Fellow member Fuscite had an idea that would actually be plausible and pretty cool. The idea was adding AI to the Homeworld Gems' arsenal, (Not saying that some couldn't be loyal to the Crystal Gems) and he had some pretty good reasons as to why they would exist.
For one, Homeworld has obviously been experimenting and using robotics for a while (Peridot's limbs, plug robonoids, injectors), so it would make sense for them to experiment in synthetic AI. Another reason is: Who wouldn't like to have servants you could create? They could be created, their personalities chosen or made, and they could be tangible. They could contain knowledge and be helpful, but have no physical form. (Like Cortana) They would simply be stored into a little synthetic shard.
I'll get into detail on them physically now. All AI are synthetic gems. They would be stored in little shards so that they would be portable and easy to carry around. They would be data, kinda like thumb drives. They could be plugged into consoles to control machinery or technology, but would be unable to physically interact with anything that isn't technological or that they aren't somehow connected to. They could be put into little machinery like Flask Robonoids so that they could move around and stick with their master. (Or whatever their owner wants to be called.)
There would also be different types of AI. For example, if someone owned multiple AIs, they would most likely not want to deal with keeping up with all of them. To deal with this, they could get a Synthetic Diamond. Synthetic Diamonds would essentially be managers, keeping up with all the other AI for their owner. Then the rest would pretty much be random, no specific shard doing a specific task. There could be medical AI, combat AI, tactical AI, effectively whatever you need.
The original idea was created by Fuscite, with Musgravite, Fuscite, and I adding onto it over time.
