There was no reason to turn back now, the Quartz reasoned, both figuratively and literally, the faint and familiar sounds of an activated warp crackling throughout the frigid air, the wind lashing upon their back laying the words swiftly upon their ears. The Arsenic, 2MD, something told 7XB that they weren't going to like what they discovered upon a quick search back at the Moon base. She gave off the vibe of treason if they'd ever felt it, but what she had said..in their mind the use of Padparadscha's designation was far too specific to be a coincidence, wasn't it? The trek through the snow would have been beyond arduous for a human, or even less durable gems, but 7XB was making short work of it, carving their way through the dense snow like a red-hot knife.
Truthfully, though, the Quartz gem was worried too much about that. Every interaction that they'd ever had with the sapphire, many of them treasured and held so very close to their guarded heart, was now being frantically dissected, bit by bit, searching for something they might have missed, or overlooked, beneath the surface. This only served to make their journey more and more unpleasant, but eventually they must surely find this site..assuming it ever existed.
Everything was quiet, as it usually was up here, but she felt antsy. 6UE sighed as she continued to saunter around the quarry, occasionally peering down to see what the rest of the amethysts were up to; they were mostly sixes too, her closest sisters, but she had never felt more estranged from them than now. The surreal feeling of being here, between worlds, after everything she'd done, was enough to put her on a constant edge.
Her eyes trailed up to the horizon, though she didn't think she would see anything. After the wave disrupter had been installed, there hadn't been any other gems here that weren't technically a part of the Pink Court investigations and intelligence units, but her eyes caught onto something far off. Her indigo eyes narrowed at the moving object on the horizon-- a gem? Her nerves suddenly ignited, fists clenched as her falcata materialized in a burst of purple light. She glanced over her shoulder as she called down to the rest of the gems working in the quarry,"Heads up, we got a 2020,"
Murmurs broke out below as some of the gems continued what they were doing, while others dropped their work, summoned their weapons, and rushed up along the quarry's access point to hunker down and prepare to ambush the unauthorized gem. The sound of work against ice continued to tick and tack, echoing over the frozen arctic valley. While she waited for the gem to get nearer, she opened her simple communications device and pinged her employer.
At first their only companion was the howling wind, but what seemed an eternity of trudging through the snowy, windy tundra would not be the only assault upon their senses: The wind would come to carry the grunts and groans of hard labor as well as the smell of raw, exposed Earth. Ancient and freshly exhumed- something they had, unfortunately, spent enough time around to recognize at an instant. Something, either gem or human, was digging nearby, and deep too, by the smell of it. The answer to this question was soon to become apparent- It didn't exactly take their well-trained eye to spot the bright, animated spot of purple upon the stark, white horizon; An Amethyst no doubt, and more than one judging by the sudden increase in color. If this site served a purpose even vaguely similar to what Arsenic 2MD had suggested, 7XB should have known it would be quite heavily guarded.
Their stomach began to churn again, muscles coiling as if to hold the shredding fabric that seemed to be restraining their temper. It was becoming harder to deny the creeping dread of suspicion taking root in their mind. Had Padparadscha been using them this whole time? Was this her plan from the very beginning, to somehow, eventually, warp them against their own Diamond as well?
Was..was none of it real? All the feelings, the confessions of something special between them? How could they've let themselves be so vulnerable? So..SO..
There was no doubt, especially as they drew closer, that the quarry personnel were getting ready for them.
For a moment, as her eyes narrowed against the snow, she wondered if she'd seen a mirage; the combination of snow drifts, the sun, and mysterious heat waves that wobbled over the pale image of the oncoming interloper made her wonder if her first guess might have been wrong. The other gems got themselves into position, while she was tempted to ask them if they saw anything, but kept her gaze focused on whatever was out there. As the figure marched closer, her brows floated higher on her face; from where she was it had been difficult for some time to see the figure, let alone put a name to them, but it became clear this wasn't a mirage as the gem continued to near.
Not just any gem, but a clear quartz. The only clear quartz she'd ever seen was..."Commander 7XB?" She muttered, brows furrowing. At her uncertain suggestion, the other nearby quartz looked at each other, or tried to peer out from the access point to get a look at what 6UE was talking about.
Amethyst kept her falcata drawn, and angled herself defensively toward the gem. Even if they were confirmed to be 7XB, it would be better for her to follow the list of protocols that the sapphire had drilled into her head before she'd been assigned here. It was unclear to her whether that gem was a part of the investigations unit or not, it seemed unlikely considering they were from the Yellow Court. If they had business here, wouldn't they just show up with Padparadscha's ship? Was this another surprise performance test? She continued to ruminate over possibilities with pursed lips, but there was no real telling what the gem was doing here until they were close enough for her to ask.
Just as they themselves were recognized by the Amethyst as they came ever closer, so too would 7XB realize exactly who it was they were coming face-to-face with, a heavy sigh passing their lips as they finally came to stand before the narrow, heavily guarded entry zone to the quarry.
6UE- The quartz should have expected to see the Amethyst here. After all, for all they knew she was still part of Padparadscha's entourage, despite their suggestions to the contrary. For all 7XB knew she had been here since the last mission they'd undertaken together, just before they'd introduced the Sapphire and 3JJ, another face they were thankful not to see. If there was one gem who they believed had no part in this apparent transgression, if only by merit of being a new addition to the team, it was the Jasper.
“6UE,” they called crisply, voice lashing across the icy wind, shaggy strands of hair cast wildly across the Quartz gem’s cloudy visage, “I know what's going on here.” They were in no mood to mince words- They were going to get in here one way or another, but they didn't expect this battalion of Amethysts to simply let them in; After all, it was their duty not to. Unfortunate, but they could respect that.
“Where is she, Amethyst?”
As much as they were trying to maintain their cool, they were seething, snow searing off their skin.
Some of the other amethysts relaxed, glancing in confusion to the others as they recognized the clear quartz from when they had drilled in the arena. 6UE remained in position, her sense for danger tingling as 7XB made their approach; last time she'd seen this gem, she wasn't exactly on good footing with them. The fuming veteran had seemed to bring the temperature up a few degrees by the time they reached the guards that had been waiting. Shoulders tense, Ame listened while remaining at a defensive angle, and hoped she hadn't already somehow incurred their wrath.
"Y-you do?" She uttered, brows floating up to give her a dumbfounded look. 6UE wasn't quite sure what the clear quartz was talking about; she glanced over her shoulder toward the quarry as gems continued to work. No one was suppose to know what this thing really was, it seemed only Padparadscha knew the full story-- was it possible that she had told 7XB? At their question, 6UE's eyes flicked to the side. Instantly she knew who the gem was talking about, but she could tell there was something else going on. Her eyes narrowed a bit as she thought; it probably wasn't a good idea to get involved any more than she had to, nonetheless she had a job to do.
"Well, she's not here," She answered carefully, refocusing her dark eyes on 7XB. Then the purple quartz gave a shrug,"You need special clearance to be here. Do you have a code?" Her brow quirked at 7XB. She pulled out her communicator, then began to dial in the coordinates for Padparadscha's holotech.
They could not help, deep down, but to feel like a hypocrite as their temperature began to rise at being denied entry- 6UE was only doing her job, and they had expected no less, but all the same it was yet another, irritating drop in the overflowing bucket. “Do I have a code?” They repeated as if the younger gem had called them the foulest thing to ever walk the stars, the 'hizz’ of melting snow silenced beneath their boot heel as they made to descend upon the entryway, as well as its gem guardian. “Oh, I have a code alright. What about YOU, 6UE?” they retort ruefully, a much different emphasis on the word than before. A faint 'pop’ was hardly distinguished over the wailing gale, fingers curling into their palms.
Truly 7XB carried no ill-will towards Amethyst, but the Clear Quartz could find no other focus for their insensate rage- The true source of their anger was nowhere to be seen, and these gems were the only thing physically standing between them and the truth they so desperately needed to see for themselves. Surely Padparadscha had been contacted by now- but they were in no mood to wait.
“Get out of my way, 6UE.” As if they expected it to be so easy.
The gems who had found it in themselves to relax when the commander first made their approach now snapped up straight as the clear quartz's voice cracked over the quarry. The words had smacked 6UE into a higher state of alertness as well, her whole form braced against the senior soldier's harsh tone. She kept a careful eye on 7XB as the realization hit her, that the glacial demeanor they usually donned seemed to be melting away as quickly as the frost disintegrating in their wake. Gems with a temper were something she could handle, but she'd seen a piece of this gem's ballistic side back in Empire City-- it was no mere temper.
Ame drew in a breath and held it, trying to shore up the courage to deny them entry, standing squarely in 7XB's warpath. There had been no forewarning of their arrival, no indication that they were suppose to be here, and they had only a fighting gem's code to show for their entry; as far as she was concerned, that wasn't enough for her to entirely break her orders,"You're an unauthorized presence," 6UE stated, and surprised herself with how confidently she was able to make those words sound, despite the fact that she wasn't sure whether she was about to be blasted into the nearest star,"Under no circumstances am I to let an unauthorized presence into the site," Her hand curled more tightly around the grip of her sword. In actuality, her orders were to detain or destroy any unauthorized gems on sight, but this felt like an extenuating circumstance. Ame glanced down to her communicator, and read the message that had been sent back to her,"...No exceptions,"
The purple gem had certainly picked quite the time, they thought, to grow a backbone, their infernal gaze lowering as she moved to better grip the hilt of her sword- clearly they weren't going to bully their way past the Amethyst this time. They could not help but find a moment to be..proud of her for standing her ground, for doing her duty. It gave the clear gem a brief moment of clarity, a sigh passing their lips as they glanced at each and every one of the gathered gems.
So this is how it was going to be.
“If those are your orders,” they replied with a threatening sort of finality, “ I suppose there is nothing else to be said, is there?” But there was, wasn't there?
“ This is what this planet is doing to us, you know.” They spoke now to the collective, not simply 6UE, and about much more than their denied request for entry. “Pits us against one and another.."even those who are beyond reproach- the Diamonds, it seemed. Did Pink Diamond know about this plot? What did that mean if she did? They..well, that was something to worry about later. “I am..sorry about this..but..” What they needed to say next was more impossible than ever to say..so they didn't. They'd been betrayed, cut deeper than ever a gem so heavy-laden with loss could have imagined. All that remained now was to avenge their honor..and that of their Diamond.
She swallowed as their eyes seared into her, but she continued to hold her ground despite the thick silence proceeding their words,"But...?"
The cohort of guardian gems hesitated in the lull between words, looking to each other, and the clear quartz, for more guidance before they made their move. Some seemed unwilling to budge altogether, especially after what the veteran quartz had said. 6UE's eyes flicked around and she realized the confusion that had taken hold, then gave a short shake of her head,"But, you're right, we're not enemies," She spoke up hastily. A blip of pink light glittered in the sky over her head, far in the distance; the ship had entered the atmosphere, and zipped toward the site at mach speeds. Amethyst was too engrossed in what was happening in front of her to notice; she wanted to clear things up before anyone on the unit got too confused, or someone got hurt,"I just can't let you in here, not without some kind of clearance," She scratched the back of her head; she was suppose to detain them and take them to a containment cell, but treating them like a prisoner probably wouldn't do this situation any favors.
Then, she narrowed her eyes a bit at 7XB. Why would this gem even want to be here? She couldn't fathom what would send them trying to pry their way into the unfinished quarry, so angered that whatever herculean force that held it back threatened to splinter. It seemed as they said, they knew what was going on, whatever it really was, and it had unsettled 7XB just as much as Ame's own prying into this project had unsettled her. Filled with conflicted emotions and lines of reasoning, all 6UE could do was stall until Padparadscha was willing to show her face. The quartz's eyes kept darting down to her communicator.
She was right about that: They were not enemies by their very nature, not like the rebels, but neither were they on the same page. In the end it always, always came down to a gem’s Diamond above all else- Despite what planet they were on, 7XB was as loyal to their own Diamond as, they imagined, the others were to their own, despite the sheer audacity of the actions they were complicit to in regards to their own.
As such, they could only see this ending up one way. Still..the words of the Amethyst carried likely more weight than she could have known. In a sudden, blinding blizzard of melting snow and charred earth, the quartz blitzed forward, razored blades cutting deep grooves through the permafrost as they blitzed towards 6UE, refusing to avert their course in a dangerous game of chicken. At the last minute, though, they launched skyward..aiming to come down like a meteor on the other side of the likely-scrambling contingent of Quartz gems.
The impact took.. admittedly longer than they expected due to the staggered depths of the quarry’s interior, nonetheless sending up a cloud of rock and dust, rushing upwards all at once like a great, icy mushroom. Once they found what they were looking for, they would destroy it, and anything else that seemed important along the way. Let loose, the fury and indignation brewing in this gem’s heart was terrifying to behold, willing to incinerate anything in their path.
Her teeth clenched, in half seconds she squared her stance and threw up her sword, so quickly that the stab of uncertainty that coursed through her in those seconds was lost in the whirl of the cold shudder that impacted her whole form. Unsettling speed and infernal intention drove straight for her-- doubts, yet without words to them, hit her like a ton of ice bricks to the chest-- then her eyes shot open wide as 7XB leaped over the wall of gems, her neck craned to keep an eye on them, but they soon disappeared over the edge, and Amethyst was left slack jawed, shocked, awed even, at what she'd just witnessed.
6UE's brows then furrowed, gripped now by the whirlwind of thoughts that hadn't had time to sink in just moments ago. The precarious situation she was in strained on her; was this gem their enemy after all, was this gem a rebel? If 7XB was a rebel, was she on their side, or on her sisters' side? Amethyst's feet might as well have been frozen into the ground as the others rushed forward, diving over the edge of the quarry after their target. She, and two others, hesitated. 6UE swallowed, and made her decision. Finally her feet moved, and she dove over with the rest of them.
The Amethysts that had been left to work in the quarry were at first confused; some turned from what they were doing to get a look at 7XB, some dropped everything and summoned their weapons. However, as the rest of the quarry's guards poured over the icy ledge, the picture became clear; all twenty of them zeroed in on the clear quartz.
The air had been laden with dust and crystals of ice from the work of machinery and manual labor, but when the commander had made their impact, along with the other Amethysts, the sun's light became a glare in the eyes of the advancing guards, glinting off of the powdered air. Despite that, they quickly got into their formation, protecting key points; the access ramp, the wave disrupter, drills and scoops, as well as a lit tunnel. Those who weren't guarding something lunged for the figure at the bottom of the quarry.
'And so it begins,’ they thought ruefully as the dust began to clear, giving way to wall of Amethysts flooding over the edge of the quarry towards them. Everything about this felt..wrong, gems fighting gems, quartz in combat with each other..it was something you would expect from the Crystal Gem rebels, not soldiers with Diamonds emblazoned upon their uniforms. The yellow upon their chest stood out from all others, and as a grim reminder of why they were here- They had come too far to give up now.
If they could not find the information they were looking for, 7XB would bring the whole site down around them. With solemn determination they rose from their crouched position, parrying a side-blow from an Amethyst's blade, sparks streaking across the blade sprung hastily from the yellow diamond upon the forearm of their right gauntlet: proud as ever. Pushing the Amethyst back, 7XB wrenched up their other, gauntleted fist, aiming a strike across the purple gem's jaw. Devoid of a blade, this punch was intended to distract the Quartz long enough for the clear gem to disengage, they had no desire to make these gems suffer- that wasn't why they were here. Whilst the gem was still reeling, they ducked into a spin, vanishing in a trail of dust down one of the many tunnels carved into the side of the cliff face.
The raging quartz had no idea what exactly they were looking for, but their gut told them they'd know when they found it- Amethysts on their trail or not.
She would be arriving soon, they imagined, and they'd get an explanation..or a confession, somehow.
The glittering hull of the sleek pink-court space cruiser glinted in late day sunlight before deploying its support, and floated down to come to a gentle rest atop the snow. While the engines powered down, they continued to quietly whir as the ship remained live. Steam rushed from the sides of the hatch and its locks disengaged, then the door pulled aside like a metal curtain to allow the ramp its descent. When the gangway crunched into the snow, figures appeared in the lit backdrop of the vessel. First, 3JJ marched off of the ship, followed by a short red-orange gem, and one medical prototype Diaspore. The three of them lined up and went to attention. Padparadscha, in her elegantly fashioned field attire, glided down the ramp and swiveled to begin toward her project.
The first thing she noticed was that 6UE was not in position. She frowned, and without breaking stride, a dainty finger reached to tap her wrist to bring up her holoscreen. All messages the gem had sent, she had already read; for one reason or another, 7XB had showed up unannounced. There was little else for her to go off of, but she had a twisting, gnawing in her midriff.
As the sapphire appeared over the access point of the quarry, her multi-hued eyes widened; Amethysts were strategically staggered around the quarry, others were initiating the lock-downs, shutting thick metal grates around key equipment and areas-- all areas except for the tunnel that lead to the control room where most of her personnel seemed to be marching down into. Padparadscha's gaze lowered, eyes narrowing as the gnawing became a stinging spritz of realization. She scurried down the access point, with her entourage hurrying after her.
The sting became more of a sharp, hot stab as she continued, her feet picking up speed as she got out of the snow and onto the bare, cold stone. Her teeth clenched as she neared the tunnel, even the long strides of 3JJ had to be adjusted to keep up with the small gem. She rushed passed the evidence of impact, the churned icy earth leading into the tunnel from several uses of the quartz spin-dash.
Everything made sense now, Padparadscha reasoned to herself. Everything they had said, everything they had done-- the trust they had woven with her was a sheer fabric, she could see that now. Teeth bared as her small fists tightly curled together, feet leaving Earth scorched in her wake,"Out of my way!" She hissed to the amethysts guarding the entrance tunnel, who looked at her with dumbfounded expressions, "Move!" She swung her hands around as if to swat them all away and the amethysts did as they were told, making way for her as she continued to march down the tunnel. At the end of it, she knew 7XB would be tearing apart her control room, perhaps with the help of other yellow court adjuncts, or even her own clumsy amethyst guards.
They hated being here- even a tunnel.as wide and spaciously carved as this left the clear Quartz gem feeling especially claustrophobic, even the thrumming echoes of their own movements threatening to unleash a tide of horrors that was much better left in the past- But a greater purpose was moving them through the blustery, icy tunnels than their own, substantial will.
They were not trying to hide by any means. 7XB’s entire goal was to be found by the Sapphire. The messy trail carved into the bedrock would tell the others as much: They would not have been so foolish as to leave a trail if stealthy insertion had been their goal. No, they would be found, and soon, too, judging by that familiar voice lashing at them from the opposite end of the tunnel. The sound of air swirling and rushing through a massive, hollow opening led them to the control room, and that was where the clear quartz would be discovered, their back positioned so purposefully towards rte entrance to said control room. Nothing would seem too disheveled, though they would be found leaned over the desk, something held in their right hand with knuckles braced against the smooth surface.
“So, it's true then?” They demanded in that usually frigid tone, though only once they were certain that it was her footsteps they heard.
“What 2MD said was true. All of it?” Surely this proved that, even if the Arsenic was a rebel as they believed, that a gem that still wore the sigil of their Diamond could be trusted more than any other- at least in this. They turned their head over their shoulder, hair whipping as they turned to face her.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
