Blinding and Burning (Closed Ice, Fire Agate, Dark Spinel)
The tide was coming in, pounding against the sand and then retreating back a ways, over and over. Ice wasn't sure why he felt so drawn to this spot on the beach, but he found himself coming back time and time again. He got caught in a trance, just watching the waves moving in and out, they calmed him, just a little, even if he had no idea why. After several minutes, he broke from the trance, shaking his head a little and trying to remember what it was he was doing. There was something he was planning on doing, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. It wasn't important anyway, nothing he ever did was really that important, so it didn't matter and he dropped it.
He dropped to his knees on the sand, levelling it out to make a nice flat spot to lie down on and finish watching the waves. When he was done, he carefully lowered himself down onto the sand, bringing his knees up to his chest and curling himself up like a ball. He was always so cold, and the position seemed to lessen his shivering to some extent, even if it didn't really help that much. He turned his head to look up at the sky, getting sand in his hair in the process. It was still dark out, but he was pretty sure the orange star was going to rise soon, and that always made things brighter. Closing his eyes, he listened to the sound of the crashing water, it was so quiet and peaceful that it was all he could hear. That is, until some faint noise interrupted it. It wasn't very loud, and was probably far away, but Ice could've sworn he heard something, and it was hard to miss noises when all you could hear was the ocean.
Suddenly, a tall Quartz Gem emerged from the water. It was clearly the same Agate that visited this beach not even a day ago. Some of the bystanders still might remember her encounter with the 'traitor' Howlite, how she nearly broke the Gem if it wasn't for Sulfur's interference. Even looking at this place made the Quartz's stomach turn upside down, in a manner of speech.
She turned her head to Ice, recognizing quite clearly the Diamond logo spanning across his chest. She wasn't exactly familiar with this type of Gem, assuming quickly he was just one of the lesser laborers she often didn't even bother to glance at back on Homeworld. Yet still, here on Earth he was one of the first Homeworld-aligned Gems she has seen in weeks if not months.
"Finally. - Another member of the true Gem Hierarchy. - I've been scouting the Ocean and Surface for days and I couldn't find any of us... And this place, it's crawling with dissidents... You shouldn't be here, it's not safe."
Fire Agate proclaimed loudly in a manner worthy of a strong Quartz warrior. She glanced down at Ice, overshadowing the smaller Gem.
There it was again, the noise that interrupted the waves. Ice got up onto his hands and knees, now cupping his fingers around his ear in hopes of hearing it better. Ice nearly fainted when an entire gem just rose from the waters in front of him. He was always shivering from the cold, but now he was shivering just a little more, purely out of fear. The gem walked up onto the sand, getting taller and more intimidating as they finally stepped on land. Ice could tell already, that this was an Agate. A supervisor of sorts, typically responsible for disciplining gems. Ice knew they existed, but never worked with one, it was probably a good chunk of the reason why he didn't always remember to say his cut and facet, or know when to salute.
Ice looked up at the agate, becoming even more aware of how tall they were, slowly changing his expression from one of fear to one of confusion. It was already clear to him that this gem had not been so lucky with their first encounters. "I wouldn't say this place is crawling with dissidents, it's really quite safe here." Ice smiled, although part of him felt like what he said wasn't entirely true. After all, Morion had recently filled him in on all the awful things that lurk in the night. "Well... for the most part anyway. I have been told of some pretty terrible things out here, but I haven't actually seen any." Ice was thinking of the corrupt gems as well as the rebels, both had him slightly concerned with going out alone, but he figured they musn't be that common if he hadn't seen any here before. Ice remembered who he was talking to, quickly blurting out his information as if he were some kind of robot. "Oh!... I'm Ice, Facet 5L3L Cut..." Ice paused for a moment, taking a second to remember his cut. "5...C...X" He finished with a diamond salute, although it wasn't perfect by any means.
Fire Agate looked at Ice in confusion as he was barely able to remember his Cut and Facet. She was honestly surprised that a Gem so uncultivated and undisciplined could exist. Regardless of that, Ice was the only true Homeworld gem she met since loosing her Roaming Eye and the Rubies assigned to her. As such, he was Fire Agate's best and only connection to other Homeworld Gems on Earth.
"What kind of manners are these?! - You barely remember your own name, Gem! Clearly, you need a reminder of how to speak to your superiors!"
She shouted at the frozen piece of water, being perhaps too close to need any sort of shouting or even higher than usual intonation. Regardless, the Agate did so nonetheless in a very demanding, bossy and admittedly pretty intimidating tone. Following that, she smacked Ice once across the face, hoping to bring the Gem back to reality.
"Pff... One has to wonder what do they teach Gems when they pop out nowadays. - If we were on Homeworld and I was a Sapphire, you would already be good for shattering. - Lucky for you, this isn't Homeworld... nor am I a Sapphire."
Fire Agate proclaimed before pausing for a while. During this pause, she folded her arms behind her back.
Believing that Ice had enough time to gather up and sort things out in his mind, she carried on with her speech.
"Alright... I'm not here to stress you, 5CX.. Just tell me, have you seen any other Homeworld Soldiers around?"
Ice wasn't sure what to expect, he knew what agates were usually for, and realised that his performance was poor, but he'd never actually seen an agate in action. At first she looked confused, but in a matter of seconds she went full agate on him. Ice was a weak an isolated gem, he'd never really been yelled at in his entire existence. Being the sensitive little baby that he was, his eyes welled up with tears only midway through the agate's talk, freezing into ice shards right below his eyes before anyone could've even seen the water. He was then caught completely off guard when the agate slapped him across his face, sending the frozen tears off towards the ground.
Ice wasn't used to it, but it was nothing more than a wake up call. He wasn't with the same gems he'd worked with in the past, and he needed to learn how to operate with them properly if he was going to survive.
He looked up at the agate, listening to what she asked. Quickly running through all the gems he'd met during his travels. "I have. Quite a few actually." He wasn't sure if the agate wanted to know more about them, so he just kept quiet and awaited further instructions.
"Finally some sensible words. - I don't think I could have handled another moment of your incisiveness weeping... Oh well, at least you are of some use to Homeworld yet. - Now go on.. tell me what you know."
The Agate proclaimed in a manner that was slightly less hate-filled and perhaps a bit condescending towards Ice. She definitely seemed pleased by the fact that Ice knows several things that my come in handy. She herself couldn't find many Quartzes since she was assigned the mission, and it seemed like Ice was just the informant she needed to find. With this sort of breaking point, Fire Agate started considering seeking out Ice for council more often.. Well, that would be only for so long as he remains useful, otherwise she would have ensured that he shipped to the Moon Base and assigned a proper work order.
Ice blushed, now embarrassed by how easily he teared up, and how the agate noticed it. He was still shivering now, but it a less intense shaking, more from the cold than out of fear at this point. He did his best to suck it up and simply respond to the agate's question, trying hard to remember every detail about every gem he'd met since his arrival. "Okay... There's a Fire Opal, and I'm pretty sure he's a warrior gem of some sort, he's crazy strong too. Then there's Morion the smokey quartz... I don't know much about him, just that he's kinda in charge of the City of Empires, and he's an assassin of some sort. The Fire Opal is the smokey quartz' apprentice. Hmmm, there's also a sapphire and a bumble bee jasper somewhere. I saw them just once though, I have no clue where they are now." Ice hadn't realised just how many gems he'd already met in his travels until now, and the list kept going. "Oh, I've also met a lapis lazuli, and a blue quartz, both right on this beach. Again though, I have no clue where they've gone off too. The blue quartz actually had a ship too!" He took a second to go over it in his head to make sure he'd gotten them all, before giving a not so confident "That's everyone I think"
"That's all? - I knew there wasn't many of us here on Earth, but this is worse than I thought. - Regardless, the Homeworld appreciates your cooperation. - You wouldn't believe how many Gems can't shut their traps about Earth being precious and worth protecting... It's good finally meeting someone semi-sensible... Just work on your manners, you wouldn't pass for one of us back Home.. And you know who's coming to Earth, so you better be prepared to remember your name."
The Agate loudly proclaimed in a very bossy way, the sentences were rather run-on and quickly spoken, hurling information upon information onto Ice every second. It is obvious that Fire Agate was used to working Gems that could comprehend such a quantity of data. Through she really doubts Ice would pass for one of those people, so she simply tried to slow down by the end.
"Now... is there anything else?"
She added, giving Ice a moment to process everything that just went down.
"This planet is a joke... And it stopped being funny." -Fire Agate
Dark sat perched on a rock. As of now he was invisible. These to gems both seemed aligned with homeworld and neither seemed very perceptive. He could probably pass as one in their ranks. After all, he had worked closely with the diamonds before. This should be a breeze, he thought to himself. He jumped down from his rock and landed near the two. He became visible.
Both of you, State your name and purpose of being here. He said in his authoritative voice. This would hopefully go over well. Planting some spies into Homeworld could always work to his advantage. He was playing both sides anyway. So this would most likely go over smoothly. But just in case, he always had his flashbangs ready.
Fire Agate questioned Ice before turning to the newcomer. She inspected the Gem rather closely with her functional eye, bewildered by his mannerisms and rather bossy behavior, something she herself should be doing as an Agate. It mildly disgruntled her, that someone dared to place themselves above an Agate.
"You are speaking to an Agate Officer, Gem. - Which of us do you suppose is meant to ask the questions here?! - Homeworld dictates that Gems of my type be addressed with absolute respect and certain degree of professionalism.... So let me ask you - You...YOU!"
The Agate paused for a moment before lowering her voice. Her previous speech towards Dark Spinel seemed rather outrageously angry compared to what followed.
"Bah.. Excuse my intonation, thousands of years on this planet can really dry a Gem of all their tolerance. - I'm Firge Agate, Facet-4G2H, Cut-7LF, Military Official in Yellow Diamond's court. - I'm overseeing that Quartzes from Earth be safely mobilized and accounted for. This pathetic mess of a Gem is Ice, Facet 5L3L, Cut-5CX.. Wreck barely remembers his own name. - And you are?"
She said in already much calmer demeanor than before, dropping the commanding voice and act in favor of more calm and collected speech pattern. She was still pretty loud and clear in her voice, just a little bit more sensible.
Seemingly out of nowhere, another gem appeared, this time it was a variant that he couldn't recognise at all. Ice looked up to the agate at first, as if he was looking to her for some sort of explanation, but it appeared that she didn't have a clue either. "No, I've never seen this gem or any gems like them for as long as I can remember..." He brought his eyes over to the new gem, trying hard to remember any little piece of information, but he'd really never seen this type of gem before, so it was no use. He just watched, as the agate started lecturing him, making sure to keep his mouth shut the entire time.
After giving a rather loud speech to the new gem, the agate turned down the volume down and simply answered the gem's question. Ice followed with just a nod, as if to say that everything the agate was saying was true. He felt no need to chime in and introduce himself, as the agate had already done a good job of that herself, sort of. Ice didn't like her calling him a wreck, but it wasn't like he was willing to speak up, so he just held onto his silence. He also made note of the type of agate, as he wasn't quite sure up to this point. He wondered if Fire Agate had fire powers like Chip(Fire Opal), but dismissed the thought quickly, as that wasn't how gems work...
I am a Dark Spinel. I'm Facet 8K5K Cut 4BP. I am White Diamonds personal Assassin. I could quickly shatter you any day so I suggest you keep quite. I quickly outrank you, and I assure you, I will treat you with the same amount of respect that you show towards 5XB over here. Do I make myself clear?
This was going more smoothly than Dark expected. The Gem seemed to be a Fire Agate. But since the Agate was of Yellow Diamonds court Dark would quickly outrank him. This gem certainly had attitude And was getting on Dark's nerves. The other gem, Ice? Seemed very calm. He seemed to be a very low classing gem either way. Was he shivering? They were on the beach in the middle of summer. Maybe it had something to do with his gemstone. Ice. It had something to do with the cold. It was made in cold places. Humans didn't typically like it. That's what the weird human said during the... winter? Yes, that was when Ice was made.
"I won't ask for forgiveness, my Clarity. - My behavior was totally unacceptable. Still, Earth is such a Diamond-forsaken place that I wouldn't expect someone of your importance to muster the effort to come here. - What brings you here anyways,my Clarity?"
She said, continuing in the heavily orderly and militant tone, if even a slightly bit less assertive due to Dark Spinel's nature. She herself knew that Spinles existed and were priced, she just never saw one in person, cord one straight out of White Diamond's court. Rumors have been heard, but nothing more. As such, Fire Agate mustered to quickly salute towards Dark Spinel in the classic Homeworld way of doing it.
"As for 5CX, I doubt he is even remotely important to whatever business you might want to conduct. He hardly remembers his own name and knows only few Gems here on Earth. - Besides, Ice is a mass-produced Gem that doesn't even come nearly to my importance, or furthermore, your importance, my clarity."
She paused for a while after explaining the situation with Ice to Dark Spinel, clearly acting much more docile this time around. Still, a slight hint of her Agate mannerisms were present.
"This planet is a joke... And it stopped being funny." -Fire Agate
This Fire was in serious of getting on Dark's good side. Anyhow, he was just a pawn in the game of deception. A large game. And Dark was the player. And he was trying to beat The Diamonds. In a championship of the ages.
I am here to squash the rebellion, I am in no need of assistance though. I am the master of all assassins. And this rebellion is futile. I was put here to destroy while there still on earth. But it should be fun to watch them perish at my hand. Everything they've worked toward. In rubble. And gem shards everywhere. Then, White Diamond has new plans for this place... New plans. As for you. Why are you here? You should be out shattering. And as a matter of fact, so should I. 5CX, I have never worked with an Ice before. Tell me, what is your purpose?
If all went well, and so far it was going well, soon he should have Fire Agate and Ice in the palm of his hand. This was much easier than he thought. Weren't Agates supposed to be smart? Of course, most of it was credited to his old-high position in the diamond hierarchy.
"Hold on a minute. - That doesn't add up. Surely, as a superior Officer in White Diamond's Court, you should know that earth is Pink Diamond's colony first and foremost. Furthermore, we are not here to destroy the rebellion... Not yet anyways. - So why would a lone Spinel decide to move in before the army is mobilized? - Was it not for your rank, I would have assumed you are a dissident trying to toy with us. That or one of your informants might be feeding you false information, I recommend punishing the Gem responsible for your secretary work accordingly. - Irregardless, I hope that you will find your stay here mostly pleasing, your Clarity."
She said, heavily suspicious of Dark Spinel's explanation which hardly seemed to add up to what was really going on Earth. Was it a few days ago, the Agate would have easily sworn that the Spinel Gem is flawlessly superior to her. But since her time in the Kindergarten, much of this waned in favor of her individual thinking.
