Deep into the Kindergarden lay a shack made from corrugated metal and old wood. If anyone had seen it previously they'd note it had changed slightly, the addition of power tools made the structure more stable and less... full of holes. Inside an old, mostly unused warp pad activates, revealing two gems.
"Well, here we are! My home away from home. It's uhm... not much." He gestured towards the interior, mostly made of shelves covered in random human (and now gem) knick-knacks. That, and a small bed made from a mattress and planks nailed together. "It may not be much but it's mine, very few gems know about this place. As much as I can gather, this pad is unused. I only found it because I was traveling by here."
He took a look around, moving a snow globe that was out of place. Picking up a fallen newspaper off the floor. "Well uh..." He felt a little awkward, he wasn't used to entertaining guests, "feel free to look around? Or we can go find a drill to blow up." He then stood by the door and just waited for her to be ready.

Carbide blinked as the column of cyan light dissipated around her and the musically mechanical hum of gem tech subsided. She stepped off the warp pad in the center of a wood and tin metal dwelling, the eerie stillness and shadows of defunct kindergarten sites always affecting her in an uncomfortable sense at first, and this place was no exception. The stillness of the air outside and the reach of the shadows and the feel of the depleted earth beneath her feet, all seeming to leech right through the walls of the house and tickle the back of her mind. She pauses for a moment, worrying Agate was neglecting himself by living out here, but her expression softens as she sees the collection of laid out gem tech, some obsolete, some current, and some just plain broken, as well as the menagerie of human kick-knacks and clothes and miscellania. At least he seemed to be comfortable here, and from how quiet it was outside, he was likely safe from being disturbed by unwanted guests.
"Gotta say, you've got quite the collection going here Mr Agate, didn't expect you to be such a purveyor of this n that." She strides towards the door with a relaxed grin and steps back out into the night beside him. "Okay, well then, lets hunt for something that ll make a real good boom, when hit, and give you a whole new stack of bits of gem tech for you to line your shelves with Kid!"
Agate led Carbide around the cavern walls of the Kindergarten, first gesturing towards a fallen gem drill next to his house, "Well, there IS a drill right there but I think blowing that one up so close to the house would cause some uh... collateral damage..." He continued down the winding pathways, visibly uncomfortable. He kept looking behind his back and watching each crevice they walked by, as if he was watching for something dangerous. "There's bound to be..." he stopped suddenly, he was still looking but it looked as if he was focusing on a distant object. "Quick! This way!" suddenly he was sprinting forward ahead, either away from something or towards something unseen.
A few minutes later a gem drill came into view in the distance, standing vertical on the mostly flat floor of the Kindergarten. As they got closer it became clear the gem was mostly intact, except for pieces missing from the top of it. Once they reached the base of the drill Agate stops and examines it shortly, "Hmm... this should work!" he turned towards Carbide, "Care to summon that boom stick of yours and give us a show?" he quickly stepped away from the drill and sat on one of the many rocks scattered around, excitedly clutching his legs to his chest.

Carbide follows her host through the winding chasms of the kindergarten, stopping here and there to look about and sometimes dashing when he seemd to squint into the distance or darkness, before long coming to an Era-One Injector drill standing derelict a good distance away from the hut. "Hmm, a fine choice Monsieur Agate, all sortsa goodies in here, and if you're worried about making noise and dragging a bunch of attention towards your house, we should be more than far enough away to keep it out of the equation."
She watches him perch on top of the boulder like some sort of large blue parakeet, then takes a few steps forward, eyeing up her target, now sitting about 50 yards off. No Poncho or pack to discard this time, she's left them back at Agate's house, she takes a slower step forward, while letting out a breath, her height growing by an inch or two as she re summons her gem boots for a bit of traction, her transparent visor making a quavering sound as it expands to cover her whole face, as well as some similar plates, one covering and protecting her upper chest, and smaller oblong discs materializing over her fingers, knuckles and back of her hand on her gloves, she turns to Agate once more briefly, wiggling her fingers and tapping the full face visor.. "Safety first when dealing with flying debris, am I right?"
Turning back to the drill she trails a hand behind her head, as if grabbing an invisible sword from a scabbard on her back, drawing it over her shoulder, grasping a trail of light that humms and crackles, quickly solidifying into the ballistic cudgel which she allows to settle into a comfy spot against her left hip, the star on its domed breach reflecting the moonlight, and its muzzle brake leveling at the drill. No great song or dance follows, just a more serious expression settling over Carbides face as she wiggles her boots into the gravel, lowers her stance and seems to grip the handles tighter. The cannon's geared ring rotates once, with a mechanical clank and then a light and a flash, followed by a serious metallic BOOM that would probably cause even nearby gems to flinch or blink, driving Carbide back a foot or so, her grippy boots dragging a path into the dirt.
No scatter shot this time, no room for error, just one stationary target, perfect for a piercing explosive hard light shell that cuts the air like a ground level thunder clap, impacting the heavy casing of the drill and caving it in with a sickly metallic crunch, leaving a glowing molten ring in the center where the shell breached the metal, sending the drill toppling like a mechanical rag doll spider, or a human hit with a medicine ball thrown by a gorilla. The drill spins once, landing on its side in a broken heap a few good yards from where it stood, then flies apart with a boom all its own ejecting portions of the drill's hull and inner workings, as the shell lodged inside releases its energy. this whole process occurring in the span of a second or two.
Carbide sinks to her knees, leaning against her weapon in the dirt, drawing breath a little quicker, as she pulls herself back upright with the cudgel's handles...."WOOOOOO!" one fist raises to the air, as a few bolts bounce off her face plate....
Agate chuckles as Carbide summons protective gear, even gems had to be safe it seems. He held his breath as Carbide drew up her cannon and fired at the gem. As the cannon boomed he nearly fell backwards off the rock, catching himself just barely. He watched in awe as the drill toppled over and exploded in a big loud BOOM! He'd never seen anything like this, except in movies of course. Now he was REALLY glad she was on his side, her weapon was amazing!
After the drill exploded Agate jumped up with his arms raised above his head, "That was AWESOME! I can't believe how lucky you are to have such a cool weapon! That gem drill didn't stand a ch-" suddenly he was cut off. From behind the rock what appeared to be a whip raised while Agate was talking and smacked him in the back. He was by no means expecting an attack, and due to his elevated position, he went flying across and smacked face first straight into the fallen remains of the drill. He lay there for a few moments, exclaiming something along the lines of 'Eugh...'
From behind the rock a corrupted gem skittered up. It looked similar to a crab save for two tentacles instead of claws and only four legs. The creature reared onto its hind legs and screeched, a corrupted red gem visible on its bottom side. It rushed forward to finish off the dazed gem it threw across the way.

Carbide lifts her head and brushes herself off, turning to face the spot where Agate had been sitting, "Well, I hope that was everything you'd hoped it would be Aga....!!".. only to find him sailing past her field of view, landing like a sack of gravel on top of the wrecked drill. Whirling around she spots the gem monster, its crimson gem core standing out like an angry ember in the dark.
"Oh $@&# all kinds of duck!" she exclaims, heaving the now empty cannon while she started focusing energy in her gem for a new shell..but this would take time. Weapon in hand she breaks out in a full on dash at the creature, her voice roaring out from under the visor.. "HEY YOU DEFECTIVE BOULDER, CATCH!!" She pivots hard mid-stride and sends her weapon spinning though the air like a clumsy metallic boomerang straight at the gem monster. The collision makes it stop in its tracks, as the cannon thumps hard into its body, with its whip like arms, quickly wrapping about the offending object, as it deals with the sudden hard inertia.
As the cannon spins through the air Carbide boosts into a sprint after it, nearly keeping up, arriving at her target, the gem creature's legs. She digs her boot into the ground and launches a plated knuckle punch hard into the creatures main leg joint, or knee, if you prefer.. the impact sends a shock through Carbide's arm down her body and cracks the ground under her foot, but does worse to the gem monster, who finds its knee joint buckled with a crunch. The creature screeches, suddenly finding itself with a very tender additional 90 degrees to its range of motion in its wrecked leg.. "AAAAaAAAAaaagatee! If you're not dead, now would be a good time to get up, get out, or maybe ADDRESS THIS CREATURE'S ACUTE ARROW DEFICIENCY! I don't have enough magic charged up for another shell yetttt!".. she shouts in his general direction as she hops on top of what would turn out to be a very ticked off 'rodeo' creature, engaged in a tug of war for her cannon, to keep its long arms occupied.
After a few moments Agate's head cleared and he picked himself off the ground. His entire body was wracked with pain from smacking into the solid metal of the drill. Suddenly he heard 'AAAAaAAAAaaagatee!' and turned to see Carbide grappling with the creature. He forced himself to ignore the pain, feeling a familiar positive energy inside himself almost numbing the pain. He focused, right now he had to help or Carbide could get poofed. Or worse. He summoned his bow without any flair, keeping his elevated position on the drill. He wouldn't need to be close to hit such a big target.
Agate brought his bow up to aim, pulling the string back summoning an arrow. Within a few seconds he launched a dozen arrow towards the creature, each streaking with pinpoint accuracy towards the corrupt gem. The arrows either bounced off the creature's upper shell harmlessly or didn't penetrate far enough to deal any real damage. He paused to think, his attack didn't even make the monster flinch. Then he noticed the creature's underside was made of a different, presumably softer, material. He brought his bow back up and waited, aiming for the right moment to strike its belly. A few seconds later he let it loose and the arrow struck home in the monster's side. It screeched in pain and attempted to retreat from Carbide, briefly stumbling from its broken leg and flashing its gem stone.
An idea occurred to Agate, Aim for the gem. He shook his head, clearing his mind. Not again. Not if it could be helped. He called out, "Carbide! Try and pin it on its back, its bottom is softer!" He added on a second after, "Don't damage its gem!" He then ran forward to get a better advantage point to fire on the creature.

Carbide hangs there from her entangled weapon, the bottom half of her visor unsummoned, and biting on one of the whip like arms.... *Muffled* "RAR! RAR! RAR! RARRR!" .. when she feels the creature buck as Agate's arrow finds a soft spot on its 'boiler room' and she falls, landing on her butt on the rocks with a hard thump, growling in a frustrated manner as she lets her weapon disappear into a flash and a pop, leaving the creatures whip like arms empty and suddenly tangled in one another..
She listens to him call out the battle plan to pin it on its back, although remains perplexed at his cry to not damage the Creature's gem.. "Rrrrr... okay Kid, we'll do it your way" Carbide drops to one knee and reaches back, summoning a new Cannnon and swinging it nightstick style by its handle in a wide haymaker that clunks heavily into the creatures side, making it howl, allowing the momentum to spin her around, following the arc into a vertical overhead smash that lands on the tip of the creature's other front foot, the weapons connecting like a club, makes the creature rear up in surprise and pain.
"Time to ring the bells, ugly!" She roars, almost sounding a lil too into-it, and lets the weapon settle back along her arm, muzzle to the ground, star embossed breach directed to the creature *"dang" she thinks to herself..."still not enough magic for a full on shell.."* ..."Okay you noisy gravel pile, time to learn that 'firing blanks' can still be plenty dangerous!" She focuses a portion of the magic she had regenerated into her weapon, making it ratchet and humm as a 'blank' is manifested in the cannons breach. She readies herself, ducks a whip strike and dashes back a pace or two then charges in, and under the creature. "I heard this one on an fighting simulator at the Beach City recreation hall when I first hit town..SHORYUKEN!!!!"
She drives the butt of the cannon up in a hard strike, setting off the blank shot which echoes and rings through the canyon, its shockwave blasting the dirt and raising a huge cloud of dust, rocketing the weapon's breach up into the creatures 'chin' in a wicked, blast-assisted pile driver punch, making the already teetering creature lurch upward and fall heavily onto its back, legs flailing ineffectually, its gem exposed and blazing angrily..greeted by Carbide, riding her cannon back down, almost like a big pogo stick, landing the muzzle brake on the monster's belly, leaving it utterly winded. "Okay, what now, oh man with the plan?!!" she calls to Agate as she jumps free from the creatures belly, weapon slung across her back as she clears the area, sinking her fingers into the cliff wall, the cannon tucked under her arm in an overhand grip as she watches from her vantage point..
Agate watched Carbide maneuver around the monster, more than a little impressed how skilled she was with such a large weapon. He readied himself on a tall rock close by, waiting for the right moment to strike. That moment came as Carbide performed what looked like a massive upper cut, causing the monster to fell onto its back, followed by a slam winding the creature. He raised his bow and unleashed another dozen arrows at the monster, this time each finding their way into the relatively soft underbelly of the crab creature. But still it stood.
Desummoning his weapon Agate ran forward, pulling a metal rapier from his belt. He'd never used the thing in actual combat, but he hoped it wouldn't fail him. He spoke as he ran forward, "We just have to hurt it enough till it poofs!" he continued his charge, closing the distance as fast as he could manage. By now the creature was panicking, flinging its tentacles around randomly and kicking its legs out. As Agate drew closer its now injured tentacle glanced him, temporarily throwing him off balance. Agate barely managed to dodge a second swing, getting back on his feet and finally closing the distance between him and the monster.
Agate leaped up, gripping his sword in both hands, plunging his sword downward at the soft belly of the corrupted gem. He made sure to avoid the gem, plunging the sharp-tipped rapier deep into the belly of the beast. It let out a loud screech before suddenly poofing, leaving nothing but a corrupted red gem and Agate hurtling to the ground. He dropped his sword as he fell, groaning in pain. "Eugh... that was harder than I thought it would be..." after a minute he managed to stand back up, grunting with the effort. He walked over and picked up the corrupted gem, examining it. Thankfully it was unharmed.
He gave a long sigh, both from relief and exhaustion. He turned and grinned at Carbide, "Well, we did it. We beat it AND did it without breaking its gem." he paused, "Thanks. I know it would have been easier to smash its gem but... a friend once told me there was another way." His smile grew sad, as if he was thinking on a bitter-sweet memory. He looked at the gem again and focused. Moving his hands together he closed his eyes and did as he was taught a long time ago. Well. Six months ago. A bubble appeared around the gem, which now floated between his hands. He cracked a big smile and mumbled to himself, "I did it Obsidian..."

Carbide tilts her head, watching Agate handle the gem as she walks up, her weapon sparkling and disappearing as she lays a hand on his shoulder, giving it a pat, hopefully not making his sore after his collision with the wrecked drill. "Well done Agate, I was worried you might be seeing stars for a while yet, but you really pulled it together, you're spot on with that bow."
She surveys the battle sight, allowing the transparent plates on her hands and chest to fade away, turning back and noticing Agate's sudden morose mood and how he seems to be handling the corrupted gem like a precious artifact as he bubbles it and warps it away. "Hey, are you alright, I mean, I know that a gem like you must be feeling some physical hurt after a hard knock like that, but you seem kinda distant, like ya just put a personal demon to bed.. Anything you wanna talk about? Fights, especially to new gems can be a lot to process after the fact. It was very noble of you to not resort to shattering the gem for good. Umm.. who's Obsidian, or is that a story for later on, when you're ready?"
Carbide kinda hugs one of her own arms to her side, not quite knowing what to do or say.. "Well, there sure seems to be a good scatter of bits of gem tech around now.. although you kinda got to see it up close and personal real hard and fast there.. merf.."
Agate hesitated, staring ahead and refusing to look up as he debated whether or not to talk about what was on his mind. What had been on his mind since meeting Carbide. He sighed and looked up at Carbide for a few moments before chuckling to himself. "Just, thinking about an old friend." he laughed again, "Well, I say 'old' but really it was only a few months ago. Feels like forever ago though..." He stopped and looked around at the mess around them. "Maybe I can tell you the story once we get back to my house, it's kind of a long story." He turned and spent a few minutes searching through the gem rubble, picking up a interesting piece of scrap and began to lead the way back in silence.
Once they reached his shack he set the piece of tech on a shelf. Notably, the bubbled corrupted gem was floating inside the house at the highest point inside the house. Agate pulled out a couple chairs by a small coffee table and retrieved two bags of chips from a cooler under the shelf. He offered Carbide a bag and sat down, munching of the chips as he prepared to tell his story.
Agate set the bag down and cleared his throat, "Alright. Like I said, I first emerged here. I was alone and thought I was the only gem alive. It wasn't until some... 'unique' events occurred that I found out I wasn't so alone. It was great, but I also learned about a lot of the bad. Corrupted gems, gem conflict, etc. The first two gems I made friends with were Mr. O, my Mr. friend I spoke about, and a gem named Obsidian." he paused briefly, remembering his first encounter with them, "I didn't know it at the time, but they were very different. They were basically on two opposite sides of the conflict, and had VERY different ideas on corrupted gems. Later that day a corrupted gem attacked Obsidian and poofed her. Luckily Mr. O and I were able to fight it off, but..." he paused again, his smile was gone by this point.
He took a deep, unnecessary breath, "I didn't understand how gem stuff worked back then, at least not fully. Mr. O told me there was no way to help corrupted gems. That shattering them was a mercy. Not knowing better, I did so. I took his weapon and smashed the creature's gem." he gripped his leg, staring at the table as he continued, "Once Obsidian regenerated we parted ways with Mr. O and went on our own way. She explained to me about bubbling, and how corrupted gems might be cured on day. I felt awful." he looked up at Carbide, "I felt like I murdered some innocent person. I felt like I let her down. She never said it, but it was clear she wished we had bubbled the gem instead of smashing it. Instead of ME smashing it."
He looked away again, "I never saw her again. I still have no idea what happened to her. She was going to teach me about 'fusing' but..." he choked briefly, "but she just left. Maybe she was shattered, or maybe she just couldn't stand someone who killed a innocent gem..." his last few words grew faint as he wiped his eyes with his sleeve.
(( Sorry this was a bit wordy, leaving it here so Carbide can react and so I don't make this 600 words XD

Carbide walks along side Agate on the way back to his hut, slowing her strides slightly so her longer gait didn't overtake his. Back at the hut she settles into place on a chair, accepting the small bag of chips, ketchup, her favorite. She was licking the last bit of seasoning from her fingers when she eyed him looking ready to tell his story. As he spoke she remained quiet, just listening and sometimes remembering some of her own hairy moments from shortly after she emerged in a Blue Diamond test Kindergarten on home world.
She listened to his story unfold, saddened by the unfolding events, although not precisely surprised at what he described. Then came the name, "Mr. O" and her ears really perked up and her gaze narrowed in equal measure but she remained silent, it wasn't her place to interrupt his story. She watched his gaze drift off and all the subtle behaviors of a gem on the edge of needing to 'let it out'.
"I'm sorry Agate, it was far too soon for you to be put into such a scenario, much less one where you were pressured into such a..decisive course of action, without knowing all possible options, especially since the creature was incapacitated. Its once thing if a hard strike shatters a gem during a life or death fight, its another when its just .. there.. right before you." She pauses, silent, having been in remarkably similar situations on a few different occasions. "I don't know just what causes gem corruption, or how or if a cure can be found, but for what its worth, I think its always worth a try." She gazes up at the crimson gem, floating among the rafters of the small house. There had certainly been times when she felt abandoned, given up for shattered or without help for long periods of time while serving the Gem Empire on their fringe worlds.
She bites her lip a bit then decides that she has to do a lil digging.. could it really be 'Him' again after almost a millennium?? "This Mr. O gem you mentioned, I hate to bring him up, but...Im hoping the universe isn't about to get as small as I think it is..But is he an Opalite? One who can, seem like an over theatrical performer with a...almost jovial attitude towards his own authority and credibility, but hiding grim, fatalistic stripe a mile wide, when you rub him the wrong way? There cant be too m many gems out there with the name and behaviors that I'm thinking of. And if this gem is who I think it is, then I'm glad to learn he's here before he learns I am."
She watches him wipe his eyes, and reaches over to her pack and retrieves the poncho again, scooting over until she can wrap it over the smaller gems shoulders, giving him a little nod.
Agate dried his eyes and a small smile returned on his face, "Thanks. It feels good to get that off my chest. I just hope she'd be proud of what we did back there." he hugged the poncho over himself then looked up at Carbide, a little surprised. "You know Opalite? I mean, you HAVE to be talking about the same gem. That's pretty much him to a T. Well... I have no clue what you mean by a 'fatalistic streak' but everything else fits." It was odd to him that the last few homeworld gems he met had known Mr. O in some way. Was he important back there?
Something else occurred to him, "So why is it a good thing you know he's here before he finds you?" Awful doubts creeped in on his mind again, "You're friends, right? Or at least, knew each other at some point?" Agate almost sounded worried at that point, although it's unclear about who.

Carbide sighs and lets her shoulders drop in a slight huff, so it was him after all..her eyes return to focusing on the here and now, noticing thesudden angst spreading across Agate's face and raises her hands and sweeps them back and forth. "Oh! No No!" After the fight and the emotional fallout, she doesn't want to get him worked up with worry. "Okay, look, Opalite was my mission handler for Yellow Diamond division, for quite a long time. He was officially under the White Diamond Division, but those white diamond types seem to be able to crowbar themselves in wherever.. Hehe, kinda reduculous when ya think of it, the Heavy Planetary Scout project was.. Dreamed up by the Yellows, developed by the Blues, but in the end, it was a White that was my coordinator. Anyway, while we never came directly to blows.. mainly because I was pretty scared I'd end up shattered or left on some dead rock in space somewhere..rrrf.. anyway, it would be kinda like running into your old boss unexpectedly on a day where thats the last thing you need."
"There IS a quite a history between he and I, when we agreed on certain courses of action, a lot got done, but if he hasnt changed much, id say hes still very much a delegator as opposed to a field gem, shall we say.. that and his rediculous hat, ARG!" Carbide sinks to her knees with a bit of a burnt out glassy expression on her face.
"If it helps, I promise I won't punch him in the face.. while in your house, promise. He MAY.. MAY have been a party involved in my lil - you can't quit, you're fired.. you can't fire me, I quit-, scenario." She bites her bottom lip, a pair of touch stumps tentatively rubbing over the pair of scuff marks on her left cheek, a sweat bead dripping down her forehead, under the visor.
Agate looked over at Carbide, his doubts clearing. He refused to believe Opalite could be a bad gem. At least, not anymore. He was his friend, he could trust him. He listened to Carbide as she sank down and seemed lost in her head. Agate put his hand on her shoulder, positive energy transferring through it, "Hey, it's alright. Whatever fighting happened between the two of you, that's in the past. He's changed, he's a good gem. And he's my friend. You're my friend. I'm sure if you find each other, you can just... talk." Maybe it was just hopeful thinking, but he believed, no he knew Opalite was a good gem. And so was Carbide. Maybe they wouldn't be friends, but they should be far from enemies.
Agate pulled Carbide back up, as best as he could, and gave her a smile. "I don't let bad things happen to my friends, alright? You and Opalite are just going to have to work things out if you ever meet again. Or else." He gave a wink, as if he could hurt either of them. The thought almost made him laugh. Almost.
Melody: how are you doing? Are you going to make a character in here?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
