The modular ship’s engine hummed with such a soothing tone, that Hessonite found herself nearly relaxed as she sat in the command chair, leaning against her arm as she inelegantly lounged around, waiting for the ship to arrive on the planet’s surface. She had previously arrived at Pink Diamond’s moon base to put her gem in service to her new diamond, and frankly she wasn’t sure how she felt about that, remembering the classic salute, bow, and the description of her mission on earth – nothing. It certainly left her room to do her own research at the very least, though where she should start left her clueless, the modular ship entering earth’s atmosphere as she felt the ship rumble for a solid second, only for the inertial dampeners to kick in the second it was over. Ridiculous, that peridot should have fixed that by now, she’ll have to inform her manager of her incompetence. Regardless her screen finally blinked into existence as she reviewed the information presented to her, notably seeing that there was a dense population of ‘humans’ on the planet compared to other species. She had requested this information to choose a suitable landing site, and it seemed that a place called Beach city would be reasonable, as it was close to the rebel’s home base, there was a small population of humans, and she could conceal the ship with the terrain presented near the town itself while studying the other organic life for herself. She could also easily do recon from afar, though part of her thought how her diamond may be pleased if she were to destroy the rebels herself, though, best not to rush that.
Hessonite allowed the ship to choose the beach city coordinates, landing just afar from the original landing site which would’ve put her smack dab in the town itself. And so, her ship lowered from the sky with a whirl, from the direction of the forests that covered the back of the city. She hoped that the ships departure after she had departed would allow her to maintain a cover story that she wasn’t actually here, but who knows with these so-called rebels of the empire. Meanwhile the ship landed in the forest just afar from the town, and Hessonite found herself slowly getting up, her back straightening as she brought the screen with her by the palm of her hand, reading up further regarding the humans. She wondered if there was a way to blend in with the population instead of just spying from the hill, since they were nearly her color and size, and shared many resembling to gem kind in general, which was odd. Maybe if she focused hard, she could change the locations of her own colors, or maybe she could dress herself as a human, and excuse her color as some sort of biological defect.
She focused for only a moment, allowing her form’s clothing to rid itself of existence, only to form new, more tasteful clothing that resembled a classic golden sundress, her gloves remaining while her boots became slip-on shoes. However, her skin tone was still too orange to be considered human, and found herself annoyed by that fact. The rebels would easily recognize her if she encountered some, so clearly that wasn’t an option. Disgruntled, she reverted to her old form, allowing herself to maintain her stature as she saluted herself and closed her eyes, her original clothing coming back from the nonexistence it had been in just moments ago. With her eyes opening a moment later, she sighed with an aggressive tone, her arms lowering while one hand came to her chin, humming to herself as she pondered intensely. Eventually, Hessonite finally came to a conclusion; attempt the shapeshifting and see what could possibly happen, but first… Hessonite brought the screen up to her face, scrolling through the various information regarding humanity as she searched for specifics, especially what kind of human she should be. Her hue was a yellowish orange, so she looked for any specific human that could possibly fill her void, like... “This one certainly looks familiar.” She muttered, the human in question a pale mix between orange and yellow, notably called ‘Hispanic’. Nevertheless, she had found something that might work, and so she focused heavily this time, a small hum to her voice as she bowed her head, her hands up gripping air as she tried once, twice, and then the third time her gem began to rotate, her clothing disappearing as her basic form became a solid color of light, only to shrink as her form began to change, her uniform reappearing as she stopped shrinking, but her hair had grown to incredible lengths in the process. From there, she finally settled, finding herself completely surprised to find that obviously, she was closer to the floor than before.
“What in the stars…” She scoffed, observing her new form as she reviewed each detail, mostly her skin as she found herself confused by the hue. She wasn’t herself anymore, she was someone else entirely and that just was completely weird. She felt inferior now, puny, and frankly her cape was too large for her shoulders now, unclipping it from her chest as it dropped to the floor with the sound of rippling fabric. From there she began to stumble forward, her head far below the screen as she fell forward, completely confused as she landed on her face. How humiliating. She was much smaller then a human or, she was merely a child now in their case, pushing herself with a grunt as she reached up for the console, only for it to be out of her reach. Great. This was absolutely terrible. She nearly began to growl, but she sighed, allowing herself to breathe before she proceeded. This was a new experience, she just had to get used to it. Hessonite began to attempt to walk forward, her body structure wobbly as she held her hands out in front of her, completely confused by the sensation of the sensitive movements she had to make. Her legs weren’t as long as before, that was for sure, but she wouldn’t allow it to defeat her, getting better at walking easily before coming to a stop, proud of herself for adjusting to her new form.
“Well then, I suppose that’s that, but is there anything else I require for this transformation?” The now shrunken hessonite questioned, rubbing her chin while gazing toward the ceiling. However, the sound of her own voice made her become aware of the simple fact that there were two problems; first her gem, and then possibly her voice, but then again her voice might be normal for humans, though she would need to check anyways, snapping her fingers as her screen reappeared in front of her despite her shorter stature. With another swipe, she began to play audio files recorded by other gems regarding human noises, and found that younger ones, especially ones her size, had a higher voice tone, how peculiar. She began to test her voice, rambling to herself. “Well, this certainly is working out.” She began, but it was too high pitched. “Although it’s certainly annoying at the very least.” Too low now. “Frankly I probably should consider if I should change my outfit.” Oh, Perfect. Her voice matched that of the child in the audio file, mission success.
Now came the problem of her outfit, looking down as she tried to summon the dress she had worn earlier – to no effect. It seemed she was stuck with the outfit she had on, however her outfit had changed slightly, concealing her gem insignia on her stomach, and creating the appearance of leotard with a set of baggy shorts hugging her hips. She also now had long stockings along with slip on shoes, and her gloves had shortened considerably. It wasn’t the perfect outfit, but it certainly looked more human then her uniform. Now was the only problem of her gem, which was located on her back, and as she reached back to find it, she found herself surprised that it was now a simple sliver then the full gem, scoffing. It had completely rotated in another direction, which probably explained why she was short and had such long hair. Regardless, she had to do something about it, looking back to her cape on the floor as she sighed, crossing her arms while she decided if she should wear it, or not.
It was the only thing she had that was physical… Although… Hessonite began to feel up her hair, realizing that it was long enough to cover her gem, which meant she didn’t have to worry at all, at least until it was windy. However, she doubted it would come to that, and smirked in content as she began to walk toward the exit of the modular ship. She didn’t worry about the personality she had to present when she stepped outside, because surely humans were similar in that aspect as well. She barely reached up to the door button before it opened, revealing to her the beauty of the wilderness as she stepped out, eyes huge at the floral and trees that surrounded her, it was wonderful, what a lovely planet to colonize and take for the empire.
Of course, Hessonite knew that the beauty would be wiped away, but sometimes zoos were created for the purpose of displaying the organic life, and surely it would be like that for this wonderful world, as well. However, regardless of its beauty freezing her in a state of wonder, she refocused and clapped her hands, an automatic recall beginning as the ship lifted off, returning to orbit while she headed out into the forest, towards the town. Her new form gave her appreciation for being taller, being forced to walk through bushes and climb over logs as she made her way through, her curly hair getting tangled in the branches occasionally as she made her way out, eventually standing on the tip of the hill to observe the town through the trees. But, as she reached a clearing full of flowers, she simply had to stop and observe the beauty around her, going up to flowers and plucking them from the branches, keepsakes that she’d keep of the planet, despite most of them wilting. Though after a few minutes of flower picking, she moved forward onto the town, reaching the suburbs as she looked around, noting that there seemed to be a lack of humans her size, but an abundance of cars and taller humans around her. By now her hair was full of twigs and leaves, along with some flowers she stuck in her hair to store for later.
She was surprised to see that humanity had progressed so far despite their fate coming closer to the planet itself, and so she made her way across the street, watching for cars that she assumed may be weapons to shatter gems. Regardless, she walked through the town, getting looks as she pondered, why were they looking at her when she looked like one of them? Were humans naturally curious? Interesting. She still moved forward, and eventually she reached the boardwalk, her eyes looking all around as she observed the sea, the stores, and the rather primitive dock she was standing on as she came to a complete stop, looking toward a fast-food booth that a human and a supposed servant were communicating at.
They seemed to exchange something, a type of trade that Hessonite found herself curious in, walking forward as the human walked away from the booth with food in hand. When she herself reached the booth, the servant asked “Hello there, say why aren’t you at school?”
What was school?
“Oh, because….” Hessonite’s eyes drifted off, looking around her as she tried to find some sort of excuse. Nothing, there was nothing around her that could explain wasn’t at this school that he was talking about. She should’ve done more research regarding human customs.
“You know skipping school is bad, and where are your parents?” He continued, raising an eyebrow as he leaned against the counter, looking down at Hessonite. How dare he, she was a superior gem that commanded fleets of gems, what right did he have to… Wait, she was playing as a small human, of course he wouldn’t know that.
“Oh, they’re… Around there somewhere.” She replied simply, pointing toward her left. There was a abundance of humans over there, so she assumed she’d get away with that at the very least.
“Well, tell you what, if you promise not to skip school tomorrow, I’ll give you some fries, deal?” He replied, leaving the counter for a second with a grunt as he reached over and picked up a box of fries. They seemed like they had been prepared for someone else, but they must’ve forgotten them.
“Okay.” Hessonite replied, not sure what she was agreeing to. She must be receiving what the other human had, her hands reaching up over the counter as he came back, fries in hand while he handed them to her. “You be good, have fun!”
“Will do.” Hessonite replied simply, taking the box from his hands as she began to follow the steps of the other human, watching their every move. They seemed to be consuming their fries, and so Hessonite decided to do the same, opening the box as she walked and pulling out one of the fries, putting it in her mouth, and as the other human chewed, so did she.
Except, what did she do with it now? Hessonite watched as the human stopped chewing, but where did it go? Did these humans have containers in their bellies to store food? Hessonite decided to assume so, forming her own compartment in her stomach as she swallowed, the taste of the fry actually quite delicious and crunchy, which she could only feel the crunchy part. As she looked around though, she wasn’t sure what else to do, finding a bench and sitting down on the seat in question, looking towards the waves. The humans of this planet didn’t seem too hostile so far, so they were probably easy to wipe out. Meanwhile Hessonite continued to eat on her fries, her short legs kicking forward and back as she tried to mimic another human sitting nearby.
