Earth. Truly a planet of beauty, a planet of unlimited potential, a planet of perfection... at least it would be, if those pathetic rebel gems would give up their pointless fight and allow Pink Diamond to have her way with the disgusting ball of dirt and water. At least that's how it was in the eyes... well eye, of Aquarius, to him this planet could rise to be the glittering jewel of the galaxy, and in turn rise the aquamarine up to greatness, dwarfed only be the diamonds themselves, and any filthy rebel who thought they could rob him of his rightful place would find themselves living a short existence, if they were lucky.
This day was nothing special, Aquarius had already completed his morning screaming session and now set out to find some rebels. In his first few weeks being stuck on Earth, he had assessed that Beach City seemed to be some form of hub for rebel activity, and was determined to shatter every last one of them and find their definitely hidden, super secret base which almost certainly had to be hidden somewhere in the town where no-one could find it.
Just before he entered Beach City Aquarius made sure to shift into the perfect disguise, which consisted of the removal of the Pink Diamond symbol on his jacket and couldn't help but mentally bask in his own genius "Those idiot rebels will never see through such a ingenious disguise, they'll think I'm harmless." The Aquamarine then put on a fake smile and walked into the town as if he actually wanted to be there.
Ame strolled through town with a box of donuts in one arm and and a pizza in the other, gleefully taking a bite from either one. There was a bit of a hop in her step as the excitement of the day continued to let her float; there were so many fun things to see and do on Earth. Though she had already been having a busy day, she looked forward to the rest of it. Dressed in an unzipped track suit, collar flared and accompanied by a silver chain a friend had given her, Ame was beginning to feel more and more comfortable with human clothing, food, and activities.
Though, when it came down to it, she was still a gem warrior through and through. Her eyes flicked up from the cardboard box filled with sprinkled donuts, and caught onto the brightly colored aquamarine strolling toward the temple. Ame's eyes narrowed; there weren't Diamond's on his uniform, but there weren't stars either, and aside she'd never seen him before. Crystal Gems for the most part, knew each other or had friends of friends who knew each other, but random gems could be anyone. Her lips pressed while she skeptically mulled things over and decided what she would do. Loyal, Crystal Gem, or some other kind of rebel, whoever this aquamarine was, he seemed to have a loftiness to his step.
The amethyst guard made her decision, and sauntered up to the aquamarine, giving a nod of her head in greeting, because both her arms were taken up by food items. "Hey there pal, haven't seen you 'round before, you new in town?" She asked, keeping an upbeat and friendly tone.
Aquarius had been so busy being in his self-absorbed little world and only notices her when she began talking to him which naturally scared the living daylights out of him, resulting in the aquamarine yelping and jumping backwards, only to trip and fall onto the ground. This however was OBVIOUSLY all part of his master plan, at least that's how Aquarius justified it in his head, never the less it provided him a target. The Amethyst had to be a rebel, everything about her screamed it: his hideous outfit, her almost sickeningly positive attitude, and possibly worst of all in the Aquamarine's mind: her complete lack of respect for him, she should of been bowing or saluting, but no, instead she used crude head movements. Defiantly a rebel.
To the Aquamarine though she should be an easy target, after all amethyst's weren't made for thinking, only fighting, this would allow his already perfected acting skills to work even better. He began whimpering and scrambling back slightly, as if scared of the gem "P-p-please don't hurt me! I won't fight, you can take me back, I won't do anything, just don't hurt me like before!" he then tucked himself into a fetal position and began trembling. The pity play! it work all 0 times he tried it before, acting like he was scared because of some traumatising backstory, and not irritated because of how much taller the Amethyst was then him, which was the actual source of the trembling.
Ame sometimes forgot how huge and intimidating she could seem, and almost jumped when Aquamarine began his sudden groveling. Her thick lavender brows shot up and her mouth moved wordlessly as she listened to the gem; she'd startled gems in the past, but she'd never seen someone so beset by her as this one! The good natured gem's gut twisted with remorse, the guardian wasn't quite sure how to rectify this situation, but she had a feeling she might be able to talk things out with him. He was obviously stressed, and in need of some help!
"Whoa there! Didn't mean to frighten you!" She gave a light chuckle, then with a slight smile, she closed her donut and pizza boxes so they could be stacked together. With one hand free, she could lean down to offer a hand to help Aquamarine up. Hand outstretched, she began speaking again, though kept a mild and casual tone,"It's just a small town is all, easy to recognize new faces!" Her smile broadened, showing her teeth that were pristine despite the few sprinkles stuck to them here or there,"I live here, so if you need help finding your way around, I'd like to help ya out,"
Aquarius mentally smirked and basked in his triumph over the first part of his plan working, it was almost too easy as her reaction gave the gem an almost twisted sense of joy as he imagined how she'd react when he eventually dropped his facade. He was now ready to put the next stage of his plan into action: to squeeze her for all information she had and then shatter her! Or maybe just defeat her and keep her gem as a gift for his ever illustrious Diamond, it rather depended on his mood.
The Aquamarine then put into action an Earth technique know as 'puppy dog eye' (whatever a puppy was) "Y-y-you really mean it? I just had to get away. They all turned on me. Tried to sha-shatt-shatter me. Are you one of the rebels? Please I need you to protect me, I'll tell you everything I know, I have nowhere left to go." He then took her hand, trying extremely hard to not pay attention to the horrid THINGS sticking out of her teeth. Aquarius then noticed the pizza and donut boxes, and assuming them to be some kind of top secret rebel device or intel he decided to 'covertly' ask about them "So... what's in the boxes? Super important intel? a weapon of some kind? Oh! A miniaturized doomsday device?!"
Her brows furrowed as Aquamarine shared his plight. A deep frown tugged at her lips; both sides of the war were getting restless, and she began to wonder if she had left Homeworld at an opportune time-- especially if gems were now being attacked in the way this high-class gem was explaining. As baffling as it was to think that they would go after such prestigious gems like aquamarines, she couldn't say no to someone who seemed so desperate for help. She gave a solid nod,"Protecting is what I was made to do," Ame answered with a firm tone of voice, and effortlessly hoisted the more lithe gem up to his feet.
His next question surprised her enough for one of her thick brows to hoist as well. Doomsday device? Intel? Her lips pressed together to form a thin line, and she thought about these peculiar guesses. She wasn't sure what exactly it was that aquamarines did, so maybe it was in this one's nature to suspect such things of her, aside from the fact that Earth culture was hard to pick up on. "Oh, these?" She piped up, and pointed to the boxes with her free hand before flipping the top one open,"It's called food!" A broad smile bloomed over her expression,"You eat it. It's really weird if you haven't tried it before, but it goes like this," the amethyst guard reached into the box to draw forth a jelly donut, then bit into it, chewed thoroughly, and swallowed to demonstrate.
Aquarius faked a delighted smile as the Amethyst agreed to protect him, though he was admittingly somewhat surprised that there was still enough of her that wasn't defective that she would guard a higher-up "Thank you! Really, truly, thank you!". The aquamarine did however give a honest, and maybe slightly adorable, squeal as he was lifted by the larger gem, which temporarily sent his mind into melt down "Oh goodness! She just touched me! I already feel so dirty!... NO! Pull yourself together! You're better than her, you'll have the last laugh soon enough." Thanks to this quick spout of self confidence, the aquamarine was able to quickly regain his composure.
It was then that Aquarius was introduced to one of Earth's stranger, and yet seemingly most popular past time: Eating. As the Amethyst gave him a demonstration of what eating entailed, the aquamarine looked to have a look of curiosity of his face, but mentally he was off put by the idea of allowing a foreign entity into his form and couldn't understand why a gem would do such a thing. "So, why exactly do you 'eat'? Do you gain anything from it? Because if not isn't it just a waste of efficiency?" Then however a far more important thought crossed Aquarius' mind, one which he had been yearning to know since he found himself trapped on the planet, and decided that in order to get the answer he would use one of his most powerful abilities!... Cuteness! As such the Aquamarine closed his eyes and opened them again looking at the Amethyst with sparkly eyes "Um... There was something I was wondering, if it's alright? I always wondered where you rebels hid your base. I mean I bet it's here, but it must be really well hidden to not have been assaulted by Homeworld yet."
She gave a light smile at the Aquamarine's expressions of gratitude, and her lips pressed together as she had to stifle a chuckle at the squeak that left the smaller, lithe gem. Though, soon he was back to asking questions; the curiosity of this gem was refreshing to her, as it made her feel like she was already wise about Earth's strange ways. Ame thought for a moment, then turned and began taking slow steps toward the beach.
"Eating is kinda fun, ya know?" She chuckled, and her eyes sparkled a little as she continued,"All these different flavors and textures are in food, and humans have come up with all kinds of neat ways to prepare it or package it up. It gives you a little boost of energy too! Not that we gems really need it, and it kinda takes energy to shift-shape so you can eat in the first place...but ya win some ya lose some," She gave a shrug and reached into the donut box-- there were only a few of them left, and she managed to stuff an entire chocolate glazed donut into her mouth. While she chewed it up, Aquamarine had already gone on to address another question of his...and Ame was no sleuth, but this gem seemed to have a whole lot of war-related questions. Couldn't this guy relax for a minute, have a slice of pizza or something? She didn't say it aloud, after all the gem did seem tense. After she swallowed the whole donut at once, she smacked her lips and thought about what she would say.
"Uh...well, it's kinda...classified," Ame shrugged,"I mean, the base has actually been attacked before, but it wasn't a full on assault," She didn't expect Aquamarine to know about the classified, covert missions that other Homeworld gems had been on before, but she herself didn't know much about them either, as that had happened before her recruitment as a Crystal Gem. "You have to be a Crystal Gem to see the base. But all this talk about war stuff is probably gonna stress you out more. Maybe I could show you around town a bit? Want some food?" She tilted her head, brows floating a little as she looked at Aquamarine, and extended her arm out so he could try the pizza and donuts before she devoured it all.
Flavors, food, eating. Earth had such strange words for strange things, infact everything about the pathetic ball of dirt was strange, seventy-one percent of the planet was water, empty space not being used for anything! Oh and the 'humans' NOTHING about them made any sense, from their lack of purpose to there inefficient form. Nothing about the planet had any order or logic to it and it made the Aquamarine's metaphorical blood boil.
Though slightly disapointed about not being able to see where their base was hidden, but it didn't come entirly unexpected. What was unexpected however, was the 'food' being offered to him by the purple gem. Though hesitant at first, Aquarius slowly reached over to the pizza, grabbing a slice. The gem was immediatly disgusted "Um... this 'food' seems to have secreted some kind of greasy fluid onto me. I guess that's normal though." While trying not to focus on the horrific item in his hand, the Aquamarine moved the slice to his mouth and took the tiniest bite from the tip, then another slightly bigger bite, and another bigger bite. A look of enjoyment was clear on the gems face, his eyes sparkling as he finished off the pizza slice, it was good, he hated to admit it, but it was really good. So for the first time that day, to someone who he hates, Aquarius uttered some of the most honest words of his life "That. Was. AMAZING! That tasted so good, i didn't even know i could taste, it's so strange and fun!" Being swept up in his own wild emotions, the Aquamarine literally jumped with joy "Yes, please. Show me everything!" He did immediately calm down however, as he came back to his senses, a very genuinely embarrassed look on his face.
Ame had to put a heft of effort into pressing her lips in an attempt to prevent herself from bursting into laughter at Aquamarines comments about the pizza grease, but as he became more and more enthralled by the pizza, she in turn grew in speechless surprise at the look on the gem's face, her indigo eyes getting wider and wider while her brows floated up. When he leaped for joy, she could no longer contain herself, a huge, giddy grin spilled across her face; it was nice to see a gem appreciate the finer things about Earth.
The amethyst guard spoke with renewed enthusiasm after Aquamarine declared his excitement to see everything, and motioned with one of her burly arms toward the shops,"Lets go this way first, I'll show you where I get this pizza stuff, and the donuts too. There's all kinds of food, just got to know where to find it. Fries, spaghetti, chocolate, protein shakes, there is way more but even I haven't been able to try everything yet. There's also other stuff, like Funland-- a piece of land where you have fun--" She chuckled at the way humans named things,"We can get that out after you buy food for the first time," She turned and stepped toward main-street, where all of Beach City's best places to find food were. If this gem was going to learn to be a Crystal Gem, he would have to learn how Earthlings interacted with each other. No one really helped her navigate it, she had figured most everything out on her own, but considered Aquamarine lucky; she could explain everything to him and make his transition a whole lot easier!
Whilst on the outside Aquarius' face had turned a very deep blue colour blushing in embarrassment, the inside of his head was much different. Inside the small gems head, a miniature version of himself was pacing back and forth, yelling numerous profanities before slightly calming down "Ok Aquarius, pull yourself together. I swore i'd never act like that again, but perhaps a more... 'positive' attitude is what's needed for the situation. All i need to do is wait for us to be alone and then capture her, interrogate her, maybe bend her to my will? No sounds like effort, I'll just reduce her to her gem form and keep her bubbled until the ship can be fixed." And that boys and girls is how a plan destined for complete and utter failure was born.
Aquarius forced himself to put on a genuine smile to the Amethyst before tilting his head at head in curiosity "So if humans aren't created with roles, then how do they decide who does what? I mean like these food humans, what abilities do they possess to create this food, what do they have which different humans don't? Also, what does this word 'buy' mean? Just by saying it it sounds like a horrible burden which I'll regret." Then his train of thought became derailed by a nagging question that had forced it's way to the front of his mind and so he asked it in a somewhat quiet and solemn voice "Why did you defect to the rebels?"
Her brows floated higher on her face the more questions this gem asked. She slowed to toss the now empty boxes into a trash bin, and scratched the back of her neck as she tried to process all the questions at once. Some of those questions she didn't even really have an answer for, but what most shocked her was the blatant asking of her motives; not that it offended her, but she'd been caught off guard by the personal question. Mind-boggled for a moment, she only gave a chuckle and shook her head,"You're a curious one! That's good,"
She continued toward the donut shop, and grabbed the handle of the door,"Well, I'll just show you the answer to all those questions in one place-- hands on experience is the best way to learn, I hear," She said in a light tone, and opened the door for the other gem, gesturing inside,"Go up to the counter, you'll see all the different kinds they have, and can pick out what you want. I have a bit of cash I can split with you," She smiled, and thought a bit on what she would tell this gem about why she rebelled. "As for why I rebelled...well, Earth is my home, and I don't like what I've seen loyalists doing to it," She gave a little shrug; the answer could be more complicated, certainly, but for now she'd keep her answer bare and simple. "Maybe you've seen a bit of what I have," Her eyes flicked to the side, remembering the fearful way the gem had reacted upon meeting her.
The human at the counter stood, drumming his fingers on the surface as the gems stood at the door.
Aquarius was kind of at odds with himself, part of him wanted to get this whole sorry state of affairs over and done with as soon as possible, there was another part of him, however, who wanted to see how this went. Though the aquamarine tried his best to ignore this unusually optimistic though bouncing around his cranium, he could help but feel compelled to draw the experience out for as long as he could in order to learn as much about the planet as he could. Well perhaps planet wasn't quite right, more like the human which roamed it's surface... no still not right, more like the humans which roamed it's surface and made food, that was it, the food.
Aquarius was stunned as he walked in, though he wasn't sure by what; yes it was the first time he had been inside a human structure, but it wasn't anything special, especially when compared to gem architecture. He then quickly gravitated to the the donuts that were on display at the store, giving Amethyst a very distracted "Sure." as he pressed his face against a glass and stared in wonder at the different donuts on display much like a child would and replied again in his distracted tone "I want all of them."
What did snap the aquamarine out of his little trance was Amethyst's answer to why she rebelled "Home..." He then chuckled a bit and gave he quite a melancholy look and spoke with a similar tone "I can't really say yet. To be honest i doubt i'd ever be able to say, I've never really felt at home anywhere, but i guess the foods nice enough." And for once, there were no questions from the gem, just this slightly depressing aura.
Her eyes widened as the gem asked for every donut in the shop. The cashier seemed to pause a moment, as if he too had been caught off guard by the request. Ame shoved her hand into her pocket, and pulled out the wad of bills she had accumulated from working the hockey arena over at Empire City. Rent at the Crystal Temple was free, and she didn't have to worry about starving without food-- but she had been saving up to get more amenities, like a phone so she could stay in touch with her fellow gem rebels, and her human friends. She grimaced, and scratched the back of her neck as she looked between Aquarius and the cashier,"Erm, I don't really have enough money to buy out the store," Then, she handed a green bill to the other gem in the room, giving a smile,"Here, this is twenty dollars. You can buy whatever you want, and keep the change,"
She thought about what Aquarius had said a moment longer after she had held out the bill for him to take, then let out a long sigh. "I think a lot of gems feel that way. They get deployed from colony to colony, drifting around, never staying in one place long. Homeworld wants us to think of, well...Homeworld, as our home. But how can I if I've never been?" She shrugged,"I've been on Earth my whole life, but I know some gems who just got here and feel the same about it," Her eyes drew out toward the shoreline, sunlight sparkling across the water as it gently rolled onto the glittering sand. It was hard for her to explain what exactly was so captivating about Earth,"There's something special about a world where life grows on its own, no injectors or kindergartens needed,"
Aquarius was in genuine disbelief, never in his existence had he imagined that an Amethyst was capable of such complex emotions, that ANY military gem had an advanced enough brain to feel anything over that base emotions. What the small gem hated most of all though, must have been how her word resonated within him, even if he refused to acknowledge it, her word had truths, strong truths, strong enough to once again shift the aquamarine out of his usual mindset. It reminded him too much of his past, he hated thinking about it, especially since the Amethyst's personality closely resembled that of another gem he had known, a long time ago.
Looking a few times between the purple gem, the money and the donuts, Aquarius felt a little stab in his chest, he looked down seeing no physical wound and deduced it must be mental. Looking again at the money in his hand, the small gem realised that the sensation came from the though of using the money he had been given, or at least a large amount of it. Taking a deep breath, the gem walked up to the counter and ordered only two donuts, one strawberry, and one chocolate, before walking over to the Amethyst somewhat awkwardly. He proceeded to hand her the chocolate donut and the subsequent change, before beginning to almost mutter "No, you keep it, it's yours." He then put on another genuine smile, his head struggling to keep control of his emotions as he replied with renewed vigour, stars in his eyes "Come on, you still need to show me around more! Where are we going next?"
Meanwhile: A slender, tall figure paced up and down a large turquoise room in a worried manner "W-what if he's been caught?! o-o-or shattered?! or caught AND shattered?!" The gem began hyperventilating and her theories began spiralling out of control, ranging from the freaky to the peculiar. Sighing heavily a smaller green gem removed he head from a cavity underneath a console "Oh please! We'd be so lucky." The taller gem immediately stopped and glared daggers and the small one, in response the petit gem raised her hands in an attempted to silently apologies "Look, all i'm saying is that that idiot is simultaneously the luckiest and unluckiest gem alive, saw he may get into trouble, but he'll survive to annoy another day." Seeing how her speech had done nothing to calm her companion the green gem sighed again "Look, if you're that worried, we go spy on him, we know he was last in the small town, he can't of gotten far, that sound good?" The tall, violet gem gave a small nod, tear's in he eyes, following the green gem out of the ship they were in.
