The meteorite hurtled through the cold dark depths of space, the only sign of life being a small blinking red light that could be glimpsed on the worn remains of a Homeworld beacon. The customized Kindergarten equipment had long ago been broken off by stray space debris, but it's purpose had already been accomplished before it's imminent demise. In the blackness of the galaxy with only the twinkling stars for company the meteor continued on it's path...waiting...waiting for what exactly no one knew, not even the precious cargo stored safely within it's depths. Perhaps it would have drifted forever, it's occupant asleep for all time like some stellar nova sleeping beauty. Such a fate would have been what the diamonds would have preferred for it,had they been aware it still lived on untouched by time. At least that is till a pale blue dot interfered.
-Gravitational Pull Detected-
-Impact imminent-
Sluggishly the computer, so long in standby mode, whirled to life as it's sensors detected the looming planet. How long had it been adrift? Why had it's makers not come to collect it? If they did not intercede soon they would risk entering the planetary atmosphere.
-Meteor to Base. Requesting Activation of Retrieval Protocol.-
But nothing reached it's sensors, but galactic static, the great sound of the universe looming empty and large.
-Meteor to Base. Requesting Activation of Retrieval Protocol. Meteor to Base. Come In Base-
Silence...Silence filled the computers signal as the growing realization that it was completely and utterly alone began to weigh heavy on it's processor. Only one protocol remained loud and clear.
-Activating Preservation Protocols-
It had been built for one purpose and one purpose alone, to guard it's precious cargo. How long had the gem slept in it's care? Listless and unaware, it's only companion in this vast universe. True the computer knew one day it must relinquish it's cargo, that the gem it guarded would wake and venture beyond it's protective confines, but if it did not succeed the gem would not wake at all. The computer had so hoped it would function to see it's purpose awaken, but now it knew that that would never be the case. Entering the planets Exosphere it activated the small propulsion jets that lined the out layer of the Meteorite funneling the lasts of it's power to soften what was sure to be an earth shattering crash.
-Entering Exosphere. Power at 70%-
It hoped the gem would survive cushioned within it's own stasis field within the hollow core.
-Entering Thermosphere. Power at 50%. Thrusters holding-
It knew not where it's makers where, but it hoped they were proud of it.
-Entering Stratosphere. Power at 20%. Main Thrusters lost.-
The outside was heating now, the ground was looming as it's equipment began to burn away, having only been built to handle space rather then re-entry.
-Entering Tropospehre. Power at 10%. All Thrusters Lost.-
-Impact In Five...

-Goodbye Moissanite-
With the screaming of super heater rock and metal the meteorite plowed into the once peaceful flower dotted field, the smell of burning ozone following it as it skid. The earth and rock around it melted, sizzling, and popping from impact as smoke plumed like a comets tail high into the sky. With a growling rumbling crunch like some great heaving giant it finally came to rest with a soft hiss as the breeze caressed and cooled it's outer layer. Inside the last remnants of power flickered as the field that had so carefully held the gem within aloft died, letting the gleaming jewel fall to the soft warm bed of it's stellar cradle with a gentle tink.
