So I'm just posting this here to get some ideas straight and to see what others might think.
So for those of you who have heard the outro song, as CN cuts it off with credits usually, you'll know it as "Love Like You" but there's also "Nothing Like You" which appears to technically be the same song but is very different. In case you haven't heard it, here is the two songs put together.
So, there's a lot of different versions as well, each after different episodes in the series. The full compilation with explanations is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwMqjdgKw38
So now, here's the theory part. It's assumed the vocals are from a character in the show, referring to Steven. However the tone and lyrics of "Nothing Like You" are incredibly different than "Love Like You" and occurs only later into the series, close to the introduction of the new homeworld gems. It's also clear that the outros reflect the show evolving, as one of them is just static after "The Message" episode. It isn't until Jailbreak, when Steven really proves himself, do we get the vocals for "Love Like You"
Now, what's special in this episode is that Steven did his first real gem heroics and inspired Garnet to fight Jasper, and win. So let's assume, "Love Like You" is finished here at the end of Season 1 and refers to the Crystal Gems talking about Steven.
What about "Nothing Like You"? It doesn't seem to fit any of the Crystal Gems, save for *maybe* Amethyst. The interesting part though, is that the intro for it is actually from "Cry for Help" which has Peridot trying to get help from Homeworld. Then the following episode is the actual lyrics. Now here is the minor spoiler territory. As we know now after our fourth Steven Bomb Peridot has sided with the Crystal Gems, despite some rough parts in their relationships. She's had a hard time adjusting to their culture, though she has made an effort she has always been embarrassed to be having such difficulties.
It also seems "Nothing Like You" ends abruptly, and so far has not had a continuation (that we can tell because CN cuts off the intro). But perhaps in the coming episodes we'll get the next part. Anyways, I think "Nothing Like You" is Peridot singing about Steven. She had no idea what Homeworld was doing was evil, from their perspective. But perhaps she always had doubts, as she acts strangely around Jasper. The reason I wonder is the lyrics, "I always thought I might be bad, but now I'm sure that it's true. Because I think you're so good, and I'm nothing like you." Yes that's the entire song basically, but what if she sees Steven is the good guy and her doubts have surfaced, that she was the villain. Maybe these outro songs are reflecting each of the seasons. Season 1 being the gems becoming a more solid team thanks to Steven, and now Season 2 with Peridot's redemption.
Anyways, that's my thoughts. 500+ words of my rambling. I mostly just wanted to get this "down on paper" as it were. But curious what everyone else might think, or what theories they have.
