A short time ago the sky above the dormant and derelict Galaxy Warp had torn open with a brilliant beam of cyan and white as a traveler in the warp stream set down on one of the few remaining functional pads at the gem site. It was night, and the sound of the unnatural rolling thunder of the retreating energy beam had traveled far across the water.
It was night now, and actual thunder and lighting were rumbling peacefully several miles in the distance all around the small rocky island, and overhead, nothing but clear night sky and stars..Sweet Diamonds, the stars to night!
So much had happened in the past few months, not all of it good..that Carbide had actually retreated for some solitude and quiet to the one place that, ironically, put her closer to Home World and the rest of Gemkind and yet put her about as far as she could be from it all as well, because what reason would any other gem have to visit a broken Galaxy Warp on a fringe world planet, hah.. it was ridiculous right?
None the less, she knew that if it were working, that a few short steps would have meant that she could have found herself back on home world.. Of course there would be the little ripple of being declared KIA/MIA for the past Millennia but she was sure that if all else failed she could get Opalite to more or less smooth over the feathers of the Diamonds, after all she HAD been doing her job and exploring and protecting the distant fringe of the empire on her own all this time, amassing a stupendous amount of data for the technicians to pour over back home.. if it really was home any more.. at all..
These thoughts and more raced through Carbide's mind as she lay flat on her back on one of the cracked warp pads, a pair of big music headphones on her ears and her eyes wide open simply staring up into the night sky at the brightest part of the galaxy so distant, yet when she held her hand up to the sky, it looked like she could hold it all like the delicate fluff of a dandelion. That was enough for now, it was quiet, with only the sound of the waves and distant thunder, and the occasional flash of pinkish lightning on the horizon.
