While on the outside Pyrope was calm and collected, albeit with the constant glare she held, on the inside was a wave of emotions. Initially all she could see was red as the sudden urge to strangle Varis right then and there for not getting the hint overcame her. Then fear as she realized he just addressed her in the most personal way possible in front of two loyalist gems (one of which she was still on thin ice with). Lastly there was a sort of calmness as she gathered herself like only a trained soldier could, "You can just call us, er... me Pyrope you know." There was a brief pause, "...Pye does say hi though."
She addressed XB, "Yes well, I met this one a couple times during my efforts here on Earth. He is a Variscite, and despite his appearance he hasn't meddled with any of my missions. He seems to be rather harmless, isn't that right Varis." The sudden glare she shot him was worth a thousand words, all of them being play along!
Howlite examined the situation. It was time to put on the mask of charm once more. He approached the gem. "Hey there! Name's Howlite. Facet 57ZD Cut 9XR." Then he looked to XB and then back at the gem. "ELITE" he said looking to XB before continuing. "Sniper under Yellow Diamond. It's an absolute pleasure to meet you. Perhaps you'd wish to join us on our quest to find rebels?" Howlite held our a hand for a shake to symbolize a deal. The humans taught him that a simple handshake went a very long way.
It was going rather well so far... no one had tried to punch him in the face, Pyrope still seemed a bit...... annoyed. When the first gem in a way, asked what he was called, "Variscite... Varis for short I g-guess." He didn't really care for all the fancy 'cut' and other stuff... not to mention he had no idea what his 'specs' were. Nodding to Pyrope with a bit of a smile, it was still weird to him knowing that Pyrope herself was made up of two quiet different gems. "Yea I know but I wanted to say hi to uh... both of you.. that's weird isn't it?" Thinking about it now it may be kind of odd... but he just wanted to make sure they both got a greeting from him.
The Howlite was much more welcoming, kind of odd.. but they had the rank and sound of a Homeworld gem. "Hi, You can call me Varis I uh... don't know all that other stuff about m-myself heh.. sorry." He shrugged before taking another bite from the still warm pretzel, almost halfway though it now. He happily took the hand of Howlite giving it a firm shake, even Variscite projection seemed scratched up, his hands looking almost cracked here and there. "Yea... sorry Pye and P... err Pyrope." he spoke semi-softly to the fusion, "If your looking for rebels you don't gotta go very f-far... found one." He his this smile across his face... fear had left the tan hued gem.
"Now... got two way we can h-handle this, yea? One.... we fight.... you lose." he seemed to passive about all this, taking a break to take another bite, "Or two... we can talk it out like.... as long as uh.. your not here to hurt any humans or anything then, we are all g-good." He was very straightforward... and talking with a mouth full of pretzel. Finishing his treat and crumbling up the wrapper only to shove it into his hoody pocket.
The Quartz would scoff audibly at the Howlite's introduction, cutting a final, disbelieving glance at Pyrope before interjecting in an attempt to prevent the self destruction of their mission now that a real self-admitted rebel was among them. They made a small vocalization to draw this Variscite's attention, arms forming a loose 'x' across their expansive chest. Despite what the Howlite may believe, it was to Them that this mission was assigned and being out of touch with Home so long made them just another gem 7XB had to rescue from this miserable rock. "I am Clear Quartz Facet 1R7J, Cut 7XB, the quartz in charge of this operation." Their eyes narrowed lightly, nostrils flaring still with the sickening scent of the pretzel. Heels dug as best they could into the concrete walkway beneath them, clearly cautious as shown by the language of their rather large body: being their first encounter with a true rebel, they didn't know what to expect, and they were curious. Were they going to be attacked? "This fusion is accompaning me. We are here to recover.. Rescue gems that have become stranded here within the last few lunar cycles." Since you rebels sabotaged the Comm. Hub. There was a great deal they wanted to say, of course, but as much as they loved inciting conflict and wanted to test the mettle of these 'Crystal Gems', that was not their primary mission. Yet.
"We currently have no interest in you, and certainly not the natives of this Colony."
That feeling of wanting to strangle Varis that Pyrope previously felt made a vibrant comeback as soon as he mentioned his affiliation. Her eye almost twitched, and if one could hear her inner monologue it would something like...
"I swear to the Diamonds I'm going to shatter him Pye, I'm going to do it!"
"Oh leave him be, he's just trying to be proud of what he does."
"He is surrounded BY LOYALISTS! They are going to shatter him if I don't to him first! Wait... what did XB say?"
Her attention snapped back to reality, surprised XB didn't already have their hands around Varis' throat. Howlite as well was taking it rather well, although she felt like he was merely biding his time before striking. Maybe there was still hope, "Yeah, this is a search and rescue mission only. No one is here to harm humans, we don't exactly have a reason to. So feel free to just... go. No need for any conflict." At that point she glanced at Howlite and XB, she was far more worried they were going to start a fight than Varis being the instigator. As far as she had seen, he wasn't exactly a powerful combatant. Or so she thought, he did seem rather confident of himself.
"A Crystal Gem eh? Well that's just a darn shame isn't it? I can't decide who is my target now. I mean I could kill everyone here but I don't wanna do that. Hmmm...." He looked at XB and Pyrope. Then back at Variscite. "I'm sorry friend but uh I'm pretty sure it's gonna have to be you. It's nothing personal. It's just business." He smiled at XB. "This won't take me too long to do." He summoned his rifle. He pointed it at Variscite's gem. "On the ground. Now!" It had been awhile since he had a public poofing. This would be fun.
Seemed like things were.... going well?! This was odd... he was use to things taking a bad turn rather quickly. Took him a moment to realize that he wasn't about to get his clocked cleaned. Having to glance up at bit towards the larger Quarts before him... he thought he was tall, this gem was over a foot taller then him. Clearly she was suppressing some urges to hit him or something.... it was honestly quiet nice of her! "Its nice to meet you C-CQ, Do uh... you want me to say the w-whole thing?" He wasn't very sure if all Homeworld gems said their name like that... was he suppose to say the whole thing as a sign of respect?
He was realived to hear they weren't hear to bust up the planet... "Your here to re-rescue other uh.. Homeworld gems? That's... fine honestly.. ill even help you with that one." He spoke shoving both hands into his hoodie pockets. Glancing towards Pyrope she looked.... very... mad. He tried to shoot her a quick smile to show her, "Hey! Things are fiiiiine! Calm down, please?!" and was just as happy to hear she was agreeing with CQ. "I mean... if you are just tr-...." he was cut off by Howlite.
Who started to talk about not knowing which target he wanted? Then talking about killing everyone here? Was he talking about killing humans? Variscite's whole demander switched up, glaring quickly at Pyrope this kind of... "I should have known..." "On the ground. Now!" with now a rifle pointed at his face. (Gem is on back of neck)
"Fine...." Variscte starts to put his hands up and move onto his knees... still glaring at Pyrope the whole time.... clearly he had this look of betrayal in his eyes. Once on his knees his gem reacted quickly, glowing for just a second before a glowing orb shoots out from the back of his neck. Almost immediately.... the glowing orb turns into a solid crystal ball just long enough before "BOOM!" its shatters open with a loud and forceful explosion. Shards that should have spread out all across the area seemed frozen in place before all (50 or so) started moving for Howlite... none moving towards the other two gems. This was really just to get the eyes off of him, during the whole ordeal Varis would have jumped away towards the side and sprinting around a corner, knowing he would be open to a few shots... he would rather take some pain then let any of the humans get caught in the cross fire.
They were pleased that, thus far, conflict had been avoided. More than anything they were proud of themselves for the uncharacteristic calm they were able to maintain. "You may shorten it, 7XB will suffice well enough." Though the quartz didn't imagine they would converse very much with this rebellious gem; Their offer of support was.. Surprising to 7XB, a slim brow lifting upon an otherwise expressionless face. Was it perhaps some trick? Unfortunately, 7XB would have very little time to ponder this before Howlite mucked it up, even more than they had anticipated. Groaning with frustration at the sheer ignorance of the unsanctioned threat, they stepped forward to take hold of the rifle and disarm the clearly-cracked gem.
They never had a chance.
"I don't require giving anyone authorization to-" Suddenly, a deafening explosion sent them flying back several yards, buffering their hard-light form for several seconds before the force finally uprooted them, sending them flying against the side of an SUV, driving their back into the metal several inches. Ouch. My back. "Pyropes!" They shouted over the ensuing panic caused by the explosion, a cacaphone of shrieking humans running to and fro, "Find that defect before he brings more rebels down around our heads." Or worse, breaks regulation. Again. Pulling themselves out of the metal wreckage with a grunt, they popped their back, and neck, a flash of light coating their hands in metal skin: gauntlets. "I'll find your friend and try to defuse this catastrophe. It was hard to see anything in the vortex of terrified humans; was this how the crystal gems defend the earth? Eyes turned skyward, towards the buildings out of instinct. Where else would they go but up?
Before even being ordered to do say Pyrope moved to smack Howlite's gun to aim up to the sky, reflexively covering the gem on her chest as the explosion went off. Thankfully she was unharmed, noting that the shards only seemed to target Howlite. Speaking of which... "What is your defect soldier! We're here to save gems, not shatter them!" Her attention whipped around to XB, nodding a confirmation, "You got it XB, try to take the Variscite intact. I'm going to have some words with him..." The fusion glared at Howlite, "Look Howlite, let's not make more enemies than we have alright? Just like yourself, a lot of gems can be brought back into service. So would you kindly take your itchy trigger off that rifle and stand down!" She made no move to summon her weapon, Howlite hadn't made an enemy out of them just yet, though he was on thin ice.
Howlite grinned. "My defect? Oh it's quite simple. I'm a free thinker. I hate the idea of authority. So I hate being told what to do. Back on Homeworld, I only followed orders because of self preservation. But guess what? They're not here." Then he put his rifle away. "Another part of my defect is that I'm insane. In case you don't already know that. So when I get a chance to kill an enemy... I'm gonna do it. Yeah I have an itchy trigger finger but who cares? Out in the wild, away from your bodyguards and fellow gems, you have to have a trigger finger or else you're food. And I never said I was here to save lives. That's why you're here. Not me. I will stand down however." He gave her another charming smile. "I'd never wanna do anything to hurt you. A gem like you must be respected and appreciated."
This was much more like how Varis was use to Homeworld gems responding to him, Varis was pushed up against the wall he was hiding behind. He felt like such a clod for how he had to get away... that trick was something he never wanted to use around humans... yet thankfully none were caught in the bang. Peaking around the corner he saw.... what? How did none of his shards land on Howlite? He had not moved? It was like the explosion never happened for him. The shards to his crystal ball had all stabbed into the ground around Howlites feet.
Sighing before glancing at Pyrope, he figured they were their friend... maybe it was all just a trick? Homeworld gems seem to do that a lot anyways. This was not the time to think about them, his chain poofing into his hand, his fingers wrapped around the final loop of the chain, the other end clearly looked like it should be linked into the crystal ball. He didn't want to move... he didn't want to fight Pyrope even if they were gonna fight him. Better move or die right?
Varis stepped out from behind the ledge, swinging his heavy ball and chain around faster and faster, "Lets just get this over with..." he was quiet... no stutter, not calm either, with that being said he launched the crystal ball from his chain, flying straight towards Howlite and Pyrope, not very sure which one would get smacked by the heavy/dense crystal ball around the size of a large vollyball, not wanting to waste any time, Varis had bent his knees and took a page from his old friend Carbonados playbook, launching himself towards 7XB with a fist cocked back and aiming right for her jaw. He wasn't sure if the ball would hit Howlite, he wasn't even sure if his punch was on point... three on one didn't leave a lot of room to be precise. All he could do was swing... hope he made it out on top.
Though one could, perhaps, say that 7XB was not the most observant of Quartz, it was not entirely their fault; It would be nearly impossible to spot a flesh-colored gem in a swamp of humans like this even if they WEREN'T hiding. So, when 7XB turned on their heels a moment later only to find the Variscite gem flying towards them, fist first, they had very little time to react, instinctively turning their head sideways to take the strike upon the jaw, clearly expecting the punch to land: nothing they couldn't handle, really. As it made contact, though, the quartz would quickly hook their steel-coated fist upward in what seemed to be a rather savage uppercut at first, though this would soon turn out to be incorrect. They..well, despite how much they wanted to fight, a quick solution to this debacle was preferential. So, their first fingers, hopefully, would take hold of the front of Varis' hoodie upon their attack, "Enough." Their words struck commandingly, "I'm not fighting you." Traitor. "I've got things to do that are vastly more important."
This time Pyrope's glare held strong, Howlite's charm had little effect on her after such a display. Not to mention admitting that he was insane definitely put her off, even if he was rather charismatic. "You really are a charmer aren't you, heh. Flattery will only get you so far, let's see if you can control yourself. Varis is... a friend. Though I did not know his affiliation till now I'll admit. Still, I won't have him harmed, or so help me I-!" During her lecture Pyrope failed to hear the quiet voice of Varis, and despite the size of his weapon it caught her off guard. Only at the last moment did she turn her head to see the ball moments before impact, getting struck directly into her face and chest. Her body went flying backwards towards Howlite, collapsing prone and dazed.
Her head was spinning, and she would have sworn she could see two XBs, "Eugh... why couldn't he have a sword or something..." Shaking her head clear Pyrope focused on the conflict between Varis and XB, noting thankfully that they were trying to end things peacefully. She stood up and dusted herself off, addressing Howlite and making sure he didn't try to enter the fray, "Let XB and I handle this, alright?" She quickly made her way up to the two of them, maintaining some distance in case the attacks continued, "Varis..." It was clear by her tone and scowl she was not happy, "You are going to come with me and Pye and we are going to have a little talk." She made no move to summon her weapon, though she kept her guard up nonetheless.
When Pyrope landed on Howlite, his cheeks flushed with white. Then as she got back up Howlite smiled. "Whatever you say. I'll stay out of this one." He knew that if he were complacent that the heat would die down eventually. He simply laid back and watched. It was a shame he couldn't kill this one but he'd make due. There was always another Crystal Gem somewhere. He then began to study the rebel. What had hit Pyrope? Obviously it was intended for him. It was some kind of explosive. Interesting. What was the rebel going to do at this point? If push came to shove and the gem attacked him, he'd have no choice but to defend himself. But that was unlikely. With XB and Pyrope playing diplomat, he figured he'd be fine.
Having no idea if his crystal ball had made contact or not, he closed in on the Quartz gem, rapidly. As his fist made contact with the gem, he was almost surprised that he hit his target, even if they turned their head to absorb the blow better, that's just good planning on her part. Not having the best recovery time he wasn't really prepared for the next swing from the Quartz, leaving himself rather open. Expecting to get clocked by the larger gem, only to get gripped up and held by his hoodie, feet not quiet even touching the ground anymore.
That was more of a command then anything, Varis was quiet... gears still turning in his mind. "I'm not fighting you." He felt like there was something here she wanted to say.. "I've got things to do that are vastly more important."
Giving her a quick smirk as if saying 'I'm not falling for THAT!' and before Pyrope came back into his vision, taking this opportunity to get in one last blow and get some distance between him and the other gems, using his head he.... oh wait... no that's it. He used it head, literally, pulling his head back only to thrust it violently into 7XB's. That was his plan either way, hoping to get her to let him go.
If she did let him go he would drop back to the ground and back up a few feet from the group... if not he was sure she would not be happy with him. "Varis..." That didn't sound good..
Turning his gaze over to see Pyrope... no weapon in hand or anything, still didn't drop his guard. "You are going to come with me and Pye and we are going to have a little talk." There was nothing he would have wanted more then to ditch these two gems and bail out with his friends, "Uh-huh.... I don't plan on g-getting cracked again, you two wanna talk, s-say it now." He wasn't happy and pretty clear he didn't want to be saying this... he hated doing what he was doing, he hated the fact Pye and Pyer were upset with him. He couldn't put his guard down now in-case this was all a trap, he didn't plan on fighting in this city, still glancing about looking for a way to bolt away to safety.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
