Name: Kyanite (Kya) - Facet-4E8N Cut-6XF
Appeared Gender: Female
Appeared Age: Twenty One
Gemstone: Kyanite
Gemstone Location: Between her shoulder blades, teardrop shape with the pointed end facing down
Faction: Homeworld - Blue Diamond (likely unalligned in future)
Corrupted: No
(If Corrupted)Monster Form: N/A
Appearance: Kyanite has a slender build with long but proportionate limbs and feminine curves. She stands at a height of 5’8” and is surprisingly light as well as being clearly built for grace. Her skin, smooth and clear, is a light blue, and her eyes are a beautiful mid-dark blue. Her hair is light blue that is almost white with slightly darker blue streaks, wavy and free flowing and almost always covering her right eye. It is quite long, reaching almost to her ankles at its longest point. She also has three dark blue dots from biggest to smallest beneath each eye. She tends to wear bare feet and a dark blue dress reaching mid-thigh with black shorts undearneath reaching a little bit longer. Around her neck is a black choker with a light blue diamond pendant attached to it (not a gem. Replace the teal drop with something similar to this)
(Making something for her was taking too long, so this will have to do - may update this once I have finished a ref for her)
Personality: Kyanite is a very gentle soul, and to many she may seem fragile enough to break, and not just in appearance. When it comes to social interaction or big changes, she can be not quite fearful per se, but at the very least wary and a bit skittish. She tends not to speak unless spoken too, being very quiet and reserved and naturally tending to just keep to herself and observing from the sidelines. Like a pearl, she is very good at fading into the background, in a sense, used to being seen as more an object than a sentient being because she was chosen for entertainment rather than the truly functional purpose she was made for. She tends to hide her emotions well and keep her thoughts and opinions to herself, not used to being allowed a say, however in truth she is quite intellectual and admittedly sensitive, liable to take most things to heart. In fact, she is incredibly self-degrading, and tends to insult herself more than anyone else can, something that may at times irritate anyone who grows close to her. When she does manage to open up a little Kyanite proves to be a sweet gem with a big heart, always putting those close to her first, and seeing love as the best thing that can happen to anyone. Conflict terrifies her and she will tend to avoid it at all costs, perhaps a little too extremely at times. She also holds very conflicting emotions towards homeworld and the diamonds. On one hand, they terrify her greatly, and the prospect of returning home is nerve-wracking. However, the thought of being trapped somewhere she’s never been before and having no control over her situation is even more daunting, something that makes her desperate to return to homeworld. She also feels she has no worth but serving the diamonds, making her feel like she must return, and can’t help but cling to the slight hope that now she may prove something of worth to the diamonds. Or, at the very least, that they will not choose to punish - or worse, shatter - her. With those that grow close to her she is much more vocal and confident, and surprisingly quite fun-loving. Kyanite is also a very curious gem. She wouldn’t admit it, but the thought of knowledge excites her, and the feeling of wrongness she gets from learning things she wasn’t supposed to know (or thinks she wasn’t) is thrilling, as well as a little scary. However, she has a huge social hurdle in the way, and therefore prefers to learn through observation, fearing interaction lest it lead to confrontation or any other form of unpleasant situation. Having always served other gems and never had anything for herself, not only do thought and options - rights - feel horribly wrong no matter how amazing, she will still submit herself to being seen and treated as lesser because not only is it habit, but knowing her place gives her a sense of stability that, in a strange way, comforts her.
Likes/Dislikes:
+ Learning/knowledge - She loves the thought of knowledge, and while she doesn’t see it as power, nor does she want power, she does feel it would make her worth more and it allows her to feel more accomplished.
+ Stars - They’ve just always been so intriguing and beautiful, and the thought that they are so constant and yet ever changing fascinates her (aspects of earth will likely do the same).
+ Observing - Being naturally curious and wanting to learn, she enjoys just watching and absorbing things and information, studying the things around her and trying to figure them out.
+ Stability and structure (in her life) - Kyanite does not mind things changing, she understands this is inevitable, however she likes to have a base of stability in her day to day life, something that is certain to her and doesn’t change, therefore she feels admittedly safe knowing her place and having things set out before her, even if she doesn’t like being seen as nothing.
+ Helping others - Kyanite gains immense satisfaction from helping others, especially those she cares about, this is mostly driven by her compassion, and was what awoke her power to begin with. However, because this compassionate sense and need to help has also caused her trouble, she often finds herself hesitant.
+ Dancing and singing (and just music in general) - Since she was given to Blue Diamond to serve as an entertainer, Kyanite has loved singing, dancing, and honestly just any kind of music. Not only does it fascinate her, but it makes her feel safe, gives her a distraction, and when it’s under her power it allows her to feel stable and in control in situations she would otherwise feel helpless. She will often use some for of dancing or music to calm herself down and even help herself think or focus.
- Change - Little changes she can manage, but big changes are very unsettling to Kyanite, and she prefers to avoid them as much as possible because they make her feel weak and helpless.
- Unhappiness - Kyanite isn’t sure what it is about it, but she feels the driving need to stop others from feeling upset or unwell. Perhaps it is from feeling weak and scared herself, it helps her resonate with them, and she feels if she can’t help herself, maybe she can help them.
- Yelling/Arguing - It makes her feel terribly uncomfortable, or even afraid depending how serious, and at the very least she always feels cornered and on edge, even if the argument has nothing to do with her and is between random strangers. If someone is yelling at her, she will likely act submissive in an attempt to calm the situation because she is afraid it will escalate and doesn’t know how else to stop it.
- Strong emotions - Emotions are a very overwhelming concept to Kyanite, on homeworld no one ever seemed to have them, or at the very least were expected no to show them. So used to forcing her emotions down, when they well up and sweep her away she feels like she’s losing control of herself and it freaks her out.
- Being Alone - Kyanite, having always been cast aside and ignored, has an overwhelming desperation for companionship that she won’t even admit to herself, she hates being alone, even if she hates being around others. She’d love a companion that she can simply just exist alongside without worry. (This will most likely grow into a love - or even obsession - for fusion, as it would make her feel stronger and not alone).
Fears: The Diamonds - Kyanite views the Diamonds with awe, and seeing as they are the supreme power, it would be foolish not to fear them. Specifically, she fears their judgement and what they might do to her, as well as ever disappointing them, as she was once let off easy and doubts it will happen again.
Homeworld - More specifically, she fears returning to homeworld. She has not been their in a long while, and her most recent time there was anything but positive. While she is desperate to return, the thought of it is a hurdle she knows she will have to overcome eventually.
Being shattered - This fear is pretty self explanatory, like a gem’s version of a fear of dying, the thought of ceasing to exist terrifies her and may often make her freeze up.
Conflict - Her fear of conflict is a combination of her social anxiety and her fear of being shattered, she is a pacifist, and the thought of fighting paralyses her, especially after being caught in the middle of a battle because of the anger of the Diamonds.
Weapon: Despite her fear of conflict, Kya has the ability to summon a single sword, or twin daggers that look quite similar to the sword. However, due to her avoidance of conflict, her weapon remains undiscovered.
Ability 1: Healing Touch - Kya can heal both wounds and cracked gems. This healing requires physical contact with her hand (specifically) in the general area of the injury, such as directly on a cut/crack, or on the area of skin above a broken bone etc - the more direct the easier it is to heal. Contact must remain for at least three seconds, longer depending on the severity of the wound. If contact is broken, the healing will remain accelerated until fully healed if it is mild (such as a cut healing after another second or two), however more severe injuries will slow back to natural healing rate after a while, and she must make contact again to continue the accelerated healing process. She does not take on the pain of the wound, but healing does have some adverse effects that range from slight dizziness with minor wounds/cracks, all the way to unconsciousness with fatal wounds or very severely cracked gems. To heal, she must want to heal the patient, be it the drive to help, or even wanting to heal them for the sake of her safety or a friend. Basically, she must somehow convince herself she wants them to be well. She can’t heal shattered or corrupted gems. She can heal herself, humans and animals.
Ability 2: Light Manipulation - Rather than manipulate light in its entirety, Kya can only use it in certain ways. One of these ways is wings made of light (much like how their form is made of light). These wings are similar to that of a fairy or butterfly, and a translucent, sparkly blue in color, seeming to come from her gem. She can fly using these wings, however she can’t summon them if she is too physically exhausted, and they only last for up to four posts in general rp, or two posts in combat, and have a cool down of two posts. She may also use her light manipulation to create a sheild/forcefield. This forcefield forms in, essentially, a blue tinged dome with the same translucency as her wings. It is not indestructible, however it is incredibly strong and lasts for as long as she stays still - with the exception of minute movements. The moment she moves (more than just a slight movement of a hand etc) it will fall away and leave her defenceless. The dome can be 'broken' however by a series of four heavy duty attacks within four posts, or a prolonged heavy duty attack concentrated on one point for two posts. Once the 'dome' falls or is 'broken,' it can't be summoned again in the same thread unless said thread spans over several hours or more. This ‘dome’ is a fear reflex, and she generally can’t summon it other than in the moment, and generally without intending to. If she is in physical contact with someone, the dome will encompass them too, however the dome has a maximum diameter of 1.5 metre and will fail to form if the 'occupants' would fail to fit inside. It will generally form so that the edges are four inches away from touching the occupant(s) on all sides - with the exception of when it reaches its maximum size. Other than that, all she can do with her light manipulation is harmless light shows, things like sparkles or fireworks for effect which she used to impress gems as an entertainer. Her 'dome' and wings can't be used at the same time. This ability is worthless in total darkness.
Fusions: None, but this will likely happen
History: Kya was, essentially, an experiment. While a few other Kyanites existed, some changes in environment and her growing process were made in an attempt to give her a gift of healing for Pink Diamond’s court, an experiment and process that had begun with the precursor and ultimately 'failed' Euclase units, whom were fragile with inconsistent healing abilities. However, when Kya emerged, she had no healing ability to speak of. At least, it seemed as such. There were many attempts given by herself and other gems to try and encourage any hidden ability to emerge, but all that was discovered was a light manipulation. And so, she was reevaluated. It proved true she has surprising natural talent in dancing, singing, and various instruments (such as harp, violin and flute), and so she was granted instead to Blue Diamond as an entertainer.
Under Blue Diamond, Kya had a new chance to shine, and so she was sent to various locations to entertain other gems in other colonies, using her light manipulation to accent her shows. During her acts she could enjoy herself, melt into the freedom of music and dance, however she hated the attention. When she wasn’t getting attention, she was ignored, insulted and dismissed. Without a true purpose, she was worthless, and that was something that stuck in her mind, that she never allowed herself to forget. On the colonised planet she entertained on the longest, Kya grew close to another gem. However, this gem wound up getting cracked, and without thought Kya just reacted, and healed them. However, as the crack was quite severe, the healing greatly weakened her, and this terrified her. So, with the help of her friend, Kya lied and hid her ability, content with her unchanging life. She feared her ability could somehow permanently damage her with overuse, so she decided to pretend it did not exist. However, she found herself practicing it in secret on smaller cracks and injuries.
After a time, Kya was brought before Blue and Pink Diamond to entertain them and their courts. It was hard to tell if they were impressed, however they were not displeased, and much of their courts enjoyed it. That was, until a cracked aristocratic gem arrived. Without thought, Kya acted on instinct and immediately rushed to heal the gem, wishing to please her Diamonds and prove she was an asset, as well as feeling the need to end the gem’s suffering. However, she did not pause to think of the consequence. The fact that she healed the gem so confidently revealed to both Diamonds that she not only had healing powers, but that she had knowledge of them, that she had practiced them. The Diamonds were furious to find one of their subjects had lied to them so freely, and Blue Diamond was quick to insist upon shattering her. However, Pink Diamond, the more lenient of the two, was insistent upon a different course of action, pointing out she was now a successful experiment and therefore at the very least worth observing.
Their compromise (which also proved to be a test of her abilities as well) was for her to accompany some soldiers and research gems to a hostile planet with the task to heal them should any become injured or cracked. She did her job, and they protected her, yet she was still deeply terrified, and it brought to her a deeply rooted fear of conflict, especially as despite the protection she recieved as their only healer, she was still ‘poofed’ and forced to retreat to her gem. After such, the research proved to be complete, and the group returned to the ship. However, whilst they were done with this planet, they were not entirely finished with her ‘test.’ The ship took her to Earth, and she was dropped off along with a quartz soldier as protection to hunt down and heal a cracked gem the Diamonds wished returned to Homeworld with her. Finding the gem was much more difficult than expected, and when she did find them, the gem took one look at the diamond one her person and fled. Kya and her guard sought down the gem, and when they found her, they saw she was cracked as Kya had been told, and had now retreated into her gem for whatever reason. Taking her someplace she and her guard deemed ‘safe’, Kya healed the gem and waited for her to reform. It took some restraint from Kya’s guard for her to be able to speak with the other gem, however the gem proved quite difficult, and terrified of the prospect of returning to Homeworld. They managed to get away and flee.
Try as they might, Kya and her guard could not find the gem again, however they were determined not to return without the other gem, even if they had to ‘poof’ her to capture her. Unfortunately, in their search, some unknown gem without homeworld identification attacked them. Kya’s guard immediately stepped in to protect her after she froze up in paralysing fear, however they were shattered in the process, leaving Kya defenceless. Seeing her guard shattered before her petrified Kya, and she fled - likely, she was allowed to escape because she clearly wasn’t a threat, but she didn’t think much on this.
After fleeing, Kya retreated to a seemingly abandoned kindergarten for shelter and tried to get her confidence up again. After achieving something akin to mild bravery, Kya began seeking out a way home. However, it proved in her task that the warps had been destroyed, every one she came across being damaged beyond use and repair. She then tried seeking out methods of communication, however this proved fruitless as well. Her fear of returning to the Diamonds alone and empty handed to profess her failure was soon trumped by her fear of being stuck on this strange, seemingly hostile planet forever, and so she retreated back to the kindergarten, unsure what to do and stuck in her own fear.
