Name:
Hematite
Appeared Gender:
Female
Appeared Age:
Young Adult
Gemstone:
Black Hematite, Facet-1G4A, Cut-1AN (Similar to a black Pearl; oval shaped and smooth but markedly smaller.)
Gemstone Location: Planted right in the forehead, just above eye level.
Allegiance: HOMEWORLD
Corrupted: No.
7% corruption.
Corrupted Monster Form: Unknown.
Appearance: Roughly five feet tall with greyish skin and bright white eyes. Her hair is a thick heap flowing down from her head down her back between her shoulders, reaching the bottom of her neck. She generates a form fitting red jumpsuit of sorts with her gem name, Facet and Cut as three "nametags" just above the left breast of the top half of the jumpsuit. The sleeves reach down to her elbows before stopping, having been rolled up. Her pants reach down to ankle height and are overtaken by sturdy, stiff work boots coloured pitch black. She has a black do-rag of sorts with gem culture patterns delicately "sewn" (read; generated) into the edges. The rag holds her hair out of her face and keeps it facing toward the back. The rag is generated independent of her body and can be removed. Finally, she possesses a pair of gem goggles stored inside her gemstone. These goggles appear to be simple welding goggles for protection, but the lenses are coloured as they were made specially from gem technology. They allow her to project light beams for seeing in the dark.
Personality: Hematite is an isolationist gem, though it's not for lack of trying that she's always stuck alone. While she is usually fine with being alone she becomes frustrated and upset when she has not had social contact for too long, and the idea of somebody knowing she exists whom can come to her aid in a time of need comforts her. She often cannot help but be sarcastic at times and has a bad habit of coming out with unnecessarily venomous comments, but she usually means well. When somebody does well she tries to be supportive and congratulatory. Having been mostly around Homeworld military types she cannot help but behave condescendingly at times.
An important aspect of her personality is that she tries to see why other gems make the choices they do instead of simply condemning them for being contrary.
Likes: Eating (NO MEATS), clever schemes, safety, Gemkind as a collective, progress, technology, industry, making fun of lesser beings.
Dislikes: Rowdy gems, arrogant gems, selfish gems, useless gems, meat (YUCK).
Fears:
Being shattered. The dark abyss of timeless space outside of planetary bodies. The Crystal Gems. Open flames.
Weapon: A handheld axe, not particularly fancy or potent but just fine for self defense in a pinch.
Ability 1: Copper Veins. While she does not possess the ability to generate, control or resist electrical currents, Hematite can use magic and physical contact with technology to control it as if it were an extension of her own body, with flexible cables and wires being the best targets. Only one solid connected thing can be controlled at a time due to requiring physical contact, and something as large as a human power relay station just isn't possible to interface with. Her puppets do not gain any additional tensile strength, so a wire can still be easily stretched apart or cut with as little as safety scissors. Her magical energy substitutes electricity, and this can have a profound drain on her strength if she tries to interface with something too great or complex for too long.
Ability 2:
Mindspace. Like Pearl in the show, Hematite is capable of magically "storing" solid objects in a state of stasis within her game, within reason. Her gem isn't a bag of holding so she can only have so much in there, and if she forgets she has something for too long it's gone forever. In addition she has a reduced affinity for it, so anything that cannot be made physically smaller than her gem in some way cannot be stored.
Fusions: Virgin gem.
History: Hematite was made with the express purpose of providing engineering expertise on Earth. She was delivered in a mass shipment of specialized gems with a similar purpose. When her assigned facility suffered major damage from a tsunami she and her team were all but wiped out, with the survivors returning to Homeworld. She was buried for a long time among the shards of her fellow gems. When she was finally able to regenerate she was alone and lost on a wild planet teeming with what seemed to be crazed corrupt gems, paranoid Homeworld enforcers and eventually (what she believes to be) ruthless Crystal Gem thugs. Poor navigation has kept her from reuniting with any allies. She's been surviving on and off for the better part of the rest of recent history, from her reformation during the 1100s to today, with her longest stretch of un-poofed life only possible due to hiding within human civilization and assisting in a few technological advancements of theirs, though nothing special.
Character Arcs: To quote from her log, which is literally a wooden log with writing carved into it in the middle of a North American forest she camped in a few hundred years prior to today...
Immediate goals are thus! Restore functionality to as much Homeworld infrastructure as possible with the long term goal of contacting and (best case scenario!) returning to my Homeworld! This includes, but is not limited to, reactivating or at the very least salvaging the following locations; the Communications Hub; the Galaxy Warp; Kindergartens, literally any of them (The writing cuts off there.)
Long story short, Hematite initially wants to restore enough Homeworld influence on Earth to allow her to either assist in the retaking of Earth or finally join her fellows back on Homeworld. She does not want to have to do it manually and would much prefer Warp travel.
Something has to change her mind regarding Homeworld to convince her to stay on Earth and keep the Kindergartens shut down.
And lastly, something has to shatter her. She is destined to die on Earth.
