Sulfur sometimes would just take long walks. He would occasionally see rebels, but they always seemed to vanish before he could get close enough. It never bothered him, the chase itself was exhilarating, the fact that he could make gems flee from him was proof that he could protect himself. He knew that if he walked around the same areas frequently enough he would catch one of the Crystal Gems and bring it's gem back to his new ally, Morion. He liked to capture rebels because he was more likely going to be allowed to shatter them. Sulfur liked nothing more than a good shatter.
As Sulfur walked he noticed that night had fallen. The wind blew through his green hair. The moonlight covered the grassy plains that he walked through. The moonlight was so bright that sulfur could even see the blades of grass blowing in the wind. This was his favorite time of day. The air was cold, but yet did he know that he was next to the hidden forge. Lava and intensely hot metal was just below him inside of a hidden cave. He leaned on a tree, the only tree in sight. He was vigilant for any targets.

Pressure to succeed had increased greatly in the past few weeks. Homeworld continued increasing its efforts, and the rebellion was by no means prepared. To make matters worse, a certain Padparadscha became paranoid Homeworld was hunting down the source of the Crystal Gem's new equipment. As such she had installed a basic security system, nothing terribly fancy, just a few cameras connected to a little hand-held device. The humans called it an Apple or something, something she had always assumed was simply a food but apparently not. It was basic, though it offered a simple enough tool for her to be aware of her surrounding while at work.
It was just this setup that warned her of an incoming presence, the device buzzing away on the table she kept her tools on. She jumped, startled by the device, "Oh what could it possibly be now, I keep saying I don't wish to receive this 'newsletter' Apple!" She picked it up, annoyance giving way to panic. A gem was getting dangerously close to the Forge's entrance, something that wouldn't perhaps be an issue but... something was off. This gem didn't look like they knew where they were, not to mention they didn't exactly look like a rebel... Of course they didn't look much like a loyalist either but still, there was plenty of reason to be skeptical.
She had to act fast, the entrance may be fairly obscured but it wouldn't remain hidden under close scrutiny. A plan had to be made and enacted fast. Resolving herself to some field work she exited the structure, making sure to shut the entrance behind her. "Time to get my hands dirty. Literally..." She shuddered at the thought, but she had to get into character. She grabbed some ashy dirt from the ground and proceeded to... eugh... cover parts of her form with it. It was the last thing she wanted to do, but it as necessary for her planned story to be believable. While she wasn't pleased, once Para was done she pressed up the path to intercept the gem before they came any closer.
Sulfur continued to walk through the plains. A slight grin was on his face as he enjoyed the night air. He thought that he heard a clanging noise, the sound of hammers hitting metal. He quickly dismissed the thought as a long silence paused. As he walked it was only a few steps before he was surprised again. Someone was on the ground, covered in dirt.
"...What.. what is this?" Sulfur raised an eyebrow. He nudged the lump with his foot, unsure if it was even alive. His eyes narrowed, it was indeed a person, but most likely not a human one. "Hello there, why are you covered in dirt? Why are you out in the middle of nowhere? Identify yourself stranger, if you may."

As part of her plan, Para 'tripped' and stay still on the ground a ways away from the Forge entrance. There she waited until the intruding gem disturbed her prone body, "Wh...what...?" She blinked a few times, feigning being disoriented, "H-Hello? I am a Padparadscha, who are you?" At this point she stood up and dusted herself off a bit, again feigning as if she had suffered some sort of previous injury as she winced now and then. "I was out here on a mission when I was jumped by a rogue band of gems and subsequently left here." At this point she grew noticeably nervous, and this time it wasn't an act, "Tell me... what is your affiliation?"
Sulfur smirked briefly but then his expression became a scowl.
"You expect me to give away my affiliation so easily? What has your culture come to, I can assume you're a crystal gem yes?" Sulfur said, making an estimate based off of her outfit. He raised an eyebrow.
"I have never met the type of gem you could possible be... I meet so many new types these days." He said, rubbing his chin. "So, Padparadsha, I am not with homeworld but I am not with the crystal gems. I suppose you are a crystal aswell If I am not mistaken. I am Sulfur, now many I ask what your mission was? We are far from any gem structures and in the middle of a field. Could you not simply warp to where it is you need to go?"

Para could see her plan going down in flames in front of her. Despite all her brains she wasn't exactly skilled at this sort of thing after all! She had to recover fast, although already she had got some crucial information out of this gem. For a moment she was puzzled, had he really deduced she was a rebel so quickly? She glanced at her clothing, while it had no signature Crystal Gem stars it certainly wasn't typical of your usual Homeworld gem.She continued carefully, "So certain of my own affiliation are you? It is a pretty big assumption on your part. I will apologize however for being so impersonal, but these days you can never be too safe." She nodded her head to him, "To start over, it is a pleasure Sulfur. Please refer to me as Para."
As for her 'mission', she had to be careful not to reveal too much while still making it fairly believable. Suspicion could lead to further inspection... "I was tasked with a scouting mission to explore this relatively unseen sector. Normally a simple scout would have been sent, but they wished for a more technical mind to investigate. Sadly I found nothing besides a number of gems who were unfriendly to say the least. Things did not progress well from there..."
"No assumptions were included in what I told you, Para." Sulfur said, uncomfortable using the nickname. "I didn't assume anything, I only stated what I saw. You said that you were attacked by rogues. A rogue gem group forms for the sole purpose of defeating gems that are part of the Diamond authority, or occasionally crystal gems. Being attacked by rogues would make you with the diamond authority or with the crystal gems. You wear no diamond insignia therefore you must be a crystal gem."
Sulfur then listened to Padparadscha's story on her mission. Sulfur was not equipped with a lie detector, and his deduction skills could not be of use here.
"Hm, clearly." Sulfur said. "It's interesting that the crystal gems have time to explore while trying to keep homeworld at bay. You must have an easy job." Sulfur said. He wasn't sure whether to believe the gem or not. He decided to pry for more information, if he could find any flaws with the gem's stories he would know, it wasn't every day that he found a gem in the middle of a meadow.

Clearly Para's story wasn't holding up, not entirely at least. Although her guard was starting to drop, as this gem didn't exactly seem to be a loyalist by any means. Perhaps they could be trusted. "Alright, allow me to be formal. I apologize for avoiding the matter, but I am willing to tell you about myself if you can do likewise. To begin, yes I am a rebel of sorts. While scouting isn't my usual designation, resources are thin and we had to make due. With the war going on we are forced to seek out new resources. There were hopes this place would yield metals, but sadly nothing of the sort was found. So now I am to return back and report my disappointing findings." The story itself was reasonable, such efforts were actually being done elsewhere on her behalf, though she would never be caught doing such a thing. Then again, that was precisely what she was trying to get caught doing now... "I will say, you are rather smart to deduce such information so quickly Sulfur. I will say it is a pleasure to meet you no matter your own stance in the current climate."
Sulfur smirked and tilted his head back a bit as he eyed Para.
"Oh the pleasure is mine... Para." He said slowly. "So what types of resources are you referring to? I don't suppose I would know what you crystal gems use to keep homeworld at bay. Either you are a foolish bunch or a clever one. Assuming that there are resources that you obtain for your own use, what would they be?"
Sulfur leaned forward as his interrogation continued.
"Earth is a foreign planet to most of us, I am quite adapted to it, but I assume many crystal gems are not." Sulfur moved his hand as he spoke. "What materials could you possibly synthesize on earth? I would like to know, maybe they would help me on my quests aswell."

A bit of Para's nerve began to surface, the continued interrogations were starting to trouble her. This gem's line of questioning weren't exactly normal, the possibility of Sulfur not exactly being a civilian was growing more and more likely in her mind. She became cautious again, "We are on the look out for anything, very often things that can be salvaged are a prime target. Very often high qualities are sought after for... various uses." She mentally chastised herself, smooth Para... "I must ask, what 'quest' are you on? It is very possible I could assist. I am skilled in a number of fields, including synthesizing materials. It is, after all, what my cut of gem was designed for after all."
Sulfur's eyes widened and a smile of amusement crept onto his face. He swayed a bit as if his body weren't stable. His hair covered his eyes but he didn't adjust it as he prepared to speak. Everything around them seemed to stop. Noises of birds and the wind which caused the grass to sway completely stopped. Everything was still. A creepy smirk formed on his lips.
"Well... since you asked so nicely I figure I should tell you... but... something really makes me feel like you wouldn't want to join me on my mission... because..."
Sulfur twisted backward and started to laugh. His laugh sounded like a mixture of laughing and crying, it became hard to tell as tears came from his eyes. Due to shapeshifting, this irises appeared to be black. The tears pouring down his cheeks were black. While he laughed he gasped for air in a disturbing sort of way.

Para's relatively friendly disposition grew cold in an instant as the whole conversation seemed to take a sudden shift in tone. The fear that had been nagging at the corner of her mind gripped her now, already she was taking a step back as Sulfur began to speak. She should have known something wasn't quite right here, things weren't adding up. Silently she cursed her time among allies, it had made her soft and trusting. Fear became mixed with confusion as noticeable tears began falling from Sulfur's face, his behavior was frighteningly erratic. "because... I'm hunting rebels!" Para jumped slightly at that, uttering just a single word, "Oh..."
Seemingly out of panic Para fell backwards back where she was found prone, looking up at Sulfur with a distinctively fearful look on her face, "W-why? If you are truly not with Homeworld, what could you possibly gain from such disgusting work?" Not for a moment did she doubt his sincerity, everything about his 'performance' was proof enough he was entirely serious. Thankfully, she wasn't fully unprepared. Knowing full well Para couldn't fight in an even one on one combat scenario, she had prepared a number of devices to even the odds as it where. Still she failed to assess the situation apparently, only bringing one measly means of defense. In the pile of dirt she placed herself in, Para placed a small handheld device capable of a one time powerful shock. On a human it would likely kill them, but for a gem it would do little else than stun them for a short while. Just long enough for her to get a head start...
While she made no move to use it, her hand was near enough the device to react if necessary. But she hoped to be able to negotiate herself out of the situation. While she may not be able to fight, she was a decent diplomat in her own right.
"You see.. there is a gem named Morion, he is a smoky quartz. He is perhaps the strongest Quartz of all time!" Sulfur seemed very passionate about whoever this was. "He and I struck up a deal, that I wouldn't shatter any of the homeworld gems. Fortunately, he didn't say anything about the rebels... I don't really care who it is... I just need to shatter them... If I go too long without a good shatter I go insane!"
Sulfurs arms shook as he tried to keep them still.
"Also... you rebels remind me of myself. You think that you can save the earth when the odds are so against you that it's comical!" Sulfur yelled. "You all believe in yourselves so much that it's sickening! I would love to just watch homeworld wipe those smug grins off of your faces... but it wouldn't be satisfying enough! I have to do it myself!"

At this point Para was in full panic mode, "You... you're insane! Shattering gems for a sick fix... you are despicable!" She sat up as to be ready to bolt for it once she had the chance, resting her hand on the little taser device hidden away. Out of all the gems she had met, Sulfur here was by far the most terrifying thus far. Even yet, his loyalist dogma got to her, "You seem so confident in Homeworld's victory. And yet we've held this planet for years. Even with Pink Diamond herself targeting this planet, here we still are. You might find victory is not so assured as you might imagine. The only thing comical here is your trust in the authorities not to shatter you once this is all over."
She went on the verbal offensive, "Tell me, even if Homeworld does win, how do you think they will take to your actions? Perhaps they see you as a hero for your efforts, maybe you get a comfy position by on Homeworld. But what then? Where will you get your fix? The Diamonds wont exactly just let you shatter loyal gems as you wish, you'll crack. If anything... you'd want us to win! If we rebels keep this planet from the Diamonds, they'll keep sending new fighters. An endless stream of gems to satisfy yourself with..." As twisted as it sounded, she was being purely logical. Even so she didn't exactly plan on just letting such a thing happen, even if he did change sides by some miracle. Shattering a gem was disgusting no matter the reason.
Sulfur started another crazy laugh in response to this.
"I'm not trying to impress homeworld, I hate them! From the moment I was created, I was ordered to be melted down again... to produce more effective gems. Although, my true ability is the ability to learn and master arts. As soon as I escaped to this planet I learned all of the attacks that a quartz soldier would use... I have shattered dozens of them!" Sulfur yelled. "I'm going to be hunted down eventually and destroyed by homeworld... but I'd rather end you rebels and bring that day sooner... than allow gems with your mentality to infect the galaxy..."
Raising his hand in the air ten green swords started to circle him. He walked toward Para menacingly.
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun.
