"Funny. - To think that a Crystal Gem would believe something like reason and purpose. - Are you not the anarchists that destroy the society the Diamonds perfectly set for us? - Do you really think you are the one to lecture Smithsonite about purpose? - Or is it you who needs a lecture in it?"
Fire Agate said in a condescending and outraged demeanor while slowly approaching the defective Titanite. With each sentence she was closer, and with the final 'you' that sounded from the Agate's mouth, she perched her right index finger against Titanite's forehead, almost as if she was trying to show him that he has no right to preach about purpose, something she thought to understand much more than him.
"This planet is a joke... And it stopped being funny." -Fire Agate
Titanite smiled wryly in response to Fire Agate, specifically when she mentioned the Crystal Gems as anarchists. Is that how homeworld saw them? As anarchists? Either way, he flicked her finger off of his forehead and stood back a little.
"I'm not sure anarchists is the right title to describe the Crystal Gems, we don't exactly set about going to homeworld bases on different planets and destroying them, moreso just to the ones on Earth. Since y'know, preventing it's destruction is what we do."
He couldn't put a finger on it as to why he was acting so casually towards Fire Agate, he couldn't help himself, something about authoritative figures like herself just frustrated him, so he just couldn't bring himself to respect them. Though, upon hearing the mere suggestion of being lectured in purpose he chuckled in a dry manner. He had quite a bit to say about purpose.
"Oh, so I need a lecture in purpose do I? I'm not so sure about that one, seeing as I spent a good thousand or so years fulfilling one, before casting it aside and forging my own purpose. It's always seemed unfair in my eyes that gems are given a purpose from their creation, the idea that regardless of how they feel, they can't do what they want to do. So I dunno, say what you like, but I feel I know a bit about purpose. It's what you make for yourself, not just mindlessly following what others have told you."
Smithsonite looked at Titanite as he spoke. He thought of the purpose Homeworld had given him. Death. The purpose that this "almighty" Diamond Regime had given him was the ability to just sit and watch as they killed him. He no longer missed Homeworld.
"If I may add to what Titanite is saying, Homeworld's purpose for me was to shatter me. I think that the only reason why you glorify Homeworld so much is that the purpose they gave you is higher than that of most. Have you ever given any thought to any of the abused Pearls, or the Rubies that were shattered just to keep the sorry behinds of the Diamonds safe? Or heck! The gems that were thrown away the moment they were born simply because they had a minor flaw!?!?"
Smithsonite thought of all of the other defunct gems back in Homeworld, were they shattered? He was undoubtedly angry, he could not help it.
Fire Agate asked in an admittedly pretty bossy and quite insulted manner, placing her hand on her chest, almost as if she couldn't believe Smithsonite would say such a thing about the Diamonds. Regardless of that, she decided to cool down her temper a little, not wanting to break the very fragile alliance she had. As such, she felt the need to blow off some steam. Quite literally, the orange quartz officer started emitting steam from her body, which was kind of wet due to the viscosity of the air in the jungle.
"Besides, why would you care? - They are just Pearls and Rubies, there are thousands of them."
She followed up with saying the aforementioned in an inquisitive manner, folding her arms.
"It'd mean more to you if you'd ever been in their shoes Agate."
Titanite spoke in a disgruntled manner. What Smithsonite had brought up had actually hit him quite close to home, since the very same scenario of attempted shattering upon being flawed had happened to him, not to mention the near constant treatment of property by numerous other gems. He couldn't assume that Fire Agate could have any idea how it feels, he knew she was too loyal to the diamonds to think anything badly of them, but that didn't stop him from speaking up about it.
"Y'know, I get that you absolutely adore these big authority figures, but have you ever considered that they have flaws like the rest of us? I honestly can't bring myself to believe that any being that's considered flawless would disallow any sense of individuality within their society, lock people with a destiny they have no say in AND have the audacity to allow the creation of a being whose ONE purpose is as a status symbol! Besides, there may be thousands of Rubies and Pearls, but they deserve respect, just like the rest of us. Each and every one of them."
He'd seen so many Pearls in his past and not much infuriated him more than the way he'd see their 'owners' treat them and the fact that Fire Agate was being so dismissive to the unjust way they'd been treated frustrated him something fierce.
"That would be enough of banter. - We should set ourselves back on track. - Clearly, we are not agreeing on anything of what was just said here. So do us all a favor and just shut your mouth."
Fire Agate said angrily, rising one of her hands in the air as to stop Titanite before he could fully finish his speech. Clearly, she was more or less just denying the fact that Homeworld isn't flawless instead of trying to invalidate it with her own perspective. In fact, she was in full realization that her society was basically just a house of cards built on the premise that everyone will follow their role without question. - Yes, she did indeed. But still, the Agate didn't want to think about it. It seemed all too easier for her to simply pretend like no problems exist.
Smithsonite stood up and took a deep breath. He really let Fire Agate have it. He realized that what he said may have made her very mad. He did not want any threat to his life, much less one that could be avoided. he considered using his good luck powers, but decided against it. He knew he already had... something with her, considering what happened earlier when he used his good luck. All he could do was try to diffuse the situation.
"Guys! We can't just argue about this! I highly doubt that will get us anywhere. Think about it, we're allies right? Were stuck with each other whether we like it or not! So let's just work together, or at least try."
Fire Agate only grunted slightly at Smithsonite, almost as if she wasn't too far away from slapping the Gem for being so cocky, starting an argument and then acting as if he was the mediator of this conflict, when in fact he is the whole reason it even exists. Still, she couldn't muster herself to physically abuse her allies. On Homeworld, it would be much more easier to simply punish the inferior that wronged Fire Agate, but here she had to keep her cool. After all, it is best to stay on good terms with your 'allies' because your life might also depend on it one day.
She then turned to Titanite.
"That would be just enough of hassle for me. - You will have to cope with me and I will have to cope with you for as long as we are stuck in this miserable rock with Blue Quartz and Sulfur. - Is. That. Clear?!"
Fire Agate said, grabbing her face with her hand, almost as if she was mildly suggesting a facepalm or an expression of frustration over the situation. She hoped for the best and that Titanite would finally start being more... respectful, to say the least.
Titanite lazily nodded in response to her question. He had vented as much as he'd wanted to and was a little glad when Smithsonite had tried to end the argument, despite having caused it in the first place.
"Yeah, sure. Coping with one another is going to be a thing we'll have to do. Until those two won't be bothering us at least."
He glanced around the island a little, looking at the surroundings before remembering that there was something he wanted to do today aside from visiting the beach city docks and escaping from some nutcases. He began to stroll in the general direction of the warp pad, before turning and looking back at the two.
"Now, is there anything else you needed to tell me? Or anything else you wanted to do? I had something else planned for today and if we're done here, I suppose I'll take my leave."
Fire Agate said, walking away from the group with her head held high. She turned towards the nearby Warp Pad and without a shred or shadow of a doubt, she stepped onto it.
While she didn't tell this to either Titanite or Smithsonite, she was actually off finding more allies for stopping Blue Quartz and her band of insane companions. Nobody knows who else might have a problem with this deranged criminal, but one thing is sure - They couldn't be the only ones with this problem. With that in mind, Fire Agate will make sure to use and exploit that to the best of her capabilities.
Then, finally the Warp Pad started glowing in a white stream of light, transporting the Orange Quartz Commander to her next destination, wherever that may be.
Titanite watched Fire Agate march off to the warp pad and disappear in a flash of light. Glancing back at Smithsonite, he gave him a little wave as he walked over to the warp pad.
"Well Smithsonite, it was a pleasure meeting you. I would accompany you to your next destination, but I have things to attend to. I hope you'll take care of yourself in my absence. See ya later!"
As he said this he engaged the warp pad. Causing the usual brilliant flash of light as he disappeared off to his next destination. He couldn't help but curiously wonder how on earth he'd somehow managed to become allies with a Homeworld gem he'd fought in the past. He tried to take his mind off of it as he beamed off, he wanted some alone time more than anything right now.
