The the big, black (alien) feline ( closer to a Thanator than an Earth panther, but close enough) jumped roof to roof, with a big sport bag on his back The city of the humans become to noisy Morion always felt himself more home in the untamed wilderness than in the cities He could be... well.... himself there. Nobody judges a predator there for beeing a predator, hunting, stalking... or just lounging in the shadows, or stretching in the sun, dozeing. He left behind the lights and noises of the city and disappeared in the darkness of the night, runing, jumping among the trees In a little glade, where he finally can't hear the noises of the Human civilisation, nor his inner demons voices, the Gem shapshifted to his human form But tonight it was different No armour No cloak or hood No mask, no nothing Just the Gem in boxer shorts. In his way, he already hunted down several fishes in a nearby river, and now, after seting up a little campfire, he was just sitting there Fishes roasting on the broaches, the sky was clear and full of stars, unfamailar constellations. The New Moon was bearly visible. From the bag, he took out his guitar, and after tuning it, the sound of the strings broke the silence of the Night
Spider liked sleep sometimes... She knew it was a human thing to do, but sometimes she just couldn't sleep. No matter how hard she tried. When she couldn't sleep she went for walks. Mostly in the forest or on the beach where she set up her hammock. Tonight, it was the forest and it seemed like she wasn't alone.
First, she heard the music. The slow nostalgic tune made her pause and look around. She eyed the tree line and slowly started following the sound, being careful to not make a ton of noise. She didn't want to scare the person, or thing, making the music. It wasn't hard to find the little camp when the light came into view.
She pushed the foliage apart just as the final chords echoed in the forest, and Spider stood there looking at the almost naked gem with the gutiar in his hands. Cooking what smelled like fish on the fire. Red eyes lingered on the gem, noting that he looked familiar... He looked like the suck up she had been on the beach beforehand, while her green eyes looked around and tried to spot any traps.
Nothing looked like a trap... And honestly, she doubted he something set up when he was half naked.
Morion was so immersed in the music, he didn't noticed the other Gem Until she accosted him For a moment, the Smoky Quartz froze He was careless So much for the professionalism... She could have been a Rebel and now he would be in a bubble Or worse! He would be in shattered pieces Never again! Tho... in the middle of his inner storm a silent vice whispered: You would deserve it, butcher... you know it! Morion shakes his head, and let his grey, long hair to hide most of his face... or... the lack of it. He never paid attention to his real face, so his facial features weren't so elaborated. He never needed them to be, wearing mask all the time, or impersonating someone else afther he stoled his or her features, or be in a nonhuman form... it seemed a waste of time, to bother with his Still, there were some details. The shadows of individuality. Hi raised his silver eyes to the Gem
"No... not at all"
Told her in a quiet voice His voice was never loud, cold, yes, sometimes minacious or merciless. But never loud.
Spider still stepped forward, getting closer to the fire and then sat down across from the spy. In full view of the light. She hoped this would be a comfort for him. She looked up at the stars and smiled a little bit. It was a comfort to see homeworlds galaxy sometimes.
"That song... This night... Reminds me of a trip I took with some other spiders. It was just a recon mission, scout out a planet, see what was there, report back. " She shrugged, "Simple. However... We were not expecting the planet to be alive. Like, literally alive. We thought it was dead till we set fire to a tree and the planet pretty much roared and started to shake us off." She chuckled, and one pair of eyes scanned the assassin in front of her. Wondering if he was liking the little ice breaker story.
"We all just started biting it. You ever seen a bunch of spiders just... Biting the ground? It was pretty silly! But it worked... After awhile the planet just... Stopped. No more moving, or shaking, we... Killed it."
She paused and tapped a pair of fingers on her knees, if she was still with homeworld that story would have been a bit more glorious. Now? It just seemed kinda sad.
"The "should be" simple missions are always the most complicated ones in the end, nine out of ten times..."
He nods a little After a little silence he asked:
Simple question on his quite voice, that interweaves with the sad sound of the instrument
"You and your teammates were on a scouting mission, as you said, to see what was there and then report... So... why have you attacked it? Why did you killed it?"
His tone was not accusing or scornful tho... just curious
"Not that I blame you. It was... a mercy killing. The Diamonds would have ordered that eventually. After our scientist finished studying the world, torturing it with their machines and gizmos. Eons of suffering in the name of sicence! I am fine with the killing. I am a Smoky Quartz. From my class Her Majesty, Blue Diamond personally selected the bests of the growth to be her Eyes, and if it need be....her Wrath. The rest of them? Become power sources deemed unfit to serve... They were faulty Gems. But as power sources at least they can serve the Empire for an eternity! But the torturing and vivisecting a being, a real being? That is just disgusting! A human thing..."
Morion let his voice carried away by the cold wind, that made the flames dance, watching the fire
"We are good soldiers. And a good servant knows, when to do something that wasn't clearly ordered to save... the others of the burden of responsibility.
But his voice was a little bitter, more than proud. A little of both
"It was trying to kill us. Trying to shake us off its body, which would have meant failing around in space till someone happened upon us. Kill or be killed." She shrugged, it was an honest question after all and he got an honest answer. They couldn't report back if they had been flung off the planet and left to wander around in space. If the force of leaving the planet hadn't reduced their gems to crisps in the process.
She tucked one of her hands under her chin as he told his little story. Green eyes focused on the fire, finding it soothing, red eyes stayed on the gem before her. It was interesting to hear his side of things. She had been more of a scout then a killer, only killed when it was needed or ordered, but Spider had managed to steel herself and felt nothing during most of the killing. One day she was sure the guilt was going to come crashing down and render her spineless.
If she wasn't already.
"Their gonna do that to the humans, you know..." Spider sighed, "One of the original goals for my mission here was to grab a human specimen and bring him to Homeworld. I choose to not think about the terrible things they would have done to the human if I had been successful."
He probably didn't want to hear about her pitying the humans though, she frowned. "Sorry. I didn't come here to lecture you. I merely wanted to... Know you."
"How did you arrived there? With a ship I guess..."
But he assumes, they were just thrown down Be good little spiders, crawl inside every crack, explore and set up a Warp-pad
"sorry... It was... it must be a horrible experience, I presume"
He stares the fire, the fishes he started to cook were almost ready
"Do you like fish?"
But the quesiton was just Well it wasn't a question, it was a statement A true one
"Yes.... I know."
"Standard procedure. Gather speciments to udnerstand them. When the time and the order comes, the ones like me... could learn from that information the better infiltrate the Planet in question. Stole lifes, identities...."
Morion shakes his head
"On the long run one or two sacrifice is acceptable for the good of the Empire"
But his words were hollow, more of a memorized text than true belife
"No... you didn't lectured me. Wait, what? why do you want to know me?"
Spider nods, "A ship, yes. I was sent here with some others from my growth. I can only assume they were shattered." She had never been able to find any shards or any trace of fellow spiders on this planet. She could only assume that meant they had been utterly shattered and bubbled or at the very least... Went home.
One can only assume.
"Fish? Oh, no. I haven't tried human eating yet. Looks so... messy." Being a gem neither of them had to eat, didn't mean that they couldn't. A slow smile pulled across her face and she leaned forward. "However, have you tried human booze?"
It was highly amusing to watch the humans partake in their booze. They became so silly and sloppy. Heck, Spider had even witnessed the effect of booze on gems and they became somewhat loopy as well if they drank more of it. "We must get some the next time we hang out and a lot of it!"
A giggle escaped her mouth as she tapped her feet on the ground, slightly giddy.
The giddy part of her became somewhat downplayed when he recited a line she knew all too well. Seems even the heavy hitters were told that dumb line. Spider's red eyes rolled and she shook her head.
"I wanted to know you. Despite what you said you are more then just a servant or solider. You are a... Musician," One black hand pointed at the guitar, "A survivalist," A gray hand pointed at the fire, "And a cook." One last hand pointed at the smoking fish.
"The Diamonds never made you to be those things. You are those things because you are... you."
"Actually, when you think of it, it's really digusting... and as Gems, we didn't need any food or drink. But as an Infiltrator, I had to learn to ... tolarate it. So I could blend in... most of the species have some kind of ritual that rquires presence and eating. Feasts. And some of the foods are... tasty. I can never understand the logic behind the booze tho... why whould anyone wants to posion himself with that kind of toxin...?"
But he must admit:
"But... after a hard mission... It would have been nice to numb my mind, and just... forget what have I done"
Moion hesitated a little What Spider told him was true In a sense
"I am a Spy, an Infiltrator by the will of the Diamonds... Some of the stolen lifes, identities ... my disguises required these things and... and... but... but you are right. I've learned to do these things because I wanted to...
"It's not just the eating though, some human rituals baffle my mind. Like... Have you heard of getting married? Two humans binding themselves to each others but not physically. How does that make sense?"
Weddings happened on the beach sometimes. Spider always made sure to stay clear of the ceremonies, all the white would make her stand out. She wondered what it would be like to attend a wedding...
He finally admitted to having his own desires. Spider grinned, "See? You are allowed to have your own thoughts and desires. Took me falling off a cliff to realize that."
"I think human marriages is like our servitude. We pladge ourself to a Diamond, and serves it faithfully for an eternity! Humans? They are not so faithfull. At least how I heard... To be honest I wasn't paid much attention to them, but hinding in the shadows, among the leavs as a snake, or a bird... I can't help it, I have heard this and that. Mostly arguments."
Then again, there is very few species among the stars whos members are honestly, complately faithful, to the death to their chosen mates... Humans are not so exeptional in that matter. "A Spider Jasper that fell down from a cliff? You must have been tired after a hard fight with... something and lost your grip"
Oaths! That was the word she had been looking for. Humans made all these wild oaths to eachother all the time. So many promises, most of them broken.
Spider nodded her head in agreement, they also argued more then any species she had ever encountered before. "Yes, but they argue because they have the power to. They have the ability to disagree with eachother. You know what happens on homeworld if anyone disagrees with the Diamonds, one of us gets sent to deal with them. We don't have the power to say no, but here we do."
She winced when he mentioned her grip. She had been so shocked by the hit and the steep fall she hadn't been able to get a hold on the rocks as she fell. She ran her fingers through her hair, separating the dreads with a slightly sheepish look on her face. She was a Spider Web Jasper that couldn't climb anymore. Figuring out her new found fear was going to take time.
All four eyes closed as she recalled finally being able to reform on earth and being face to face with a earth spider. One of the tiniest creatures she had ever laid eyes but also the most calm and relaxed. It didn't fear her, even though she was in their home.
"That ability is not so unique Spider Jasper! Gems can disagree with eachother too..."
The Smoky Quartz nodds
"Of course, disagreeing with the Diamonds is capital offense! They are our wise rulers... well... Blue Diamond and White Diamond are both wise and noble. Yellow Diamond is... lets say, she is not the brigthest candle in the chandelier..."
"A Gem life is pretty carefree! I mean, lets face it, everybody got its palce! A Rubie is an expendable soldier, and he knows it, the quartzes are the faithfull Knights, and we are pretty good at it! The Pearls are cute little, obidient, massproduced and replaceable servants, and the Peridots are the caretakers of the machines and technology. We have our castes, our places and purposes; aristicrats and soldiers, diplomats... everything is in its palce, and its working. You know your place in the Universe and thats make you free! No worries, no doubts, am I right? Why would anyone wants to question that?"
He can't understand the rebels. Why they throws away everyhing? And for what? Morion waited for the answer about the revelation, then nodded
"You could be anything... thats not so new. You are a shapeshifter. But I tink I understand what do you mean. Let me guess! You found out, you don't want to be a killer..."
Morion can't really blame Spider But he muse, mumbled under his nose
"If you just keep saving the butterflies the spiders will die."
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
