It was very hot, nothing out of the ordinary in Mexico. Obsidian and her friend, Amber were sitting in the storage car of a small train. The train had left from Empire city, it held important cargo. This cargo was by no means safe, that is, going through these parts. The Sun baked the desert like an oven, the endless plane of sand. It was like staring into the ocean, nothing changed for miles. It was a very long trip.
Obsidian shifted to a more comfortable position. She reclined on a crate with a piece of grass in her mouth and a sombrero covering her eyes. If anyone looked at them as if questioning them, she would give a steely look to repel them. Nobody ever did even look at them, but she was sure her steely look would be enough to change their minds. They were the security of the train after all. She kept her eyes peeled for any trouble, occasionally raising her fedora to sneak a peek of her surroundings. She looked around restlessly, as if she was in a movie scene. Suddenly a thud was heard in the caboose.
"Amber, did you hear that!? or...is the desert messing with me..." They had only been on the road for a few hours.
Amber, having enjoyed their few pitstops in a couple Mexican towns along their way, was clad in a little poncho with a sombraro that was way too big for her head. She held a maraca in each hand, and proceeded to dance around and make noise with them. She even wore a fake handle-bar mustache, ignoring the itchiness the heat caused it to make. She's been at this for hours: dancing around, singing, and trying to have a good time while they waited to arrive at their destination. Sort of hard to believe that she was part of the security of the train, and most thought that she could have been some sort of perhaps relative to the woman with the steely-eyed glance who sat back with the grass in her mouth: Obsidian.
She paused though at the sudden thump, and looked back at Obsidian. She tilted her head questioningly, "Dunno?" She looked outside of the train. "It could have just been the tracks, or the other passengers messing about and dropped something." Another thud was heard, and this time Amber's smile faded into a frown. She threw out her aura-radar and tried to pick up what could be wrong; an unwanted guest? A corrupted Gem? Anything could be possible. Heck, maybe the masked disco-man could be back? Her frown only grew deeper as her suspicions were confirmed: there was a new presence on this train, but she could not identify what or who. She looked sharply at Obsidian, "We need to check it out. Now."
Obsidian's eyes narrowed and she glared dutifully. Making a short grunting sound she nodded, trying to stay in character with her outfit. She took off down the carts, running. She didn't really think it was necessary to run, but you know, keeping in character. They reached the caboose and nothing was there. That left only one option, it must have climed onto the roof. Obsidian motioned for her cohort to follow as she proceeded toward the door. Thinking deeper she realized that if someone was on top of the train, they would simply enter the door if left unguarded. She couldn't go with Amber onto the roof and leave the door unattended. She turned to Amber.
"Alright, Amber. Something or someone is on the roof...I've watched enough movies to know that this is going to get dangerous... You've got to stay here to make sure nobody can slip into the train. Can you do that for me... senhorita?" Obsidian said winking. She sat for a moment thinking quietly, inwardly cringing at her own awkwardless.
"Well...here goes..." She said, opening the door. She grabbed onto the roof of the train and with a surprisingly athletic flip she swung onto the roof. Her Sombrero tilted to one side she walked down the train.
"Masked man...we had a hunch it would be- Oh no it's not you." Instead of the masked man, a gem mutant stood on the train. It resembled a vulture. It's gem was huge, being it's entire head. Although it was a large gem, it wasn't a large head, only slightly bigger than a human's head and quite small for the monster it fir onto. It's gem was shaped into a skull. Obsidian shivered.
"Uh..Amber...get ready to..." She begun, but her voice trailed off. The Vulture punched her in the chest with both of it's talons. She flew backward and almost off the train, but railing around the caboose caught her, also smashing into her, hard. Obsidian smiled weakly and tried to stand, but she fell on her face.
Amber was still inside the train. She was staring up at the ceiling, summoning her bow and arrow and notching it. She frowned and bit her lip in concentration. Whatever was on top of the train must not get inside!
She waited a few moments, but when Obsidian did not get back soon she squeezed her way half-way out the window. She didn't want to leave the the inside of the train -not completely, for fear that whatever was out there would easily find its way inside with an unguarded room. Looking out, she could not see what was going on that well. The only thing she could see was the top of the Gem mutant's head. Her eyes widened in fright. She could not spot Obsidian at this angle. Huffing, she aimed her bow, shot at the creature, and then quickly dipped back inside to reload. Was Obsidian still on top of the train? Is she alright?
The screech of the Gem mutant was loud and bone-jarring. It sent shivers down Amber's spine. She gasped as it's gem-skull peeked into one of the windows, hanging upside down from the roof of the train. Amber took aim, but the creature screeched again receded. Hm? Amber went to that window to look out, but the monster surged forward and collided heads with Amber -making her fly back. She smashed into the wall opposite of the window. Pain shot through her body. The monster tried climbing in through the window, trying to fit its huge body through the small opening.
"Obsidian?!" Amber called out. Where is she? Struggling to get up, she looked out the window and found Osidian's collapsed figure on her side of the roof. She opened the window a crack, hurriedly, and called out, "Obsidian, wake up! It's trying to board the-" She was interrupted when the mutant rattled the wall of the train. Glancing over, it was slamming its body against the wall -and doing so very serious damage too! Dents and bowls could be seen in the wall, as if it was caving in! Pure metal! Pure steel! Yet this mutant...
She shot another arrow at it through the window, hitting it in its chest. It screeched and reeled back a bit, but seemed only more furious. What kind of Corrupted Gem was this? It had extra limbs, and its face -its gem- was beyond scary. She's never seen one like this before. This one almost seemed, though like a vulture, also humanoid? The smol Gem trembled a bit, though tried righting herself out, trying to show no fear to the enemy. This was for Morion! For Obsidian! For Homeworld, for Her Majesty Pink Diamond. She shot at it again.
The arrow struck at its small little head that supported its large Gem. It hissed loudly, seeming that it was the weak spot of the creature, but the weakness only fueled its rage. It managed to rip the wall off of the train, crumpling it like it was an aluminum can! What the hell? It threw the wall off into the blazing desert-like terrain, and then glared at Amber with its "eye sockets" on its skull-shaped Gem.
The creature reared back and sprung toward it's prey. It's eyesockets seemed to be full of bloodthirsty rage, anticipation to dig it's talons into the little gem. Obsidian charged in front of her friend and held her shovel horizontally. She blocked the attack and only slid about a foot. She had handled the blow surprisingly well. She crouched down and using her entire body she performed a large swing upward, connecting hard with her opponent. It was hurled into the sky, and on instinct flapped it's wings to stay airborne. Obsidian leapt onto the roof and pointed her shovel at the creature, trying to line it up and lock on to it. Suddenly the vulture took an unexpected turn, it flew downward. It grabbed a crate in it's skull-jaws and hurled it at Obsidian. The crate phased through her, she didn't as much as flinch. Using it's surprise to her advantage she ran forward and skewered it's forehead with her Shovel. It shrieked and poofed into a large puff of smoke. Unfortunately it was out of Obsidian's catching range and plummeted downward.
"Amber! Quick catch it!" She yelled. But it was a big gem...how would amber be able to catch it?
Amber lunged forward out of the missing wall of the train, summoning her wings so she could fly out quickly. Her inorganic heart raced as she reached out. Her wings fluttered as fast as they could; they weren't too speedy, being butterfly wings, but they were able to get the job done. Amber dropped a bit to the ground as she caught the big ole gem. She held it in her arms and looked down at it with a frown. Another one. Another Corruption. She fluttered back to the train and into the car that the battle took in.
"Hopefully the humans won't mind the mess," Amber huffed. She gave Obsidian the Gem. "We should probably check on the cargo; who knows? This could have been a distraction."
Obsidian gasped. Amber was right, she had not thought of this! It was definitely a distraction! She grabbed Amber's hand and sprinted down the train. She reached the car that held the crates Morion was shipping. They were completely fine, not even a scratch was on them. Obsidian sighed and leaned against the wall of the car. A bit disturbed by the bumping of the train she turned to Amber.
"Heh, that was nice back there, catching the corrupted gem. It was a heavy one too!" Obsidian put her sombrero back on and tipped it below one eye. "It's odd that it happened on coincidence huh? Maybe we're a bit paranoid..." The train continued to rumble. The Ground must have been uneven and rough.
Amber tilted her head, and observed the cargo herself. It was true; it was unharmed in any way. "Hm. Well, the important thing is that the cargo is safe, and we can still continue our mission." She refused to believe it was over, but right now no further enemy was in sight. She bit her bottom lip, trying to think. What if the enemy didn't need to be in sight? What if they were hiding somehow? Or maybe that Corrupted Gem was a scout of some sort, an experiment of some sorts, and somehow everything became confirmed?
"One should stay behind with the crates," she said after a bit. "Just in case anything slinks up. The other can patrol the rest of the train. I don't know what that Gem was doing here, and why it was so anxious in getting in, but where there's one there may be more of them. We can't take the risk of the cargo getting harmed." She seemed to be taking her job very seriously. Perhaps she was ill-afraid of failing another big mission like this?
Obsidian smiled and chuckled a bit. She put her hand on Amber's shoulder.
"We're just a bit paranoid that's all, it's not like anything is in here with u-" before she could finish her sentence a shadowy figure emerged from one of the crates. He stabbed with what looked like a small golden knife containing a ball of green electricity. Obsidian's blood ran cold and she poofed. The figured leapt over the crate and landed in front of Amber. It was the masked man.
"Well well well" The man said. He pulled his mask off, revealing that he was a human about twenty five with black hair and an eyepatch. "My name is Lamanyc! Thought you should know since this is our second confrontation!" He spun and aimed his tool at Amber. "I Could be wrong but I feel like one of you, aliens, sent this cargo! It could be useful. So unless you want me to zap you like your purple friend I suggest you hand it over!"
Amber jumped, startled, at her friend's sudden poofing. "Obsidian!" Immediately guilt washed over her. She should have known! Why didn't she send out her aura-reading ability to double-check to see if anyone else was around? Her hands trembled a bit. 'I'm so sorry,' she apologized within her mind. When the masked man -Lamanyc- addressed her, she turned on him with an angry scowl that was unlike her to have.
"Excuse me?!" She stomped towards him. "You interfere with out mission, attack our train with a Corrupted Gem, rip off the darn wall, poof my friend, and you just expect me to hand it over?! I may not be a fancy shmancy warrior, pal, but THAT ISN'T NICE!" She summoned her bow and arrow and equipped an arrow. She aimed it at him. "Get. Off. The train."
This was something that the Masked man did not expect. Her quick move left him no options. Lamanyc put his hands in the air and snickered. He looked at the floor.
"This was a stuipid plan... I should have just stayed hidden or some Jazz..." He said. " You want me to get off of this train huh? I`ll GET OFF OF THIS TRAIN!" He jumped out of the window of the train and rolled on the floor. He was covered in cuts and bruises but somehow he was alive? Obsidian's gem was still on the floor, unmoving. Fortunately Lamanyc hadn't attempted to grab her on the way out. She was poofed for quite some time, she must have put a bit of thought into her next form.
Amber watched the masked man just... jump out the window. Okay. Sure. Why not? She pondered at his purpose for even being there in the first place. Obviously the cargo caught his attention. Amber frowned. She would have to closely guard the supplies from now on.
She turned to the poofed Gem on the floor. She knelt down beside it with a deep frown on her face. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have let that happen." She had no idea if Obsidian could hear her. Besides, Obsidian was only poofed, not shattered; she'll come back. She patted the Gem, "But the cargo is safe now! ...Hopefully... We still have a long journey ahead of us-"
As she said this a rusty squeaking noise was heard. She paused, listened to it for a moment with a slightly tilted head, and went to investigate. She opened the train-car door and -what! Her eyes went round as the rest of the train sped off -separate from the car they were in! She could fly after it, but she definitely was not strong enough to bring the rest of the car back to the train! How? How was that possible? Did the mask man have something to do with this? She couldn't leave Obsidian and the cargo like this. What now?
Obsidian unpoofed sitting on the floor of the train. She stretched and yawned audibly. She noticed that her uniform's design had changed, she liked the change. Looking around she noticed the gravity of her situation. The cargo was separated from the train! She couldn't simply grab it and jump! That was ridiculous! If someone wanted to steal the cargo she would have to stay there to defend it. She summoned her shovel and twirled it through the air. She stabbed it into the floor dramatically and looked around for any sign of intruders. This was the best way to repay Morion after all he had done for her... she wasn't prepared to fail so easily. She watched the train fade into the distance. She smiled and put on her Sombrero, ready to fight.
"Obsidian!" Amber gasped in relief, though she paused when she saw her friend's new appearance. Huh. Nice.
"The train," she resumed. "It... it's gone!" A deep frown came to her face. She pointed to the departing train, then gestured to the separated car that they were in. "It's gone! We're here. THAT'S here!" She pointed to the cargo. "What now?!" She imagined Morion's face when they go back to him. Would he be mad? Surely he'd be disappointed. Her heart dropped to her stomach. Pain etched onto her face. She couldn't disappoint another Gem... she couldn't be a failure AGAIN.
There was a growl beneath the train car. Then, suddenly, a clawed hand reached up from the bottom and reached inside the care, pulling up a large and feral-looking Corrupted beast. Another one?! The Masked Man must still be around... Amber looked at Obsidian with wide eyes.
Obsidian looked around the desert frantically, searching for any sign of the masked man...Lamanyc. She saw no corrupted gems or even suspicious places to hide. She tipped her Sobrero, giving her some shade. She was only being paranoid... there was nothing near her. Suddenly a claw grabbed ahold of the car. It reeling in a large feral-looking corrupted gem. She twirled her Shovel, ready to fight. She ran toward the beast and violently swung at it's head relentlessly. It hefted itself aboard the car. It slapped Obsidian onto the far wall of the car and began to advance. She tried to shove it backward with her shovel, but it proved stronger and again hurled her against the wall. She wasn't ready to give up! She stood up as her body trembled.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
