It was an odd feeling knowing she wasn't the first, nor was she likely within the first fifty gems to be sent to Earth for the same mission. Sure, the information was helpful... But it was disturbing. We're these predecessors sent to Earth for a similar reason to her? Did they fail the Diamonds, and just happened to come across an attempt at redemption on this miserable rock? Maybe Earth was just where failures were sent to live out their days until they went mad...
As for Carbide's story, that didn't make her feel any better. To be frank, now she just had a lot of questions, and no-one to ask. Carbide wasn't necessarily the most reliable source of information on the Diamonds, and 4/5 gems on this planet hate the Authority with a burning passion. "I don't know... We were all trained to regard the Diamonds as perfect beings, that we existed to serve their design, and nothing more. What you're suggesting is... It's treason." she remarked, worry in her eyes as she glanced up at Carbide, only to shift her gaze to the hallway between them and success.
"We need a mode of transportation. My truck got wrecked..." she started as she headed out, spotting a white '72 RoadRunner in the parking lot. "... That'll do. Think you could start it?" the small gem requested, pointing out the muscle car.

Carbide peers over her shoulder and out the window, catching a glimpse of the car Sugar's eyes were gleaming over. She wasn't thrilled with the idea of running off with some poor guy's ride, but in the interests of getting their tails out of there without being spotted and ending up in some sort of drawn out stand off, or losing posession of the device, absconding with the automobile seemed to be the the most expedient solution.
As she heaves the device back to her shuolder and scoots over to the locked entrance way.. so close to escape.. she responds to Sugar's previous statements..."Hmm treason eh? Guess from a certain perspective that might be the case, but for me it hasnt been about trying to push an agenda or even piss off the diamonds. I do what I do because I am not willing to stop surviving.. living even.. living a life.. an unorthodox.. but a good life. When I first took form, they spent more time emphasizing my training and testing my capabilities as a prototype more than they enforced ideals and loyalty to the diamonds..
I'm sure that had things worked out with my trial period of a few thousand years, and they decided to make more of me, that my kind would have been given every inch of the Home World education and indonctrination that well, every other mass produced gem type is given.
Being constantly so far away from Home world during testing and in my career I guess I never got a chance to fully identify with home world culture or even feel like I was meant to be a part of it in any meaningful way. Its been hard. Having to come up with your own idenity when you konw there was potentially one out there ready-made for you and all other gems that would have meant potentially prestige, or respect or accomplishment.
I lashed out at superiors, sure. But it was when a short sighted decision, or higher ups ignoring reports I'd made cost us resources, time and gem's lives and weakend what I viewed as the empire and gemkind as a whole! If everyone back home was really as unified in their alleigance to the Diamonds and the empire, why were 'middle managment' able to waste time, resources and lives, for their own gain, selfish if you ask me." Carbide sems to growl out the end of that sentence, obviously fueled by some sour past experiences.
"But anyway..I may not have those things any more, but I rise when I want, rest when I want, fight when I deem it, make peace by the same accord, work with who I want, and love who I want. I'm free." Carbide seems to get a lil misty for a moment there but shakes her head and wipes her nose with her free hand.."But I suppose thats really just a round about way of saying yes... yes I CAN make that vehicle start!.. So you up for getting us past one last locked door Sugar?"
Sugar didn't know how a gem could talk and tangent as much as Carbide did, but the more she spent time with the brute, the less she minded. Hell, she was starting to like the lady, her ability to kill Sugar notwithstanding. A sly grin playing at her lips, Sugar raised the shotgun one more time, primed it, and pulled the trigger, decimating the lock... And also shattering the glass of the doors and triggering a rather obvious alarm.
"Aaw, shit." was all she could say as she bolted, motioning for Carbide to follow. They needed that car now more than ever, as Sugar was sure that local authorities would be on their tail rather quickly. Of all times to trigger an alarm... She got sloppy. Nevertheless, Sugar was quick to teleport inside of the vehicle, unlocking the doors and popping the trunk. However, as Carbide neared the vehicle, Sugar had her concerns.

Carbide flinches as she hears the alarms ring out following the discharge of Sugar's gun. "Aw shoot, so close so close!" The scout barges out the damaged door and lopes across the nearby parking lot to the vehicle that Sugar had already ported into, and popped its access hatches. "Hmm well I guess its time to find out.." The scout skids to a stop by the open trunk, and after a bit of wiggling, and choice language, the Siezmic Destablizer drops in, with room enough to close the hatch, which she admitedly shuts a bit harder than she should have.
"Okay okay! Time to get scarce!" She scrambles around to the open passenger door and slides in, settling on the bench car seat and reaching across, past sugar to the steering column for the ignition. "..And now to prove that I have a few tricks that dont all revolve around brute force and ignorance..." She holds up her index touch stump, which starts to glow, the tip of it extending and remaining aglow as she presses it into the ignition. "So you just slowly expand and adjust the end of your finger, until you can feel the shape.. rrrg.. cmon.. push up on the tumblers in the engine lock.. thennnnn.. HAH! Got It!"
Carbide twists her hand and the car's engine rumbles to life with a heavy metallic droning that sounded rather primal and pleasant.. for a mechanical sound. She withdraws her finger, those simple style ignitions didn't need anything present in them to maintain engine operation anyway.. newer stuff was fussier though. "Okay Okay Okay! Go Go Go! Pop the clutch!" and she watches at the small gem presses down on the pedals and grips the stick, skipping first and hopping right into second gear, the RoadRunner's tires spin and struggle for traction for a few seconds then finally bite in and the vehicle takes off out of the parking lot and down the street, as sirens can be heard approaching in the distance. "Sorry 'Sherriff'.. too slow!" Carbide calls out the window as she peers back in the mirror to see that they were not followed.
Sugar had to admit. She may have found something on this useless rock heap that she loved. "I think I love you..." she trailed off as she shifted into third, weaving through traffic as the sirens died down in the distance. This car was beautiful. The sounds it made, the curves of its body, the power it displayed... The truck Obsi made for her was a kitten compared to the dragon that was this beast.
Turning onto the highway gave Sugar a chance to open up the throttle, prompting shouts of utter glee and excitement as she sped past all other cars on the road, be them commuters or cops that just coulsn't catch up. Sugar knew the way back to Beach City, and was already making their way thrre. After all, she had to give this hunk of metal to Obsi. Glancing over to Carbide, Sugar gave a wide smile as she shifted up to fourth and put the pedal down, roaring down the highway.

Carbide leans back, her lock locks half trailing out the open passenger window. It was so so nice when a task came together almost perfectly. She shuffles a bit in her seat and places her feet up, in the open window, and extending an arm out, lightly tousling Sugar's hair when she realizes the super grim super serious gem was wearing a grin from ear to ear!
"Well hey, look at you Miss Sugar, grinning like that! Goatta be careful, didn't think your face was too accustomed to that motion, you just might make it crack! Keep it up thought, you just might get used to it... SO! She's your pet now Sugar, I think it falls to you to decide on a name!"
The scout unhands Sugar's dome and draws out a vanilla cigarillo from her pocket and clenches it in her teeth, reaching forward and punching the Roadrunner's lighter coil into place, grasping it once it pops up a few seconds later and using it to stoke up a warm little cherry on the cigarillo's tip.
" So what now? Do we take the device back to your... benefactor.. or do you keep it under your hat? Seems to me that you've got a nice little prize for your troubles already! Andddddddd.... if you're willing to accept a bit of company from time to time, you just miiiiiight be able to say that you made a friend too? What do ya say? Be careful though! You're acting an awful lot like a free gem here, let that sink in, hehe!"
She swivels her gaze back out the window and watches the high rises of the city gradually transition into suburbs and then into open fields and mesas on either side of the free way.
While Carbide was busy draping half of herself out of the open car window, Sugar was having one of the greatest times of her 2,500 year old life! This machine, this RoadRunner was fantastic. While Carbide's sudden contact to the top of her head was not appreciated, the suggestion to name the car definitely was. But what was a fitting name to such a glorious machine?
"Holiday..." she muttered in between Carbide talking and the larger gem smoking. Upon further thot, she saw the name as perfect. Maybe she could have it inscribed on the car's trunk... The thoughts on what to do with Holiday were running through her head about as fast as the car was tearing up the road. When Carbide mentioned what they had accomplished, however, Sugar paused, glancing over at the 'friends' comment. Could she call Carbide a friend? Maybe... She was nicer than Obsi, to say the least. "I'll consider it. Don't push your luck." she eventually replied, slowing down on the off ramp toward Beach City. "So where should I drop you off, Carbide?"

Carbide pulled her boots back inside the car and swiveled around, crossing her arms on the ledge of the open window with her chin resting on top of her hands. She watched the miles roll by and the scenergy changed, half lulled into a napping state for the better part of an hour as the RoadRunner lived up to it's name sake, transporting the duo swiftly back in the direction of beach city.
The scout certainly wasnt about to say that the mission had gone of exactly as she had expected, and despite the alarm at the end, she really enjoyed the smaller gem's company, attitude included, definitely professional, but far from cold, that much was evident by the expression Sugar was wearing from ear to ear as this relatively primative earth machine, but stylish and romantic in its form, carried them back to more familiar territory. And she was glad that Sugar was at least doing something with the destabilizer other than dropping it right in her "employer's" lap. That was all she could ask for after all, because either way it couldnt be opened up by humans and it's tech used in the wrong ways.
~ "So where should I drop you off, Carbide?" ~
She blinks slightly, as she realizes the car has slowed for the off ramp, the question jarring her back to the here and now. "Hmm, anywhere around the waterfront will do, theres a lil floating dive around there, a lil corn-ball but utterly charming, I think I'll relax there for a little while before I call it a night."
The scout then gets a bit of an idea...""Hey.. depending on what you think of your.. gracious employer's intentions, do you want me to keep any teeny little vital piece of that thing in the trunk. I mean, Obsidian wasnt there, so for all she knows, the humans already cracked its panel open and had removed a few of the really nummy looking pieces and taken them who knows where. Y'know, just to put the bug in your ear."
As much as Sugar didn't like the idea of betraying her most important ally, Carbide did have a point. Obsidian was a nut job, from what Sugar gathered. A device like this, although frankly archaic, was still more dangerous in the scientist's hands than in the humans'. Mulling over the thought as she cruised by the boardwalk, Sugar eventually let out a sigh, parking the car and pippin the trunk, "Do what you must. But if she suspects anything, I'm blaming you." the shorter gem stated, drumming her fingers against the door. The hell was she thinking, deceiving her most powerful and influential ally? Obsidian was her only connection to Homeworld, and Sug didn't think she could be trusted with an old-ass and probably broken earth breaking box.
Well. Have fun with that, science bitch. It was Carbide's fault.

Carbide opens her door and swings her boots out, planting her feet firmly on the boardwalk and then rises up, stretching out a few kinks before turning around to face her co-operative and get away driver once again and leans against the door.."Well, thanks for the lift, thanks for the help, and thanks for not shooting me in the ass or knee cap. Be safe okay Sugar, and if you ever find her royal crankiness too much, look me up and I am sure we can find some way to let off some steam.. as for doing what I will..I must confess I already did."
The heavy scout reaches into a pocket and pulls out a small cylindrical component from the Seismic Destablilizer's inner workings, and twiddles it back and forth between her fingers .."One of it's Harmonic Regulators.. Its got three jammed in there, but missing one, its Seismic Resonance field will collapse just about any time the device gets pushed past 30% power, if my guess work is any good. I nabbed it when you spun around after that alarm got set off. We both have our skills and tricks I'd say. Obsidian might cause a few shenanigans with it, that is IF she can get the rest of this old relic refurbished, but at least she wont be sinking any islands or coastlines.."
Carbide trots around the back of the car, shutting the trunk and continues to Sugar's open driver side window and holds out her hand to her, through the opening. "Look after yourself, Sugar, hate for this to be our only Op together." She chuckles and winks.
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
