It was dusk, the sky was a brilliant pink-orange color since it had rained recently. Puddles of water and clouds of fog dominated the area, humidity was high. From above, it seemed that the area was completely at peace. However, it was the location of Rose Quarts' healing fountain. The long staircase proved difficult for the beast climbing them. His legs and arms were so flexible that they were like tentacles, while they successfully allowed him to glide across the ground slopes were difficult. The cracked gem was a severe case, he didn't even look like a proper gem anymore. One look at him and one would assume he was a corrupted gem. Unfortunately, this is exactly what he thought would happen.
He reached the top of the staircase, scanning the area. Fortunately it seemed no one was in sight. He could finally be healed, or so he thought. As he set foot in the structure four holo-pearls appeared to fend him off.
"Threat detected! Threat detected!" They chanted robotically.
He swung his clawed tentacles at them, in an attempt to ward them off but it was no use. The climb on the staircase had rendered him slow-moving. The pearls sliced at him with their blades, each stroke with a deadly amount of accuracy. As oddly slender as he was he was able to dodge many of the strikes but he was eventually stabbed. His body briefly became static. He moved frantically, trying to find a way to the fountain.
Em took her time as she moved towards the fountain. As she approached the fountain become larger looking until it was larger than she ever would have imagined. She couldn't see the entire thing yet, a few large bushes were blocking her way. To her surprise she quickly realized that they were heading towards her. She waited a minute to see what they were doing, until they started attacking her. "I'm not dealing with these right now." She stated clearly as a fake gem fell to the ground, and she disappeared. The bushes stopped attacking, and pulled away moving back towards the fountain. At this point Em easily was able to move past them without being seen, and reach the fountain. As soon as she reached it she turned visible again, and to her relief the bushes no loner pursued her.
She could hear some noises in the distance, but decided to ignore them for the time being. Her mission was to find information about the Crystal Gems, and from the information she received for her mission this fountain was highly visited by them. There was supposedly something special about this fountain, and she was told to collect the water. She wanted to get this portion of her mission out of the way before attempting to have fun on this planet. She quickly pulled open a small container she held in her hand, and scooped up the water. "Well that was easy." She walked away from the fountain, but as she walked away the water very literally jumped out of the container, and back into the fountain. She tried scooping it up, and walking away again, this time she put the lid on tightly. The water easily unscrewed it, and simply jumped right back in. Em laughed slightly. "It has a mind of it's own, that's fun." She spoke to herself. She messed with the water for a few more minutes before she definitely heard something talk. "... Detected! Threat....." It was extremely faint, but she could make out these words.
She started heading towards the source of the talking now interested. She watched the bushes expecting them to attack again, because the bushes didn't attack her she was able to move close to the source of the sound. What came into her sight after walking for a minute was an odd thing. A gem with... tentacles? was attacking robotic pearls. "Little buddy can you turn into me, and check out what's going on down there?" With her words a small, but bright light orb appeared, and changed into a form identical to Em. The form nodded, and sprinted towards the gems. Em knew it couldn't attack anything, but she wanted to see which side was the hostile one, or if both were. She watched carefully as the form approached the fight, and stopped right beside it waiting for some type of reaction.
The sun beat down so hard on his odd, almost liquid body. The intense heat made him feel like he was melting. As he swung his clawed appendages he knew he was fighting a losing battle. The pearls began to wear him down, an occasional stab made him lurch. Hissing noises came from his face, which was mostly nonexistent. He leapt into a short pillar and used his advantage of the high ground to strike down one of the holo-pearls. Suddenly, one of the pearls sliced down the pillar he was standing on. He dropped to the floor and was struck by another blow from one of his assailants. Their robotic chanting became unbearable. His body twisted and bent as if he had no bones, this was in fact, not far from the truth. Suddenly he heard footsteps coming his way. A green gem caught his attention. It was so convincing that he assume it was a real gem, not simply a form of light. Unfortunately, turning toward the hologram had caused him to lose his concentration, he was impaled in the chest. While he succeeded to cling to his physical form rather than retreating to his gem this caused him to lurch backward. He dashed toward the fountain but it was not long before one of the pearl sentries leapt in front of him. The remaining three security bots began to close in.
Em sighed. "I don't want to have the chance of getting killed, but also it's rude just to let that thing die.... Hmmm...." After think for a moment Em's gem glowed brightly, and the tops of thumbtacks stuck out of it. She pulled three out, and threw one at each pearl to gather their attention. From the pearls perspective it should look like the form threw it, not the hidden Em.
Em waited a moment to watch the pearls. She sent the form closer to them. After a bit of deliberation she finally decided the pearls must be the aggressive side, and that the creature obviously needed help. Before she wasn't so sure if she really wanted to help, but now she did. There was still no chance she would risk her life for it though, so for any attacks she would stay hidden, and try to make it look like it came from the forms direction.
As she simultaneously threw the thumbtacks, she sent the form to charge at the pearls. It swerved quickly between the three pearls, and around them. Em was doing all this to gather their attention. If it was successful the form would run as far as possible before disappearing hopefully giving Em time to help the creature. If it was not successful Em would start throwing the thumbtacks relentlessly at the pearls hoping to pin them down.
(Sorry if this was confusing, I didn't want to control your npc's so I gave the two possible options for the pearls to do.)
Last Edit: Jan 6, 2017 23:55:23 GMT by Em: I thought it was a bit to short, and beefed it up.
The Pearls were seemingly surprised at the attacks, causing them to break formation. One of the pearls decided to attack, assuming that it's target was the hologram. The pearl swung it's blade three times quickly toward it's target, with deadly accuracy. By the time that it noticed that it's victim was fake it's comrades were obliterated. Struggling to block the strange, thumbtack weapons, the pearls put their guard down against Sulfur. He lashed out by impaling one of them with his tentacle, before bashing it's body against the other. He leapt into the air and took down the second pearl with a downward slice of his appendage. The remaining pearl attacking the hologram was pierced in the face by the final Thumbtack.
Sulfur didn't have time to investigate his rescuer, he continued to trudge toward the fountain. Upon reaching the side of it's water he allowed himself to freely fall into the basin. His body began to glow as he emerged. The Gem emerged from the pool, flicking his long hair out of his face, it had become soaked from the water. His hair was a bright green color, while his skin was paler. His uniform had a strange yellow shape resembling both the crystal gem's star, and Homeworld's diamond sigil. He grabbed the edge of the fountain and hoisted himself violently from it's basin. His expression was a bit condescending, as if he was uncomfortable.
He hopped about a foot into the air and began to levitate. As he hung in the air he complacently scanned his horizon. All he succeeded in finding was the hologram of Emerald. He floated quickly to it, almost as if he was going to attack it, but dropped to his feet in front of it gracefully. He looked it in the face and smiled. "Did you save me, little one?" He said, softly, as if being cracked for so long had weakened him, he had only started to recover.
Em watched closely making sure there was no one attacking her instead of the form. Thankfully the creature wasn't weak enough yet were it couldn't defend itself, and helped some on defeating the pearls. It was an odd sight once the thing finished off the pearls. It was oddly sprinting towards the fountain, and then hoped in. Em knew the fountain was like no other, but she didn't expect to see creatures drawn to it. After a minute a gem emerged. It had near the same coloration as the creature, and seemed to share a few more resemblances with the creature that had previously jumped in. At this point Em was able to deduce two possibilities that the fountain could do, but for all she knew there could be more.~It either heals corrupted Gems, or it heals cracked gems seems like the most reasonable answer. I wish I could've gotten a look at his gem. If I had seen it I would probably know the answer.~ Em thought as she watched it approach the form, and talked to it. Once he finished talking the form turned back into the small bright orb of light, and zoomed to the fountain as if it was trying to figure out what just happened.
To Em the gem seemed friendly enough, so she didn't count it as a danger to expose herself at this point. "Yes, I saved you. Well I slightly saved you. Little buddy did help out quite a bit. Not to mention you were able to defend yourself some." With these words little light buddy zoomed at the gem, and buzzed around him excitedly. Em looked at the orb of light with disappointment, and obviously the message got across to it. As soon as she looked at it, it stopped racing around, and returned to Em's side. "I'm Em." She introduced herself, but left little time for a response as she asked the question that she had been wondering for some time now. "If you don't mind me asking what just happened?"
After speaking Em realized the sun was going down. It still was enough power to barely keep little light buddy going, and Em would run out of power right when it turns completely dark. Deciding to let her power replenish before night she dismissed little light buddy. It shined brighter than before, and got pulled into the gem as if they were attracting magnets. Since Em now was no longer using any power she should have enough time to replenish her power before night falls.
Sulfur was mildly surprised when he discovered his conversation partner was a hologram. His reaction wasn't too emotional, it seemed that he dealt with things of this sort often. He levitated toward Em as the light bubble orbited around him.
"I don't think I deserve much credit for that...all it takes is a little help to turn the tide. That was a crucial moment for me, you really are my rescuer." He mumbled, softly again. When Em introduced herself Sulfur's eyes widened, he looked at her in shock, but his face softened at her next question. "Oh I wouldn't mind in the least!" He started levitating upside down. He paced around her as if he was walking on an unseen ceiling. although unaffected by gravity, he moved his feet in such a way that there was a surface above them that he was treading on. He stopped in front of her, looking into her eyes although he was hanging upside down from the air.
"This fountain is currently under the protection of holo-pearls. They are very limited in thought processes. Due to my monstrous form they assumed I was a corrupted gem, I can't blame them though." He shrugged and smiled as if that was funny. Suddenly he was next to her, standing upright. He tapped her shoulder gently. "That feels better, well you see, when I am cracked I become...that...beast that you saw. I don't know why it happens, it may be a shapeshifting malfunction. I am sure you can imagine that a healing gem wouldn't want to help me, given my appearance when cracked. The only other way to heal myself is this fountain. Speaking of that...why did you help me?"
Em watched as the strange gem walked upside down on nothing, but air. ~He certainly is an odd gem.~ She wasn't used t gems acting this way. She hadn't left Homeworld all to long ago, and was used to gems constantly saluting, and..... well not walking upside down. She looked at him with wide eyes, and held in a laugh at the very odd scene.
Focusing back at the conversation Em smiled slightly when he spoke of her being a help. Once he started speaking of what happened Em paid close attention making sure she didn't miss a word. The idea of that fountain being able to fix broken gems was certainly an odd one. ~How could a gem that's not here be powering this? Surely the gem that made this must be close by. I don't see how it could work any other way.~ She thought as he paused talking for a moment.
Once he had continued talking she paused to think of why she did held him then answered. "With me being able to sit up here, and just send in little buddy to distract them I was in no danger, and frankly I had nothing better to do. Plus now you've given me valuable information that I've been seeking. What goes around comes around I guess. Alothough, if it would have put me in any danger I wouldn't have helped in all honesty." She answered as she walked back to the fountain beginning to inspect it again, but still listening for anything else the gem had to say. While inspecting she also looked around to make sure there was no gem near powering the fountain.
"Still, I am very grateful that you had nothing better to do!" Sulfur said, grinning. He noticed that she was interested in the fountain. He floated over to where she was, doing a loop in the air. "Ah, you're interested in the fountain I see. It is pretty miraculous that Rose Quartz could create such a thing. It was a huge mistake on her part, do you even know how many homeworld gems use this fountain's healing properties?" oddly he referred to them as homeworld gems rather than 'us'.
"So, Emerald.." he began, already knowing her full name. "What brought you to this place? If it is a mission then I very much understand why you are interested by it..." Sulfur trailed off, seemingly lost in thought. He turned back to Em quickly and smiled, as if to lighten the mood after he had spaced out. " I have been in hypersleep for many years, I have not been able to think straight until just now when you saved me and allowed me to be healed... I have no clue as to what the current state of the planet is. By the way, have you met a smoky quartz? He is an acquaintance of mine."
Em still took interesting in his flight around. It was something she had never seen a gem do before. Remebering to focus on the fountain she once again summoned little buddy. He floated out of her gem, and glowed brightly. "Please go check the surrounding area. Report back to me if you find another gem in this area." Little buddy then floated away until he was out of sight. "Please refer to me as Em. I prefer not to be pushed in with the same group as other Emeralds." She stated clearly. Em then leapt into the air into the fountain. Where she stood the fountain was not deep yet, and only went to her waist. "By the way are you by chance part of the group called 'Crystal Gems'? Also sorry to say, but no I haven't met any Smoky Quartz gems on this planet."
At this point Em climbed out, and grabbed the container she had left on the ground. She carefully scooped up the water, and drank it. She immidiantly spat it out. "Bleh.... It taste salty." She thought out loud. She left the container on the side of the fountain, and then walked to one of the statues. "Rose Quartz huh? Is this her then?" She pointed at the smaller statue on the side of the fountain, and looked towards Sulfur.
"Cool!" Sulfur exclaimed as Em released the Little light buddy for a recon mission. He smiled and watched it go. "That's one way to make sure we're alone!" Em then leapt into the air and into the fountain. "Oh, sorry about that, I find Emeralds quite nice actually. I used to know one about a millennium back, we were close." he smiled, recalling the memory. He then turned in surprise at her question. "Oh no need to worry, the sigil on my chest probably mislead you. You can rest assured I am not one of those disgusting rebels. Pity...well I'd appreciate it if you kept an eye out for him, you've done so much for me already."
Sulfur chuckled at her reaction to the water. "It's not meant for drinking Em!" He laughed. He looked at the statue, cringing a bit. "I cannot be sure...but I think it is... if you remember, I have just a few minutes ago gained consciousness." He looked at it, as if trying to make up his mind. "I asked earlier, what is your business here? Not that I am by any means disappointed, just a bit curious. It's only natural of me to want to help someone who has helped me first." He said, leaning on his side in the air, resting his head on his hand.
Em looked back at the statue as Sulfur talked. She allowed him to talk as she bean investigating the statue. She knocked on it checking to see if it was hollow or if anything about it was off, but it sounded just like she was knocking on a rock. Nothing about it seemed odd. It was just a normal statue.
She listened to his words carefully while inspecting everything she could about the fountain. "I suppose you must not have been unconscious for to long if you know about the rebels. I'll inform you on anything you might have missed if you'd like. Though, not much has changed lately. I suppose the biggest change is much more missions to investigate the rebels, and the earth are being sent here now." She stopped her investigations, and turned to Sulfur to answer his question. "Yes sorry I forgot about your question. I'm here to study any rebel structures, as well as the humans that the rebels are so interested in. Once I've studied all I can I'm to report to Homeworld by any means necessary. " She paused a moment to let him take in the information. "Homeworld knew this place existed, but weren't entirely sure why. So part of my mission was to investigate it." She finished.
Once she had finished talking little buddy zoomed in incredibly fast. "Good, we're alone. You're dismissed." She said towards the glowing orb. After she finished little buddy once again disappeared into her gem.
"Well then I understand why you would come here...there are places I assume the rebels would go to for shelter, but these places are too dangerous to visit alone. I think if it is on your agenda we should start with humans, that's safer. Human cities are easiest to find at night, you see, they have electric lights that are very visible at night. I suggest that we camp out...wherever you camp out, until nightfall. Then with that light sentry of yours, we should be able to locate a human city. I believe that if we wear human garments we can easily blend in to any sort of human environment." Sulfur said, starting to rotate slowly in the air.
Suddenly, he flew straight to her and looked her in the face, about three inches from it. "Blending in would be the best way to learn more about the humans wouldn't you say?" he then leaned back and floated slowly backward, creating distance in case he had violated her personal space. "A side note, should a homeworld official show up, you are not to speak about me. I am not a rebel, but It would not be safe for me to meet someone from homeworld. Being a loyalist as I can only assume you are, I'd expect you to ask a question, but please don't, I prefer to remain enigmatic. My reasons are many and I assure you that they will never be relevant to you, so please, just trust me."
Em took in al the details he spoke about human cities. She did not wish to be surprised once she found one. Once he started to speak of blending in she felt a bit annoyed. As he leaned in closer Em was prepared to punch him right in the nose, as she didn't enjoy people being in her personal space. ~Is he trying to intimidate me or something?~ She started to back up on her own, but he beat her to it. She also noticed amongst all his comments her said something along the lines of 'I suggest we camp out'. She hoped she had not given the wrong signal to him by helping him. She in no way wanted to partner with this gem..... But, it would prove beneficial to her since he obviously knew more about humans than herself.
Em looked a bit confused at his words. He obviously was keeping a low profile with the Diamond Authority, but why? She silently agreed to his terms, but then spoke up. "I will respect you're wishes, and not speak about you to any homeworld gems, or ask any questions. However, because of your odd requests I can't fully trust you. I don't mean to offend you by this. It's just I can't let my mission be compromised by trusting someone that I shouldn't have trusted." She stated it plainly, but tried her best not to sound rude, and then continued. "With all that said, I hope you still want to help me with my mission. I haven't really been staying any where. I've been walking around since I arrived at this planet. We could find a cave using light buddy, but I can only have him out for two hours at a time at night. I'll run out of energy to power within that time if there's no light source." As she talked she once again summoned back the orb of light, and sent him off to look for a cave. "Hopefully it can find a cave soon."
"You have my sincerest apologies, I don't mean to come off as too mysterious, but trust me, this is all necessary. I understand that you do not trust me, in fact, I'd be a bit disappointed if you did, considering how newly met we are!" he smiled, floating about whimsically all the while, providing no explanation as to why he was using his abilities in this manner. "I definitely want to help you on your mission, I am in your debt after all!"
He rubbed his chin and floated around, walking on the ceiling, floating behind her, orbiting her, and even doing loops in the air. When she finished he was lying on his back in the air. "Pity, you have nowhere to stay either... I am in need of a base myself." He floated next to her, high enough that he could look her in the eyes while lying down on the air. "If worse comes to worse we could take refuge at the fountain's fortress."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
