Steven Universe Space Adventure!
Prologue:
In the beginning, there was a planet called Aes, on which a race of beings known as the Aesii, or Metals, grew and developed. They were humanoids who had bodies almost of precious metals, and who were great wizards and scientists. They were so powerful, in fact, that they were
rumored to have created gold from nothing (although this was later proven false, as the Metals had simply created a device for finding gold faster, thus producing bigger amounts of it.)
They eventually became the dominant species in the galaxy, and set out in search of other planets to colonize and mine for gold. They soon found a habitable planet not far from their own, which was empty; no sooner had they conquered the world than they realized that sending their own workers was too risky.
The ruler of the Metals then approached the leading sages and alchemists and wise men of the kingdom to build for him a perfect worker, made of solid crystal so durable that not even their adamant weapons could cleave it. Out of all those who tried, only one man succeeded: an aged fellow by the name of Aurós. Using his best magic, he breathed into being a creature he called a Crystal Gem. It was humanoid like the Metals, but much more able to withstand harsh mining conditions and all sorts of weather. The first one was rough and carved from diamond; Aurós (whose name meant Gold) named it Adamantus (their ancient word for a diamond that was uncut and unpolished.) It performed its work well, and thus gold was produced and sold with unprecedented ease.
Over time, more and more Gems were sent over, and slowly they were given sentience. After ten years had passed, Gems could think for themselves, and established communities on the planet, which, appropriately enough, they began to call their “Homeworld.”
Still more time passed, and the Gems--being able now to reason and sustain themselves--clamored for liberty, for they were being treated as inanimate machines, not beings with brains and souls. The Metal government, which by now had understandably gotten corrupt to the point of making Earth despots like Caligula and Nero blush, at first paid them no mind, as they were miles away on another planet. However, once the people at home began to hear of /this clamor, the ruler sent forth an immense army to combat the rebellious Gems. The Metal forces, however, were slothful and ill-equipped, as Aes had not known war for aeons; the Gems, with their tools and concepts of magic and alchemy, easily defeated them. The ruler, not wanting to waste money on a would-be useless endeavour, granted the Crystal Gems independence soon after, and managed to retain trading rights with them.
So two societies co-existed together. The Gems, who freely borrowed and adapted things from the Metals, flourished, as the Metals declined. Intermarriage was common, and half-Metal, half-Gem offspring increasingly so.
About five hundred years after the War for the Homeworld (as it was jingoistically called), a new Gem regime took hold by forcing the reigning Gem ruler out on trumped-up charges.
This new regime, which we on Earth would come to know as “fascist,” upheld a set of ideals not unlike those of Nazism. These Gems deemed Metals and half-Metals as “impure,” and openly sought to destroy them. A genocidal campaign was launched, and the entire Metal race was stamped out, save for one little half-Metal, half-Gem, a young man known as Aurós, who was named for his grandfather, the inventor of the Gems. Taking all his possessions, he took a Gem ship and sailed the galaxy for a maddeningly tedious amount of time until he espied a blue planet which had been explored by the Gems, and on which they had left some semblance of Gem civilization. He made it his destiny to live there, to escape the horrors of war.
Not to say that all the Gems agreed with their leaders. In fact, many disagreed, and many met the adamant blades of Gem executioners for publicly opposing their rulers.
Out of all the opposing Gems, only three survived the onslaught. Their names were Rose Quartz, Pearl, and Garnet, and they headed towards a blue planet once occupied by Gems but logn deserted.
And this is where our story begins….
