her opponents, hoping to do at the least enough damage to break her free of the death hold she was currently in. After that... well, she would figure it out.
The tense battle was close, each gem reacted blow-for-blow, though it seemed the stakes were heightened for Phenakite as she had chosen to use this arena bout to prove herself to her superiors; respectable in the eyes of the aristocratic sapphire. Padparadscha's eyes flicked to Imperial Topaz again for only a moment, wondering what the gem might think of her servant's earlier proclamation and her performance, but she looked up just in time to see Phenakite locked into a grapple with her weapon flinging into the atmosphere. It almost seemed that the jasper had secured the advantage, but the sapphire didn't speak too soon.
3JJ was winding up her next shot, gripping Phenakite's wrist with all of the constricting power she could muster, her eyes widened as Phenakite's glinting helm swung down toward her; there wasn't time to consider her options, the jasper only knew she had to protect the gemstone target set between her brows. Impulsively she actually yanked Phenakite forward, attempting to twist her arm in the process as the inevitable impact came-- 3JJ used the coiling power in her back and legs jut upward, charging her own hard skull straight up to meet with Phenakite's attack. The two gem's heads clanged together, sending some shocked gasps through the crowd as the force was so much that Jasper's grip loosened and she stumbled back, grimacing as she threw a hand over her gemcore.
For a moment, as 3JJ covered her core, a pit sank into Padparadscha's midriff-- had her servant just busted her core over an arena match? A pallor washed over her face; 3JJ was a great gem, a fantastic body guard, it would be devastating if she had to be retired over mere entertainment, or proving one's honor, whatever this was to the combatants themselves.

Phenakite was stunned by the blow, being of smaller stature as she is. This didn't mean she was oblivious to what she actually just did. She had been wearing a helmet - the Jasper had her core exposed. Phenaktie staggered back, finding it a challenge to stay upright. "I... didn't mean to do that. I just wanted- no. No excuses. Are you alright?" Struggling, Phenakite drunkenly waltzed up to the other Gem, pulling out a small packet. "Here... one of Pin- erm, our Diamond's healing packets. If its cracked at all this should help." The Jasper had fought well, and despite this being a tactic Phenakite would not hesitate to use against rebels if permitted, it wasn't worth her pride to severely damage another Homeworld soldier in a petty grudge match.
