Heavy rubber wheels rumble along the asphalt as a highway transit bus rolls into the cosmopolitan metropolis that is Empire City. Coming to the city wherein what happens there, never sleeps, is a gem, on a course with a personal mission.
The former home world heavy planetary scout had gotten wind of a mysterious piece of tech that the regional news programs had reported was being examined at the Empire City Advanced Scientific University. She saw an image of the device that had been found on the sea bed. They didn't know what it was but she did. . It was a seismic destabilizer, used in gem-forming efforts to break up heavy bedrock and facilitate deep drilling, it was an old model but if it's tech was used improperly it could be very harmful. It had to be liberated or destroyed for the good of both gem and human kind. She wasn't a Crystal Gem officially or anything so she didn't need Meta Autunite's permission, but it's not like she would have waited and asked anyway.
As the bus rounds the corner past the secure wing of the University, it's second roof mounted air conditioner seems to break away and slide off its mountings and drop off the roof towards the pavement. As it drops one might notice the irregular dark faceted iridescent gem embedded on its housing..
By the time it hits the pavement it is a form of glowing light and the gem Carbide reasumes her natural shape after her shape shifting trik let her ride along undetected. The public seemed to know about gems however she didn't crave the publicity, especially given her mission.
She stands up and looks at the facility before her then breaks out on a loping dash towards the secure building and begins to scale the drain pipe. ...hoping she was the early bird in this little fiasco and could get in and out fast and uninterrupted. .
The BD-143 Seismic Destabilizer Model 1532. A simpler bedrock cracking tool from an older time, but still one of use. Recently, the device had been found by the humans, who seemed insistent on testing it to see what made it tick. However, Obsidian seemed to want the piece of junk, and naturally sent Sugar to get it. Granted, it's not like a Pearl could handle an undertaking such as this. A mission like this required someone with more skill, more cunning, and more-
"MOVE IT, FUCKTARD, I'M WALKING HERE!"
Traversing the streets of Empire city was most definitely easier when she had the truck. But that... That stopped being a thing twenty minutes ago when she got T-boned by a bus. Turns out turn signals are pretty damn important, Obsi. Either way, she was walking now. To a University roughly four miles away. Yeah, that sounded like a stupid plan, but she had to go undercover. No need to telegraph her presence as a gem, and her natural coloration blended quite well with human society. So long as she didn't use her powers...
Fuck undercover operations.
In an instant, Sugar took to the roof of the nearest building, drew her shotguns, and ran for the edge, jumping off and opening fire behind her to give her more propulsion off the ledge. Several more jumps like this easily closed the distance to the Science Wing at the University, which she found by the large letters on the building marking it as such. She just needed a way in that wouldn't attract even more attention.
Well, more attention than a four foot humanoid standing in a lawn, looking intently at a building while holding shotguns could attract.

Carbide was climbing hand over hand, scaling the side of the tall building with relative ease when a series of distant crashing sounds echoed through the night and reached her ears. "Well now, whats that racket?" She wondered aloud, grumbling that she couldn't get a fix on the sounds and what they actually were, this city was so much noisier and had so many tall surfaces to baffle and scatter sounds. She had forgotten that large centers were like this, even home world was the same, although that was somewhat of a distant memory for her.
That didn't matter now, she was here to grab or smash the destabilizer then get back to the relative peace and obscurity of beach city. Soon she has scrambled up to the roof and peers back over the edge to the ground some twelve stories below. Not exactly a sky scraper but tall enough, and from what she had learned about the facility, it had several basement levels, each more secure than the last, where research the humans deemed valuable or dangerous was conducted.
Focusing back on the task at hand, the scout soon has her fingers locked onto the cowling cover for a large vent and after a few tugs, the metal gives off a fatigued sound and breaks with a groan. Pausing to see if that sound had gone in noticed, the scout disappears into the ventilation system and begins working her way down through the levels, floor by floor, looking for a good spot to emerge into the labs or hallways that dotted the structure ' s interior.
While she was no Ving like a cat burger through the vents, she wondered if the destabilizer was going to be too big to tote out the same way she got in. Bubbling was usually used for smaller objects after all, and this bit of old tech was supposedly about the size of a large duffel bag..
No point in working about that until it was an issue, she had to focus on reaching the basement labs without the security system getting grumpy and locking every door and elevator shaft between her and her objective.
After taking a brief moment to put the guns away, Sugar approached the building, noting that there wasn't anyone inside, and that the door was locked. Shrugging, the girl considered busting down the door... But then she would have humans swarming the area. Something about "breaking and entering" or some shit. So she teleported past the door. A simple solution to the problem, yes, and at least she wasn't breaking anything. Then it was just entering, right?
Anyway, the corridors were dark. Nothing she wasn't accustomed to, but it was still unsettling. She had heard that the labs were in the lower levels, so she searched for a way down. The elevators were inactive, unfortunately, and Sugar didn't really like stairs that much. But nevertheless, she headed for the door marked with the accursed contraptions, and began to walk down, briefly considering just jumping down to the desired level, only to realize that landing would hurt.

Somewhere on the first basement level a rumble and a bump cam be hard up in the ventilation system, then a moment later a slight rattling then a two foot wide vent cover drops from the cling with a hollow clank, then a pair of boots dangle for a moment before Carbide's full form drops down into the hallway and lands in a crouch, almost noiselessly.
"Well that was the most claustrophobic 20 minuets I've had in a while.." the scout straightens up and stretches, then with her hands on her hips begins to move down the hallway, following the signs and arrows that lead to the geophysics lab. She fought back a tickle in the back of her mind, that she just might not be alone in the building. She couldn't focus on that now, she reaches the end of the hallway and approaches a set of sliding metal doors, an elevator, but unauthorized activation this late she night would probably trip the alarm too..
Her half gloved fingers grip the gap between he doors and with a hard tug, the doors wrench open with a scraping groan that could probably be heard a floor nor two above. Her eyes, tuned for low light lock on to the elevator cables, and with a hop, she is flying into the center of the elevator shaft and latches onto a cable, sliding down to the roof of the elevator car sitting at the bottom..."Well here we are...basement geophysics lab, time to finish this."
The doors of the elevator wrench open at regain, this time from the inside and reveal the heavy scout standing in the elevator car, it's celing hatch dangling from a damaged hinge. At the end of the hall she spies a pair of glass doors, and beyond that, in the center of the lab on a lit up examination tech table, sat the old seizmic destabilizer, it's casing stained and pitted from years under the waves.."Oh I love ot when an operation comes together"..the reaches out to grasp the door handles but pauses..
Well. That was a stupidly long staircase. Sure, Sugar understood that a Geophysics lab had to be sub level to properly conduct research on the interior of the Earth, but really? Twelve fucking stories? TWELVE? She wasn't necessarily tired by the time she got to the lab, just annoyed. How the hell was she supposed to drag that shit back up TWELVE STORIES? That's twenty four flights of stairs! She had better get something awesome from Obsi for this. Maybe a better truck. Maybe a rocket launcher inside a better truck. That would be pretty rad.
What wasn't rad was that someone beat her to her target. It took Sugar a moment to recognize the figure, but once she did, a look of disdain washed over her face. "Oh, son of a whore."

Carbide straightens up and spins on her heel to face he source of the voice behind her, blinking once she realizes who it is the slumps forward, dangling her arms and rolling her vision spheres under her half face visor..." Heyyyyyyyy! Small, dark and cranky, from the Galaxy Warp, right?! What ever are you doing here.....and by that I mean, really...you better tell me what you're up to. I don't need any interruptions and I certainly don't have time for a grudge match right now."
As she speaks she straightens up to her full height and crosses her arms against her bust, cocking a hip at the same time.
She recognized Sugar, if not only for her appearance but also for her scrappy albeit some what sailor-mouthed vocabulary. Carbide wasn't too too worried, seeing as how she emerged ahead in their last little brawl, but none the less, this Sugar was quick, scrappy and unpredictable, which she respected at least..
Carbide strides forward a pace or two, keeping her eyes upon the small assailant.."So whats it gonna be? Tell me why you're dogging my tail, or is this just a happy coincidence where you're playing errand girl to someone who wants what's behind this door? "
"Oh, you don't just think I like the company of a walking artillery platform?" Sugar retorted, shooting a glare at the much taller and far more dangerous gem. Well, at least in close quarters, Sug could use her weapon far more efficiently. This Carbide's cannons would take out the entire sub level. Though, while she loved the idea of a rematch, she had better reasons to be there. Namely the Seismic Destabilizer.
And wouldn't you know it, this bitch wanted it, too.
"Anyway, yeah. Science bitch wants the piece of junk lying behind that door, so Imma get it and get a new truck. One with turn signals instead of lasers." the short gem stated as she strode past the Carbide, teleporting to the other side of the door and searching for her target.

Carbide grumbles slightly as the smaller gem strides up then performs her short range teleport and reappears on the other side of the glass doors. She gives her fist a frustrated thump on the glass as her glare shoots daggers at Sugar on the other side.
Worried that Sugar had at an advantage for a moment, Carbide then began to think, perhaps this was an opportunity for the two gems to be mutually beneficial to one another seeing as how they both possessed some attributes that would help get the object out of the building, and human hands without setting off the security systems at the same time. She had originally planned to score the glass with the neeeearly diamond hard facets of her gem and thereby cut a clumsy hole in the glass without upsetting the electric mechanisms of the locks...but this new idea could work too.
Carbide turns her back to the door and leans back on it lazily and speaks loud enough for Sugar to hear..
"So..Sugar is it? Perhaps we can help eachother out here. I know you're stronger than an adult human by a good bit..but you know that home world didn't start constructing the housings on such equipment out of Cerami-lite until the BD-260 series was developed oh I dunno. ...1200 earth years later. Anyway...that thing you're salivating over, on the pedistal..it's hull is made of paladium lined Duramite, not exactly the lightest alloy ever turned out by our beloved techs back on home world. So, it's about 4:27 AM meaning we have about 90 Earth minutes until this facility's personally show up for the day. So by all means, if you can carry that "engine block" up twelve stories of sub basement, then be my guest, it still gets out of human hands. But if you think that might be a bit of a time press given your size and strength, then perhaps you should open the door and work with me on this one. Unless you've got a portable mag-lev generator stuck down the pants leg of your appearance modifiers, I'd say we need eachother. You handle the security sensors, I handle the heavy lifting..think it over. .ooh! 88 minuets sweet heart!"
Carbide spins around making a smoochy face and a human peace sign through the glass..
"Why should I trust you? Who's to say you won't just grab this thing and ditch me the minute I get it out of this room?" Sugar inquired as she spotted the machine, barely managing to lift it on her first attempt at picking it up. As much as she hated to admit, Carbide was right. She wouldn't be able to carry this all the way up the stairs. Letting out a sigh, Sugar turned to the door, noting the locking system and rolling her eyes before drawing her shotgun and shooting the contraption.
"Fine. But I get to keep it, y'hear?" she stated, looking the other gem in the eye as she opened the door, aiming the unprimed gun at the Destabilizer. "Try not to nuke anything on your way out."

Carbide strolls past the smaller gem, practically able to feel the suspicious gaze that was being directed at her but that didn't matter for now, the important thing was to liberate this tech from some very curious scientists who were probably going to have military officials breathing down their appearance modifier head holes, for some sort of military applications once they succeeded in reverse engineering the disruptor's design.
"So glad you see it my way Sugar, take this how you will, but not every gem is willing to see reason, past their own pride. All I want is this thing away from a race that isnt ready for it. "Science Bitch" isnt much of a concern for me, in the sense that her getting her touch stumps on this old tech is like a human getting theirs on a device from last century. Sure she might cause a bit of a headache with it, but the device is not an unknown and I know how to take it out of commission for good. And whats more, I ll know exactly where it is, on Obsidian's ship, and not in one underground bunker lab out of... frik.. I dunno.. 50,000 that this nation may have."
The scout saunters over to the table and rolls her shoulders about for a second or two then grips the large cylindrical device by a pair of rails protruding from the sides and heaves-to. The examination pedestal creaks as the weight is lifted from it, but soon Carbide has the device slung up over one of her shoulders an is moving at a steady, but not altogether speedy pace, towards the door that Sugar had disabled..frowning at the comment suggesting her trigger happy nature.
"You just keep your gaze on the look out for sensor strips and mag-locks on the doors, that's your priority right now, you're a soldier, stay objective and lets get out of here without creating a national trans-species incident out of this. I don't want to leave any evidence that suggests gem magic or tech was at play here, so bust locks and buckshot are king right now.."
"The authority of the Diamonds doesn't mean shit on this planet, does it." Sugar remarked, rolling her eyes as she made her way to the stairs. Literally every loyalist or neutral she encountered ordered her around in some way, shape, or form. For once, ONCE she would like to call the shots, tell someone how to fuck someone else's shit up. That would be straight up fucking amazing, actually having the power she was granted be recognized on this miserable, useless hunk of rock. But no. She was stuck being little miss soldier, seen as a mindless pawn to be told what to do.
Priming her shotgun, Sugar continued up the stairs, keeping an eye out for any security measures, and briefly considering kneecapping the Carbide behind her.

Carbide watches Sugar's face crumple into a scowl as she strode past the scout, leading the way. She hadn't thought about it too much until a couple flights of stairs and a few hallways had passed them by, but she HAD come off rather 'drill sergeant' back there which drew her mind back to her centuries serving home world under her handler Opalite. Sure the time away on solo scouting missions gave her a lot of opportunities, which she relished and could plan her own ways of completing objectives, but back on diamond bases she always felt grumpy and suffocated, perhaps it wasn't too different for Sugar.
She bites her lip and takes a breath, dropping any sarcastic tone in her voice but still sounding focused.."Hey Sugar?" She waits for the smaller gem's gaze to shift back towards her..
"I apologize, I was wrong. You made it down here undetected and even technically reached the prize before I did. You know your stuff and I respect that. You didn't need me telling you how to pull off a simple egress. So yeah.. from one stubborn girl to another, sorry."
Carbide steps up and over a floor level motion sensor in the wall then pipes up again, "So what type of assignment brought you to this planet? I know of known of a few water soluble gem types, and I'm impressed you're bold enough to accept assignment on a planet that's 70% covered in a compound that's hazardous to you. I mean, there's plenty of other gem controlled world's where there is no water present, I'm surprised they wouldn't send an agent like you there instead....and no. I'm afraid not, diamond authority is a little thin out in the fringe worlds, but for what it's worth, gems that are deserving of respect seem to manage to earn it."
Sugar glanced back at Carbide as she shot out a camera, unsure of how to react to the apology. It was rare that anyone ever apologized to her as a form of reconciliation for their behavior. Back on Homeworld, she only got apologies as a result of incorrect actions being taken. After a brief moment of consideration, the gun toting gem spoke. "Apology accepted. As for my mission... I was sent here to investigate the shutdown of the Earth Terminal of the Galaxy Warp, as well as snuff out any potential insurrectionist activity. This was to be a moment of redemption for my past failure on Centauri. Now..."
Sugar paused to consider her words, motioning towards a laser tripwire in the stairs and casually stepping over it.
Post by ~Panzerschurke~ on May 25, 2016 4:52:26 GMT
Carbide listens as Sugar explains her mission, on the one hand it wasn't surprising that home world would be curious as to why the grid went down, but she had now met several homeworlders who had gotten stranded here, servants of all three diamonds who had all said that they were sent on missions either solo or groups, to determine the cause of the galaxy warp failure. Perhaps there was more about this planet that she didn't know, because it sure seemed odd for the Diamond authority to invest such resources and time getting back in contact with a fringe world colony, barely begun.
As she ponders these thoughts she almost fails to notice her footing, but pauses mid step, noticing Sugar point out the laser sensor with the muzzle of her gun, doing a quick little hop back onto one foot then taking a higher more cautious step over the sensor.."Thanks, good eye Sugar. This thing up on my shoulder is limiting my left side peripheral vision a good bit. We must be nearly back to the main floor by now, I'll admit I stopped counting once I realized how much this hunk of scrap is digging into my neck.. gads! Well that and I was thinking about how you're not exactly the only gem, or squad for that matter to be dispatched to track down the source of the galaxy warp ..situation."
"You had mentioned this mission is supposed to be some sort of redemption.. I know what its like to be stuck somewhere by way of awkward circumstances. I-I'm already dead as far as home world knows, just another lost prototype and a hole in their collective military R&D budgets, and its been that way for almost a thousand standard years. Ended up left on an unstable volcanic colony world after the galaxy warp I was getting ready to evac on, was fired on with the Index Cannon of an Emerald Class Hand Ship. Found out only recently that orbital strike was a... mistake.. a miscommunication, but Opalite had no reason to assume I'd survived, and thats how it was reported, and I was left to crawl about on the bottom of a lava lake for stars knows how long, looking for the sunken warp pad and warp out to the next nearest planet. 1000 years and a few hundred planetary warps and ship hitchhikes later.. here I am on earth." She pauses a moment and glances down to her unexpected mission partner then carries on up the last flight of stairs.
The pair emerges up the service stairs, leading into the main lobby of the Lab..the outside visible beyond the thick glass window walls, the sun just beginning to peek above the roof tops. The clock in the lobby read 5:37, just over 20 minuets to get out and get far enough away to avoid suspicion.. Carbide sets the Destabilizer down at her feet for a moment and enjoys a well deserved stretch. "Earth isnt so bad Sugar, Hell is what you carry around inside you, trust me I'd know. Square with yourself, not with who you think you owe an impressive performance to, and youll be alright.."
Melody: as usual, just waiting for posts

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption" is being treated like a virus due to lack of info about it on the show.
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
